I’m curious to know, does anyone eat within the first half hour of waking up? I usually don’t eat until about two hours after waking up but I’m going to try eating right away and seeing what that does.

I've been quiet, but tracking for the past week. I had a really tough week. While I did not eat fast food, or cave to junk, I had larger meals last week as my energy was depleted — in fact I slept most of Saturday. I'm still not 100%. I weighed myself this morning and walked away. There's no way that's accurate and I refuse to accept the number displayed. So I choose to wait until tomorrow to see what the scale tells me.

HappyDonkey75 I'm really sorry to hear your workplace is being unethical. I too have experienced this in past roles and it's demoralizing and unfair. The way I've dealt with this is to start making plans for getting out — at least the act of putting together a plan, and taking tiny steps toward it, can be your defiance in this situation. I am sorry you're dealing with this - it shouldn't be allowed to happen.5 -

19 August – 54.3kg@MercyRoth it's all I can do to drink a cup of caffein-free tea and take a dose of iron supplement first thing in the morning. If I have a an exercise class then I'll soak oats in water the night before, add plain yoghurt, a scoop of protein powder and blitz that into a drink. Other than that I don't usually eat for two or three hours.
@ManifestingToday - we know that scales are fickle. Sounds like you've been/are fighting off a bug so much more likely to be water retention.

Ok so I’m further investigating this notion of timing of meals and relative size of meals. I read this huge study published in NIH that basically said 1) to lose fat it is crucial to stop eating 2 - 3 hours before your natural bedtime: and 2) eat a large lunch early and your dinner needs to be small. These are two things I have never done. I’ve always eaten dinner late, and dinner is usually about half my calorie intake. So I’m trying these two things now!

I hate my scale right now but it is what it is. I am doing all the things I should be doing. So eventually something will change.
The Kayak on Sunday ended up being more difficult than I anticipated. The wind was not at our backs and my kayak is alot like pushing a sheet of plywood into the wind, not exactly aerodynamic. I am supposed to do a big kayak this Saturday out to an island on the big lake but after yesterday I am not thinking it will work well. My kayak is more set up to do casual play paddle and mostly just something to float around on . I could consider renting a kayak I guess but that's just another wrinkle and based on prices not worth it. The bad part is I have been wanting to do this particular paddle out to this island for a number of years.. and here's my chance.. but.. but… but…I guess unless I can find someone to lend me one I’m going to have to pass.3 -

@HappyDonkey75 I share your frustrations… I agree - sometimes there is no explanation, in spite of doing all the right things. I agree with you - we'll just keep at it and something will change for the positive!
@MercyRoth I think that there is some merit in what you have uncovered regarding the timing of meals. This is certainly something that I have practised to a large degree - I have my main meal during the course of the day, eat lighter in the early evening and try and finish eating a few hours before bedtime. I also only eat my first meal a few hours after waking, so I'm interested in what you uncover with regards to eating soon after waking.

@HappyDonkey75 – If Saturday’s paddle is something that you’ve wanted to do for a long time and you finally have the chance to do it, so long as it’s not totally outside your budget, then rent a kayak and do it! None of us knows what’s round the corner, or what obstacle will get in the way the next time you get the opportunity. You've had too many lemon's recently, you deserve some lemonade.

Thanks @SuperMotivated56 for your input, this is further evidence that I’m on the right track. I’m liking this new pattern of eating, bigger daytime calories and a small early dinner. It shakes up the routine a bit too which I like. I love this group, so much insight and motivation, and commiseration.

@SofaKween - thank you for that. Your absolutely 100% correct. I do need to have a few wins I guess. So I told my alter ego "talk yourself out of anything fun" voice to go kick rocks and made some calls yesterday on rentals. Turns out one of the places that rents is having a 50% special for the month of August.. so that certainly helps. I have a reservation for a rental to pick up friday evening. I guess I will do it. Now the only thing is to hope the weather stays in our favor with NO WIND. My one concern is the wind picking up half way through the day and we have issues on our way back or something.. The lake can get pretty unsafe with whitecaps in a hurry if winds kick up. I don't want to be calling in the rescue team!

Thanks @SuperMotivated56 for your support- I agree we need to take in the work and acknowledge what we are doing (well) to get to even small wins. They say small changes over time are the key!
There’s some intriguing discussion here about eating a larger meal mid day. I thought of considering this the other day when I went to lunch with a friend and order 3 hearty grilled fish tacos - no sides. Turns out I ate all but one corn tortilla (had 2). I was NOT hungry at all at 5-6-7 pm. Opted for a big bowl of popcorn instead. I will test this out again this week. And I ‘usually’ have at least two hrs of no eating before bedtime.
