Seems I can only get the reply in here as it won't quote and respond from our convo :-(
Anyway here is the video of Dr. Harrison Pope is a Professor of Psychiatry and an expert on anabolic steroids where he gets asked some questions about them.

That's nice. Maybe you should post it somewhere it's on topic, or start a new thread about it.

Sorry it's in reply to codergal from original thread. For some reason it would not let me quote her to show the message to her.0 -

Sorry when I want your opinion I will ask for it sugar.
NO! Sugar is teh evil!!!!0 -
I am a German girl too and when I do heavy weights I tend to bulk too, I use more cardio for that very reason. I want to be thin and toned. I don't like the look of crossfit bodies, but, to each their own. NO hate going toward the ones who do like it it's just not my personal preference for me. I think our back grounds do lend to being more muscular body types. I will never be waifish and that is just fine with me
Did you not read any of the thread?0 -
See, when I think about women "bulking up", I think of
So, yeah, if you consider having visible muscle definition like Jillian Michael's or Jessica Biel to be gross or manly, then yeah weightlifting probably isn't for you. But that doesn't mean that saying women won't turn into Arnold just from incorporating heavy lifting twice a week is a lie.0 -
Just for some perspective an average male can add just over a pound of muscle per month.
With the caveat that he can do this only for a short period of time, and only if he works his freakin' *kitten* of and maintains near-optimum nutrition.0 -
Love all of those GIFs.
^^^^
yep0 -
Anyway seeing as you want women I shall provide you with my two faves
Jamie Eason -
Andreia Brazier -
Btw I find women like this highly attractive, Any lady who looks after her body and conditions it like the above is just amazing in my eyes.0 -
Dude what.0

In looking at these pics, what jumps out at me is that the one's who look "manly" are generally the ones approaching male-like body fat percentages.0

Exactly. It is an average though so I am sure someone will come on here and tell a story of so-and-so packing on 25lbs in the first year. Some young buck in his first year of training could do that but it is not typical or sustainable.
On the topic of this thread a lady could add a couple pounds of muscle in the first few months while eating in a surplus but it will quickly tapper off and if she sticks with it will quickly realize that additional muscle gains will be very slow. In a calorie deficit, impossible to add any visible or measurable size gain.0 -

Would like to know as well0 -
To note -
Jamie Eason has 12% body fat
Andreia Brazier is probably close to that as well.
Examples of how a person's body fat % makes a really big difference in muscle definition. these women didn't gain a bunch of muscle, they got their body fat % low
(not saying they didn't gain ANY muscle, just trying to explain the difference between putting on a bunch of muscle and losing the body fat to show the muscle you have).0 -

Yep, me too because last I checked muscle definition, or lack thereof, isn't what makes a woman a woman or a woman feminine. So please...continue. Fascinated to hear what guidelines there are to being a woman and feminine.0 -

Personally, I like these ladies. I also have no desire to be that lean. But good for them. (I do advocate weights for everyone)
Keep in mind, we don't all want to look the same way. For some women, they are entirely too "defined" and "toned." Especially for those who want a softer look. They might be more into Jessica Alba or Beyonce instead of fitness models, or even Jessica Biel.0 -

I am particularly curious at what point does a body fat % attain a gender?
Apparently body fat that is low is male, and when it gets higher it turns female?
Now THAT is science!0 -

And people understand that not everyone wants to have body fat that low. The issue is when someone comes in and says they do the 30 Day Shred with 5# dumbbells and got huge.

Or that they are scared they are accidentally going to get huge, especially because they put on muscle so easily :noway:0 -

And that's fine (More open squat racks for MEEEEEE) until they show up claiming the did power pump/body pump/30ds/spent some time in the pool/turned the resistance up on the elliptical and got huge bulky muscles, while also stating that women with low BF% are manly/masculine/whatever else.0 -
Can anybody more knowledgeable than I explain why pictures of Jamie Eason and the other lovely lady are not evidence of "bulking" in a calorie deficit?0

Bulking and cutting cycles0 -

Because they haven't gotten any larger, and thus aren't more bulky? After a cut cycle to bring themselves to lower bf% they would in fact be...smaller (less bulky) than when they started at a higher bf%0 -

They did not get the muscle while in a deficit. They gained muscle while in a surplus then cut to lose body fat while maintaining their new muscle. Likely many cycles of this.
Same as what everyone has to do to get bigger.0
