Jessica - I got my nails shellacked right before I found out I was preggo and have been addicted every since. I love the way they look and the fact that I'm not redoing my nails every 5-7 days. My nails do grow out and look crappy, so after 2 weeks of leaving the French polish showing, I just paint over them and the paint rarely chips and I wait that out a week and then have the old taken off and the new put back on. I don't know that it has damaged my nail too much when looking at them after taking it off but I am pretty sure I am hooked on it for a while so don't care too much.

Kristy - My heart rate gets in the mid 160 range when I run too, but I don't feel short of breath or dizzy either. Honestly I feel like I could probably run for longer than 10 minutes (granted there are no hills....I huff and puff up hills so walk them) but I feel I should give myself a chance to lower my heart rate. I think my heart rate is a little on the high side as I think it typically is in the 70's-80's when I first put my HRM on. I know that typically out of shape people have higher resting heart rates but also think our resting heart rates are higher while pregnant? Anyways my heart rate does recover very quickly which I have is a sign of "being fit". I do know I am running much slower than I previously would and am completing much easier runs than before. I was the type of person that would push myself very hard to the point of exhaustion, so backing off has been tough on me but I think I have reached a good level. I have a run planned tonight so maybe I'll pay closer attention to my heart rate just to see.

I've got a ton of work to get done today as I'm taking the remainder of the day off work tomorrow after my appointment to go look at a few more day cares. Good news is the one we like so far decided to hire another teacher for the infant room so we are officially in! So if the rest of them suck, we are set with one we like. One we are looking at is literally next door to my husband's office so that would be ideal. I'm jealous he could just pop in at any time but also comforted by it.

Better Balance and Heather - thank you for the insight to the shellac. my cousins girlfriend has it and i am seriously thinking about going for it because my nails chip so darn much! even with these pre natals (what gives! )

belly laughs is next on my 'to read' list...and i am so looking forward to it! have heard nothing but good things and that its absolutely hysterical!!!

question to all...has anyone had shellac done before? its a manicure that uses UV light. i was just wondering if anyone has done this...feels/thinks it is safe to do during pregnancy?? i have read a bunch online that says there is no harm in getting it done...but wanted to put it out to the group!

I love the shellac. It doesn't chip and looks great, but like the other ladies said, if your nails are growing fast (which they probably are with the vitamins and everything) then they do start to look bad after about a week.
  • Well ... I have overdone it.... last night I was having more pressure and Braxton Hicks than normal, back pain, well the usual 3rd trimester misery and couldn t sleep getting up every 45 minutes to pee!!!.

Just to make sure I called the hospital in the morning; I thought it was just round ligaments playing tricks on me and BH contractions. They asked me to come in for exams. Cervix is still closed but shortened because one of the babies is fed up with so little space and started going down, very much so.

They put me on cortisone to speed up the babies lungs development, and drugs to stop contractions; I have another round of exams and cortisone jab tomorrow. Then more controls next week. No more exercise for me in the meantime (doc said I did too much - hum never thought 30 mins of moderate exercise would be too much for someone who exercises regularly) and only move when I really have to for the next few days. Still a bit early for the babies to come, week 31 starts tomorrow.

It came as a bit of a shock because I was feeling great except for the usual little incomforts of later pregnancy

I'd say trust your instincts and never hesitate to call the hospital if in doubt.....

Take care everyone of yourselves and your LOs

So decided update you ladies on what seems like a week from hell!! FIL in the hospital has been stressful.
After the sono, this Tuesday, I recieved a call from my midwife the next day stating that it looked like I had a 2 vessel cord instead of a 3 vessel cord. She also said that there were two possible cysts on babies head. I LOST it completely. Not knowing what this meant or just freaking out at the what if's. Genetic disorders, etc. could be some possibilities. I was terribly scared.
I was able to see a specialist this morning and had a higher resolution U/S and he confirmed there are indeed 3 vessels in the cord and labeled them for us. He also confirmed the cysts on his little head but said this is of no concern and that about 1% of babies get them and they usually go away by either the third tri or by the next sono. I'm relieved to say the least, I'm ecstatic, I'm overwhelmed with being so blessed to have a healthy baby boy. I will keep all of you updated.
Dallas Rogers is due Feb. 5th!!! (can't wait to meet him)

BelgianLady - Sorry things are not going so great, but take care of yourself, hope things get better very soon!!!

