:flowerforyou: buzz, I see your picture. Nice. I just may have to visit there.

:flowerforyou: Sandy, I don't play golf so I don't understand this one either. Please someone.....What is a 4 Putt??? Love your old people jokes. I am sharing them at work.

I anyone here having trouble receiving messages? I have a friend who I communicate often with. She is still receiving my messages but I am not getting hers.

I don't play golf but my dad did. After you tee off, meaning hitting the ball as close to the green where the hole is, you then use another golf club which if you made it to the green on the first shot would be a putter. (the name of the club) They usually allow 2 or three tries to get the ball into the hole. If it is two and you take four shots that would be a 4 putt which is very frustrating to golfers and that is why Jake understood my joke, even better than I did. Hope this clears things up. And if I am wrong on my explanation hopefully Jake will clear it up. Gigi plays golf, but she hasn't been here for a while.

Off to the new casino....will let you know how I did later.

Sailed over to Toronto on Friday and we had great winds. Only had to
put motor on once because a freighter was coming so we had to
get out its way. He was bigger than us !!

Fins to the left, fins to the right. Lots of parrot heads and grass skirts,
and coconuts. Jimmy Buffet concert was awesome. :drinker:
It was really hot! This week will be in the high 80's and some days
in the 90's. Thanks goodness for A/C.

This week staying home and trying to keep my flowers from dying.
They need lots of water. Rain predicted today, yayy!

Still trying to not eat between meals, and choosing mostly veges and fruit
and a little bit of meat and/or fish. It was a challenge on the weekend,
when I weighed this morning I stayed the same.

What is a 4 putt? My guess is it took four strokes to get in the hole
on the putting green. I used to play golf then boating became our
next adventure. I will have to see if I am right. Or I could ask my husband.

Casinos - We have one just five minutes from my house and I never go.
We also have one in Niagara Falls, On. Our area is big on
    casinos and slots.

Have great week and stay cool everyone.

  • It is supposed to get up to 85 today. Makes me thankful for air conditioners and fans. Today is chemo day and an appointment with the doctor for an "evaluation" to see if it's doing me any good. I'm hoping for the best, ready to accept whatever the reality is. It's all in God's hands. Grace happens. Thank you all for your prayers and concern. I'll let you know how it comes out.

:flowerforyou: viliberty1957, I will add you to our prayer wall here at work.

I think that the "zipper" one is everyone's favorite because we have all done that.

:flowerforyou: Shirley, if you do happen to eat between meals make it raw veggies or fresh fruit.

As to 4 putt.....I have forgotten the joke !! Old age is getting to me.

I am eating fruit and almond butter for lunch. I packed snacks but forgot my lunch. (This must go alone with previous sentence).

Just a quick checkin, that checkbook/bill stuff I swore I wouldn't get behind on is behind again

Irene, you are in my prayers! Your attitude is just amazing!

DRAT :explode: just lost my whole post

We've been back from vacation for a week. Had a great time and didn't gain any weight  Last week, however; was a disaster :blushing: I was eating anything and everything I could lay my hands on :blushing: only exercised 2 days, and didn't record much, and ended up getting sick :embarassed: I obviously need MFP and my friends here. So once again I'm back on the wagon.

MN has served up yet another season, 'summer' with 90+ degree temps & 100%+ humidity. My glasses fog over when I step outside. I was out in the garden for an hour and a half, just trying to spruce things up since it literally exploded into bloom while we were gone. Nothing strenuous, just deadheading some daylilies, plucking a few weeds, & 're-routing' the honeysuckles on the pergola. I was totally soaked when I came in! What I should have done, was get in the pond and deadhead in there  Those of you that live in this most of the time, my hats off to you :drinker: Texas, I wish I could send you some of the rain we've gotten. Minnesotans are a funny lot, we whine when it's cold and we whine when it's hot  I would much rather be outside than in here doing the checkbook

Good Grief :noway: I forgot the biggest news. Our granddaughter Lauren Rebekah arrived late Friday afternoon  a beautiful 7 pounds 5 ounces. DDIL worked her full shift at the hospital (RN) and then a friend took her to the hospital where the babies are delivered, just to be checked out. Her water broke and 46 minutes later Miss Lauren entered the world

