Kim ~ Sounds like you are being very pro-active and praying that you will get support from all the people you are contacting. What you are going through would drive me batty with worry.
Rebecca ~ Your fasting times will probably work well for you as you have done similar over the past year or two. There is no way I could do that as I like my breakfast, lunch, and dinner and like them at about the same time each day.
I have had a bad couple of days with knee pain, hot to touch, and swelling. I think I have been overdoing the exercises and that is probably contributing to it. I actually bought a compression stocking today and hope it will make the swelling go down.

One of my secrets of adulthood is "if it works, don't fix it". Before I started on MFP, what I was doing with eating and exercise was not working so I was in search of something that would work for me. I found Isagenix shakes for breakfast, an eating plan that was simple for my other meals, and a schedule of eating that kept me from feeling weak and dizzy in between times that I ate. I read what others did and tried their suggestions. I kept what worked, and discarded the rest. I got ideas of inspirational books and podcasts to read and listen to so that I could stay on track. What I do is different from what a lot of you do, but I've found what works. I lost 50 pounds in 2009 and have kept the weight off successfully. I have an eating and exercise program that I can stick to and that fits my lifestyle. It is like a political or spiritual stance in that it is mine but I don't attempt to push it on anyone else. Would I love to have four kittens? Yes. Do I have the time and energy to take care of them? No. So I'll just enjoy your stories.

Rebecca - Fasting is not my journey, but I have enormous respect for those who take that path. Or, for that matter, any path that will get them back to the healthy weight they seek in a way that suits their body and mind and heart. I appreciate when people respect my opinions and my journey, as well.

Like trying to teach a pig to sing. It just wastes your time and annoys the pig.

Annie - Hope Teddy's vet appointment turned out well, and that the sitter was able to get there.

Lovely long gab with my daughter this morning. Bless her, I don't know if she loves it when I drop into story mode or not. She certainly seems to, and she keeps calling, so lets assume she does. 😹 Getting regular updates on Tropical Storm Hone's impact on Oahu, and Hurricane Gilma, hard on its heels, which will probably pass them by, one hopes. I don't get the updates because I ask for them, please note. 👀🤪🥰
But speaking of weather, we're back to heat and sun for the next two weeks to come. Not in a good way, unfortunately. Back to mornings beginning near 80F (27C).

Well, I posted 2 of my black dresses in OfferUp and amazon marketplace to sell. I never have an occasion to wear them, they are just hanging in the closet. I’ll see if I get any takers . I tried them on to see if they would even fit. I had Kirby take pics of me11 -
Carol - hope the compression stocking helps. Should you call your doctor with it being hot and swelling like that? Maybe that's part of the normal healing process.
Heather - you must have had quite a windstorm. My neighborhood is lucky someone didn't lose a branch or two during the storms we had last weekend.
Rebecca - I know you'll do well on your fasting protocol.
Rita - one of the reasons I really like your diabetes prevention program is the detail and explanations they go into, as you mentioned. I understand why they are trying to get participants to adhere to the "plate" layout and to understand portion control right off the bat. Looks like in a month or so my class will be talking in depth about carbs. I'm guessing most people don't have the time to research how carbs impact insulin resistance and how some carbs are directly stored as fat, etc. So the CDC program sticks to the basics. There's research showing that eating fat and protein first in the meal blunts the effect of carbs on insulin spikes, so saving the bread for last, and ice cream for dessert and not eating it as an appetizer (like my diabetic grandfather did
) helps control blood sugar. I'll see in November.
I had an interesting morning....
I didn't find any shoes that fit at New Balance. They were out of stock on the ones I normally buy. I tried on some other styles, they weren't comfy. The clerk said call every week and if they get any of the ones I like in, they'll put them aside for me for 24 hours. Quite pricey now and I'm wondering if I shouldn't switch to another brand. But it would mean driving to the big city or going through the order online/return thing. Ugh. Maybe if I get desperate.
So, I went through my closet, found an older pair of NB's that I had given up wearing because they made my feet sore when I was doing all of that pavement walking with D for 40 minutes to an hour at a time. Now that I'm not doing that anymore, maybe they'll comfortable enough to wear again. The soles are still in good shape. Worth a shot.
AND guess what I found? That gold necklace! And where did I find it? At the bottom of the little wooden box where I keep my earrings. Thought I'd already looked in there, but today I saw it peeking out, sort of hiding in plain sight. I figured!
Cool and rainy today, should be good sleeping tonight.

Lanette - I have had luck with New Balance at DSW (designer shoe warehouse) if there is one nearby, and if you know which model and the size I have found last years colors or some color combo that did not sell on the web page for better pricing than in the store.

Kim - thank you, I'll check it out. I went to the New Balance Outlet this morning - evidently this particular model - 1080 - is one of their most popular. Hardly any on the shelf of ANY size. I'm a 9 1/2 D (wide). I'm not choosy about colors.

