So obviously I'm a newbie. After reading this thread I googled P90x and Power90, I didn't know there was such a workout! What is a good place to start? Power90? Can you ever find the DVD's cheaper cuz holy cow they are pricey!

I'm on my second week of INSANITY. Love the challenging workouts and will have to say that looking at Shaun T is definitely a great way to stay motivated!

To quote your own profile.... " I need to set a good example for my kids". I guess that doesn't count for buying work out systems that actually work. Sorry don't mean to come down on you, but I just hate when people look to ripoff people.

I don't think they meant to rip any one off. The DVDs do seem pricey when you take into consideration that you can buy other fitness DVDs at WalMart for around $15 and of course, everyone is looking for ways to save money right now.

I thought the same thing, originally. However, once I realized that the $120 meant getting a full work out system with a full 12 workouts - the cost is really the same or less: 12 DVDs X $15 each = $180 whereas P90X is $120 which is $60 cheaper. Also, when you consider a gym membership even on the cheap end of $20 per month is $240, then $120 is much more reasonable and I don't have to pay a trainer. When you take everything into consideration, the cost really is reasonable.

The fact is, you can only legally purchase new from Beachbody or a Beachbody coach. Folks have purchased 'used' sets on ebay or craigslist, but you want to be very careful there because there are quite a lot of bootleg copies out, professing to be 'new'. If you get a bootleg copy and something is wrong with the DVD, you won't be able to get a replacement and most times, buying 'used' means you only get the DVDs and not the guidebook, nutrition guide or workout schedules.

$120 does seem like a lot, but as you can tell from all of the Beachbody Faithful here - you really can get a lot out of them! Hope this helps! :)

I wanted to answer your question also about where to start. It really depends on you! I have never done Power90, but a friend I know and my sister-in-law are currently doing it and they both like it a lot. Power 90 is about half the price of P90X and I think it is only 5 or 6 videos vs. the 12 in P90X. I understand that Power90 is not quite as difficult as P90X, so if you wanted to work up to P90X, you could consider starting with Power 90.

There is another similar program you might consider, called ChaLEAN Extreme. It is also $120, not as hard core as P90X but you can still get awesome results with it. The workouts are also shorter - most ChaLEAN workouts are 30-45 minutes vs an hour for P90X workouts. I've done a couple of rounds of ChaLEAN and my 15 year old daughter is currently working out with me on this round and we both love it! :)

Power 90 and P90X are both led by Tony Horton and ChaLEAN Extreme is by Chalene Johnson.

There are quite a few threads here on MFP for all of these workouts, so if you want to do a search for them, you can read the threads and see what others think!

Plus right now until the end of January you can get $30 off the cost of Chalean Extreme if you purchase it through Beachbody or a coach!

Anyone else done the Shakeology workouts? The 30 is pretty good, a little easier than Power 90 I think but the 50? Holy Core Work Batman! It going back in the box before I hurt myself, lol.

Currently on my 6th week of P90X and planning my next series but not sure which one to do. I'm looking to lose about 36 lbs. Should I do Insanity? Chalean Extreme? Turbo Jam/ Fire? etc or a hybrid of programs.

Hey all! I finished P90X about three months ago, and although I definitely loved the series I'm glad to be done. It was a challenging three months, but can't say I'll do it again-my results were not worth the effort I put in. Anywho, I decided to bump myself down to a more lean-focused program so I finished up Slim in 6 with decent results. Talk about BORING though! :) I may try Insanity next, not sure though. I may enjoy some Beachbody-free time for a while. My knees are horrible (multiple surgeries on both), and most of their programs seem to just destroy my kness (very ouch). Maybe I just haven't found the right one yet. Suggestions?

If you're already have very bad knee problems, then Insanity is seriously the wrong workout for you.

Hey there! Yep, it's pricey but worth it. Buying it online elsewhere is super risky, so keep that in mind. Also, don't forget that Beachbody's shipping is beyond SLOOOOOWWWWW. Just when you're pumped to start a program, yea, you have to wait a week or two or four. My suggestion? Buy it from a friend. I'm "renting" mine to my brother right now (finished p90x a few months back),. so if you can find someone to borrow it from, you may save quite a bit!

Great work! I created my own exercise entries for Power 90 and I use the data from my heart rate monitor. Look under your "my exercises" tab and then "create new exercise".
  • I am addicted to good old fashioned TURBO JAM! :) Maybe I'm a little old school... I really should go buy the Turbo Fire but I'm super intimidated by it.

What do you all think is the best purchase for the best results (for someone who can't handle EXTREMELY intense, fast paced workouts.. even though I am young, guess it's a mental thing) .. Turbo Fire, Insanity OR P90X?

I need to start something new. Turbo Jam every day is starting to get old... (Although I do LOVE it, don't get me wrong!!)

i think you might be up to making the switch to Turbo Fire. Don't short change yourself. Also, I hear that the music is great.

I'm new on here but I am on week 4 of TurboFire and I love it. I tried P90X awhile back but it wasn't the right program for me. So far I've lost a ton of inches and 12lbs since I started. TurboFire has "new to class" options where she goes through the routines and breaks them down for you especially if you've just started. I still use the "new to class" option on the longer routines because I'm still learning them. My fav routines are the HIIT ones. High intensity and short in time.

I can't afford TurboFire and the advanced routines all at once all upfront so I did the payments over 6 months. BeachBody does have payment plans for most of their programs.

It's super tough, but it has greatly improved my cardio endurance. We completed a full round of it (63 days) and we're still doing the Max workouts from the 2nd month as part of our P90X hybrid. We still have to press pause at least once during a workout, so it hasn't become a piece of cake.

That's awesome, thank you for your reply. Now I'm curious if anyone has considered or is willing to do a DVD exchange type thing. I would really like to try Insanity, but currently paying on student loans and just can't afford much beyond the neccessities right now. Any one have any suggestions??
