Sorry about that1 -
Also, it started raining about 4am, which makes me afraid we're going to have Icemageddon all over again this weekend.0
-
I’m in Ireland a small bit of ice and the whole place grinds to a halt.0
-
I wish it was like that here. Too many people just aren't smart enough to stay home when the roads are icy.0
-
I can’t believe how many people are on the road when there is a do not travel order.0
-
Right!? Everyone thinks they are smarter than "The Man." Of course, I am not entirely immune to this myself, which I realized when my supervisor said (mostly joking), "You were the only one dumb enough to come this far w/o the the roads the way they are."0
-
I had the advantage (Sort of) in that I started work on Friday so I never had to travel during the storm. I never left work, but I didn't have to brave the roads either.1
-
Yep, @sufferlandrian, you 'n' me both. *cough, cough* I had to take Friday night off, I could hardly move I was so exhausted. Felt well enough for date night, previously scheduled Sat. Fancy Indian dinner, concert tickets to 54-40, and an overnight hotel stay with breakfast - good thing because it was snowing like stink that night anyhow.
Welcome to @Smilin40! What's ur cawn?
Heheheh, @jennifer_417 you should have quickly said, "So do I." That would've thrown him for a loop !
'And in other news...' I have a spanky new patrol car!! Ford Escape with all the bells & whistles (too many for my liking, lol). First drive was last night and mama, she goes! Through anything.... that Automatic Intelligent 4WD is awesome. Here's an updated photo of the infamous picnic tables at the University College dateline last night: And it was freakin' -24C when I got home at 6 am today! WTH! We need to be done with this.

That's impressive. We got 17" this Saturday to Sunday. However, today was gorgeous with all sun and not a cloud in the sky. Only 14 degrees and heading for -12 F tonight. That's the same as you in BC. -24C. My commuter bike has been put away for the week as we aren't going to see anything close to 30 degrees F until Friday.0
-
Yes, looks like we pushed it over to you guys.... 17 inches! wow! We had a beautiful sunny day today and it did get warmer around -7C but back down to cold tonight.
A week ago we went to the Winter Carnival (theme Wonderland) - my friend & I dressed up (our hubbies were duds and didn't this year ).
She was White Rabbit, I was Queen of Hearts. We both scavenged and made bits & pieces of our costumes cuz that's half the fun.

@canadjineh - you look gorgeous! Also, congrats on the new patrol car.
It's been raining all day here, and supposed to get into the 20s F tonight. It's gonna get ugly. But there's no where I have to be tomorrow so imma hole up in my room with my space heater until my family becomes concerned.0 -
Thanks, Jen! Yeah, I'm thinkin' a duvet, a fireplace, Hot Buttered Rum (sweetener instead of brown sugar - low carb ) with a bit of orange zest, and a tablet full of good books. Oh yah, forgot the thick cabin sox.

Supposed to start warming up here. I think we are getting up to 20 degrees tomorrow. Sounds like it might be biking time again.0
-
Somehow, the roads are dry this morning. Mysterious, but I'm not complaining! It's cold, though, so I'm still staying inside!1
-
Well, it got colder than they thought. It was down to -9 last night. It only got up to 16 F today. Hopefully by next week I'll be back to commuting, but it's still a bit chilly with the wind chill.0

Yep... looks cold alright. Looks sorta like my place except the valley is much narrower (I don't mean the asphalt valley between the snowbanks either, lol)

It's a beautiful place with wonderful people. Every place has it's bad eggs, but overall, the people would give you the shirt off their backs to help you out if you needed it. A few times this year we've had clients that heard about another client who was going to have a hard time paying for services so they wrote us a blank check and just said, "When you know the total bill, let us know how much it was.". Where else can you get such great people like that. It gives me faith in the human race again. Not absolute faith, but just enough to hang on.1

Chilly commute in tonight at 19F. I used to get the strangest looks but I think people are getting used to it.0
-
"Oh.... it's him again."0

I have a hard time making myself go outside at all when it's that cold...let alone riding a bike!0

Yeah, me too. My lungs haven't been too happy with me since I got over the flu the other week. Remains of cough and mucous, but I still was at work in -24C on Thur nite/Fri AM and boy did they hurt yesterday. Lately I haven't had energy to go out for walks or ski even which is sad because I like it, but stress (elderly parental health care) is taking its toll on me. Dad just lost his licence and now they are dependent on us for any sort of transport as we all live out in the country (20 minutes from town). Starting Monday we are getting everything all set with the lawyers for wills/POA/representative agreements for health care, and then they are checking out retirement residences in town. It will take a few months but hopefully things will get easier for all of us.0 -
That must have been a real blow to his ego when they took his license. A fair number of elderly struggle with giving up their license. It's their last representation of independence.0

We had to pull my mom's driver's license when she developed cataracts a few years ago. Her eye issues are mostly resolved now but enough other things have gone wrong with her health (memory problems, balance issues, losing feeling in the bottom of her feet) that I had to tell her that she couldn't get it back just a few days ago. She took it well, but it's hard for both of us.2
-
I had to switch to the fat tire to commute to work tonight. It goes through the snow and slush better, but it sure takes a lot of power to push down the pavement.0
-
Well.... Today we 3 went for lunch at a retirement residence then had a tour. Really good veggie soup (no noodles or rice - yay!) and a beautiful chicken Caesar Salad (not as garlicky as I like but that's because it's a senior residence - spices generally are 'toned down'). I picked out the croutons since I can't have bread - hopefully any crumb left in the salad won't affect me too much. Mom & Dad had a SF dessert too, being careful with their blood sugars, although they aren't having problems at the moment. Awesome mini 1 bedroom + living room apartments with microwave and bar fridge and large bathrooms. Wood laminate flooring, and large windows with a view over the mountains. Internet, cable TV and phone (long distance too) all included. Central courtyard with outdoor pool - summers has aquafitness classes there, open swim with family welcome and afternoon tea/cold drinks in the courtyard around the pool. All very bright, new updates/renovated ex/hotel. All meals plus morning coffeetime/snacks and afternoon tea/snacks included. Right next door to their doctor (who will make housecalls if needed) and their preferred pharmacy. Live music & happy hour on Fridays. Private bus to malls, downtown dropoff & pickup, tours to interesting events. Multiple things scheduled every day if one feels like joining in. I think hubby & I should move in lol. On Friday we meet with the facility manager for the 'money talk.' We know her personally & my SIL and niece both work there too, so there may be some leeway.
All Dad's paperwork (Will, POA, Health Care Representation Agreement) got done today, and Mom's Will too. That was a hard moment - she cried at the very thought of a will, but soon forgot once we left the lawyer's office (the positives of dementia?). We still have to do a Representation Agreement Section 7 for Mom's future financial & healthcare needs. The lawyer will draw that up, give us a call, and then we all have to go in to sign. Dad's been feeling a bit depressed and cynical since the loss of his driver's licence. I am working on being as accommodating as possible and trying to remember to ask if they want to go to town or want me to p/u anything when I'm headed that way.0 -
Bike dreams.....

Moves through the snow like a dream but drops a lot more stuff on the floor here at work.1 -
Ewww, slush-muck in the rims. You need to cycle through the pristine (2 ft. deep) snow and stay off the slushy roads, bwahahahaha! Now there's a workout!0
-
Rode the fat tire for commuting. Did have a choice about where to ride. I would love to be out on the trails in the nice clean snow. My dog would love it too! She loves running in the snow. She is funny to watch in the snow. She pounces at things I cant see and comes up with a face full of snow.0