Rita ... does your husband reduce the number of portions he makes when he cooks? You have so much variety in your meals. Like the cheesy potatoes. I have a recipe for that but it would make 12-15 servings. Do you have a lot of leftovers? I think you do great too with taking ownership of your health.

Carol ... Funny how we only remember the negatives. I can't believe at 114 pounds anyone, let alone your husband, would tell you to eat less and lose weight. Hope your knee settles down.
Rebecca ... I have recommitted to my "fasting" regimen as well. I am finding that I feel best with a 3-1/2 to 4 hour eating window... 3:30/4:00 to 7:00. Anything past 7:00 and I don't sleep. I'm also trying to increase the veg/fruit count in my day which has fallen woefully short of recommendations for good gut health. Your youngest son's rash/wound not healing ... someone mentioned protein and I would encourage him to up his protein intake and see if it makes a difference. My mom doesn't have diabetes, but when they wanted wounds to heal they gave her liquid protein to speed up the healing.
Debbie ... hoping you can get help with your MIL. Glad to read that your mom's roommate has been told to leave!

Hunger ... I struggle with clock hunger and thinking I'm hungry when I'm just thirsty. It's 12:00 so I should be eating. Real hunger for me is a hollow feeling ... sometimes uncomfortable with some growling in my upper abdomen. Always higher than I think it should be. Right now I'm dealing with altered taste. While most of my taste came back after my cochlear implant, there is a part that is not quite right. Everything tastes very salty, fruits aren't quite right and food high in fat feels like (I think) whale blubber on my tongue. Do you think this curtails my eating? Nope.
Saying I Love You ...It was not part of my normal dialog before my son died. Now I say it all the time. Every time I leave my mom, I give her a kiss and tell her I love her because at 93 I just don't know if it's the last time. Tell my son the same each day when he leaves for work. And my husband ...not as much as I should.
Age Calculator ... I'm supposed to live to 90 and I absolutely do not want to live that long! I have had exposure to many elderly family/friends/acquaintances and I've observed that when you turn 90 it's like a switch flips ... everything changes. It's the rare 90+ year old that does well. I'm pretty sure I won't be one of them.
My mom ... well it finally happened. After 3 months waiting in a sub-par rehab facility, she was moved into the long-term care facility of my choice! We moved her on the 15th and we've been busy getting her room to reflect her personal tastes. I cannot tell you in how many ways this new place is different from all of the other facilities we have been involved in. Night and day differences. ALL of the staff from the head nurse to the dietary aide speak to her with respect and treat her with kindness … so much so that it brings my mom to tears. The intake process was the most thorough and appropriate that we have experienced. A couple days in, they asked my mom if she wanted anything and we asked that maybe she could have toast for breakfast the next day as she hasn’t had a decent piece of toast in two years. Ten minutes later there was a dietary aide at her door with toast and butter. She ate it all and declared it delicious!! Now I know they were making a point, but it was still a really nice thing to do. I am finally able to leave her knowing that she is well-cared for, safe and comfortable.

Rebecca - I am not able to do the fasting thing, I just get too light headed and grouchy, but I am in awe of you both by the commitment to doing this and by taking the time to figure out what works for your body and sticking to it, even when you wander away for a bit, you come right back to it . ! Great Job !!!

In my 28 day start up, the author talks about
Either you're fasting clean, or you're doing a low calorie diet.
The last thing I want is to diet. I have done it all my life and its gotten me nowhere. Now I just want to listen, to let my body heal on it's own, and come out in a healthier state then now.
When our body fasts and after glucose stores are depleated, and go into ketosis, it can be an interesting time. Headaches can happen, but for me putting a kernel of pink Himalayan salt under my tongue worked magic. To know that after I lose the excess weight the chance of having lots of excess skin is minimal, is encouraging. Putting my body in autophagy takes care of that. IF also helps with inflammatory issues, and helps me from getting Alzheimer's. Pretty much a win win, which I ponder during times I feel hungry.

I did check Zappo's and I've purchased from them before. They are a few dollars more than the outlet store. I also saw some other NB's that might work too. I like the return policy!
UPDATE - I thought these looked interesting. Seems the only clothing item I spend money on these days is shoes. I think I am the same way, as I had opened my window at 3 today and was kinda done by 7pm, although I was to have a six hour eating window until 9 pm. That's just too late for me. I sleep better on an empty belly. I had my taco salad, ear of corn, and 2 baby brie bites. Then a Fresca. I wasn't totally full, but not blasted hungry. I am sipping a Pellegrino water at 7:41 pm happy about the day. I have a bunch of those steamer bags of veggies that are yummy. Tomorrow its the rest of my microwavable hearty grain bags, a veggie bag, and a chicken thigh. Then a plate of crackers, cheddar cheese, my pickled asparagus, and maybe a piece of chocolate with coffee the way I like it.