Will try to get caught up on posts when the financial stuff is caught up:cry:

    Hello Lovely ladies,(and Jake)

   Thank you for the jokes. It has been great to read all these fun posts.:drinker:

I have had a very busy few days again. My daughters birthday was lovely. The birthday barbeque on Saturday was fun. It rained most of the day, so we had to stay indoors for the most part. We were prepared though. The men decided to cook on the barby anyway under umbrella's. It was a lovely day/evening and everyone seemed to have a good time. We had a marvelous contraption that poured pimms out of a tap instead of keep making jugs:happy:
I had 2 of my grandaughters stay the night, so was up very early the following morning. Oh my goodness:frown: The aftermath of entertaining a large crowd indoors and outdoors. It took us all morning to clear up. Then we had visitors in the afternoon/evening. I loved itall though. You can't beat a family and good friend gathering:bigsmile:

I just want you all to know, that even when I have'nt been able post. I think about you all the time. I am with Barbie on this, something will happen and I think I must tell my ladies about this. Then when I do manage to get on here, I have forgotten what they were!
Well, I have tried to read all the posts. There are so many but they all made me smile:smile:

Irene: Good luck with your appointment. :flowerforyou: I love to read your postings. They are always so cheerful and make me smile. I love the water pistol trick too. I think I will try that one.

Jeri: I'm sorry that your news was'nt an all clear, but it sounds very positive. You also are amazing.:flowerforyou: Good luck with your surgery. When is it scheduled for? The calgary stampede sounds like a fun time.

Barbie and Jake: At last... You are finally on the move. How long do you think before you move in? Barbie I would love to see you dancing in the park:laugh:

Sandy: How was your Itasco Fest? Sounds like good fun. Did you play Bingo? I have'nt heard you mention Bingo in along time. Don't you play anymore? Casino sounds good too. We have one about 20 mins drive away. I am a member, but I have only been a few times. I think I would get addicted! Your jokes are so funny. They had me laughing out loud.

Buzz: Did you get to find out what a 4 putt is? I love your new photo. What a good looking bunch you all are.:drinker: The weather sounds lovely there and we all need a good dose of vitamin D:smile: Be careful though. Hope your storm has passed. I witnessed the thunder and lightening when we visited Florida a few years ago. You are so right. I had never seen lightening like that before and never since. Amazing!

Becky: It's no fun not having a car. I sometimes lend mine to my daughter. I feel very fidgety wanting to go out. It's all in my head of course, just cos I know I can't. Not easily, anyhow:flowerforyou: I have bought a calorie book today for quick guidance. Thank you for the suggestion.

Jackie: It's lovely to have you back. Missed your garden stories. The hen photos are great. Sad about the bees. What happens now? Do you have any more garden animals? I picture you in your wellies tending to all your creatures and flowers. You are a proper dr doolittle.

Marie: I have'nt really tried beans other than baked. I might try some with your recipes. I never really knew what to do with them before. Also the thought of soaking them all day put me off, but I believe you buy them canned now. It sounds so hot where you are. Unimaginable to me as it never really reaches those temperatures here. Good job too cos we don't have a/c in our homes. We have a/c at work but it always makes my nose run and my eyes water!! Drink plenty and stay cool.:flowerforyou: It can't be doing your plants and veggies any good. Hows those melons coming along?

Shirley: I'm so envious. Your boating trips sound so lovely:smile:

Gayla: What are you up to now tennis has finished?

Judy: How are you doing? When do you go on your amazing holiday?

Conne: How was your birthday? Did you celebrate in any way?:drinker:

Phoebe, Donna, Phyllis,Birdie, Maddie and Gigi, Miss you all. Hurry back.

Sorry, I have gone on again. Was only going to say a quick hello:laugh:

Good evening Sneakers, hope everyone is well. I've had a day full of rain and more rain (sorry everyone in Texas!!) and am beginning to believe the St Swithens day myth. For anyone not knowing it because I do think it's English folklore, St Swithen was a Saxon Bishop and a legend says that as the Bishop lay on his deathbed, he asked to be buried out of doors, where he would be trodden on and rained on. For nine years, his wishes were followed, but then, the monks of Winchester attempted to remove his remains to a splendid shrine inside the cathedral on 15 July 971. According to legend there was a heavy rain storm either during the ceremony or on its anniversary.

