JULY 2025 Monthly Running Challenge

Hi everyone!
No motivation this morning, so it’s makes it even sweeter that I managed 10.2k on the treadmill. I had to stop briefly to take a phone call mid-run (from the police no less) other than that the treadmill is usually completely uneventful ;).
60.2/270km for July.

I was up early (for me) to go to Pilates. Followed by a quick 20 minute run. Great way to start the day.

Looks like a good plan @chris_in_cal .
@ContraryMaryMary Yeah for an easy run and making good use of your time.
@SummerSkier Glad you are getting in some shorter runs. Those storms and the aftermath was just horrible. I read that the blue snake could possibly be a green snake where the pigment was breaking down. That's probably the case. It's still pretty cool looking.
@Laurz9191 That's amazing for no motivation. I hope the police call wasn't anything bad.
@angf0679 Great dedication to get up at the same time when you could have slept in!

Did a slow, hot, wun after work today. It was 92F (33C) and 41% humidity, so the feels like was 94F (34C). Thankful for the shade, but it was still hot. I planned on a true wun, but mile two was fast enough to count as a run at 14:06 min/mile. Avg HR was 129 with a max of 147 bpm.

Got back out yesterday evening. I enjoyed the run but there was misty rain the whole time & I got drenched. My energy is really up and down, I think it's mostly stress but nothing too serious. The crap weather for the last 5 days is not helping.

July total: 11.2 miles
YTD: 483 miles
7/1: 3 miles
7/6: 3 miles
7/9: 5.2 miles
I had time for a slightly longer run this morning. And we got a tiny cool down so it was only 72F (22C)!! Such a treat in the middle of the summer!

Tried a threshold fast run yesterday in 32c heat. That sucked. I tapped out once I started getting nauseated, plus the legs were reluctant, so didn't get very far. Heat training. It's actually the first hot day of the year. I've been sooooo pampered by the usual cooler summer weather here. We usually average under 25c in summer. Will get to do the same workout today. It's forecasted to be tad cooler so hopefully that helps but might get some wet love from the clouds.

Nice runs everyone!
I had a couple days of no running as I ended up with what I'm pretty sure was food poisoning on Monday. Much better today but kept my run closer to home just in case.

The misty cloud lifted at lunchtime so I got a good run in this evening. I think 4 miles was more than my foot appreciated & was very achey on last 1/2 mile. I dealt with a few jobs that were stressing me so that’s a bonus.

I do a midweek long run on a Thursday so got 12 very soggy kilometres in today. It was a good run, but mostly because I was running away from my in-laws 😂

@Zaxa2021 and @kgirlhart You are the poster ladies for just getting out the door and hanging in there.
@Mari33a I hope the weather gets better and your stress load decreases soon.
HAHAHA 🤣😂 @ContraryMaryMary . I was lucky that I had a great mother-in-law.
Great run @tarun_yadavA . Safe travels.
Great running @chris_in_cal .

still here. Still plugging along. I think I underestimated my injury as a 4 week recovery by about 50 percent but almost done with 5 weeks and it is getting better. I think another 5 and I will be back to normal. To me that means I did "break" something. I go see the dr next week so I will see if he thinks I should get xrays. No more bruising or much swelling now and unless you saw me limping a little you would not tell the difference visiably. I have been really limiting my activity (no walks or tennis) and trying to do a very tiny running streak. With walking around at work I am getting still quite a bit of steps in (over 10k most days) and the running pace is not like it was when I first attempted. Still going slow as far as increasing mileage and until I am really pain free I will keep it so. I run for 30 minutes yesterday for the first time in a while which felt ok.
7 -
@SummerSkier Dedication to a running streak while having a broken foot is remarkable. I hope you and your doctor set you up to heal soon and get back to 100%

So…did another threshold training yesterday evening. A lot cooler but still batting 0 for 0. Could not get even near the bottom of the threshold. Grrrr 👿
Then this morning, waking in a moment of clear brain-fog-less moment, I had an epiphany. Why the heck is my MaxHR on garmin so high? Garmin seems to think I'm a 33 year old with a 187 max 🤦♀️🙄. Ummm I can only dream about being 33 y/o again 🤨😬🤪 Prob a weird spike got recorded somewhere and I think I know where, there was this one weird trail run where the RPE was the inverse of HR shown 🙃.
Going to do another test run this evening for threshold and estimated max HR protocol and see where I end up. Going to get the bottom of this even if I have to puke my lungs out. Pray for me…😏

On the webpage for Garmin Connect, under "Account Settings" and then "User Settings" and then "Personal Information" I have a dropdown option for "Activity Class". IDK if this is messing with your GC metrics…what is yours set to? I can set mine between 0-10 (Coach potato to Olympian)
Consider adjusting yours to something that makes more sense…if it isn't already.

I hadn’t intended to do 4 miles again today with it was nice out so kept going and my foot didn’t bother me as much today. I just don’t know 🤷🏻♀️

Oh for moments of clarity @WarmJellyfish. I had a look at your last run on Strava and yes, your heart rate zones are very high. I’m not sure if you age, but I’m 51 and my zone five is anything over 161. My threshold is 150.
As Chris says, go into your settings on Garmin and either reset your zones manually to what you think they are, or simply let Garmin reset to the factory default which is based on your age and sex.
Alternatively, ignore the heart rate and go on feel. If you’re about to throw up, that’s zone 5. 😂
7 -
I'm glad your foot is finally getting better @SummerSkier . I'm also glad you are going to talk to your doctor about it next week.
@WarmJellyfish You can do the test run and then set custom HR zones on Garmin.
Nice run @Mari33a . Glad your foot didn't hurt as much today.
