I peeked at your profile, I grew up in the town you live in. Family still there. I was intrigued because my grandparents used to gift my family with chocolates from there and told us that they remember when it was founded, in 1938. Good thing I am far away up north, but there is the danger of online ordering, hahahaha.
I should BURST out and get something for myself....

was able to play a full round of pickleball without a "water" break this past weekend.7

Staying in control of my diet and calorie budget through the long holiday weekend.. lots of Halloween candy and donuts and pizzas and soda and cookies.. quite a feast! And you know what?.. I still enjoyed the holiday immensely even though it was controlled and slightly restrictive 🙌14

I set a personal fastest 100 yards during my swim workout yesterday. It was my first swim of the season - I don't go to the gym during the summer because I'm too busy doing fun activities outside.
Surprised the heck out of me when an alert showed up. The previous record was from December 2022. Very interesting.13 -
Yesterday was a busy day, but I went for a bike ride yesterday even though I didn't have much time and it was cold and windy. I hate cycling when it is very windy. I did cut it a little short because it was getting dark, but that is a safety issue. Eight miles is still better than no miles.16

Finally, out of the Plus sizes in knit tops and sweaters, I can wear an XL instead of a 1X. Progress!18

My NSV is climbing over and between two car seats in the back of a Tesla, with a cozy wagon or whatever the heck those things are sticking from the trunk into the back seat and into my back and neck.
That will not be on repeat, mind you.
But I’m at least pleased to say, it was assumed (!) I’d fit, and me and my hips did so with no problem other than a moderate amount of cussing since there is no foothold in a Tesla. 🤬
And BTW, it appears I could sit in a car seat, if necessary. 🥳8 -
IS anyone looking to gain weight. all are losing weight. i have been losing weight but to gain is very difficult for me5

Feel free to post about your gain victories here too! Best if you leave the scale out of it, but tell us about your measurements and your strength increases.6 -
My NSV was this morning. I was able to cross my legs sitting in the pew in church.12

My NSV for this morning is having tracked everything and stayed within my calorie range for 10 days straight! I'm taking it one day at a time.... just focusing on today.22

Getting back into the groove after many weeks of travel and related illness.
I was genuinely scared if I still had it in me and could pick up where I left off.
It hasn’t been easy. My trainer took me down quite a bit on weights and pull up assist, and yoga has been hell, rather than fun, the past few days, but I’m hanging in there.
And even with deficits, my weight is bouncing like a rubber ball. But I know this happens and I’m patient.
I’m back in the game.18 -
The jeans that fit well when I started ~80 days ago are literally falling off me. I found a belt and have been using that, although I have been looking at clothing to. Also had a fantastic bike ride today, the first time I have felt a biker's high in a while.13

A friend of mine loves to take group photos whenever we get together. Sadly she has a habit of taking several pictures and then choosing the one SHE looks best in (rather than the one most of the group look best in). The other day I realized that I actually look good in photos these days, even her group shots! haha15

Increased my run intervals to a minute+ during my walk runs.. 🙌

I can easily and quickly climb three flights of stairs. A year ago I could barely get up one flight without stopping or being seriously out of breath.9

First, that I’m at a place mentally that’s healthy enough to tackle my weight with joy again! It’s been a long time.
Second, even though I feel like I’m dying, I can do my 1 min plank each day! It took a little bit to get up to a whole minute, so I’m very happy about that!
Third, redownloading this app, I’m so thankful that I got it 11 years ago right before some big life changes. Seeing the graph of my weight fluctuating with pregnancies, sickness, and health, I’m just really feeling thankful for this life I’ve been living. It’s been kind of a mess, but there’s been a lot of joy, too. And man, this body is RESILIENT! I feel inspired to take good care of it.13 -
2 years ago, I was struggling to walk 20 minutes and that was when I started to make some changes. Last night, I managed a 50 minute jog. Last month, I managed an hour and a half walk up and down hills and felt like I could keep going. I used to have terrible leg pain, but it's now gone. Now I want to keep this up and keep improving my overall fitness level.

