Barbie - Glad things are settled with Jake. I no longer drive that far either, so it does have a few accommodations to be made. I'm glad you have some folks ready to bring him home when it's time. Thank you for your lovely comment on the quilt. I've learned the only remedy for creative anxiety is time. I have to step away from any finished project for as much time as I can in order to be able to see it clearly, whether it involves words or beauty or logic or something else entirely. When he's feeling that way, Corey has started saying "I know I'm the only one that's going to look that closely at it," when he finishes the big projects. So he's learning a different way to think about the things he completes, as well.
Beth - Thank you so much for your comment. Well done on getting the ship upright and headed where you wnat to go food-wise. Never easy to change habits, no matter how many are participating!
Lanette - Thank you, too!, most appreciated. Thank you very much, too for the info on napping. I'll apparently be living forever now... 😂👀😁
Rita - Your breakfast looks absolutely wonderful, and well done on getting to your goals!
Quiet afternoon planned... or not planned, as the case may be. Am going to create a cuple different kinds of Southwestern egg rolls for dinner - some in egg roll wrappers, some in tortillas, all in the air fryer, and see which one works out best.
Later y'all,
Love,

After two emails to the doctor's surgery, I finally got the results of the DEXA scan. As I thought, my bone density is average or above average. Because I cracked my wrist last year, my doctor was concerned about my bone density, despite me telling her how I fell, from kerb height, at running speed.
Discomfort a little better today. Still not doing a lot. Tomorrow will be a more energetic day, with hair washing, Zoom, and bbq at my son's. I'm looking forward to putting my face on.
Cleaner came. House in reasonable state for our visitor next Sunday.
Lisa - Great job on the quilt! It truly is a labour of love ❤️
I didn't nap today, for the first time in ages, because John came in just as I was drifting off, to tell me he had managed to pick up both my prescriptions. The second one wasn't due until Thursday. He was very proud of himself. Oh well.
I feel as if I am ready to get back to some kind of structure and I am frustrated. That must be a good sign! 👍 I am experiencing excess energy for the first time since the op.
Thinking of you and Jake, Barbie.

I was faster today, I was hoping to get to do 40miles but I woke up late so I left late. I almost hit it anyway so that was good. I decided I was going to walk to the doc instead of driving so I made sure to get home soon enough to shower first. The doc was so they could hook me up to a portable EKG thing so they could check my heart for the next 24 hours. I can’t get it wet so we’ll see what king of exercise I can do and maybe have a towel bath so I don’t get it wet. Will unhook and take it back to them at 10:18am tomorrow.
A lady from the MS association called me to let me know they will be matching donations that are over $25 which is pretty cool cuz I’ll get double credit. I may even donate to myself!

MFP Weekly Check-in August 5, 2024
Rita in Roswell, NM - Down 1.1 pounds from last week. Started at 186 -9 weeks ago and now at 174.8! Nice progress I think, a total of 11 pounds gone in 9 weeks. I’ll take it!
Barbara on the Southern Oregon Coast - Better than yesterday, not so much. Steps better, BB&B, line dance and Zumba consistent. PT not at all. Sugar and CI<CO worse this week, AF better. Wt today up a almost three pounds from last Sunday. Aaugh!
Lanette SW WA State – weight holding steady within desired range. Continuing with lower carb/higher protein eating plan, and early morning walks and stretches.4 -
Heard from the preferred facility. My mom is at the top of the list and they are hoping to have a room for her soon. So we continue to wait … but at least it was movement in the right direction.

Well went out today to get the hernia jugs of water..the 5 gallon ones.. I wasnt feeling all that well so I stopped and got a small roast beef grinder.. and had 1/2 of it when I got home, and had the other 1/2 for dinner and I took a nap..do feel a bit better.
Little nakey boy in the pool this afternoon.. he is a hoot.
She will be 37 weeks when she goes in for her c section.
I will go to the hospital the day after the little one is born.and Kyle will go home and pick up Miles and get him settled and in bed and drop him off to daycare..they want a smooth routine, which I think is smart.
Heather- there is a YouTube channel called Cruising with Ben and David that I think you would enjoy immensely..they are a couple of chaps from England that cruise all different cruise lines and give there honest opinion on the ships food, itinerary ,excursions etc..
They do a once weekly on Sunday afternoons

