There was a woman called Valerie Winters that lost 125 lbs in 6 months drinking green smoothies. Google 'green smoothie experiment valerie winters"

I am overweight, and I add bananas to my green smoothies. What's bad for one person may not be for the next. Everyone's body is different.

I just have one question, since we've established that mayo is the mother of all evil.

Where does Miracle Whip fall in?

    COMPLETE SIN! Don't even!

    Oh, good.

I feel that way about it anyway so I guess it doesn't change my life any!

Now if you'll excuse me, I have a date with my blender on the big cheese in the sky.

I wish a company DID pay me for this...

Fruit doesnt have any sugar in it...sugar is something that can only exist if you refine something...a banana doesnt have sugar it has a holistic nature to it...if you refine the banana you can get sugar from it...but when its a BANANA it doesnt behave like refined sugar because its a banana...they are totally unrelated...

the food industry has trained people to think about 1 nutrient in an item...cant have fruit its got too much sugar...cant have avacado its got too much fat...really? God put these fruits and vegetables on the planet to eat and give us a healthy life...so eat them and be healthy!

    This gives me second-hand embarrassment

Just because you CAN do something, doesn't mean you should.

Everyone's body functions remarkably the same, except for a few relatively rare medical circumstances. That is why RDA's can exist and BMR calculators, and calorie counting as an option to lose weight, on and on.

The only real danger is that your tastebuds can't survive flavor of that magnitude!

    They're delicious.

    Based on this:
I wish a company DID pay me for this...

Fruit doesnt have any sugar in it...sugar is something that can only exist if you refine something...a banana doesnt have sugar it has a holistic nature to it...if you refine the banana you can get sugar from it...but when its a BANANA it doesnt behave like refined sugar because its a banana...they are totally unrelated...

    And then this:

    What?

    Nothing wrong with Dairy!

keep telling yourself that...you're headed to an early grave...better get some life insurance

I really hope you're being sarcastic because fruit does have sugar, avocados do have fat and there isn't anything wrong with dairy. I drink milk, eat yogurt, fruit and avocados. Ain't nothing wrong with me nor will I be "heading for an early grave"

    or so you think....

this will show you medical and scientific research that backs up my anti dairy claims...but you probably wont want to educate yourself...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30gEiweaAVQ

A youtube video of someones opinion proves to me nothing.

Living life sir you are doing it wrong.

    Take your utter nonsense elsewhere.

you obviously are going to continue to be an uneducated fool...who struggles with losing weight...just trying to help you out...but i guess you want your kids to grow up without a dad...

Oh boy where to start...where to start...

First off, attacks are against the TOS. You may want to get familiar with those.

Secondly, Sugar does have fruit. Everyone knows that. You say it doesn't....show me scientific proof that sugar is not in fruit.

Third, there is NOTHING wrong with dairy. You can post your youtube videos all day long. I want SCIENTIFIC PROOF. Not a youtube video. Peer reviewed studies? You got any of those???

I bet I'm gonna be waiting a long long time...

If they want to juice, let them. If they don't, cool. Don't worry about anyone but yourself :flowerforyou:

If these are the new words to live by, I guess they can go ahead and shut down the MFP forums.

Well, except for the hug/kiss/bang/shake/tackle/pass/ignore/marry/kill threads.

No, no, no, no, NO!!!!! Fruit does contain sugar. That sugar is fructose. Fructose is almost wholly processed by the liver and thus there are some scientists who suspect a link between over consumption of fructose, even from whole fruits, with non-alcoholic fatty liver syndrome and there was some research suggesting this might be the case. A recent study, however, has indicated that is is not fructose consumption that is linked with non-alcoholic fatty acid disease but instead excess calories of any type. It is likely that we will see a good deal of conflicting information as each new study works toward building a full understanding on the dietary effects of fruit sugars, etc.

That being said, to suggest that fruits do not contain sugar is just plain WRONG.

does fruit contain fructose...yes...but does it have the same effects on the body as refined sugar...NO.....our bodies and cells run on fructose...why do you think God made these fruits for us to eat? the point was bananas and refined sugars are NOT the same... and I never said that an avocado didnt have fat in it...

Pretty sure "bodies and cells" mainly run on glucose, actually.

Pretty sure the trees/bushes put the fruit there, as a way to grow more trees/bushes and not for us to eat.

How are refined sugars different? How do our bodies distinguish the difference?
    Do you even science?

Only a response to the bolded thought, not anything else in this quoted discussion:

Often times the trees and bushes put fruit there specifically to be eaten because that's the best way to get their seeds transported across distances that the wind would not be able to provide quite as well. This is often the case with sugar laden fruits. It's a mutualistic relationship between a plant and animal. The plant provides the animal with food and the animal provides the plant with seed transport and sometimes seed preparation (the act of going through an animals digestive tract is what activates the seed to germinate once it has been defecated out).

haha really? this study is BS...the sugars that you get from blending or juicing are NOT the same and do not have the same effect on your body as processed sugar in cookies, sweets etc. ive been juicing and blending for 5 years...Ive lost 100 lbs, Im more fit and active than I have ever been and my blood tests are excellent....

I'm juxt wondering what company pays you to say this stuff.

    Aha!

I think I found the point at which this thread started heading off the rails...which would be at banana sugar that isn't really sugar because banana.

This. Our bodies actually convert fructose to glucose. Carbs too. Everything that is a "sugar," regardless of the type of sugar it is, gets converted into glucose.

Sorry, but that's nonsense. There's millions upon millions of worse things you can eat than fresh fruit and veg; in any form. Do they sate your appetite less than eating them whole? Yes. Should you be conscious of how many calories any smoothies/juices you make contain? Yes. Just like anything else you ingest.

Again, green juices do not contain calories. The nonsense is yours.

Not meaning any offense. Since when did juices of any kind not have any calories? If you throw in 10 stalks of celery, there goes 10 calories. A pound of spinach? another 30. A bunch of carrots? another 40. so about it being nonsense...... There is no such thing as no calories, they might be so small that they are negligible, but the calories are still there. Please back up your "research or knowledge" before you tackle someone else's.

True. I just didn't go that far into the details.
