EEG, I am aware of your opinion of the fast food industry and I share pretty much all of your attitudes. However, I find this jokey sort of yum-yum posting insensitive on a forum where many members are in the fight of their lives. No one ever forced anyone to eat anything, I know, but maybe we can help rather than hinder.
Perhaps we should ban all fast food from advertising as well, so that nobody might be tempted to eat it.

Also, perhaps MFP should have a policy in the forum, prohibiting anyone from saying that anything but broccoli is tasty.

    That's not a deal. Wendys 99 cent menu, that's a deal!
Just stay away from the ultimate bacon cheese burger..... I had one and gained 3 lbs from one burger. I kid you not!
I would wager that it had more to do with the food weight in your body, as well as your overall caloric intake for the week.
  • hehehehe my co-worker order this and she ask if I was interested. My answer was noooooooooo thanks!!

You use hyperbole. I suggest that there are more people on this forum who struggle with food choices than people who can guffaw at fast food meal deals, that's all.

I was hoping to make a point. Were would you draw the line? What foods can folks discuss? Do you honestly believe that someone might be derailed because some members express their fondness for fast food, or have some fun discussing it?

Yes, from what I have read on these boards I do believe that people can be derailed by this sort of discussion. I would not have believed that before I started reading people's comments on here, but I have been persuaded to it.

I think we can draw the line wherever we like. This is a fitness forum, and the boundaries are set by the admins. If I don't like the haha eat-the-burger tone, I can say so, at the risk of being tagged a humourless broccoli tout, of course.

if someone would be derailed and binge because of this thread, then I dare say that they will be derailed by a TV ad too. Hence, my question about banning advertisements. Would hearing a co-worker say that they enjoyed a burger put them over the edge too? Should no one ever express that they like eating fast food? I would also venture to say anyone derailed by this thread has issues to address that go well beyond any comments made here.

None of the discussion has crossed any line laid out in the Community Guidelines, in my opinion. Folks are simply pointing out that one can indulge occasionally and still reach their fitness goals. There is is nothing in the guidelines prohibiting them from doing so, or opining otherwise.

    Ah hahaha. Hilarious, every one.

There are real people on here wrestling with real weight problems.

Then don't read the forum. There is such thing as a "back" button. :drinker:

    Now I'm hungry.
  • Hey, McDonald's is just proof of great marketing and some damn good french fries. Their Coke tastes better too. If people make the choice to eat 5 Big Macs instead of just one, then that's them and their choice.

Though, I highly doubt people will get derailed from their fitness goals from discussions like this. If that were true, some people on here would think HCG and Alli are great methods for weight loss. Oh, wait..nevermind.

I bought their other local deal for a cigar bar.
You can't eat a cigar, silly!

    Oh, wait...

I think there was an episode of "Obsessed" that detailed a woman who ate cigarettes. I'm not entirely sure, tho. Memory is foggy. Too many cheezburgers n friez.

If I had 4 friends hungry, I would do it! I'm a sucker for a Big Mac and their fries. I would however work out extra hard to enjoy such a lovely meal! Choices, my friends, choices!

    Hello Myfitnesspals!

Today Living Social posted a deal for 5 Big Macs and 5 Large Fries for $13! SMH and people wonder why the US is the fattest country! Just because you get more doesn't mean it's better. I better not see any of myfitnesspals buying that deal!

    Love ya!
    Lauren

I would buy that deal. In fact I just got done eating a huge bacon an cheese angus burger from MCDonalds, infact I eat fast food all the time. Oh and look at that little ticker thing down there 60 pounds lost.

No one has suggested that this thread has breached any forum rules.

I don't like the tone of this thread seeing as it comes under the nutrition heading. I believe that people can be derailed by jocular references to fast food. If they don't want to watch fast food ads, they can turn the telly off. This, however, is a fitness forum which, as I read, many have turned to as a last resort, so the jolly burger stuff *ahem* sticks in my craw.

I've actually never eaten a Big Mac. I'm a 27 year old American, surrounded by McD's my whole life. True Story. The special sauce always skeezed me out.

I much prefer the Happy Meal. Yay toys and orange drink!

Yes, it is a nutrition forum. The OP stated her opinion that she dislikes McDonald's and their deal. Others are stating their opinion about McDonald's. You may see the references as jocular, but it's their opinion. The point has been debated in countless threads. Lots of opinions about it.

A Big Mac has about 700 calories. I wouldn't eat 5 of them, but one is a nice lunch.
  • Glad I am vegetarian!!!!!
