I'm with lula on this one, new month new focus & new challenge!! Last week was a bust, I celebrated my birthday and then some!! I really want to get focused on my fitness, so this means working out at least 4 days a week, I'll try for 5! This will be a testing week as well since I get to stay with my bf all week and I know I'll be tempted to just go back to his house and relax with him!! I'll also get the chance to get him to eat healthier with the dinners I'll make him. I'm going to keep eating breakfast for the rest of the week, but I don't feel like it is helping me much, I can't really tell though since I ate absolutely horribly the past week. So for now, my 2 focuses are to 1. Eat breakfast and 2. Work out 4-5 times this week.. We'll see how it goes!

I hope everyone had a great weekend! Here's to a new week! happy monday

Yeah! Everyone sounds enrgized and refocused for the next couple of weeks!
I am doing well with the workout program Sexy Female, I like it. Well, maybe not today (day 3) which is with the jump rope, wall sits, and side raises!
But my diet has been terrible. The whole weekend was just eating like crap. I even went to Taco Bell and Fazoli's, where I have not been in years! I really want to get to where I am having a cheat meal once or twice a week.
I got another groupon for dream dinners, so I think that will help for meals. I can usually do pretty good during the week for breakfast and lunch.

Hey ladies!!! Sorry I went AWOL!! My sister and her family returned from being stationed in Japan for 3 years on Friday afternoon, I had a Masterclass Fri evening and then worked the Zumba Basics 1 and 2 trainings Saturday and Sunday! So I was super busy and ate waaaay too badly :frown: So, today I start fresh, again, with a cleanse/detox. This weekend my family is going to Adventureland waterpark and amusement park, so that means I have to be in a swimsuit. So I have to kick it into gear and get rid of the weekend damage. I am focused and ready to roll!!!

Love all of the energy, motivation and support going on here!! You ladies keep me moving forward!! I read through the thread and I'm so behind there's no way I can comment on everything, but know this, you're all awesome and inspire me!!

Love this group!! I know we will all have successes this week!! Good luck all!

Oh and Happy Belated birthday shander!!!!!:drinker:

I hear you, Jen, on the eating bad part! I went to Water World yesterday-so much fun! You will look better in your swimsuit than the vast majority-trust me:wink:

I still have my massage scheduled for Wednesday-which marks two weeks after I started Sexy Female, I have been pretty compliant with that schedule but haven't really attempted the flip diet!

Completed 1st week of Leangains without problems. Didn't get much water in while doing all kinds of housework yesterday so the scale wasn't very friendly this morning. But I've got my jug now and hoping it's all just water weight. I can't imagine it's anything else since I stayed within my calorie target and exercised all but Saturday. So we'll see. 1 more week of LG and I'll reassess.
Another quick question. Do you do the 16 hours or 14 hours? I read on the website that for women, sometimes 16 is too long. I'm up at 2:30 a.m. and not to bed til 9 p.m. with kids and family, but I set my time for noon to 8 pm. I'm wondering if I should change it to like 11 am to 9 p.m. Any thoughts or experience you have had will be very helpful.

The weekends are so terrible. Love the fact we can do whatever, but leaves too much room to relax doesn't it?! I'm sure you two rocked/will rock your swimsuits and go/will get in a lot of movin' just being out and about!

Lula- I've been doing 8pm-12pm. I read that too about women. Something about our darn homones...aren't they always getting in the way?! So, although I've been doing 16 hours, I haven't been too worried about eating a little early. Like Saturday, we had a late brunch so I ate around 11am. I'm trying to make sure it fits into life without overdoing it (even though I over analyze it all!) So I def. think you'd be okay going with his guidelines for females. The noon just works for me during the workday since 12pm is our lunch break.

Um, me too on the whole Taco Bell thing. It was not a good idea to eat fast food after not eating it for so long. But I spent all day yesterday fixing our truck that had an epic meltdown last week, so it happened and I'm trying to get over it.

I'm glad it's a new month. I agree with all you ladies, it's time for new challenges. My main focus for the next 2 weeks is cardio and endurance training., since I'll be in Yellowstone in a few weeks. We plan on having a very active trip with lots of hiking, etc. The elevation is waay higher over there than it is here, so I'm trying to prepare myself and now I'm entering the final push to get ready, cause it's almost go time! I started C25K last week, so that will help me with my endurance, and, as luck would have it, my Zumba instructor revamped our routine to focus on endurance. Yay!