Emrogers - So glad it's nothing major. Sounds like a lot of stress for you lately, hope things smooth out for you. Good Luck!

Ashley - That would be AWESOME, if he could just pop in anytime. Daycares scare me, haven't always had the best experiences, but some have been GREAT!!!! Thankfully my mom will be watching my baby and my son in the summer. YAY! Good Luck at your appt!!!
As far as your question. I used to work out at a gym, considering it again, but have to wait till things slow down a little bit. I work out at home, have tons of work out videos, and the PS3 Active 2 which I love. Yoga, and outside walks for now, but will start doing them inside on the treadmil once the weather gets too cold.

Heather - It does make for nice company and a lot to talk about with my husband working away. Sucks at times but we are used to it so it works out!! Makes me feel bad for my son though, his Dad is EVERYTHING to him and it's disapointing that he has to miss out on things, but we video record A LOT!!!!

Welcome to the new people joining!!!

Rayna - YAY for you!!!! Little boys are great!!!! I just had a feeling you were having a boy for some reason!!!

Now that the last two updates on anatomy scans were BOYS, I'm hoping to update you with the news of a baby GIRL after tomorrow. Can't wait for my appt.

This week has been so busy and super crazy, I seriously don't remember Monday! Today is another crazy day, work is NUTS, football pics, short wrestling practice, and then a football game tonight! Short work day tomorrow though, then U/S!!!! Glad this week is coming to an end. One more crazy week for us next week then things will slow down a tiny bit!!!

    Have a great day everyone!

    hi everyone-
ok i ended up going to the dentist. i chipped one of my upper left tooth in the middle and was very hard to eat. the tooth was hanging from the gum. However, the dentist needed clearance from my OB before he could do any work...so i have a huge filling and will have to do a crown at the end of October. I will be in my 2nd tri by then. For now, I cant eat hard or crunchy stuffs on my left side or else i can break the filling.

Darn, didnt get my exercise in yesterday, in fact sunday was the last i exercised doing my 5k. I hope the rain stops by the time P.E. starts so I can at least jump rope and run laps with the kids and burn some calories.

emrogers-glad nothing is major with baby. whew---

Two people at work said now I have a little tummy. And now I'm showing a little. I will only be 12 wks and I was hoping to not show yet until 2nd tri. Does it mean I really look big or is it because I had a tummy to begin with before being pregnant and being pregnant makes me look even more bigger....AHHH! When I went to the DR on Monday, he said I'm measuring 13, when I'm 11.
  • Hey Everyone

Rayna- Thanks! I hope when it comes time for an ultrasound for myself I also have as positive experience as you had! Hoping you can get a copy of the pictures that work!

Babeed- Glad to hear even with the weight loss baby looks healthy! I'm down 3 pounds but only at 5 weeks along so not too worried about it. I've been trying to really up my water intake which may be some of the reason for my drop. My first prenatal is the 24th of October not as exciting as an ultrasound but still very excited :)

HeatherC- Thanks for the welcome. I did read the intro and I'm definitely striving for a fit pregnancy. My job can be quite demanding and I would probably crash and burn very quickly if I cut my physical activity out. Glad you were able to great a great night sleep.

Ashley- Thanks for the welcome. I'm glad I was able to follow you over here quickly ;)

Holly- Thanks! You do look fabulous great job!

atomdraco- Hope the head cold dissapates soon and the ultrasound goes well!

Well I managed a 5km jog today and was pretty happy. The pressure in my lower abdomen and bloating has seemed to easy up a little bit. Didn't over eat my calories the last few days which I'm pleased about although I would like to have a few less carbs and a few more veggies. I'm home from work for a few days so eating veggies should be easier. Hope everyone is feeling great!

