Hello, all...
Margaret - Loved the picture of the quilt, thank you for posting that!
Beth - Loved your dress, too. I haven't let my wedding dress go either. Not sentimental about much, but apparently I am about that.
Heather - Pretty little cabinet.
Allie - If what you're doing works for you, keep it up, honey bunch. Well done on the weight loss.
Lanette - Sorry about the kitty.
Rita - Glad to hear your mom's emergency wasn't too bad, and that Brownie's doing a bit better.
Barbie - You always impress me with your ability to achieve equanimity. No fun when it's tested, though.
Newest on the crafting front:While Corey was out working in the yard, I've been busy in a sort of multi-material relearning curve today... Just finished making these. The material is thrifted, soft jersey print. The leaves are clay - I had to remember again how to condition it, build combinations of colors, how long to bake it, how to get texture and so on. The stems are cinnamon sticks, and the curlicues are jute--if you wrap it tightly around a dowel, soak it down with Febreze (to get rid of the rope smell) and put it in an oven for a half hour, the curl stays.
Fun, and easy to build, in the end, another of those things that is much, much easier to do once you've got a couple under your belt. Tomorrow, I might drag out the wood-burning kit and work on the pieces of wood that Corey cut for me last weekend. It will be cool enough in the morning to work outside.
Corey's cooking dinner - Malibu Chicken. Smells wonderful. I'm done crafting for the day, except possibly doing some very placid crochet after dinner.
Later, y'all,
Love,

Lisa: If you don't sell all your pumpkins, I'd like to buy one.
Lanette: Sorry to hear about your Kitty. How are the chickens?
Heather: Wonderful to hear you are getting back to your normal, active self. Nice cabinet.
Annie: Music was the big difference maker in me being able to add more minutes to my workout. I like a fast tempo for cardio (think Pitbull), but often just choose an artist on Amazon Prime music. Yesterday it was Neil Diamond. When I can sing along, the workout goes much better.
Love the wedding dresses and stories! DH and I were really poor. But because we were living in Honolulu we were able to exchange vows in front of 3 good friends at the beautiful Waimea Falls Park on the North Shore of Oahu. I never wanted an actual wedding, but when I look at the photos, I am so glad we used our humble savings for this special day. My dress and his shirt came straight off the racks of JC Penny's. No wonder I didn't care if the hem slipped into the surf. Gave both away a few years ago.
Two weeks from today I'll be meeting up with N for our Maine Adventure. We continue to enjoy the novelty of our relationship. We get together someplace lovely, have an intense amount of fun together, then resume our regular lives on opposite ends of the continent till the next time we can meet up. May not be for everyone, but works for us. I also booked my trip to Phuket for November and I showed the resort link to a friend from work. She is a seasoned traveller who takes a winter beach trip every winter, so she has volunteered to join me for this excursion. We have divergent interests and tastes, but somehow we know it will all work out.
Stay well friends. We can do this.

Being stiff and tired after a walk just means you need a hot shower, a sleep, and to do it again the next day.
It's not a bad thing to be stiff and tired. It means you've used your muscles. Keep walking every day or every other day, and the stiff and tired will go away.

Yesterday I walked 5.3 km (3.3 miles) and did a little bit of cycling.
Today I walked 5.55 km (3.4 miles) relatively quickly, and then did 2.1 km (1.3 miles) slowly with my husband. Total: 7.65 km (4.75 miles).
I'm a little bit sore today after 7.65 km of walking, but it'll pass.
It feels great to be exercising again!