Hope all of you have a fantastic week! Let's kick some butt

Hi Friends! Back after a busy weekend. Did the warrior dash...INTENSE! it took me just under an hour...my last 5k was about 27 minutes! It was SUPER hot here and my main focus was not hurting myself on the terrain and not getting heat exhaustion. It was a challenge and I'm happy I did it.

My carbs were great last week. I had some really succssful days but Thursday-Sunday were "high carb"...not exactly cycling! But I like the challenge it presents and I think I want to keep incorporating it. That said, this week is NOT a week for me to do that. I will once again be taking Thursday-Sunday off in terms of diet for a music festival so rather than starting a challenge I am going to wait until next week and then jump back on the carb routine.

CutMd - I love your bikini body! Work it girl. I think you would fit right into a bikini shoot so keep striving but know you look amazing!

Good job everyone else and happy August!

I had to opt for whey protein after working out this morning, and I worked out late last night so I had my shake at 930pm. So my leangains window is screwed up today. Going to just hold out till lunch to get a 'meal' in but going to have to either look for BCAA tabs or suck it up a drink that crap. Can't decide which is the lesser of two 'icks'!

Got in some good strength thought last night, and a bit this morning with a light cardio day.

I've been eating really well, except one lunch out with the kids (which I still kept within my calories) but the darn scale has moved up. I just swear at it and keep going though, because it doesn't make sense so I'll just ignore it until this 2 week challenge is over and I can assess the overall weeks.

I did the Day 3 last night and it was tough, I know I was dehydrated from the Sunday of being in the sun all day and then I forgot my water bottle at work so I was just filling my coffee cup a few times. Trying to get hydrated today, it's a rest day from SF but I am going to try and do couch to 5k.
How are you recovering, chuisle? You pic does look awesome-no costume?

    Thanks mamareese!

And Amy, no costume...I thought it would be hard enough without the extras of a costume. Also, I didn't have a big group doing it with me. Maybe next year we'll do some! I also didn't do knee pads, turns out they were really necessary (we didn't any any crawling).

I am recovering just fine. Still a little sore and bruised but I have some circuit training today and hopefully a little steady state bike cardio while I study for the GRE :)

Congrats on doing the Warrior Dash Chuisle! I learned about the dash a few weeks ago when they did our local dash so i have decided I am definitely participating next year. It looks like it was fun!

So Leangains and not packing any BCAAs or protein shakes was a bad combo. Ended up eating at 730am this morning. No big loss aside from ending my streak. LoL. But back at it today now that I'll be home. Calories have been consistently @ 1500 without a problem either way, so should be fine. Or so my optimistic self says!

    Bodyrocked today and strength tomorrow.

    Good luck all!!

Yesterday was day off from SF but I did week 6 day 2 of C25K and that went ok, the last 10 minutes were a bit of a struggle! Today is my reward so I don't know if I will be able to workout after a massage!

You are doing so well! No shame in just taking the massage and sleeping. Are you going to wear a costume?

Actually went to the gym this morning! 5 am came aweful fast though... I just followed my boyfriends routine.. and I wish I could get him to use free weights!! He was so excited to show me how to use the machines and I didn't want to hurt his feelings by telling him he would get so much more out of it if he used free weights!! But today I did 22 minutes on the eliptical and then the weight machines.. Maybe I'll go again tomorrow or Saturday if I can make him go!! And he's making my breakfasts for me this week so I have that part of the challenge done too :)

Thanks! I feel like I do ok on working out or eating right but I can't seem to coordinate both, but I am making progress!
I don't think I'll wear a costume for warrior dash, the group that I am going with his my husband and his friends and they haven't mentioned it and I would feel silly if I was the only one in costume.
I did take the day off last night and I got a good night's sleep last night after I ate a 1000 calories for dinner, realized why-TOM. I will run tonight and do the supermans like day 2 of SF.