Quick update for me, I've been taking my walks for about 30-60 minutes each day. Having a blast doing that and it feels good to be doing something. Also starting to 'nest' and get the house ready for the baby. Hubby still has a week of leave left so that helps a lot! Had my 16 week appointment. Baby is doing great, measuring where s/he needs to be with a heart rate of 148. Doc also told me I'm not gaining enough weight. I'm 16 weeks and have only gained about 2.5 lbs so far (1.5 from the first trimester). It's also noticeable that I've lost weight in my upper body/face. She told me she wants me to stop counting calories, just to eat balanced and eat until I'm full. I'm supposed to be gaining about a pound a week now until the baby is born. Both her and my husband agreed that I am now banned from tracking what I eat.

edit: also fairly certain I passed my 3 hour glucose test. It's been over a week (10 days) and I have yet to hear anything about it. When I failed the 1 hour I heard about it in 3 days.

Checking in, just finished my 20 min walk & 20 min PYoga by LBrin.

Heather & Holly- thanks for the suggestions, I will incorporate them and eat better meals.

Batgirlrox-Welcome. That's awesome that you're continuing with your jogs.

MidniteDD-Great job on your walks, I am waiting on the weather to lower so i can add walks on my treadmill (it's outside). I also haven't gained weight and I'm on my 18 weeks, and I haven't had my glucose test yet.

SvGarcia- Ouch on the chipped tooth, I had one earlier this year and yes i have a fake one now. :ohwell:

Misti: Best wishes, can't wait to hear your good news.

Elce-Keep up the good hopes, glad your baby is ok.

Belgian Lady- Keeping you in my thoughts for everything to get better.

    Yay for Friday tomorrow.

Elce, Sorry to hear you had such a scare, but I’m happy to hear that everything is going to be fine.

Svgarcia, so sorry to hear about your tooth, that sounds painful.

Midnitedaydream, Don’t worry too much about how much weight you’re gaining or how many calories you’re eating, just eat healthy balanced diet and I’m sure you’re body will gain the appropriate amount because of it.

So I did something silly today (blame it on the forgetfulness pregnancy brings on) I packed my gym bag and had it placed beside the front door, but was running late and completely forgot to grab it on my way out! I felt like I was forgetting something but didn’t figure out what till I was at work. So now I miss out on today’s Zumba class:grumble: . I need to stop off at home and go to the other gym tonight to make up for it (my gym has several gyms around the city so I often alternate between the one near my house and the one near my work).

Happy Friday ladies!!! So excited for the weekend! It's supposed to be in the 60's here this weekend so running outside should be much easier! :) I didn't work out yesterday and I feel kinda bad about it, but I'm going to the gym today so that'll make 3 work out days for this week, which is still within my goals, AND I still plan on running this weekend. I DID slack from the eating healthy goal last night though. We had Red Robin for dinner...oops!! It was so good though. lol Had to have my splurge for the week. We're having chicken breast tonight though so we're back at it. :)

Speaking of chicken breast, I'm cooking it in the crockpot as soon as I get home from work (1pm). Heather, how do you cook yours? You said with white cooking wine and an Italian seasoning packet? I'm using boneless, skinless chicken breast.

I'm 15 weeks today. Seems like the weeks just keep flying by. A little over a week till our 16 week u/s. Can't wait to see how much the baby has grown since our 9 week u/s. :)

Thanks for the responses regarding heartrate. I don't feel too bad now that it's in the 160's at times. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm definitely breathing kind of hard, but it's controlled breathing. I'm not huffing and puffing short breaths. I'm taking long, deep breaths.

Hope everyone has a WONDEFUL Friday!

Midnite _ I'm right there with you. I've lost 3 lbs within a week and although the baby is fine- I have been restricted from working out and was asked to just EAT. Mind you, I have a very healthy appetite....but it just doesn't seem to stay on!! Are you/Have you changed any of your eating habits??

I'm currentlyon the phone with my doctor to see what happens next....

Has anyone had this before? Suggestions? Advice? Anything?? I was speechless when he called me yesterday and told me! I'm fully aware that this is one of those things that "just" happens...I just never thought it would happen to me!??

