The profile picture/avatar I don't really bother about: be it a picture of yourself, a random internet search, nothing etc. as long as it isn't racist or offensive I'm fine.

I also don't care for a message with a FR, if they don't have one that's fine, but if they do it's a nice.

However, if there is no information on the profile, little to no input into their diary, no forum posts and pretty much no real activity then I will defriend/decline them.

It's strange, you could have a view or something else if you don't like selfish. It looks boring to have nothing there

No pics and blank profiles have me hitting the decline/delete button.

I mean, if you can't even put forth the effort to add some info to your MFP account, how the hell are you gonna muster up the effort required to achieve successful, long-term health and fitness goals?

Because MFP info updates are directly linked to diet and fitness long term success...

Right? I guess I'm not willing to put in the effort required to achieve successful, long-term health and fitness goals, even though I've belonged here for over 3 years and HAVE achieved all of those things. All because I haven't bothered to fill out my profile information.

I also didn't bother to post any pictures of myself for the first year or two. When I finally did, I started getting all sorts of pervy PMs and lots of FR. So I posted a picture of me with my husband and that cut that down dramatically. So I do understand why some people don't want to post their own picture.

    Bingo!

I don't have many friends on here, and the ones I have I love. They chose to add me because they thought I was a good fit based on my posts.

I have a few friends that choose not to upload a profile picture of themselves, instead opting to use random pictures from the internet and that's totally okay by me. Not everyone is comfortable with having their image on the internet and some people struggle to find the words to fill out their profiles with. I only have the intestinal fortitude to upload head shots myself. To each their own! More important to me is whether or not they can take a moment to read my profile and send me a note explaining why they'd like to add me with their FR!

Meh - doesn't bother me if I look boring.

FYI, if you use the same pic in your avatar anywhere else on the internet (say your FB perhaps), someone could google image search you and find you. Putting your own face in your avatar is internet stupidity at its finest. Same goes for those people that use the same screen name here for any other tag on the internet. Makes it easy for the stalkers to find your FB, instagram, blog etc. Think smart, people. This is a public forum, not nursery school.
    Nailed it, tbh!

But beyond that, it's actually pretty standard procedure NOT to have photos of yourself as an avatar on most sites other than the EXCEPTIONS to that rule (FACEbook, dating sites) where it's kind of necessary. Almost ALL the people on the forums i've ever visited do not use photos of themselves primarily for fear of having their image photoshopped onto gay porn.

Some of us want to keep our privacy. I don't understand the need to be so open on the internet. I try to keep my internet footprint as small as possible. I don't care if others do not have pics, but they need to send me a message and their home page should give some info about what they are doing and why they are here, otherwise I reject the friend request.
This is my approach too. Although I still think uploading *some* picture is better than leaving the grey-face there. Just uploading a random picture makes the person seem more approachable and real. I guess it also gives some indication of their personality too, without compromising their privacy. I don't think I have any grey-faces on my friend list, but then I dunno if any have added me either...

You summed it up a lot better than I did!! I would add someone that has "some" kind of picture over someone who doesn't have one at all.

Even that rabbit that is so adorable!!:flowerforyou:

Honestly, this is far from a real fitness site. This is more like FB or Myspace now.

you sure have made a lot of judgement snooty remarks on this site. I totally disagree with you, I've made a lot of great friends on here that have kept me accountable and kept me going on my diet. but I can understand why you had that stick up your *kitten* all the time, I wouldn't be happy either if my husband or what you call your master, ordered me to lose weight.
