The rudest thing anyone said to you about your weight?

Don't recall anyone very saying anything all that rude when I was heavier, but now that I've lost some weight a very close friend has taken to calling me anorexic! I am far from being that thin, I'm 5'2" and 129lbs. Sometimes I think she is just jealous, but really shouldn't a friend be happy for you? She claims it was the clothes that I was wearing, but she's made that comment on other occasions. Another insulting one is "When are you going to stop?"0

A customer said 'damn you fat' :noway:
Another customer once asked when my baby was due...
But now.. its all good!0 -
My ex dumped me because I'm fat. You can imagine how it could break one's confidence and self esteem. It was the most painful one for me.
Are you serious?? what an AssH**e!!!
Yup, But it kinda jump started my weightloss journey. I dropped nearly half the amount of weight I want to and I ran into him recently. His reaction?? His jaws hit the floor and he said "You look really pretty". He's been texting and I ignoring..lol.Revenge is the best dish served!
Too often we kill each other with too much kindness.
My Doctor just told me all the medications I needed or I could drop 50lbs and take no medication.
I acted like I didn't quite know what he meant, and he blurted out "you're too fat!"
We need more of this and less fat acceptance.
I agree that we need less fat acceptance. I wish I had owned 1) a bathroom scales 2) a tape measure and 3) a full length mirror the whole way through college and I wouldn't have put the weight on in the first place. I never realised I was putting on weight. It took me a while to realise I was overweight and by then I was getting the rude comments.
xx
i disagree- this all just shows if you are rude, mean and cruel enough to a person- they might change themselves to look more pleasant to you/who ever said it. How many of these posts are people going on just fine and even happy with their day and all of a sudden someone feels is appropriate to be mean to them/ hurt thier feelings because they do not like the way they look.
I don't call it fat acceptance. its called keep your personal opinions about a persons body to yourself.
I agree with the above post. It's not fair to be cruel and mean to overweight people just because they do not fit into society's expectations! It's ok to have opinion but if its not positive, it's better not to be shared! Come on, people could obese for several reasons from being lazy to fatal hormone conditions. It's not fair judge anyone without knowing their story.
I think there's two sides in this chain of quotes. One: Yes, we need to be considerate o other people's feelings, no matter the size. Don't say rude stuff. It's not "fat acceptance" it's common decency.
Two: Doctors need to not be afraid of telling someone when they need to lose weight. Doesn't mean they have to be rude (like some of the examples on this -- wow, it's no wonder people hate their doctors!!) but it is their job to point out health risks they see - that's why we go to checkups - and I think too many of them are afraid to. They also need to help set their patients up for success by understanding weight loss or knowing who to refer patients to (because a lot of doctors are a bit dumb when it comes to helping patients with weight issues!)0 -
Wow - that's horrible. I had a stranger tell me that I could go buy some lawn furniture in the store because it was sturdy enough to hold my size.0

"Are you pregnant again? Every time I see you, you look fatter and fatter."0

this Christmas one of my aunts noticed that I lost weight and was complementing me about it. She pointed out to my other aunt who snared and went, "Oh really? how much? 2lbs?". In reality it was closer to 30...
There was the time an overweight friend of mine told I didnt have to worry about creepy guys hitting on me because no guy would ever want to.
not a violent person in general, but some people just ask to be punch!0 -
About a month ago (baring in mind im trying to recover from an ED) , a guy that regularly comes in my shop and talks to me on this occasion came in, looked me up and down and goes "you've put it on havnt u". I said "aww cheers, im actually recovering from an eating disorder". It annoyed me sooo much, thats the sort of comment that could easily set me back again.0

That's no good! I'm glad you're on the road to recovery.0 -
I think the word fat in general has to be one of the most horrible words ever! It can be used in so many ways to hurt people, I've heard just about all of them!0
-
Aww, thank u0