Jess called late last night. She won’t be here today. A friend of theirs had a stroke and the family is pulling the plug today. She did say something about coming tomorrow to get her registration (she had it mailed here), but I think that’s a lot of driving. From VA to here then home. Well, at her age maybe she could do it. Plus, her and Colby can switch driving. So we shall see.
Vince is FINALLY working on the door that Loki peed on. I put down the fertilizer. If the plant don’t come back to life, guess it wasn’t meant to be
Barbara – if they slit the clothes up the back when you die, maybe I CAN be buried in my wedding dress. That would be cool since I don’t think anyone is interested in it except me
Lanette – ROTF Valium
Made brownies for Vince and Jess if she comes. Now that I can use my oven, gotta make up. Really, I prefer to get things from the Corner Table, I’m less inclined to want to nibble.
Diving with husbands: I just let Vince drive because I always get criticized, so it just isn’t worth it
Lanette – I’m so sorry about your cat. Yes, they know.
Rori – wow!
Just finished my walk around the neighborhood, think I’ll lay down for a bit.

Except for the fact that sitting and talking for hours is something I don't like, today's visit with Jake's son and his girlfriend went exceptionally well. So well that Jake offered to cook breakfast for them tomorrow before they head home. Not a single cross or argumentative word was spoken. Jake treated them to breakfast at a restaurant he likes and they helped get ready for supper later in the day. They headed back to the airbnb at five and will be back about 8:30 tomorrow morning. They were great with the dogs.

Today’s gratitude: ibuprofen, every 4-6 hours ;} with food. Way better than Tramadol.
Heather Thanks for the encouragement. Have not been up to anything today but am hopeful tomorrow I can do 1 or two 5 minute stints.
Lisa Good luck with the market table!
Annie Good on you for finding productive things to do while you monitor Dad. Hope the next forest walk is more pleasant with fewer after affects.
Lanette Valium, brilliant! (hugs) and hopes for kitty’s gentle passing.
Barbie ((hugs)) Hope Jake can see the opportunity for spiritual growth too. ;} Is there a gentle, loving way to ask him to lean back so you can see out his side? Glad the Tramadol helped you. Made me nauseous and trembling for hours. Blech.
Allie con VERY gratulations. 20 lbs is awesome!!!
Michele I’m always happy to have Joe drive, I enjoy seeing things that I’d miss if I were driving. On the rare occasions when I drive him, he lowers the seat back and closes his eyes. . . wonder why?
Got something on my stomach, time for another amoxicillin and more ibuprofen. Need to rest up for church tomorrow, though I may flake out on fellowship.
Later, lighter, lovelies!

This morning we have Edie coming to visit. I expect she will finish her painting of a toucan. The lovely jumbo frankfurters I ordered for her lunch, (gf) were substituted with normal sized ones, but they will do. (Also gf) We will have the gf multi grain sourdough I got from the healthfood shop, toasted, with mashed avocado, (her favourite thing) and a big mixed salad. She likes to mix the dressing.
Bea is having a friend over, so won't be jealous. We are picking her up from school on Tuesday as usual, (actually John atm) and she will be coming back here for her tea, as DDIL is in London. So she will get plenty of us then.
Yesterday I was throwing out the two rugs from the bathroom, in a black plastic sack, when John said he might have some stuff from his study to put in it. !!!!!! He did find some trash, but when I knocked later to let him know it was aperitif time, he pointed to some horribly overcrowded shelving (which has been getting on my nerves for months) and said he would like to clear some stuff from that, but needed to confirm with me what was OK to toss. !!!! So I promised to give him 30 minutes of my time this afternoon.
It's mainly DVDs, and maps, but also some modern copies of Victorian tiles that, my ex bought. I never used them. Or much liked them. I'm going to put them on Freecycle. They were probably quite expensive, but not fashionable now.
So, I am amazed. We will see how much we can let go of. I have mentioned to him all the jigsaws he bought during covid, which we enjoyed, but he seems reluctant. I said we could give them to one of the many old people's homes around here. Gently, gently.......

Barbie ~ Glad the visit went well.
Barbara ~ Glad your dental visit is over and hope you are able to control the pain with the meds you are taking.
Flea ~ You too were a beautiful bride.
We are having a cool spell here this week after a couple of weeks of really hot weather and stormy weather. My driveway is covered in pine debris. Looking forward to cool Fall temps and colors.