Today's NSV
I have hit a bump in the road 1st 9lb (23lb) into my 5st (90lb) journey and I have not said, "Flip this for a game of soldiers. I'm going to stuff myself to death", as I have in the past. True, it's 10.44 and I'm still in bed, but that's a positive choice. I'll be off on today's 5 mile yomp as usual in half an hour.
Today is a new day, and I will live the life out of it as I have every day since late August.

I swam a mile and a half today.
I’d never swum laps til I broke a toe last November, and needed something that kept me “off my foot”. I was basically drown-proofed as a kid, so am a weak swimmer. I sucked. So I took six weeks of swimming lessons to improve.
I’m still a slow swimmer, and can’t manage a flip at the end (nausea!), but like the tortoise, I don’t quit, and I no longer care if someone judges my awkward swimming style. (Looking at you, young man who disrespectfully slaps the water to splash me in the face as you go by. One day you’ll be a senior and will think you are an arsehole, too. We The Old Folk all talk about you behind your back. 😈)
Anyway, this is an NSV that was never on my radar, and one I’m really proud of.12 -

I was always a poor swimmer. I took a class when I was in grad school because I knew how good it was for exercise. I still wasn't very good. I kind of wonder if maybe the folks teaching the class weren't great swim instructors.
Fast forward several decades. My gym has a pool. I started swimming more - with a mask, snorkel, and fins. At some point I had a moment when my attitude changed. I used to watch that black line go by and joke, "OH! Look! A black line!" I found it pretty boring. Eventually I realized that when I took long swims, once I put my face in the water I was isolated from everything else more than a few feet away from me. I get this feeling when I paddle whitewater rivers but in a different way. That black line became my friend.
Eventually I read some books on swim technique and slowly worked on mine. I still do some of my swims with mask and snorkel, but I've built up enough skill to just use swim goggles. Woo hoo!
When I go to the gym, I will often peek through a window at the pool to see how crowded it is. If there's multiple open lanes, I often do a swim workout even if that's not what I had in mind. Every now and then it's empty. Other times you have to just sit and wait for a lane. I don't like to swim at those times.7 -
I took adult learn-to-swim classes at the Y after I started on-water rowing, when I was in my late 40s. I'd had enough sloppy swim skills before that to survive in normal rowing situations, but knew I needed to be better.
After that class (repeated several times to keep improving 😆), I took a lap swim class or two at the same Y a couple of years later. (The lap swim ones were a new class then.)
All those classes were a huge help, both in skills and confidence. I still don't enjoy swimming, unfortunately, though I wish I did. But I can do it much better than before, still.
I'd strongly encourage anyone to try these things at any age. The "too old" thing is a disempowering myth. (Yes, some people have disabilities that limit what's safe to do. I recognize and respect that. I have some things I don't do for similar reasons. But age per se is not a disability, no matter the cultural mythology that says otherwise. Don't give that space in your head, I say . . . because if we merely decide on that mythological basis that we can't do a thing, we truly can't. Anything worthwhile takes time, effort, practice to do . . . and that's OK.)7 -
Funny - as a whitewater paddler, I generally always AVOIDED swimming because it meant I was no longer in the boat!
To this day when we are paddling and make a stop where people swim, I usually don't. I paddle canoes and kayaks - flat water and whitewater. I row a raft. I love SCUBA. You'd think I'd take advantage of awesome places to go swim. I like snorkeling in the ocean. I generally am not that inspired to just swim for fun. The pool is different. It's more meditative for me.
Funny, too, when new folks come to join club whitewater trips, sometimes they don't have all the required essential gear - often a helmet. When they say, "But I'm a good swimmer," it does not inspire confidence. I want people who don't want to swim! Then they stay in the boat! There's a reason we can roll them back up if we flip. Up is good. Swimming is bad....
I reckon it's all about the context.4 -
I'm having joint problems so started aquafit, it's my new favourite thing and much more of a workout than I thought it was going to be.11
