I've lost a vet again so I'm back to 9 shifts a week. I'm starting to ask myself why I switched from Electrical Engineering.

Two things that really get to me here at work. One is owners that complain when you've poured your heart and soul into a case. The other is pets that crash despite everything you've done is correct. I know pets aren't computers, but when cases go really south despite appropriate treatment, I can't help but take it a little personal.

@sufferlandrian -I'm genuinely a little bit concerned for your wellbeing.

Did the new vet leave? Or a different one? Ugh, I hope you get a rest soon.

The new vet left. The stress was getting to her. So now it's back to looking for another vet. I have one that wants to work for me who wont be available until May of next year but given how long it took to find the last vet, I'm going to take him up on it. He used to tech for me so he knows what he is getting into. Wish we were large enough to offer benefits. Of course then we would need to charge more so that would eliminate some of the people who need a break to get their pet treated. It's always a double edged sword.

Well, just finished a leg amputation at 1 AM. Lesson here? Don't let your dog outside to go potty unless you go with them. Cars can't see black dogs at night.

Cats in cones are hilarious. Does that make me a bad person?

We had someone call 4 hours ago about their dog that was vomiting and had diarrhea after a hike in Glacier Thursday night. They just called back, they are finally coming in. I have two questions. First, what happened in the last four hours that you think it's a problem that needs to be seen now as opposed to the first six times the dog vomited? Second, Why was the dog hiking in Glacier when dogs are prohibited off the paved road and camping areas?

I've done all the prep I can given the schedule I'm working again. I have Saturday off and it's going to be hot and long. I've got an 84 mile ride on the bike. It's a fund raiser for the Dave Thompson Search and Rescue. Can't really bag on a fund raiser for the guys that may be saving my hide some day.

Why does it not occur to people that some laws are actually for a reason?

We like to support the local Search & Rescue here too. The group always has an amazing fundraiser where they bring in the films from the Banff Mountain Film Festival, a week after they show in Banff. There's always amazing draw prizes for each of the two days (different films each night) like heli ski trips, new skis, fancy packs and hiking boots, technical clothing, Kicking Horse coffee, etc. I hope you do well on your ride!

Well, next week is finals, then a term paper that I can hopefully knock out in a week (yeah, right), then hopefully a bit of a breather before Fall classes start.

Do you have plans for your breather, or just veg-ing?

Well, I keep trying to daydream that I'll be able to actually slow down a little, but the reality is that I have projects around the house that have been on the back burner for way too long, so probably not.

Back to work. It was nice having two days off. Some day I'll actually have time off on a regular basis. A guy can always dream.

@sufferlandrian how was your Saturday ride?
  • sufferlandrian
    sufferlandrian Posts: 8,244 Member
It was fun! Made it in 7.5 hours. Not my best time but the last 20 miles it was 104 - 106 degrees. That's just over 41 degrees for you Celsius people. The smoke wasn't as bad as last year. The search and rescue folks always do a great job of putting on the ride. I was really happy that miles 83-84 were downhill.

That's a lot of work for a 78%. Is it a hard instructor?

It was a hard class that I didn't put enough effort onto through the semester. 😑

    Well then a 78% isn’t too bad. 😜