This led to the old wives' tale (folklore) that if it rains on St Swithin's Day (July 15th), it will rain for the next 40 days in succession, and a fine 15th July will be followed by 40 days of fine weather. Well, it rained last Friday the 15th and has poured ever since so that could mean thirty seven days to go!!!!

Barbie ~ Your visit to the lavender farm sounds as if it was a wonderful experience, especially as your vet gave a talk on just how fascinating bees are. Until I kept bees I would never have believed what amazing creatures they are, especially their total commitment to the colony even if it means dying for it. I often watch mine sitting on the landing board wiggling their bottoms in the air and wonder what directions they are giving to their fellow workers! I can imagine your vet's honey must taste delicious having a lavender farm in which to gather stores.

Buzz ~ My cats are quite scared of the hens and tend to keep their distance. Some primevil instinct I imagine which doesn't allow friendship!

Irene ~ I'm thinking of you and giving up a little prayer for some good news.

Deb ~ Your image of me made me laugh but then I thought, yes, I do spend time in the garden in my wellies, especially in the current weather, checking on animals and insects. Last summer I had my neighbour's hens regularly breaking through into my garden to chase my smaller birds and from the other side a terrier puppy coming in to chase cats and hens before doing his business on my lawn and running back to his owner, who then praised him with "good boy" I soon set her straight on why he wasn't a good boy!! Anyway, when I called out one day "why do all these animals feel they have to come into my garden?" a neighbour called back "because you must be Dr Doolittle" so you got it in one Deb!!

Having watched the rain pour down all morning I decided to set to and decorate my bedroom since I bought pots of paint for the job 2 weeks ago but then hadn't got started. It seemed the right sort of day for it but I'm aching a bit from kneeling and stretching (all good exercise I know) so as I'm swimming early tomorrow will now go and relax before bed.

    Take care Sneakers:heart:

  • I'm back from the DR.
Cancer marker number went down 1600 points.   Thats GOOD. After seeing the Dr. I went back for my chemo treatment. Seems there is a nationwide shortage of what I was taking (doxil) and they didn't have any, :frown: :frown: so they had to switch me to a different one. It took quite awhile for that to get ordered, etc. With this new one I go for a treatment every week, but it doesn't take as long    . A lunch break, then an hour with the nutritionist. I was really ready to be home!!!!

Thank you all for being here for me. Love you all.

:flowerforyou: Jeri, I believe that all will go well for you also. You name is on our prayer wall.

:flowerforyou: Jackie, sorry about the next 30 days of rain that you will have to put up with. Have you checked to see how often this holds true? I think that would be interesting.

:flowerforyou: DEB...great to see you. You spoke of me having only one car...well, I would not like it if I only had one computer in this house. I have an old one that doesn't work the best and my youngest daughter uses it. Her sister graduated this year and we bought her a new one for college. And, I have my own. And, I love mine. At least...most of the time.

It is soooo hot here. I am dreaming of snow. Temps in the 90s with a heat index of 105. I have decided to not exercise tonight.

  • I'm happy to report that since I have been seeing a nurtritionist and following her advise I have been averaging one pound a week weight loss. She and the Doctor said I hadn't been losing because I was "underfeeding" my body. I'm now eating almost twice as much and losing. So it IS true what I've been reading here. You CAN eat too little and sabatoge your weight loss. Also my food is much more nutritious and healthy now. Just thought I'd share that!!!

Tomorrow I will spend some time in second hand stores to replenish my book supply. I buy a bunch at a time, as many as ten or twenty or more. At the price I pay, if I start a book and don't like it, I can just toss it. I especially like the whodunit type. I'm finishing up the last one have tonight EVIDENCE, by Jonathan Kellerman, so Ralph suggested we go shopping tomorrow. He takes good care of me!!!