Probably not as much when I was overweight, but when I first lost a lot of weight I had more than 1 person come up and say "Oh my dear you must be terribly ill, will you be ok?" LOL bless them....
Then a few weeks ago at a school concert where I was parent help one of the mum's came up to me and said "OMG where have you gone? You used to be HUGE now you're just normal" - ummm thanks?! LOL
People gotta love 'em....0 -
I've had quite a few over the years...and all have been from my husband's family.
1 ~ my FIL, "Kelly, I can't believe how big you are with this 2nd baby". I am short, short waisted, and delivered a 10lb 22 inch baby. When he came to the hospital to see us, he cried at how BIG the baby was. He himself was 11 lbs and 4 oz.
2 ~ my husbands out-of-state grandmother came to visit when our 1st son was about a year old. I had lost all my pregnancy weight, was a size 12 (the now 8). she says to me, "God, your *kitten* is huge" when I got up to leave the room. I was shocked and said, WHAT? she repeated it...and my grandmother heard her and gasped.
3 ~ my husbands great uncle saw me at a local circus that was in town. I went over to visit him and his wife and he said, "wow, you been eatin' pretty good now haven't ya...bout like them elephant's out there".0 -
I have never had any rude comments but all I have to say is if ignorance is bliss these people who said these things must be the happiest people on the face of the Earth.....how sad people are so rude.0
-
I've also been called hippo and elephant.....
As someone who has had a weight problem, you still think that? /boggle.
I would hope that someone who had been big would see that people are more than poundage, but I guess that was overly optimistic...
I was a WalMart, sitting on a bench waiting for my wife, and I just watch the fat people walk by one by one, lumbering along.
That was me 2 years ago.
I think I am still angry at myself for allowing it to happen.0 -
My mother told me if I got any bigger then a size 16 she would not make my clothes anymore and I would have to get a job to buy my own and fat people clothes are more expensive. I was 18 . I got and job and started starving myself.
When I was in my 20's and only gained a little weight back (I was a size 12) a guy I dated told me when we were breaking up I was really pretty and I could be a plus size model but to forget my dreams of straight modeling because I liked to eat too much and I was only eating one meal a day around that time. (it was all junk food)
People are mean ..sucks0 -
One time at Christmas I got down on the floor to play with my 2 year old nephew. My dad said "Get your fat *kitten* up off the floor." Everyone else laughed. I was nearly 30 years old at the time.0
-
Congratulations on your pregnancy!
I wasn't.
Been there! More than once. Way more than once...
Me too!!0 -
I went to a psychiatrist about some severe depression I was having, and I told her I wanted a weight neutral drug if she was going to prescribe one because a drug that made me gain weight would just depress me more. She told me, "Then go get bariatric surgery, and you won't be depressed anymore." Seriously? >.<
OMG!!! I hope you dumped her. I use Lamictal. It does NOT increase weight and works. I have tried everything and this has been a lifesaver.0 -
My downstair neighboor asked me if I was pregnant for a second time. I was so ashamed.0
-
I can only remember one comment....but it still kinda burns.
I was at a new years party about 5 or 6 years ago with my older ( and thinner ) sister, and I was introduced to someone as Allie's little sister, and the guy said "haha oh yah? Allie's LITTLE sister??" with such sarcasm to his tone I just wanted to run away...0 -
When I had lost about 35 pounds (and it was finally becoming noticeable), my husband mentioned in front of his mom that we would need to start shopping for new clothes. She commented that I shouldn't throw away all my old clothes -- I thought it was because she wanted me to donate them, but no. "You need to save them for when you gain all the weight back." Not *if*, but *when.* :ohwell:0

I went into a 5-7-9 years ago and the worker asked if she could help me find a pair of jeans. I said yes and then she asked me what size, I said a 9. She looked me up and down and said we'll see about that. I wasnt over weight at the time but it was still very rude!!0
-
Congratulations on your pregnancy!
I wasn't.
know how you feel, i was asked if i was haveing a boy or a girl.......i had a boy 3mths before! or the time i was walking around a hospital ward and a nurse told me i looked glamourous for somone in labour! my baby was a week old!!!!0 -
my daughter's best friend's mother who had not seen me for quite a while said, "Oh my gosh! You gained so much weight I didn't even recognize you!" That sure made me feel bad.0

