Hope you had a great day, Beeps, whether you found a different beach with kayaks or just decided to take it easier. Enjoy your last couple days in Hawaii, and safe travels to San Diego! I'll be passing through there next weekend.
Sundays are a tough day for me calorie-wise--since I use the office gym, I don't tend to work out on weekends. Saturdays I run tons of errands so have no problem getting my steps in and burning enough to eat what I want to, but Sundays tend to be working around the house days, which mean fewer calories burned and easier access to food... Gonna have to work on that.
Off to go pack tomorrow's lunch. Just a few days until I'm off on vacation!0 -
RM1000 - where are you going on vacation?
We'll kayak tomorrow. Today we did some walking and then swam the day away.0 -
Beeps, I'm headed to a spa in Tecate, Mexico called Rancho La Puerta (they pick you up at San Diego Airport, thus the brief stop there). Can't wait! Haven't been in a few years and I am really looking forward to it--if nothing else, it'll be awesome to eat healthy food without having to plan/cook it myself. I'm going with my mom, but we do totally different classes, etc and just meet up for meals. The hubs is going to fly out with us and hang out with his boys in LA (he went to college there).0
-
Beeps! You look wonderful! RM is right! No one is going to say anything or even be looking at those tiger stripes! Be Proud! You look amazing!
Have fun at the spa Rm. Sounds great!
Welcome Grant and Anthony!
Had a good weekend despite fighting off a sore throat! I even tried some chin ups with a little assist from my hubby! Did 3! lol Well its a start!
Started running with the Zombies run 5k app! Makes you want to run with zombies growling in your ear!
Have a great Monday cool kids!

Happy Monday All! The weekend was busy, as always. I made it to the gym Saturday morning and then to get groceries before going home to cook dinner to take to my parents. My mom had surgery on her hand on Friday. All went well, but she will be unable to use her right hand for 6-8 weeks. My dad will be doing lots of housework! Had a nice visit with them and dinner was good.
Yesterday went to a surprise birthday party for a friend and over indulged a bit- cake with custard filling-- so good! Oh well, we had a great time.
Hit the gym this morning and had a good work out. My doctor's appointment is today and hopefully he will be impressed. I have lost a little over 25lbs since the last time I was there in April. I am hoping we can reduced some of the medication I have been taking. I'll let everyone know.
Have a great day!0 -
Hello all!
Kelly Sue - good luck at your doctor's appointment. I'm sure he will be VERY impressed with your progress. Great job! :drinker:
Beeps - didn't realize those were your posts - didn't recognize you. You look fantastic! Your hard work has certainly paid off!
Chelle - I was inside a volcano last year while in Iceland - Thrihnukagigur. It was amazing! Apparently that is the only volcano in the world that people have been down inside. Being into volcanos, you may have to put that on your bucket list.
RM, enjoy your trip! It sounds like it will be loads of fun!
Today is day 12 of my reset. Am getting a little tired and hungry. I have 9 more days to go. I can do it!
Busy weekend - went blueberry picking. Picked lots, but still would like more. I like to freeze a bunch so I have enough to enjoy throughout the winter, but I also like to make fresh pies and freeze them to have on hand when I need something quick. Also would like to make some jam for the B&B. So, need to go out at least one more time.
Birthday party dinner Saturday night for friends, but did well food wise. No alcohol and no cake!
Sunday, I cooked dinner for the family for her birthday. Again, did well - no alcohol and no cake, although i made a kick *kitten* cake! It was a hit. My husband said it should be our new family "birthday cake".
The sun is out today but it is not really all that warm. I mean it's nice, but it is still only 21C (70 degrees). Considering the weather we have been having, this is HOT.0 -
Just got home from the doctor's office. He was impressed with my weight loss, even though he has an evil scale that is about 5lbs higher than mine. According to his records, I've lost 20lbs since my last apt. and 60lbs in the last year. He didn't take me off the diabetes meds completely but he cut the dose in half. I'll take it for now. My next apt is in November so let's see what I can do between now and then.0
-
That's wonderful news, KellySue! That would be awesome if you could go all the way off in November.
sdereski, I am jealous of all your blueberries. Living in NYC in an apartment, I have a rather small fridge/freezer and while I do have a few baggies of blueberries stashed away, they won't get me too far. My mother has been making batches of this lately so I'll just have to mooch off of her.
http://www.saveur.com/article/Recipes/Slow-Cooker-Blueberry-Butter
And good luck with the rest of the reset!
I had a pretty awful day at work today, and there were treats galore on the snack table behind me. I have to admit to succumbing to one piece of Leonidas chocolate, but what turned me around and stopped me from going completely down the sugar trail was a call from my favorite nail salon--I won a free mani/pedi! I was too cranky to go to the gym after work, so I walked home from work (2 miles) and stopped at the salon on the way and picked up the gift certificate.0 -
Kelly Sue, the weight loss numbers you have been posting are NO JOKE! Good for you and maybe your meds can be decreased even further in a couple of months!
Sdereski, blueberry picking used to bore the CRAP outta me, as a kid. In fact, so much so that whenever ANY relative of mine wants to take my kids berry picking, my answer is always a flat-out "NO". Zzzzzzzzzzzzz
Well, that's it for the beach/water sport part of our vacation. We leave for the city, tomorrow, for theme parks and zoos.
And, nope, my white midriff stayed buried in a tankini....now when I take off my top, I glow, lol!0 -
Kelly- wonderful news from the doctor! Cutting your meds in half is huge! That is a fantastic NSV!!! Keep up the great work!
RM - congrats on winning the mani/pedi and good on you for staying strong with all those treats around to tempt you! Some days are so tough and others are a breeze. The win made your day a huge success I'd say.
Beeps - LOL. As a kid I loved to go "picking" but spent more time running around through the bush than actually picking, but I loved the goodies my mom would make with the berries, so we picked. My mom was afraid of the bush, so it was only us kids that would go. We would also pick to sell some and make some extra $$. Now, I get down to business and pick. There is a part of me that would prefer to wander through the woods, but one can easily get lost, as I know for a FACT! I got lost 3 years ago while picking and spent a night in the woods. NOT FUN! So, now, I pick and always try to stay aware of where I am. It's amazing how far I can go just turning and stepping. I have to admit, I told my husband I was not built to work in the fields, I was built to sit on my *kitten*. I was sore from bending and squatting for those 3 and half hours.
I lifted yesterday! Yay! I only did 30 minutes, but it felt good. This damn reset and no exercise sucks! I've been trying to do a little bit of extra moving regardless. Today is day 13. So far I am down 6 lbs.
Wishing everyone a great day!0 -
Wow, sdereski - what a SToRY!
I'm even more convinced me and my kids should NEVER pick berries, lol.
Lost in the woods?!?!? Omg0 -
Beeps- Have fun at the zoos and theme parks. My little man loves the zoo! He has recently had a new fascination with my cat and likes to chase her in his walker! Too funny to watch!
sdereski- enjoy your blueberries. I used to hate them when I was young, but I can't get enough of them now. They are one of my favorites- just plain with nothing else on them. Although, I do like the treats made with them also!
Made it out for a walk today, and have had a busy morning so far. Leaving work a bit early today as I have to have blood work in the morning and have to fast for 14hrs. That's no food after 6pm so since I normally don't leave work until 6:00 my supervisor is letting me leave early so I can have dinner before that.
Have a great day everyone.0 -
Ah so this is where the older fokes hang out. Any 40+ males every get around to finding those abs they tell us are on our body :P
I swear ever since i got it in my head to see my abs i look everyday for the damn things to poke out.0 -
LOL! James, I agree, I'm 55 and have never seen my ab's, and often wonder what I'd look like if I had a 6-pack..
However, after losing several pounds and inches, I can honestly say I have a 4-pack. I'm working on finding those other 2 if that Special K pinch of mne will cooperate. Darn belly fat. You'd think after losing 24 inches around my midsection the past 4 months I'd have nothing but muscle, but unfortunately thats not the case. I'll continue to work that area until hell freezes over and live with what I've got.
Hang in there and keep exercising....