Just dropping in. I read through the comments and will post more when I get home. I am very tired but having a good time.
The yoga is very, very simple. The people are lovely. However we have a yoga table where we eat breakfast, lunch and dinner and then we do 4 hours of yoga together and have a half hour break together. This is far more socializing than I usually do and takes quite a bit of concentration to remember names and where everyone is from. There is a concert this evening but I was far too tired and hope to turn in early.
My son is having the house inspected. He will be 20 minutes from me once they move in.
Best,
Rosemarie from Georgia

That's great news about your dexa scan, Heather. I guess I assumed your bone density level was why your hips needed replacing. Was that not so?
I had my first dexa scan this morning, and I have osteopenia in my left neck femur. Made me feel a little better knowing that the pain I've been having there has an identifiable cause. I will keep up my calcium and D and keep walking and hiking.
Scan again in two years

Lisa – beautiful quilt. Imperfections are what make it so special and you’re the only one who knows them. Use my 5 foot rule – if it looks good from 5 feet away, it’s good.
Lanette – I love dandelion wine!!!
Rita – you’re doing so well. I would never have guessed that there was yogurt in the macaroni salad
barbie – what a wonderful neighbor you have there! I’m sure you’re missing Jake (and so is Annie). But he's at the best place for now
Heather – I’m sure all your body weight exercise really helped your bone density.
Vince talked about cutting the green stuff tomorrow since they’re calling for rain Thurs and Fri
Beth – oh, I do hope your mom gets the room soon
Picked up my Porky Pig tonight. I’m going to ask a friend of mine in FL (she’s a real good artist) to write “that’s all folks” on a sign for me to have next to him.

I sent my neighbor a text to check if he was still available to pick up Jake at the hospital today or tomorrow and he called Jake and told him that his prostate was acting up and he wouldn't be able to drive him after all. I texted my Sunday walking friend (she's the one who took me for my tooth extraction) and she said that she had plans but they could be changed and said she'd look up the hospital on Google maps to get an idea of where it was. Jake still doesn't know when they'll release him because the top doc won't be in to see him until later. Meanwhile the chimney sweeps came and Annie barked for quite awhile before settling down. Then the wonderful dog loving neighbor came to watch the dogs and Annie barked and jumped around but was settled and happy by the time I got back from my dental cleaning. Fortunately my teeth look great and I made an appointment to come back in a few months.
Beth, that's great news that your mother is at the top of the list.
Allie, why do you need to get 5 gallon jugs of water?
Michele,the pig is darling
Rosemarie, wow, that sounds like too much togetherness for me. If I were there, I'd be the quiet one who said absolutely nothing.
Heather, of course you're ready for your regular routine. This has been a long hard road for you.
Time to ride my exercise bike and watch another Jesse Stone movie.

Lisa - I just love that quilt.
Rebecca - I bet it feels great to be home! Did your son find suitable daycare?
Lovely pictures
Beth - That’s good news for your Mom for the bed. My mom’s nursing home starts letting people know to be prepared when they are 3rd on the list.
I need to get rid of a bunch of the processed food.
We have a new produce store that opened that is cheaper than the grocery stores. I think I’m going to start using it more frequently.
I’ve also started thinking of some things I can do to keep myself from wanting to buy supper and lunches when I start working again. I think what was doing me in last time was the stress of the situation, I feel much more in control these days.
Lanette - interesting about naps.
Rita - you are killing it!
Barbie - that is a long drive, hopefully Jake is home again soon.
I still love a long drive. I crank the tunes and go for it. It’s one of my favourite things to do. I especially love driving to Kaitlyn’s as the scenery reminds me of home.
Heather - I hope you enjoyed the BBQ and it used up a bit of your excess energy.
Allie - When does Tracy go for her c-section?
Can Dan help you with those water jugs? They are tremendously heavy.
Rosemarie - that is a lot of yoga! I bet you’ll be happy to have your son close.
Michele - Porky Pig is so cute.
I looked up these Jesse Stone movies you’ve mentioned Barbie, I’m going to have to see if I can find them here.
We don’t get everything you folks get even with all of the streaming services.
I worked on my table a bit today, I have 4 more leaves to scrub with mineral spirits but will be able to start sanding the other pieces tomorrow if the rain holds off.
I have a bit of a funny little story, I think I have mentioned that this table was my great grandmother’s and I assume mostly handmade since on the underside some boards have markings of first frost, first crop, etc. it has drop leaf ends and 5 leaves that can go in the centre. We have had a terrible time getting the leaves to fit in when we needed them. Well… as I was cleaning today I noticed 3 little marks on the side of one leaf, I thought they looked intentional but shrugged it off. Then I start cleaning another one and I notice that it has IV. So I start looking at all of them and sure enough they are numbered so you know which side goes to which! I’m going to paint the scratches I think so they are more noticeable.
I think the Irish Spring kept the mouse at bay yesterday, I didn’t see any droppings in the usual spots. I’m still buying the sonic plugs tomorrow.
Have a good night