I'm not sure how I still feel about this...I'm at a bit of a loss...Meanhwhile, hubby wants to do a complete overhaul on my eating!!
UGHHH! I just feel very overwhelmed at the moment.

babeed - sorry to hear that. Not sure if this help, but I usually find that if I know more about it, I feel more ease about how to handle things. Try this article (or google more) from WebMD, "Pregnancy and Gestational Diabetes":

    http://diabetes.webmd.com/guide/gestational_diabetes

I'm sure your doctor know how to help you. But usually they don't have time to tell you everything about it. So try to get some info online first.

babeed - I'm so sorry to hear this, I don't know too much about it myself but a very close friend of mine had this when she was pregnant and she just changed her eating and monitored it very closely and had to take injections, everything turned out fine. I'm sure with the support of your Doctor and your husband you will be just fine - keep your chin up and stay positive! You can do it! I know it must be so overwhelming right now but I'm sure once the initial shock has worn off you will be able to cope and refocus. Thinking positive thoughts for you!! :flowerforyou:

Happy Friday all my pregnant lady friends! I am so happy it is the weekend!
My husband and I have our prenatal classes this weekend at the hospital where I will be delivering - I've heard mixed reviews about their class (that the materials and videos are really old - like from the 80s) and the class is both Sat & Sun 9-4.
My friend told me they show quite a few old 80s videos of women actually giving birth (which is fine by me) but my husband isn't so thrilled lol...he really doesn't want to have to see it  poor guy
Anyways, I'm just going in with an open mind and hoping for the best - at least we won that weekend intensive prenatal class from Healthy Birth Choices and I know it will be really good.

I'm super tired today but trying to get focused and actually get some work accomplished today - I have a lot on my plate at work right now but staying focused for long periods of time is not one of my strong suits right now lol

I had my 90 min Iyengar yoga class last night and we did a LOT of shoulder work - it was pretty tough but really good. Again being the only pregnant lady in there is sometimes weird but I feel good that I can still hold my own in there ;) I told my instructor that I'm not going to do any of the poses on my back (we do some where you have a bolster under your back which makes it arch and they lie there for a LONG time) so I'm not so comfortable doing those anymore so she showed me a different pose which I can do on my side - so it was all good.

I can't stop looking at my sweet little baby boy on this ultrasound picture - I can't get over how clear the picture is and how it looks like he's smiling  I'm so in love already and just really can't wait to meet this sweet little man!

I started knitting last night (wow I'm rusty!!) I want to make some things for him so I printed off some free patterns from Lion Brand's website - I'm going to make him a cute bunny blanket and some booties to start, going to Michael's at lunch to day to pick up the supplies! Super excited, I will post pics when I'm finished!

Hope everyone has an amazing Friday and fantastic weekend!

Rayna - poor husband of yours. :-) I spared my husband from watching anything like that. During my labor for our first child, he was there the whole time but keeping his eyes on me instead of anywhere else, which is perfectly fine with me.

One of my husband's co-worker told a story about during his wife's delivery. He watched the baby born the whole time, which didn't bother him too much. He was eating a sandwich at the time. After the baby was born, instead of look at the baby, he was curious what else the doctor was doing. SO, he watched the doctor delivered the placenta. He up chuck everything. That's what his advice to my husband after the baby is delivered: KEEP EYES ON THE BABY. :-)

    41fhm5.png
  • mistibergman - good luck for finding out the sex, hoping for a girl as you wish :-)

emrodgers- hang in there and happy for you for the reassuring news

Thanks for your kind words everyone, I went for my second shot today, it will be effective tonight. Last night I didnt sleep at all due to all night long contractions which the doctor said were caused by the shot, but should be over by tomorrow morning yay! In the meantime strict bed rest and for next week, very light activity allowed such as 30 mins walk.

The babies could arrive anytime between now and end of October, they will trigger at max 35 weeks. In any case they would be now premature not early premature which makes a huge difference especially with the jab to develop lungs. So excellent news, I'll have to switch from Fit, Fabulous, and Pregnant September to Lazy, Fabulous, and Pregnant October hahaha

Thanks Belgian Lady! Hoping for a girl of course, but most of all just a healthy baby. Also excited to get an accurate due date, I have 3 so far!