I worked at a fine dining restaurant about ten years ago, and this very fit, muscular couple were there. I went to take their order, and the guy said to me loud enough for the restaurant to hear, "Hey 'Handles' - hurry up and get my wine for me." He then pointed at the side of my back and they both started to laugh. I was so floored at how completely rude he was I couldn't think of anything to say at the time.
About five years after that when I had lost a considerable amount of weight, I was shopping and went into a store which sold leather goods. I tried on this really cute leather jacket that was an XS and it was baggy on me. The woman working there said, "That jacket would look perfect on you if you just ate a sandwich." At that time, I could think of something to say, so I told her, "Your mouth would look perfect on you if you knew how to shut it at the most appropriate time."0 -
My husband said it to me. It was when I was 205lbs. We got into a huge fight because I told him I wanted to go to see this weight loss doctor a friend told me about. He wanted a new game and told me I should be able to lose with without a doctor. I told him that I could but it would be nice to have support offline and someone who can lead and guide me to a healthier life style. It turned into a huge fight because it cost $12.00 a week. No that's not bad, but his game costs $15.00 a month. So he sees that something I want taking away from something he wants. My husband has always been pretty selfish, and I never ask for anything so I wouldn't go back on this I really wanted it. Well in the heat of the moment while we were fighting he said to me "If you would just get your dumb fat *kitten* up and workout, you wouldn't be in this obese stage and you would have never gotten this fat. You did it to yourself, because you are such a lazy fat *kitten*." I did get him back, because it got pretty bad that evening our fight did, and he told me to get my things and get out, I told him "I'm not going anywhere, and I'd like to see you move my fat *kitten*." lol I can't do that anymore he can pick me up pretty easy now haha...
Well after I started going to the weight doctor, and my weight started melting off, I noticed his attention went from not interested in me to having sex every night. I finally straight up asked him about it, and he told me "I was ashamed of you and if you wouldn't have started losing weight we probably would not have lasted." Which made me very distance from him. That's when I finally grew some balls and said to him "You know that's bull ****! If you can't handle me at my worst, why the hell do you think you deserve me at my best?" He talked to his mom about it all, and she put him in his place. He knows that the comment he made there was stupid and if he loves me, he needs to love ME over weight, obese, whatever take me as I am or watch me as I walk out the door.0 -
I had gained 100 lbs. after a back injury and my ex and her then husband would always say stuff about my weight. One day he told me I was a fat disgusting loser. My response to that was maybe so but I can diet and that bald head of yours is never coming back. I also had a young girl yell at me that my fat *kitten* needed to lose some weight. the irony of the situation was that I'd already lost over 30 lbs. and was on my way back home after a nearly 15 mile mountain bike ride. People that say things like that are just unhappy with themselves so I try to not let it bother me.0

It was during a Thanksgiving dinner of '02 at my aunt's house. My grandfather (after having a few too many) made a comment to me about how I should have worn a belt with the outfit I was wearing, but then again I probably wouldn't be able to get the belt around me because I didn't have a waist & that is where belts are supposed to go.
I burst into tears & ran outside. My husband followed me & after preventing me from hyperventilating, drying my tears & convincing me that leaving would not fix anything. I agree to just stay away from my grandfather & we went back inside.
Apparently my mom had chewed out my grandfather while we were outside & the minute I walked back in the house, he came up to me. My husband stepped in between us & told my grandfather that now was NOT the time to try & talk to me, but my grandfather still tried to get to me. I stepped beside my husband, put my arm around him & told my grandfather to leave me alone.
My dad had not heard what my grandfather (his dad) has said to me, he just saw me run outside. So, on their way home, my mom filled him in on what had happened. The next day, my dad went out to my grandparent's ranch & laid into my grandfather about what had happened the previous day. While yelling at my grandfather, my dad explained to my grandfather why what he said was so wrong but none of his words affected my grandfather.
At Christmas that same year, we gave my grandparents a family picture (my husband me, our son & my daughter) & my grandfather made the comment that he recognized everyone in the picture but me. As everyone around him laughed, all he did was glare at me.
I should have taken this as a clue. When my grandfather died in March of '03 - he left everything to my grandmother, my mom & my dad. He gave my brother the house that my great-grandfather (his dad) had build in Carmel & left nothing for me. This was the payback I go for my mom & dad yelling at him over Thanksgiving.0 -

Lol, I guess if I look at it that way....
Idk, I think I'm hyper-sensitive about the animal comparisons because my cousin has legit health problems that cause her to gain weight, plus several medications that make her look heavier than she is & her stepmom would constantly ridicule her. She's a vegan, she doesn't even eat the few junk food items that are vegan / gluten free & she weighs ~220 at 5ft5-5ft6. Her stepmom would oink at her if she wore anything pink, call her Dumbo, etc. Once she got her a Hungry Hungry Hippo game, with a card that read "To my step-hippo, maybe if you ate marbles you wouldn't be so fat."