Since we've been having more sunshine my tomao plants finally seem to be taking off a little. We only plant tomatoes and peppers. My daughter, Denise planted them in my raised beds and comes over to water them. About three months ago she moved into an apartment three blocks from me. Her daughter, Sylvia lives there with her but will soon have her own apartment in the same building. All this means, of course, that my little Mariah lives nearby. She starts kindergarten in the fall,l and will come to me after school until he Mom gets off work.

Which brings up more good news. Denise has been looking for a job for months. She was hired today for a one-person office. And the really good part it is only about five minutes or less from home. Her last job (worked there 3 years) was way out in the valley and took a lot of gas.

Sylvia works in a retirement home in South Hill which is a pretty long drive. We are hoping she will find something closer eventually.......but in these tough times: A JOB IS JOB!!! And we are happy she has one.

That's all my girls. None of my boys live nearby. One in Portland, two in Bethell, Alaska.

:flowerforyou: Irene, funny how we will stop losing weight when we don't eat enough. Good news is that you can eat more. Keep on losing...you are doing great.

:flowerforyou: Marie, glad that Walmart is now carrying the fabric again. What do you do with it? Do you sew clothes? Every year I look at the sewing machines at Walmart but I have yet to buy one. Not sure if I could find the time to use one.

I brought my lunch today. Can't believe that I forgot it yesterday. I should be eating better.

    Good morning Sneakers.

Irene you sound so cheerful this morning. So glad Ralph is taking good care of you., You do lots of reading. , I used too but eyes are too bad now to do much.
Glad Mariah will be closer to you.I know you and her are the best of buddies.

Becky, glad you took your lunch today. Snack foods just don't cut it very well.
I am still eating my banana Milk shake, beans and salad or veggies for lunch, and supper Plus a corn muffin.. Will make great northerns beans today and and season them up with veggies and italian herbs. have some fruit. I cooked 2 cans at a time and they last me for 2 1/2 days. Don't have to cooked as much.

You ask what I do with my fabric. I mostly just hoard it.Now. But I used to do A lot of crafting but not so anymore. I had a booth in a craft mall.I mad Jaackets, Decorate T-shirst and sweatshirts.and etc. babyquilts

Sandy how did you do at the casino yesterday? I know you enjoy it.

Phoebe That temperture was really hot. Lots of the country is blazing. now.

    Hello ladies;

IRENE, good to see you are doing well, been thinking of you. Yes eat good things in the right amount and your body will do much better.

Been working and sweating here, the heat is high with humidity, almost as bad as a windy snow storm, unbearable. Did a inventory of all the foods in the house, plus a nutrition value on each. Suprised to learn some of the favorite foods have been undoing my efforts. So I'm trying to balance things out, but it will be hard since I do not have a good variety of foods to work with at this time. Wild day Sunday at work, very upsetting for me, I was the sponge to squeeze for someone else's temper. Still am upset abit, did not get in any trouble from the boss as yet, and somehow I think the other person did get some discipline. My co workers did say they felt it was harrassment. Well I still have great respect and ampathy for my nurses.
I'm just hoping all goes well for the rest of my employment there.

I am very pleased to announce that the one and only flower I have is growing very well, this rose has four beautiful blooms on it. I am so pleased!!

Hope everyone is having a good run at their plans and reaching goals set. Keep it up, don't look back, your beautiful for every thing inside and out!

    Take care ladies...

    Happy Tuesday!!

I don't have time to address everyone but will try to get back later. I am playing cards with my friends again which we haven't done since last year.

Here is a hint: Never go to a casino on opening day!!! It opened at 11:00am and I did get there about that time, however the lines to get into the parking lot were unbelievable. I turned around and parked in a garage across the street which I think belonged to a hotel.
I got in the door and there was wall to wall people. I called my friend and found her at a Let it Ride table and luckily there was a seat next to her which was pure luck. We had other friends joining us around noon and after waiting for an hour in traffic to get in they were turned away at the door due to the casino being at capacity. There were waits up to 45 minutes for machines and I am told all the other tables were busy.
I never left the table I started on until I went home. (except for potty breaks) They had the table limits high at $15 for black jack and $10 for Let it Ride which they increased to $15 after a few hours of playing. I lost, won and lost but not much. I had a good time and when I left there were still hundreds of people waiting in line outside waiting to come in. I was lucky my car wasn't towed but hopefully by Thursday when I go back with my DIL things will be more normal otherwise we will go to a different casino.