Good Sunday!
Crisp mountain air last night and this morning. I couldn't get warm last night while watching the sunset on the mountains. Had/have on DH's sweat pants, a sweatshirt, socks, and heavy robe. His last night, mine this morning. I even warmed up my warmie bear and put in robe against chest. DH couldn't believe I was that cold at 64°. Finally gave up at 930 and curled up in bed. I am such an 80° lady!
We haven't done as much walking this year as we have in the past. The cars just aren't on the strip to see. TN changed parking rules, big car show retired, lots of changes. We did go to a car show on Friday and walked. Went to a Mustang vs Camero show yesterday and walked. The upside is lots less traffic. Down side is businesses down here are hurting this year (like a lot of businesses everywhere). People aren't spending. We have helped contribute though!
Tomorrow we are going to Dollywood for the first time. I am excited. Autumn fest is starting.
More shortly,

Good morning beautiful ladies! You were all such beautiful brides!
Lanette yes Dad is in great shape except for the Alzheimer's. ...Sorry to hear about your cat. Hope she can be at peace.
Barbie sounds like you had a lovely visit!
Carol Yay for decluttering the bathroom! I need to do some of that. And yes investing in your hearing is wise, including service for the hearing aids. Dad had to have the rechargeable battery inside replaced, and they did it same day for free. So helpful!
Heather your bath will be beautiful!
Ginny so glad you could beat that accusation. Yay for truth!
Rita hope your mom feels better soon
Allie 20 pounds wow! Whatever you are doing must be working. Great job!
Pip looks like a lovely trip.
Rori glad you found a travel buddy. Much safer!
Machka you are right about walking. I did another ten minutes on my bike yesterday. Yay! And glad you are recovering from your move.
Michele sorry to hear about Jess' friend. So sad.
Barbara feel better soon!
Today's challenge is to get Dad to his church picnic. I can usually rely on his church friends to take care of him, but I get nervous about it.
And for me, it's back on the bike! It's going well, and I found a podcast that I like. Hope I can get back into my regular clothes before my trip in October. I'm down a pound, so it's working!
Have a great day! May you be happy, healthy, safe and free!

Edie finished her toucan - at last!!!
I was going to declutter these tiles, which are modern copies , but Edie said she wants them for her bedroom. I don't think her dad was too delighted!
My new cupboard has arrived, and as one review said, the measurements on Amazon are wrong. Luckily, I saw that and remeasured, and it just cleared. I took a couple of pieces up to check when it arrived, and it FITS!!!
The baskets look great and I will take a photo when I've finished.

Sorry I cut out early yesterday, it’s been a couple of “days”! Here are Friday and Saturday’s dinners. I’ve been stressed out so having wine in the evenings. I think it may not be helping, but it’s better than eating sweets (I think?). Talked to mom yesterday, she sounded so tired and down. She’s really not sure what is going on and is worried about her heart enzymes. They are high. She is being tested for heart issues along with the infection. Last month she was in the hospital with a really bad infection and gout. My gut says this is a relapse of the infection and her heart is working overtime. At least she is in the hospital and not home alone, so can get the help she needs. Brownie is still hanging in there/