Rayna, I think my husband would be uncomfortable watching someone else, but he did watch the whole thing when I delivered my son. He said ya it's gross, but so exciting that you don't really think about it being gross. He cut the cord, and watch the doc deliver the placenta. He said that part was the grose part for sure! LOL! Your U/S pic, is great! It looks a lot like my sons did. Perfect profile! Hope I get a good one today!

Babeed - Sorry to hear about gestational diabetes, hope your able to control it just through diet. Good Luck! Sorry I'm no help on the subject, don't know a lot about it.

Didn't eat healthy last night, broke down and got some nachos from the concession stand at the football game, oh well, I have done super good for the last 7-8 weeks so I don't feel bad. They were so good!!! I try really hard to watch my sodium because of swelling, but I'm not swollen so far today, so YAY!

I also weighed myself again and lost a couple pounds, so weird!!!! I'm at a total of 9lbs, which I'm assuming is good for almost 22weeks....hope so anyway.

Question: Anyone else around 21 -22 weeks feel the baby really really low, crotch area??? Weird question, I remember feeling this with my son but I was at least 7.5 -8 months along. Been feeling it super low a lot lately. Just wish the baby would move up already!!!!

Anyway, today is U/S day, I will try to update everyone ASAP.

    Have a great weekend!!!!
  • @ Belgian lady, stay in there babies!!!

I was planning a work out yesterday, but felt just icky and crampy yesterday so I didnt. Hoping to get a run in tomorrow and Sunday!
Hope everyone has a great weekend! Nothing too exciting happening with me.

Exciting baby news, Atomdraco! I'm hoping for a girl, too but will have to wait for several more weeks to find out.

Re: heart rate during pregnancy, I've seen the recs about staying under 140 etc. and that they're outdated, but I have noticed that I feel much more intensity than my HRM shows, so that when I'm at 140, it's pretty intense, so I have been keeping it lower just because I feel better. My heart rate monitor seems to be a less accurate gauge of the intensity for me these days, anyone else found that to be the case?

In happy news, I passed my dissertation proposal defense today, so I get to move forward with my project and also apply for clinical internships for next year. The applications are due in about a month, so now I will be shifting gears to focus on that. It's kind of nice to have so much work distraction, as it is so hard not to think about the baby ALL THE TIME.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

Thank you to everyone for the encouraging words!! Sometimes its not about knowing, but acknowledging and just being there for support. I appreciate that so much from you ladies.

Hubby picked me up for a surprise lunch and we had a nice picnic with our dog and was able to get a little play time in with her at the local dog park. Beautiful 73 degrees here today and the sun is shining. Definitely lifted my spirits and helped calm my nerves.
Doc said he wants to meet again on Tuesday and we'll be trained on how to take daily reads :ohwell: we'll do this for a while and keep a closer eye on the baby. All will be well and we'll work through the challenges ahead.

Atomdraco- congrats on the baby girl!! Time to buy some cute frilly girlie outfits!!

I'm excited to join! My name is Karen, I'm 25, married for almost a year & 1/2, we've been together almost 7. As of today I'm 5 weeks along :) Since May of this year, I'm down 27 lbs (and am smaller than I was in HIGH SCHOOL!) I hope to continue with a healthy pregnancy and lose some more after I deliver. My EDD according to my OB is May 31, 2012, but according to my long cycles, I feel like it's more likely to be early June. We'll see :)

so excited to meet you all!

Atomdraco: Congrats for a lill girl. I have hopes for a little girl too.

    Welcome Karen!

Babeed: Best wishes, I read up on it after your post and there is some hope for both of you to get your blood levels normal after delivery, so I am hopefull for you both. Take care!

MadBabysmama-Great job, on your projects. I am here with you about thinking about Baby all the time. lol

Ugh i ve been sleeping and waking up with headaches. I think it's due to getting up so many times in the night to potty & then having to get up early & take Jason to the school bus. I plan on walking some more tonight, and doing a S/T session of LBrins DVD.

Ok, so seeing everyone else have early U/S, makes me be :explode: at my doc for making me wait until I am 22 weeks. Then i think after my next appt how bad will it kill me to wait another 5 weeks? It will! :brokenheart:

On another note our fridge gave out and (non budgeted) we had to buy a new fridge so needless to say, that pushes our baby budget down.
