LOL. That's the way to look at it. You don't have some marshmallows do you? Once the fires burn down, the coals ought to be just about right.

UPDATE: Still have Texas Parks and Wildlife Service and Fire department on campus. Several spot fires on and around the campus. Anticipated shift change at approximately 0500, they will be bringing in more equipment and personnel to deal with the spot fires at that time.
The Campus is much safer than it was at this point.

Things are calmed down for now. We're expecting the wind to pick up as the sun rises and have been informed that anything could flare up at any time once the wind picks up.

We have unidentified vehicles coming through onto the campus and that makes me nervous but the Campus is open to any and all who are available to help.

Well not ALL of the county is on fire....

They don't test the hydrants regularly? I bet they will now.

They test hydrants here, even in winter - makes for a fine mess for sure!

Where I grew up in Queens, NY, literally on the "other side of the tracks", was the old neighborhood, abandoned and left pretty much to rot down to nothing but weeds. Every summer he had huge fires when it was dry and the sun caught an old piece of glass or something. Always huge infernos, never fun. Fortunately we had several train tracks to buffer the neighborhood. I can sympathize with you being just a bit anxious.
Our South gate is totally eff'd. The whole area is on fire and we are JUST NOW being informed that some of our fire hydrants don't work.

Being you use "gorram" all the time, I'd have expected you to say "humped" instead of "eff'd". :)

    Ruttin' let down, I was.

Oh yes, a final update on Mr. Blue Eyes: He has consistently gone out of his way to avoid me and weirdly overreacts when I have tried to be friendly. Soooo, even if it some weird reaction to a crush or whatever, hey, this ain't Jr high. #next

What do you do when you can't stand the thoughts of putting a young fantastic Black Lab down but the owner can't afford the surgery to remove the towel it ate?

yet another signpost on the Social Ineptitude Expressway. people have completely lost touch with how to react to, deal with, function alongside, get along with...one another.

may i ask how old Mr. Blue Eyes appears to be?

Well, I originally thought he's about 30, but I found out he's a bit younger than that. Like, cougar territory for me...lol!

i'm gonna email you a funny story a buddy told me once later...tonight doesn't seem to be allowing for my usual surplus of time, as people seem intent on breaking stuff at the other building, just as i'm arriving back here from my LAST trip to the other building to fix the last thing they broke.

kinda feel sorry for this kid, though. he can probably work the $h!t out of a PlayStation controller, but can't have a conversation with a girl.

if these kids ever figure out how to fit their junk into a PlayStation somehow, all reproductive activity will come to a screeching halt...and probably rightfully so.

(and i should probably STFU and go fix some more stuff...i'm obviously a cranky b@$tard tonight.)

Yep, refer back to our discussion about the loss of the art of conversation. If you can't look me in the eye and engage in conversation, forget about it.

Being able to read people should be an essential class at school. Most people will never have to figure out the cosine of an angle, but everyone will have to look someone in the eyes at some point and figure out if they registered a single word you said.

mostly continuing the unpacking fun at the new house...but i'm definitely going for a bike ride on both days. i've been completely distracted by the move and trying to get everything done while still putting in 40 hours a week at work...but this weekend couldn't come soon enough. it'll be nice to have time to work on the house without 2:30 looming over my shoulder and having to stop to get ready for work. :)

UPDATE: Fire is 50% contained(after it dropped to 0% on Wednesday night this is a HUGE improvement). I was hella busy checking in at work about every 6 hours or so, made for almost NO sleeping until today. I volunteered at the Bastrop Animal Shelter on Thursday. They were taking in animals for those who were displaced by the fire. 30-40 structures lost(most likely homes  ) and 2 lives lost last I heard(this may be incorrect or a possible underestimation). Our campus is safe, the biggest issue is smoke inhalation which SSP is keeping me totally out of because he wrote the schedule with me at Bastrop ALL week this next week.

It was my favorite campus because it was well lit, perfect for walking around, and had an abundance of wildlife to keep me entertained including deer, skunks, armadillos, foxes, and feral cats. We lost a portable building, a tractor, and a port-a-potty. All other buildings were spared.

Many people, thanks to the news, were upset that the fire department's first priority was to defend 'a University of Texas Facility', as the news phrased it, and most people are interpreting it as 'A UT building'. It's not just a building, it's an entire compound and the reason they defended it first was because we have massive water tanks and 50-60 fire hydrants on the property that were made available for the refilling of fire trucks to more quickly defend not only our property but the properties around the facility. Firefighters made it a 'home base' of sorts and it was a well defensible position where they were able to be brought food, water, and could get some rest while our department watched over them.

We have massive smoke damage to repair but the animals are in good health as are all of our employees and to our knowledge, none of our employees have lost their homes. Though the fight is not over yet, the fire departments in our area have done an outstanding job and the cities of Bastrop and Smithville have come together to assist each other in a way that makes me very proud to live and work in this area.

I'm pink. A weird smoky, peachy, lilac pink...but pretty!

We saw Everest in 3-D! It was great. I was easily the person squirming the most (we sat in the last row so I could see everyone else) but I wasn't the only one! It was INTENSE!

Nash is doing good, acting more and more like himself every day. His sore paw is much less swollen but it seems between the two toes there is an abrasion or bruise or something that won't go away. Purplish-red...and the tissue below it is swollen. I noticed today it appears that foot is splayed out more instead of straight forward. He walks on it but does hold it up briefly at times. Overall he is doing great but this foot thing still troubles me...

@lilaclovebird good to hear things are improving again, sorry to hear about the animals though. At least they've got some looking out for them though!

Alright! NO ONE has died due to the fire. Deaths were 'unrelated'.

Things are improving. A lot of people are allowed back to their homes and we have our South Gate reopened for the fire department to fight some spot fires in the area.

Things are looking up. We are SO lucky.
And something that made my WHOLE WEEK: The Lieutenant called me early this morning before my shift ended to check in because I haven't seen him in months. Wanted to make sure it was all good, and it really made me feel appreciated and like my work is actually worth while.
I don't know what 'Boss's Handbook' he got the idea from, but he should bookmark that chapter.

I will be doing this with a glass of wine when I get home. Except it wont be the sofa...I'll be in the bath tub..and I MAY take the time to portion out 3 portions of chips....but the WHOLE bottle of wine is gonna be in the tub with me!