I went to the wellness fair they had in the lobby at work and they were testing body fat with one of those machines you hold in your hands in front of you. Not sure how it works but it said 19.5% which is down a lot from 23% I had with the calipers last year, but she admitted it wasn't all that accurate-possibly 5% off so I don't know, but it was kinda nice to fall in the "athletic" range! I like to tell myself it's probably not 5% off in either direction AND it's probably more accurate for lighter people.

Nice! the 19.5% sounds awesome! Maybe I can get my BF% checked as a guest at the gym I have a pass to? Since tomorrow is a 1/2 day of work I think I'll go as soon as I get out and get a work out in. Who do you ask when you get it done??

I'm getting really aggravated with myself and not having the motivation to do bodyrock. I really want to do it and I see people on the site with great results, I just wish I wouldn't get scrutinized by my parents/grandparents at home for doing it and I wish I had some of the equipment!! How do you guys get the motivation to work out at home??

I asked at the front desk if they had someone to measure body fat. Also, they say to do it before the workout, not after.
I think it's hard to workout-at home or anywhere, really! Do you not have a spot where you can have some privacy? I work out in the basement and my husband, if he is home, will just stay upstairs.
I don't know about equipment, you can modify most of the exercises. When I did 30 DS I just had the handweights. Hopefully you can carve out 30 minutes of alone time!

I would have 30 minutes, but I just get the disapproving look from my mom and grandmother and since I live with them I can't get away from it! I tell them I'm doing it to be healthy and they tell me I'm going to work too much or become anorexic (which wouldn't happen, I love food way too much!!). So that's one reason I find it hard!! I want them to understand, but I know they won't! It kills me

That's too bad they don't seem supportive! My sister is coming to visit for a week (starting Aug 10) and I don't want to spend precious time away from her and the nieces working out, but I need to stick with it for Warrior Dash so I will just have to say, I gotta run for 30 minutes and just do it. She likes to walk so maybe we can both go out and get a little exercise, we'll see.

They are, but if I do more than one type of work out it's as if I told them I was going to exercise 24/7! Strange strange family, haha.

That's exciting that your sister and nieces are coming! I don't think they'd mind you doing that for 30 minutes! Maybe you'll even get your sister to do it with you :)

Last night I did the super-mans and then I jogged to the place I was meeting friends for dinner. My jog called for 25 minutes of jogging but I only got about 20 and I was there, it turns out the place is only 2.5 miles away! Oh well. I don't know if I will work out tonight because I might go to the Rockies game.

The only time I can work out at home is when I'm alone (so basically, never. Haha). It's just me and my man at home, but when I try to work out in front of him at home he has a continual running commentary making fun of whoever is on the TV (esp. if it's Jillian Michaels.) and he is so distracting! I'm sorry your fam isn't more supportive of you! Maybe there is a bedroom or something you can shut the door and have some privacy?

I'll see if I can do it in my room, it's right next to the living room so they might wonder what the noise is  I did get to go to the gym though, so that was nice!

I asked them to check my body fat there and they had me stand on this machine and enter my height, and then grab these awkward handle things. I almost laughed at the result because I know it has to be way off!! It said my body fat was 14.8%! I'm thinking it's at LEAST 5% off if not more!! Has anyone tried one of those BF testers before??
  • amysj303
    amysj303 Posts: 5,086 Member
I think that is probably like the handheld device I used at the wellness fair. I had to squeeze the handles and hold it in front of me and try not to move. She entered my height and weight before I started.
I will have to have the calipers test again.
I am trying to motivate! I think my plan is run today, then Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday will be SF. Then my sister will get here Thursday and that will be my rest day and then I will take Friday off from work and can squeeze in a workout. I think I should be able to run or workout Saturday and Sunday and have Monday off.
Also, i need to make my crustless quiche tonight and pick up a couple of things for lunches.
I ordered door-to-organics and it comes Tuesday. I am excited, I think this will help me eat more fruits and veggies!

I use the handheld one...I don't what to tell you about accuracy because I wonder about mine too! I know that mine has an "athlete" setting and a "normal" setting based on how much you work out (I expect that almost all of us would fall under athlete). I got calipers done before that were much higher (lik 4-5%) which I'm not totally sure I believe either so I figure as long as its consistent that's good?

I didn't run yesterday, but I am prepared to do the next three days of SF. I made my quiche, but it is a little flat, I didn't have any egg whites.