Flea - No I don't understand the deterioration either. My mother had strong bones, and I think most of these things are inherited. Why just those joints? My hips have never felt right, even in childhood. I am very knockkneed, and I have ankle weakness. I used to be 'double jointed' as a child. I'm a body of two halves! My left knee has been a bother since I was 15. Unfortunately, I have passed on these problems to my younger son and Edie. They are not knockkneed, but have ligament problems. My son is on some advanced drugs, and has to have an MRI of his ankle. Edie often has a sore ankle and is far too bendy.
In normal circumstances, I do knee and and ankle exercises every day.
I was told after my chemo that I had strong bones and I normally do weight bearing exercises and dumbbells every day. Plus vit D.
Today I must have my first shower, so John will have to get the non-slip mat down. I hate showers, but I am looking forward to this one. I expect to be knackered afterwards. Then my Zoom with my old schoolfriends. Then off to the bbq. It will be nice to see someone other than John.
Last night my DSIL rang, and I could hear John was frustrated with our situation. We could both do with some other social input. I have been incapacitated really since the middle of April. DSIL is coming at the weekend, bearing lasagne and salad. We will provide lunchtime rolls, and a fruit salad for dessert. I thought on Sunday, we might go to Fatto for early lunch before she sets off home. I told her to be ready for a carb coma, and she said she would stop on the way home for a nap. She often has to, as she has a tendency for microsleeps.
I also have a flying visit from G on Thursday. I may be up for going out, but we shall see. She's not super keen on eating at my house, because she loves restaurants, but she is happy to pop in for a while for tea or coffee. Sweet of her to come all this way.
So, things are opening up.
Tracey - I so hope you hear good news today.
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Rebecca: Good to know that you are safely home.
Rita: Well done on the stats!
Lisa: Yiu are too critical. (Aren’t we all! 😂) That quilt is spectacular.

Terri, Tracey, Heather, and anyone I've missed... thank y'all. I'd say you don't need to say those things, but apparently I do need them, or I wouldn't put it up for comments! 😁👀😂 Plus I know y'all will be tender with me. 😊🥰
The bigger design question yanked me RIGHT up out the bed at 2 a.m. and in to play with Photoshop on my computer.
Design thinking:What was bugging me most was those "shiplap" style panels on the outside of the quilt. I've made my peace with the main visual of the bookshelves, but those outside panels were bothering me. So I got up and Photoshopped a black panel on the outside of the quilt to see if I liked it better - see it at left. It's a sloppy image modification job, I just wanted an idea, not perfection. Did I like it?
I didn't like it. You can decide which one you prefer, but after looking at it this way, I remembered again why I made the decision to go with the panels that are on there--so they would look like the walls beside a bookshelf. Very few people paint their walls black.
I'll let it sit for a few more days as far as the nitnoid, "no-one will ever know but me mistakes," and decide which to fix and which to let go, then put it through it's first wash cycle, and then get it in the mail next week. My sis is going to send me Viv's address. If I ask Viv for it, she will know what's up, but if the request comes from her mom, it will be a surprise when it shows up.
The eight-foot long desk Corey made me six years ago, while I was still working, was always meant to move on and be used for the eventual craft room - and this is what that last seam construction on the quilt looked like just before I pinned it:
Being able to have the entirety of the length of a quilt stretched out while building it is a huge luxury.
And... here I am at 3 a.m. Again. Not sleepy enough to go back to sleep. So, I'll pop in and get my craft room sorted back to something resembling order... wave Corey off to work in a couple hours, and probably pop my happy lil' self back into bed for a few hours.
Talked to my daughter yesterday while she was taking my granddaughter to her first day of fourth grade. They grow so stinking fast...
Anyway, just a little decompression from a big project, and then I can decide whether to start painting or drawing or sewing some more... no year-long projects for a while!
Later y'all,
Love from Arkansas,
Lisa