This week’s pre-diabetes class is on Stress and how it affects our health and weight. In spoiler:OverviewI use a different app to track stress. I’ve not been very good about it. It seems I’m in a depression along with my anxiety right now due to my mom, Brownie, and DH is sick so been miserable too. This class was needed this week!
Session 14: Stress
The goal of this session is to help you understand how stress can affect your weight and health. You will learn the role stress can play in weight gain and how it can affect your eating habits. By the end of the session, you will know how to manage stress in a healthy way.
Stress
Stress is a mental or emotional strain that results from tough or demanding situations. It is a part of life and everyone handles stress in different ways. Stress does not always have to be bad, even positive events can cause feelings of stress or being overwhelmed.
How Stress Affects Our Bodies
1
Cortisol is often called the "stress hormone". Too much of this hormone can be released into your body when you feel physical or mental stress. Studies have shown that stress and high levels of cortisol can cause extra fat to deposit in the stomach area. This extra fat has been strongly connected to developing heart disease, which includes heart attacks and strokes.
Stress Habits
When you are under stress, there's an urge to do something (think of the fight or flight mode).
Sometimes eating becomes the activity that relieves stress. It's easy to do and it's comforting. One way that you may respond to feeling stressed or having more cortisol is to crave sugar. When you feel stressed, the stress hormone can give you a signal to eat sugary or starchy foods. Once you eat these types of foods, you quickly learn that it is comforting. If you are not paying attention, you may repeat that behavior whenever you feel stressed.

✓ Skill Building Activity: Journaling Your Causes of Stress (your coach will lead you through this activity)
Track Your Stress Level
2
If you are not already doing so, begin tracking your stress level via the app or website. This will help you to see when you are feeling more stressed. You will also be able to note what types of foods you ate on a more stressful day.
➢ To track stress on the mobile app:
● Tap the blue plus sign icon
● Tap Add Stress
● Select your stress rating, Low (1) to High (5)
● Tap SUBMIT
➢ To track stress on the website:
● Click on the Timeline button
● Click on Add Stress Level
● Rate your stress from Low (1) to High (5)
● Answer Yes or No if you have you done a
stress reducing activity for the day
Fighting Stress
When you take the time to pay attention to stress, you can learn how to prevent it. Sometimes, stress can’t be prevented. That is when you work your best to relieve stress. Different things work for different people when it comes to stress. For some regular exercise works well, for others deep breathing is the key. The goal is for you to find what works best for you. The chart below provides several options for both avoiding stress and relieving it.
3
Spot the Warning Signs of Stress
➢ Anxiety, feeling irritable, and muscle tension.
Practice Relaxation Skills
➢ Yoga, stretching, massage, deep breathing, or meditation.
Find Rewarding Activities that are Not Related to Food
➢ Journaling, enjoying the sunshine outdoors, or watching a funny movie.
Engage in Regular Physical Activity
➢ Exercise can decrease the “stress hormone” & trigger the release of “happy” chemicals that relieve pain & improve mood.
Seek Help from Supportive Friends & Family
➢ Ask for help, it may be hard but when you open up you may find your closest friends or family struggle with stress & have tips for you.
Plan Ahead
➢ Schedules & lists can help keep you more organized.
Use Problem-Solving Techniques
➢ Managing your stress can help you lose weight and maintain a healthy weight long term.
➢ Use the problem solving skills you learned in Session 8.
❖ See Handout: Ways to Fight Stress Part 1 & 2
✓ Skill Building Activity: Deep Breathing (your coach will lead you through this activity)

Summary
Stress can affect your weight and your overall health. Using the tips you have learned in this session, you can prevent some stress. You can also deal with your stress in a healthier way. Remember that you may have to practice new stress reducing activities several times before they feel as good as the old unhealthy ways of coping with stress. Give it time. Be sure to reach out to your coach for support as needed.
Activities
□ Start tracking your stress level on the app or website if you have not already begun to do so.
□ After you have tracked stress levels, take a look back at your meals to see what foods you may have eaten on a more stressful day. Ask yourself these questions and discuss them with your coach:
Keep Moving
Incorporate a daily stress reducing activity like a walk, light stretching or yoga. This will add more movement to your day, while also lowering your stress level.
5
➢ Have you eaten more or less?
➢ Do you eat a certain type of food when you are
more stressed?
□ Do one stress reducing activity each day this week.
□ Goal setting: Work with your coach to determine one stress reducing activity that you feel will help you the most. Example: I will take a walk around the office when I am feeling stressed instead of reaching for a sugary snack.
List your goal here or message it to your coach: ______________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________ ______________________________
Discussion/Questions
□ Share some of your daily stressors in the discussion group and ask what other group members may struggle with.
□ Share a tip that has helped you reduce stress in the group discussion.
□ Ask group members if they have any tips or suggestions for stress relief that you can use at work, home, school, etc.