I know it has to be from all those years i ate sour candies. I dont like sweets much but when it comes to sour worms, rings, soothers, you name it i ate it. Knowing now that sugar tends to be the culprit for our belly fat. Here i thought all i would have had to do it cut out the night time pigging out of popcorn just to get them to show, wow was i wrong on that one. Its our lifestyle of eating now so its not like i really am in a hurry.0 -
Have fun Beeps! If you are still in San Diego hit the safari park! It is awesome. Never saw so many animals out and about at any other zoo!
Yay Kelly! booo at the Dr's scale! lol You just keep rocking it!
Sdreski you are awesome! the survivalist! ; ) Berries and all!
James- Girls can have abs too! lol I have a ways to go but 7 inches of my tummy is a start!
Hope everyone is having a great HUMP DAY!
Keep rocking it cool kids!0 -
Well, went and had my blood work this morning, but I couldn't make it 14 hours for the fast. My blood sugar dropped to 60 this morning and I had to eat half a banana before leaving for the lab. They were very understanding and did the test and just put in the paperwork that it was non-fasting. Anyhoo- I can get the results tomorrow.
Today was a rest day for me, but I had to do a ton of cleaning at work since our land lord replaced ceiling tiles yesterday and left debris all over the floor, tables and my desk.0 -
Hi!
San Diego zoo is done.
Tomorrow, the animal safari.
Friday, sea world.0 -
Happy Thursday everyone! I got the results back from my blood work. A1c is at 6.3 which is about what it was four months ago, but still very good. I still need to get my good cholesterol up. Triglycerides and overall cholesterol are both good.
Made it to the gym this morning. Lifted and did a bit of elliptical. Now, I'm at work and it's been a busy morning already. Hoping the day quiets down some.0 -
KellySue - results sound good!
I must say, we haven't "theme-parked" in a couple years, and I'm grateful....before that, we did 6 theme park vacations (Florida and California) in 5 years.
{shudders}
We are going to sea world, San Diego, tomorrow, and I'm exhausted just thinking about it!
We were supposed to go to the wild safari park, today, but it's a long drive and my kids just get car-sick....might try Coronado island, instead!0 -
1st time on this board. I'm 41 this year. Looking to see if we can plan a trip to France next Sept. for a week to visit some friends who always go for like 6 weeks. But I don't want to go looking like I do. Neither does my hubby. So, here I am, back at it, trying to make things a bit more permenant this time with 'lifestyle changes' instead of dieting.
Even seeing a dietitian who has been awesome on some insights, suggestions and answering questions. She hasn't been trying to get us to 'stop' our 'wicked' ways but instead letting us discover how unhealthy certain things are for us and how good other things are.
Don't have kids, just four legged furballs and a husband0 -