    Have a great day!!

    Good Morning Ladies:

Congratulations to the new baby Lauren. :flowerforyou:

My doctor put me on a new blood pressure pill because they don't make mine anymore.
I am feeling tired and I don't know if it is the pill or the weather because it is so hot here.
My doctor appt. went well, my HDL was better but my LDL was not low enough for him.
I am still trying to lose weight so my next appointment will have better stats. My next
appt. is in October so I have time to get busy.

It is a constant battle with your health and trying to make the numbers.
Even when we go away for our boat trips I watch what I eat and try not to snack but i
still enjoy myself too without over indulging. It is hard work taking weight off and if you
indulge too much you sabotage yourself. The girls at work here say I am very disciplined
and they could never do what I do. Thanks to MFP and my pals.
This is not for vanity by any means it is for health only and looking good is just a bonus.

Thanks for listening to me today. Have a great day ladies and keep cool !!

Irene—what GREAT news!! In the scheme of things that number decrease is more exciting than a scale decrease!! Yayyy:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

    Jeri—prayers heading your way too!

Marie—are you cleaning the pantry to make room for more fabric? That would be my style  Do you ever do audio books? I really like to listen to them while I work out, it’s easier than trying to follow the lines on a page when exercising. If you’ve never done Harry Potter, the guy who reads them does a phenomenal job ! As a former children’s librarian I’m pretty fussy about how books are read aloud.:noway:

Irene—I’m glad the weight is starting to come off at a good rate:drinker: I know how hard it is to allow myself that extra food, but it does work! I miss those extra calories when I don’t work out. More nutritious food is a bonus too!:flowerforyou: Thanks for sharing! I’m glad to hear Denise found a job nearby; it’s not an easy thing to do these days! Good for her, I hope the benefits are good too. I know DH isn’t always excited about his job, but even he says, at least he has a job and it has great benefits.

Sandy—I’m glad you enjoy the casino, my mom and dad always did too & my 95 year old aunt STILL loves to go. I’m more of a “I need a shopping bag” or “UPS delivery” kind of girl when I let go of the money. I think mainly because I don’t understand how the machines work. Casino food is REALLY good though, another reason for me not to go.

Marilyn—hot and humid here too, my glasses fog up whenever I step outside. :glasses: Even something as simple as deadheading flowers drenches me with sweat! Went to water aerobics last night & was even sweating in the pool!:noway:

Shirley—we’re always here to listen & are riding in the same ‘boat’ with you. Those crazy ads on tv and radio drive me crazy because let’s face it, there is no easy fix or ‘magic’ for weight loss.

Ok, have to get back to that checkbook, for some reason Quicken is not putting the transactions I download into the registers. Slowing me down.
I have edamame and sweet corn cooling so I can make my healthy garden salad. Love that stuff! Took an ice cream pail of it along on vacation, thought I was a little nuts at the time, but our friends daughters love it too and we ended the week with about a half cup left! Would like to get out and putter in the garden a little this afternoon too, I really need to take some pictures now that it is really strutting its stuff!

I have fabric to make placemats and napkins for a wedding the first weekend in August, but finances first.

Went over to visit baby Lauren last night, loved stroking those little legs & tiny feet. What a miracle! :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

Thought I'd try to enter a recipe here for a Souvlaki Chicken I just copied:

    Skillet Chicken Souvlaki

YIELD: 4 servings (serving size: 1 cup chicken mixture, 1/4 cup sauce, 1 pita, and about 1/4 cup tomatoes) ...TOTAL:20 MINUTES
    Ingredients
    1 tablespoon olive oil, divided
1 pound skinless, boneless chicken breast, thinly sliced
    1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 1/2 cups vertically sliced onion (about 1 medium)
1 cup thinly sliced green bell pepper (about 1)
    2 teaspoons bottled minced garlic
    1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
    1/2 cup grated English cucumber
1/4 cup 2% Greek-style yogurt (such as Fage)
    1/4 cup reduced-fat sour cream
1 tablespoon chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley
    1/2 teaspoon grated lemon rind
    1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
    1/8 teaspoon salt
4 (6-inch) whole-wheat soft pitas, cut in half
    2 plum tomatoes, thinly sliced
    Preparation
    1. Heat 2 teaspoons oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Sprinkle chicken with 1/2 teaspoon salt and black pepper. Add chicken to pan; sauté 5 minutes or until done. Remove from pan.
    2. Add 1 teaspoon oil to pan. Add onion and bell pepper; sauté 3 minutes. Add chicken, garlic, and oregano; cook 30 seconds.
    3. Combine cucumber and next 6 ingredients (through 1/8 teaspoon salt). Serve chicken mixture with yogurt sauce, warmed pita, and tomato slices.

Salad: Combine 5 cups torn romaine lettuce, 1/3 cup sliced red onion, and 3 sliced pepperoncini peppers. Combine 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar, 2 tablespoons olive oil, and 1/4 teaspoon salt; toss with salad. Top with 1/4 cup crumbled feta cheese and 3 tablespoons halved kalamata olives.

Sorry about the Nutrition mess but I copied it to Notebook, which has a mind of its own! Sounds like a good summer recipe, and I think I must have some Greek blood somewhere in my family as I love Greek anyfood!

    Hello lovely ladies,

Jackie: I think I will call you 'doc' from now on. I loved your story, it did make me laugh. Not so much the st swithins though. I had forgotten it was st swithins and I go to Devon at the weekend for a few days. Lets hope it's proved wrong. It would be interesting though to see how it has gone in past years, like Becky suggested. I would'nt know where to start though. You had a very busy day but productive by the sounds of it.

Jeanne: Congratulations on baby Lauren.:drinker: I know exactly what you mean about stroking those tiny feet! My son and his partner are expecting their baby any day now. She had a sweep today, but so far no news. I am really hoping that it's not going to arrive while on holiday.

Jeri: Good luck tomorrow(or today, sorry I forget what time zone I am in!) Prayers are being sent for you. :flowerforyou: I will be thinking of you.

Irene: Such good news all round. Your cancer number going down, Denise in a good job, Mariah coming to you from kindergarten and to top it all your losing weight and eating more
We run a bring & buy book table for charity at my work. Customers bring their old books and others buy them for 50pence. Trouble is, I keep buying them and I now have a stack by my bedside table that I just don't seem to get the time to read them, or to stay awake. My colleagues laugh now, when new books are brought in and try to keep me away from them:laugh:

Marilyn: Are you ok? Sounds like you have had a very rough day and you are upset. I hope there is someone at work that can help you. You keep your chin up and don't let them get you down. (easy for me to say I know).:flowerforyou:

Marie: Sounds like you are very talented. I am hopeless with a needle. Are you and Jerry doing anything to celebrate your 55 years together:wink: Whatever you do I hope you both have a lovely time:flowerforyou:

Sandy: It sounds like a mad day at your casino. Glad you enjoyed it. Lets hope you have a good win on your next visit:drinker:

Becky: I wish I had my own computer too. It drives me mad sometimes that I can't get on. I am on here late tonight cos dh using it all night. Will have to see about getting my daughters fixed.:frown:

Buzz: So sorry to hear you lost someone today. Hope the funeral goes as well as can be:flowerforyou: I love going to greek restaurants. They always seem to be buzzing. I went to one for my hen night many moons ago. It was great:drinker:

Shirley: You are doing great. Keep it up. It must be very hard while boating. Your colleagues are right.:flowerforyou:

Well I have'nt much to report today. I was at work today, came home, cooked dinner, dropped Georgia at dancing, picked Hayley up from station, then picked Georgia up from dancing. Cleared up and then came on here Lol. So nothing exciting. I have to be in early tomorrow. We have the big guns coming to our branch and our manager wants to make a good impression. I am not looking forward to it. She is not a very nice lady and it will be a very stressful day.

Well, my bed is calling, nite nite:yawn:
