  • Not induced. No pitocin. Went into labor the day before my due date (I guess technically 2 before because I delivered the day before). They broke my water though. I had contractions all day at work, mild, but 3 mins apart for 12+ hours. Checked in to the hospital at 5a not dilated at all but with full on contractions (my dr said, don't come in until they're 3 mins apart and you can't walk, talk, or breathe). They had the nerve to tell me they'd wait to see if I was really in labor (and my "DH" had the nerve to fall asleep while I labored! I'd been up over 24 hours too!)! An hour later I was at 3 and they started an epidural (I have NO interest in natural birth!). A short hour later I was at 7.5! They broke my water then (at the same time to put the internal HRM on), and about a 1/2 hour later they did a C/S. I was confined to bed and had the continuous monitoring on.

I hated the C/S but I tell ya though, those 4 days in the hospital were probably some of the most relaxing anywhere! I let them keep him in the nursery at night and my husband went home. And we have no friends or family in the area so he popped in once a day or twice and other than that it was just me and a book and someone bringing me food for 4 days!

Thanks re the horse. That was my baby! He died actually 2 yrs ago day after tomorrow. It's my favorite picture though!

Breaking your waters can put increased pressure on the baby creating decels and being confined to bed does not help. Also epidurals can cause babies to have abnormal heart rate patterns. Combining both breaking waters artificially and epidural can just stress some babies too much. Have you thought about how to prevent these issues in the future to achieve a VBAC?

Here is the link to ICAN. They have wonderful moms there very experienced w/ VBAC.

I am sorry about the loss of your horse.

Hello ladies! I would like to officially join the group, though I have been keeping track of this thread for awhile now. My husband and I are pregnant with our first. We did all of the research online and found that it took on average 5 months for people our age to conceive. We decided to stop protecting and wait until March to really try with ovulation tests and all of that. Boy am I glad we used birth control up until now, because within two weeks I was pregnant.

I have been on MFP since late June and have lost 35 pounds. I talked to my doctor about how much weight I should gain and he said about 25-35. I'm hoping it's at the lower end, but at this point I'm doing pretty well. I am on my 7th week and have actually lost .2 pounds since finding out. I have my good days and my really bad days when it comes to being healthy. Overall, I have been pretty good about getting in lots of fruits, veggies, and protein. Still working on the whole grains.

Anyway. Just wanted to introduce myself. I get to go for my first ultrasound next week, so I'm really excited to actually see the little peanut. It will make it feel so much more real!
  • I talked to my doctor about doing Vbac this time, she said she can't make a recommendation for it until I get further along and she sees how big the baby is. I have a flat pelvic something or other and my baby's head was extremely large. To the point where they thought he migh have water head. So my section was scheduled at around 7 months, then at 8 they weren't sure, then as it got closer and closer she wanted to try vaginal, but after monitoring head size with maternal fetal health they decided it would be safer to do the c-section. I actually went into labor the night before my scheduled section and didn't dialate more than a 2. They even had trouble getting his head out with a c-section.

Estimation of baby's weight in late pregnancy by U/S can be off +/- 2 pounds. It is an unreliable method to determine fetal size, but "big baby" is a common reason women are advised to induce early, which often leads to a c/s or agree to a c/s. Women have all different kinds of shapes of pelvises, it is often said a women cannot birth w/ a certain size pelvis, but w/ an unhindered birth women can. It is OB's restrictions in particular on women and hospital protocol that is one of the main reasons the c/s rate in this country is sky high. What was the size of your ds's head? Not dilating past 2 doesn't mean there was anything wrong, just that you needed time.

Same here. My mom was warning us that it took my parents 5 years. His mom was warning us that it took them 7 years. So, being realistic, dh and I were expecting it to take months or even years. Yep, we got 'er done first try. :drinker:

I made my first OB appointment this morning, yay! January 3rd. I kind of insisted on making the appointment at 12 weeks and they agreed to do that for now but said they'd call me if the doctors or nurse had a problem with it. They repeated several times they normally schedule the first appointment between 7 and 9 weeks so I have a feeling I'll be getting a call. I just really don't understand why they would have such an issue with me coming in 3 weeks later than "usual" but if they insist I guess I'll be wasting hundreds of dollars to go in December instead of January. :grumble: I don't really want to start my relationship with my OB office off on the wrong foot but I really hope I can keep the January 3rd appointment. It's perfect because I'm already off work that day for the New Year holiday so I won't even have to tell my supervisor until my 2nd appointment around 16 weeks (you know, unless I'm really really showing before then  ).

Just posting mostly to see if my baby ticker works.

Thinking about going for a run today. My doctor told me it was perfectly fine, so I gave it a try over the weekend. It felt really good, so I'm hoping to get back into it. I'll just take it slow and steady.

    That's a great question. I don't remember, and didn't take it down. I'm one of those mom's.

I do believe the incidence of c/s are too high in the US> I heard one woman say it was like going to mcdonald's you just go in get what you want then leave. She was lucky, not all of them go that well, and I don't believe it is the best thing for the mother or the baby to do that. But you know how people are about elective surgeries and controlling out comes.

Those little tickers are so cute. Makes it easy to remember exactly how far along you are. Good luck during your first trimester I wish you well, no nausea and lots of energy:drinker: (no drinking though)

    Good afternoon everyone!

Well, I took four days off because of a nasty stomach virus in my house. Everyone has gotten it but me, knock on wood. All I can say is yuck, yuck, yuck and laundry, laundry, laundry.

I did get my 6 miles in today and burned 665 calories.

Hope you all are doing great.

    Hello All
Just checking in my eating went out
the window this weekend but I kept
my water intake up. :) This week I want
to incorporate walking in the am with
    my cycling each evening.

No word yet from the doc about my
blood test so i'm still a little on edge
but i'm just praying for the best. I'm
still having a lot of symptoms tender
breasts, tired a lot, and a little nausea
but only when i'm hungry so i'm trying
to eat little meals throughout the day.

I'm also testing my ticker, hopefully
    it works. :)

    Have a good day everyone!
  • I slept so poorly last night, but I did 4 circuits of Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism today. Pretty easy peasy all things considered. I ate a lot on Sunday, just kind of out of control. I have been eating 1300-1400 w/ counting my extra exercise calories and I wonder if I am compensating by eating more a day or two each week and should just boost by calories to maintenance. I feel fearful of gaining, but I have already gained 5-6 pounds. I have been indulging a wee bit a couple of times a week, controlled though and not sure if that has anything to do w/ it. I hate this feeling of uncertainty and gain stuff. It was easier before pregnancy b/c if I was hungry and had consumed my calories for the day that was it, but now I have a snack to feed the hunger or nausea.

I feel you! I have been eating really about every hour! I am just STARVING. And its hungry, it's not boredom etc like when not preg. It's ravenous! I set to maintenance around 8 weeks and it helped greatly with the fatigue. I've been pretty easily sticking below it though even eating what feels like all day long. I have caved though and ate, for the first time in over 3 years (!) fast food hamburgers and it was SO good! Usually just the thought of them makes me sick! The major down side to this though.... I can't keep up with the dishes!! There is a giant stack by time I finish work!
  • 4 weeks lefts for me!

I've been having a rough time lately. I've been sick, my kids are teething, and my husband is gone. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.

Yay! I got word from the doc
    yesterday :) my HCG levels
are increasing which is a good
    sign :) I'm so excited!

    I did experience some very
    light bleeding again this morning
but I'm thinking now that it's my cervix
because it was gone as soon as it came.

    Good morning ladies!

I just wanted to check in with my weight. When I found out that I was pregnant 2 1/2 weeks ago I was at 167. I weighed in this morning and am still there. I'm happy about that since I still have 6 or so weeks to go before the first trimester is over and should only gain 3-4 pounds. Don't worry, though. I am eating plenty for me and baby and making sure to snack on something healthy whenever I get hungry.

I have a random question. There is this Christmas tea called candy cane lane that I absolutely love. It is decaffienated, so I'm not concerned about that. It is, however, a green tea and I have read that green tea can prevent folic acid absorbtion. Do you guys drink green tea? I was thinking if I had it before bed a few hours after my last meal it might be alright, but I don't know.

pmaria10: congrats on your HCG levels. I'm excited for you!

AmandaR910: Sorry you aren't feeling very well. You are almost there, though!! I bet tomorrow will be a much better day.

mjtwomail and mamatoabunch: I totally understand being hungry all of the time. I feel like I'm hungry every hour. It's gotten to the point where I had to have my husband take all of the cookies and chips to work with him so I only grab good stuff.

Hope everyone has a great day!

i'm getting irritated with my ins company still waiting on paperwork to OK a dr's visit. I'm 1/2 way through week 11 and waiting on the paper they said was being sent out 2 weeks ago. Ah well, what's a Dr going to do right now anyway? I'll probably be 14 or so weeks before i get in. Dang gvmt offices working at a snail's pace. I wish I could be only mediocre at my job and still get paid and great benefits!

