Do you log beer as water? No? Then don't log coffee as water. Drink your water pure -- and lots of it!
Where do you get pure water????

I can get smart water, but it doesn't really talk, so I have no way of knowing how smart it really is.

Maybe it's too pretentious to talk to me.

It just doesn't like you. You must accept that.

Trying to get some certain minimum water intake per day is foolish. Water intake requirements vary wildly based on a million factors, and we get a lot of water just from the foods we eat.

Some days you may need a one liter of liquid. Some days you may need six.

By all means drink water. Drink whatever. Drink when you're thirsty, and make a point to drink when you're actually losing fluid such as when exercising. But don't think you need "ten cups a day" or whatever. That's total nonsense.

Being a Pisces (water sign) I can help you with this. I am the water whisperer.

    Begone with your logic!!

I don't drink beer, so no. But if I did, I'm sure it would count. If my pee pee is pale yellow, I'm doing ok.

If only plain water with nothing added did not hydrate you, I would already be dead. In fact, the human race would have died out ages ago, because last time I checked, women did not come equipped with special water-only teats*.

*(bolt-ons excepted, but then, those would kill you faster than drinking nothing at all, being filled with saline)

I log it as calories and a cup of water. Meh.

Although I log it separately, coffee is still mostly water and still hydrates you. Your body separates and processes food so it will take the water for hydration purposes just the same as any fluid you drink. I just like to log my water separately (if at all) but that's just because I want to measure anything I eat or drink that has calories separately.

My friend told me once that she wishes water had calories.

My water goal is philosophical. After being straight up addicted to soda and on the fruit juice roller coaster, i made the resolution to drink nothing but water. Knowing that hydration comes from a variety of sources, but knowing i had a better chance if i focused on the action of drinking water and not the deprivation of not drinking soda really helped. It's mind games, i know but it has worked surprisingly well for me. I can count the number of times I've had juice or water since Jan. 1. Victory for me! So, I log coffee and other calorie drinks as food. My water count is either pure water or water with non-calorie flavoring.

I don't count it, but it hardly makes a big difference as the cup of coffee is about 10 oz usually...and 10 oz is not going to make or break my water consumption for the day.

I only count straight water as water. I don't personally count any other fluids into that equation.

I wish MFP would remove that little feature so people would stop asking this question.

Will I get a trophy if I switch to that method?

I don't keep up with my water intake anyway. I guess I just wanted to give my opinion. ????

I don't track water. (that being said, it may be appropriate for some people who struggle with hydration without something to click)

If your urine is odorless and light yellow or colorless, you're hydrated enough. If it's strong or bright yellow, drink more. If it burns, see a doctor. If it's blue, stop eating smurfs.

I don't count it is water. Caffeine is a diuretic and a stimulant and the point of tracking water is for hydration purposes, so I think I am better off not counting it as water.

    Agreed.

But in the end it's not a big deal whether you count it as water or not, you'll still lose weight, just worry about logging your calories and make effort to stay hydrated throughout the day.

You are both dead, flat wrong. You have been misinformed by people who don't know any better.

Caffeine is a mild diuretic. Very mild. The added urine volume from the effects of caffeine in coffee and soda are small compared to the volume of fluid in the drinks. Replacing coffee with equal volumes of water does not lead to better hydration levels.

When I was drinking coffee I added it in with my food. In my opinion, just because it has water in it doesn't make it count as water in my eyes. But, I don't think it really matters one way or another, as long as you're staying hydrated. Do what makes you happy.

Wait, I'm not suppose to log my beer as water. But it's Michelob Ultra.. so it's pretty much water.

    LOL

I don't count it, or count it as a half of the amount I drank.