Allie - Thanks for that recommendation. I do like cruise videos and have watched a few. I will give it a watch. Usually they confirm what I already know, that I never want to cruise with anyone except Saga.
Something you might enjoy, as an armchair traveller, is 'Walk With Me Tim'. I have been bingeing on his 5 star London hotel reviews and have concluded that Claridges looks the best. Great fun. It's almost better than going there, because it doesn't cost anything. For me, service is paramount, and that's what I get with Saga.
I would love to treat myself to one night at Claridges, but it's no good if you are worrying about the money all the time. You have to resign yourself to spending around £1700 for a large room, dinner, drinks, and breakfast, for two. I think it's worth it, but John probably not.
Hence I'm enjoying the videos!
I've had my first shower! Yeah! Feels very good. Hair clean. Nails filed and clear varnished. I'm coming back to life.
My mood is lifting.

Carol - Thank you! I love the pics of your grands as well... I look at all these young people and can't help but try to imagine what they'll look like as adults. I swear kids were not this good-looking when we were young! 😂4

I only buy things with 1 to 5 ingredients. If I see sugar in those 5, I don’t get it! That alone has helped me lose weight.
Walked with ankle weights 1.5 pounds each and 2 pound hand weights doing arm exercises at the same time for 38 minutes. Good workout! I still have a 30 minute more walk when I do camper reservations. No weights that time!!
Dinner was a Wendy’s bacon/cheese baked potato. I didn’t care for that one but I like the sour cream and onion ones. I found these tuna snack lunches, I had one for supper. Breakfast today I tried quinoa with almond milk, 1/2 banana, 1T butter, 1/4c blueberries and 2 strawberries. Snack last night was a biscuit with butter and mango on top.
DH went to clinic yesterday and has a major sinus infection causing pressure on his ears and deafness. Doc gave him a steroid shot and heavy antibiotics. Then we went to Wendy’s, Sam’s for monthly stuff, and Walmart for his meds. Tiring day!

Stopping back in while I'm taking a break from doing stuff this morning. Nothing big, just stuff.
Feeling swirlingly grateful for my life and everything in it this morning. I often feel that way after I talk to my sis. Our growing up years were hard, and the ability to look at the life we each have now and remember is part of our joy and gratitude for the lives we have built.
As utterly different lives as they are, intersecting in only very tiny ways, we've both had a hand in our current lives being satisfying and wonderful, and each made that happen on our own terms. Siblings are the only ones that are around at the beginning and, if you're lucky, are around at the end, as well... truly a special relationship unlike any other.
Just wanted to share that little bit of gratitude with my favorite group. So pleased you're all here, and hope you're having a wonderful day, one filled with joy and peace, wherever you find it. Hope all our East Coasties are staying safe and dry from Hurricane Debby.
Later, my li'l chickadees...
Love,
Lisa in AR

Good morning!
It’s treatment Tuesday for me. It’s just labs, check in with oncologist and then the treatment injected in my leg, so I’m not nervous…just kind of have to plan my day around it since it’s 2 hours out of my day. I’m hoping to see improvements in my labs. The further out from chemo I get, the more they normalize. I noticed liver function studies were creeping up again so I need to rein in the processed foods I’ve been eating and get in more movement.
I did get out for a walk with my dog yesterday! First time I’ve walked with her since last October when I got the news the cancer was back. It felt so nice! We only went a few blocks because it started raining (of course it did!! 😂), but it’s a start. Start small, start now.
Lisa - I love the quilt! Love the ship lap look on the border too! I’ve always wanted to make a bookcase quilt but they look so hard. Do you do the quilting yourself? Do you have a long arm? Very nice job on the top!
Barbie - I hope your neighbor is able to pick up Jake. I used to love taking road trips with my music blasting, but I’ve gotten so I don’t like highway driving anymore. My husband does the majority of the driving.
Hope y’all have a good day!8 -
Today is: A great day for a RootBeer Float! We used to have an A&W here and I loved going there for their rootbeer floats. It was a great treat!
