bottle of 2000 J Shram sparkling wine from Shramsberg on ice! Bought it in 2002 to have on a special occasion but couldn't drink on wedding because we had a destination wedding. So this is as good an occasion as any.

thank you guys for all the good wishes. I am just so relieved to finally have a job again. Toasting with the $100 bottle of J Schram tonight. Ironically I will only be on the job for 3 days before I leave for a week for the wedding. they are totally cool with that though so I am happy. I can enjoy vegas now that I know I have a job to come back to.

I'm so getting into this group right now. I sing/work in the most popular gay bar in my town and so there's almost always a drink in my hand. I'm a singer in the Friday Night Diva Show, which is a variety show with drag queens and drag kings and live singers and sexy dancers - it's so much fun. I've set new rules for myself with my drinking - switched to calorie free mixers alternating water with each cocktail, and remembering to dance on the dance floor whenever I can to burn off the extra. My current favorite is gin and diet 7-up with an extra lime squeeze. It's almost a gin and tonic, but without the extra calories. On Saturdays I'm just kind of all-over help - running ice when the bar back is busy or whatever, but sometimes I'm the Jell-o shot girl and people are always wanting to buy me shots. And we definitely don't use sugar free Jell-o. I've been telling them I can't drink while I'm working but I'll be sure and save it for later. So, it's not the drinking that really gets me....it's when I get home with all my friends and everyone wants to order pizza and there's very little else in the house to eat because I always forget to go grocery shopping....

But, so far, I'm down 5.2 pounds since January 1st. Just gotta keep at it, right??

wow, what a wild and crazy life you have, sounds like fun! I can see how it can get out of hand calorie-wise and planing-wise, but planning may be the best thing for you.....learning the right groceries to have on hand and telling your friends "go nuts with the pizza, I've got some chilie all ready to heat up".

    good fun and good luck!

CONGRATS and HUGS!!!! what an enormous relief! I was laid off a year ago and 3 months later a company that I'd worked for 8 years prior hired me back! I thanked them again today for hiring me, I'm still feeling incredibly lucky. So, enjoy the wedding and I hope your job provides you with at least what you need if not what you want!

Absolutely! Just keep at it. I am purposely having a 'Dry January'. I had every possible taste and cocktail I wanted over the holidays, so it's actually nice. My problem with wine (which I love) is that I find I eat more after I've had a few glasses of wine. My blood sugar spikes and I just want to eat everything in the house. My husband likes wine, too, so it will be back in the food log, eventually, but just getting started here after the holidays, so I have some time to work up to it. Moderation in all things is so hard for me!!

5.2 pounds already? That is terrific! Keep up the good work!

Congrats on the job and enjoy the bottle!!

I had coconut rum and pineapple yesterday .... and now its the weekend .... so my realistic goal is to not get drunk ..... my unrealistic goal is to only have 1 drink per day!

Best of luck everyone and Happy Friday!

0 last night, although I really, really, wanted one. What helped is that I had a 9:10 volleyball game and then when I got home, I was so tired, I went straight to bed. I don't know if we'll be able to keep to our "sober week" promise though...the weekends are so hard, especially when the neighbors aren't being sober with us.

So, with that in mind, DH has an idea to pick 3 or 4 sober nights a week and then stick to them. That way we're not confined to this night or that night and we don't have to sequester ourselves from our lives because we don't want to be tempted. Yes, I know we could just hang out with our friends and not drink, but we have no willpower...isn't that why this is my home? :drinker:

I definitely belong in this group. I just don't feel relaxed until I've had a glass or two of whiskey on ice in the evening. I used to only drink on the weekends but somehow alcohol has crept into the week days as well. A few weeks ago I switched over to liquor from beers with a really high calorie content (think chocolate stouts). I don't know if I did myself any favors but I figure it's a start. I'd like to get through this weekend without a drink but I don't know if it will happen. Wish me luck haha.

Wow...I've totally found my group! It's comforting to know that I'm not the only one struggling with losing pounds while still being able to indulge in a refreshing beverage every now and again (or every night).

My drink of choice is rum and coke...well make that Pepsi. And I just absolutely cannot make myself drink diet soda. In fact, I never drink any kind of soft drink except when I'm drinking.

I'd like to change to wine, but there are only a few that I like and when faced with a choice, I will always choose rum.

So what's a girl to do? I've decided I need to choose abstinence (except for maybe one or two days per week), just like most of the rest of you. I guess great minds think alike.

Thanks to whomever thought of starting this group!

    Not sure about tonight.
I was reading that to drink less you should drink something you don't like! doesn't that seem like such a waste of calories? I don't know, maybe it's worth trying!

after about a 12 pack of blue moons on new years eve.. i have only had two drinks since.. one bloody mary on Jan 1st. and one glass of wine last night..

I can give up drinking.. but when i do drink i go all out.. why is this ? other people have this issue? or i feel down in the dumps if im not drinking with friends.. its like im not fun.. ya know.. then i get the peer pressure.

Have been VEERRRY GOOD. ~ 4 drinks per week for 6 weeks.
MAJOR FAIL: Tonite, 4 British pints of my favorite beer doubled my calorie goal.
    'Tis a journey.

    Oy.

6 drinks last night. Skinny B!tches made with clementine vodka with 1/2 a lime and 1/2 a lemon. Good, but deadly and 2 of the 6 drinks were shots. (Oh, and restrained myself to only 2 pieces of pizza.)

Yeah, I'm not logging it.

Hi all can I join you?

After a long NYE weekend of drinking, my hubby and I have decided to avoid alcohol as much as possible. The goal is not to drink until March (when we're going to Budapest - Christmas present - thank you darling hubby!!)

So far I've survived one whole weekend and a Friday night - usually the worst night, glass of sauvignon blanc after a hard week is sooooooo tempting...

But tinight I'm going to a pub quiz with some friends. I had planned to drive, so I never had any excuse to drink.

But now one of the other girls (who is pregnant) has said she will drive and I know sitting in the pub with the others drinking I will be tempted. I've also gone out with hubby for a big lunch so my calories are pretty much used up already.

But I'm hoping by saying this in writing I'm going to be able to resist temptation!!
  • Have cut back on drinking to twice a week. Tonight is my night to tear it up! Wish me fun my fellow lushes. :drinker:

    I concur....

Yesterday 3 vodka tonics and 2 small glasses of wine...

Total drinks for the week: 13

Goal: Less than 13 for the week...day one is tonight