Creating a Stress Journal
A stress journal is a great way to recognize the cause of your stress.
If you continue with the journal, you will be able to identify patterns and common themes.
This information will be useful because you can come up with a way to prevent or combat the common stressors in your life.
Here Are Some Questions to Ask Yourself!
1. What is the cause of my stress?
Work, finances or family 2. How did I feel physically?
Heart racing, stomach pains or shortness of breath 3. How did I feel emotionally?
Angry, sad or scared
4. How did I react?
Eat candy, go on a jog or call a friend
Ways to Fight Stress, Part 1
Practice Relaxing
● Yoga, stretching, massage, and meditation are great de-stressors.
Breathe
● Take a deep breath in for 4 counts, hold your breath for 7 counts, and breathe out loudly and slowly for 4 counts.
Engage in regular physical activity
● It can help decrease stress hormones and release “happy” chemicals in the body.
Find rewarding activities unrelated to food
● Read a book, call a friend, work in your garden, or take up a new hobby.
Listen to music
● A string of songs that put a smile on your face can turn your mood around.
Learn to say “no”!
● You don’t have to participate in every event, group or activity, especially if they add stress instead of enjoyment.
Get adequate sleep
● 7-9 hours of sleep is recommended.
Ways to Fight Stress, Part 2

Go for a brisk walk with your friend or your dog
● Furry friends can be great company.
Scream!
● You will feel better once you let it out! (A car is a great place to contain the noise or into a pillow!

I have a problem! My husband has decided to do a version of intermittent fasting and it's messing us both up. He wants his eating time to be between 11 AM and 7 PM. I have noticed when I prepare the nightly meal (around 6 PM) which is my heaviest meal of the day, he is taking very small portions. Result is that by 11 AM the next day, he is grouchy as heck. I know it's because he is hungry but he won't listen to me and he says he is NOT grouchy and that I am nagging him. He would love to go out to fast food every day but that just isn't on my agenda. I don't want fast food. Any suggestions would help.
Carol in GA10 -
Carol - Can you let him go eat fast food on his own? Just a thought. I'm not an IF person, but one thing I'm reading a lot is that intermittent fasting helps with weight loss, but doesn't mean you can eat everything in that eating time. Could be wrong, I'm sure one of the IF folks can help more than I can on that front.4
-
Carol, At my house, I fix one major meal a day. The meal is at midday. Other than that all eating is "find it and fix it". We make sure to shop for foods that each of likes and will prepare, so there is something to eat for each of us the rest of the day. If my husband is grouchy or doesn't know what to fix for himself, I ignore him.
Monique, you look beautiful in the picture with your dad.
About stress. We all know that is not good for our health. The trick is find the ways to avoid it and when it comes to have practices to deal with it that don't include food, alcohol, or drugs. Sleep, exercise, prayer, meditation, music, reading or listening to something uplifting or inspirational. I have "911 playlist" of music that I listen to when I need to feel better.
We're home from the grocery store and Jake is getting ready to fix breakfast for son and girlfriend when they come. My Sunday morning walking friend cancelled so I didn't have to.
May you be happy, peaceful, safe, and useful today.

Did a section of the Cathe Power Hour DVD then took a walk around the neighborhood. Got an area cleaned up where we cut the bushes then made a shrimp orzo salad for bowling tomorrow. Now I think I’ll probably go out by the pool. Just finished trimming the cat’s nails
Heather – glad the new cupboard fits. Isn’t it frustrating when you depend on the measurements and they aren’t correct?.
Rita – keeping your mom and Brownie in my thoughts and prayers. You have the same Corelle dishes that my MIL had!
Monique – you look radiant. And the look on your father’s face! Precious