On a better note though, no weight gain yet (I was up 1.5 and back down) despite ravenous eating at maintenance level, though mostly (key word, mostly) healthy. I don't think I need to gain any in these first 12 weeks so I'm happy not to. I have definitely not deprived myself when hungry!

On a down note, my 3 yr old woke up at 6:30 this morning, which means i had to skip the gym because my husband will not get up with him in the morning. Sometimes i just turn on Toy Story and leave but he was wide awake this morning so it I figured i should stay as he probably would not just relax on the couch like he often does if he gets up before i get home from the gym. Then we got donuts on the way to drop him off at school (yummy! we dont get them often). And it's a sad day because it's the day my horse died 2 yrs ago. And it's cold. And raining.

Hope it gets better soon. Teething can be rough. My 7 year old still gets grumpy with his big people teeth growing in and he can't tell us. He just gets all moody and won't eat.

I'm going to my 20 week U/S today to do the body parts check. My husband and little boy will get to go this time, it will be their first time seeing baby.

I didn't weigh today, I don't weigh after I eat and had eaten early breakfast. Tuesday is my weigh in day, so I'll have to weigh tomorrow.

Tomorrow is my glucose test and dr's visit. I'm not super excited, but more because I know how bad that test makes me feel after I do it. Even after I've had food, I always feel aweful. Hoping this time will be different.

We had our U/S yesterday too! It is so cool how the doctor was able to count all of the fingers and toes. U/S has become so detailed, I do not remember being able to see every little detail with my two little boys. We are still having a GIRL woohoo, I guess my doctor was right on at 12 weeks when he first determined the gender. Everything looks perfect with baby and all of our screenings have come back with excellent results. Now it's time to shop and prepare for the shower, seems like with Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up followed immediately by birthdays for both of my boys time is going to fly. I think I'll be planning one event after the other, all back to back. I hope this baby comes right in between both of my boys birthdays because I really do not want to have 2 kids with the same birthday, the two we have are 2 weeks apart and this one is due the day after my youngest ones birthday. Boy oh boy.... have any of you decided on names yet?

BTW this ticker and is 10.5 oz weight of the baby is way off.... my little one is already 18 oz ! Crazy 1lb 2oz at 19 weeks? I think she is going to be another big one in our family!

Oh my goodness the later ultrasounds sound so amazing! At this point I am just excited about establishing a heartbeat. I can't wait to get where you two are! Though I've been told to enjoy this time without the baby bumb because it's not going to be as fun as I think it will be
  • 27 days until delivery!!

So ready. Weight gain is still staying at 24-25lbs, so very happy about that.

Out of my three pregnancies that made it this far, this is definitely my easiest third trimester by far.

I've never had one, but some friends have, but the 3D ultarsounds creep me out. The babies are NOT cute in them. They are nasty looking aliens! When I see their photos I'm just like... ohhh, it's a baby... OK, that's great, but I can't look at it anymore!

I haven't had one either. ITA! I think the babies look weird in them too.
  • Just got back from a great work out, 614 calories!! (50 minutes on treadmill, 25 minutes on elliptical).

Also did my 100 Push Ups Program exhaustion test (60 modified push ups) and working on Week 2 Day 1 of 200 Squats, maxed out at 20.

As for 3d/4d ultrasounds, I like them lol. Though I will say some I've seen are better than others. I've had several.

Yikes! The pregnancy hormones are RAGING today. I went for a 40 minute walk during lunch and that seems to have calmed me down a little.
I'm not sure I'll be able to tolerate this moronic coworker for the next 8 months.

So.... finally got my paperwork in the mail OKing me to see a Dr! Yay! But, there are none within about 25 miles of here... So, they put in a request to switch me to the sister plan which actually covers my area and the local hospital ... and I will find out in 4-6 weeks if that was accepted, then I can call and make an appointment. That will put me between 14 1/2 and 16 1/2 weeks before my first visit (providing my Dr can see me the same week my approval comes through, likely I won't get in until 17 weeks or so... probably 18 or more since timing puts me right at Christmas week when I will likely be trying to make an appointment.) So long as they get me in by 20 weeks, he doesn't accept patients who are past 20 weeks.

I shouldn't complain, it's free [state] healthcare, but seriously people! Ah well, at least maybe on only my first or 2nd visit I will be able to find out the gender!

I did not have a 3d/4d ultrasound, it was a 2d in the office with the specialist. It is just that the technology is so much better than when my little ones were born. My husband wants to go get the 3d/4d but I too am creeped out by the way the babys look too.