Flora - great to see another Nebraskan on the site. Go Huskers!! Although I'm not sure you're a football fan or not, good luck in losing weight.
Here is my advice that I've followed since April 4th - I've used the 80/20 rule our fitness instructor told us to follow. 80% diet (what we eat) and 20% exercise. Use this site to track what you eat each meal and day, set your goal of reaching 140 lbs like the site instructs you to do, exercise, and then watch the lbs slowly disappear.
That's the easy part, the hard part is trying to tell your brain you don't need all that junk food to survive and that fruits, veggies, good carbs, good sugars, and protein foods are just as good. My motivation was the first time I had my measurements taken, sort of like a before and after picture in which I lost 28 inches and 7 lbs. I try and workout or walk each day, watch what I eat, indulge in 2 cheat meals each week (that really helps knowing you can do that) and track it all on this site.
Here's where I'm at since April 4th
Inches lost - 50
Weight lost - 25 lbs (started at 180.7 lbs)
Body Fat % - 13.5% (started at 20.4%)
I've lost 24 inches around my stomach and hips alone... Woo Hoo....
Now my challenge is to keep it off.
I agree with you about posting on this site and letting others like ourselves give us the incentive to lose weight and or keeping it off with their advice. Its nice to hear others say that "you've done a good job" or "you gotta look great", etc etc.
Continue to post and one more piece of advice. Water is your friend. Drink plenty of it and get used to waking up 2-3 times during the night to go pee.

Hi there! I wanna be a cool kid too! I am 49 (geesh - that's hard to type) and have been on and off MFP for a year or so. Just joined a gym for the first time in.. i can't remember. I need to step up my game, asI would like to lose some weight, but more importantly I can't get over how quickly it jumped on after I hit 40! I need to stop it now, and I need to get myself in great shape so that now that my kids are big and retirement is in my future, I want to be able to enjoy it!! Glad to see the 40+ group! I would like to lose about 20 pounds, so far I have only gained, but the measurements are going down! :ohwell:0

Hello cool kids!
Welcome Flora and Cinday!
Good advice there RD!
Yay on your labs Kelly!

I have another day at the dentist tomorrow, to get my crown and finish up some other work! Kids and hubby get to go this time too and get their cleanings! fun stuff!
I hope you all have a great weekend and make yourselves proud by working hard and staying strong!
xoxo

Hey hey! Nebraskans! We midwesterners gotta stick together! Well, actually, I'm an Iowegian by birth (Iowa) but I'm not a big football fan so I never really picked a team. I like the Huskers, don't get me wrong but just not an avid follower.
Actually, hubby and I are learning, well more him than me actually, about portion control. He claims I eat like a bird, and he eats like my one dog who acts like we starve her, snarfs her food and then goes looking for more. He's the one with serious protion control issues and knowing when to say 'stop'. It's also been a real eye opener to him at what you get a restaurants and how it can really rack up the calories.
So we are learning, making better choices, eating better, learning about foods that will satisfy the cravings but won't cost us hugely in calories or fat/carbs.
Excersise for me isn't really a problem too much. I never stop moving to be honest (except at work...when I have to sit still for 8 hours being a receptionist) but watch out when I get home. I'm either in my gardens, doing housework, home improvement or puttering. Plus being a receptionist, I'm forced to take a lunch, so I do so by going to the gym in our building at 10am when no one else is there.
Gonna be another warm muggy day, and I've got a half day today at work. Going up to Fort Atkinson to work in the hobby garden pulling weeds, cleaning up the walkways and trimming back plants....in 90 + heat and high humidity. Made sure I brought my big mug for water.0 -
Hello!
I don't want to be cool, I just want to find a friendly place where I can ask questions and not fear the answers!
Am I in the right place?
Well, I don't think I'm cool but since we're all adults here and hopefully mature enough to give honest, straightforward answers, I hope so!
I was kinda shocked yesterday when I stumbled across a posting somewhere else that started out with the question, "What does it mean when I gotta pee?" The answers had my jaw on the desk. I didn't realize we had so many immature people on MFP. Oh well, takes all to make the world go round, but still......
But welcome, feel free to ask and hopefully someone will be able to answer your questions and give friendly advice0
