That is crazy, log what you feel is beyond your normal activity. I don't sweep and mop 2200 sq ft every day by hand so on the days I have to I will log it if I feel like it and sometimes I only log 120 cals on my eliptical (on my rest day) versus my 200-400 HIIT days- and weight lifting doesn't burn as much according to my HRM- but I log it!0

OK if you are not suppose to log anything less then 30 minutes what happens if you do 10min in the morning 10 in afternoon and then say 15 in evening you have now done 35 min. of exercising what then? They are saying none of it counts. Don't think so. I did the exercising I am going to log it, every little bit helps.:happy:0

Thats crazy talk! What would be the point of taking the stairs all day, or fitting in that quick morning walk, etc if everything had to be 30 minutes. Let that person do what works for them...and you do what works for you.0

I log everything... even if I just cleaned for 10 minutes or went on a short walk with my dogs. Now I may not eat back the exercise calories that I logged but I still want to see what I have done. I like logging everything so I can look back and see if I did something a little extra that pushed me to lose that extra .5 lb.

I log my workouts, regardless of the time. Helps me to stay accountable and chart my progress. Also helps me to check on myself and make sure that I am sticking with my weekly goals.
I don't personally log cleaning, etc. But, in my opinion, it's to each their own. Maybe they have a reason for keeping track that way. Who am I to judge someone elses physical activity.0 -

i go walking for my 15 minute breaks. it only burns like 70 cals but if i do that twice a day it adds up. if i need to log every single thing i put in my mouth then you better believe im logging every activity i do.0

Perhaps the person is working under the theory that fat burning doesn't take place until after 30 minutes of steady exercise. I've heard that espoused here and other places. Of course, that doesn't matter because it's total energy in vs. energy expended that determines weight loss. When it comes to your body, it truly is a zero sum game.

I have logged less than 30 mins when I tried the 30DS. To me it was a lot harder than an hour of something else.
My usual exercise is walking though and I only log it if it's 30 mins or over AND if it's over what I would normally do in a day e.g. I don't log walking to the shop etc. which is probably a 30 minute round trip but I did log walking home from work today because I normally get a lift.
My activity level is set at 'lightly active' so I figure some walking would be included in that as well as my work (housekeeping / cleaning). That's just my personal way of doing it. It makes little difference to my calories when I log a 30 minute walk but I just like to see what I've burned out of interest.0 -
That is ridiculous! Ummm there is a program out there by Tony Horton called "Ten Minute Trainer"..... you can do just one 10 minute workout, 2 or stack 3. You also do not have to do them together. I have seen someone get great results with this. This person complaining is an uneducated idiot in the area of fitness. SMH.0

I disagree... my arm/shoulder/chest weight session was a quickie last night. I still logged it, b/c I'm still proud of myself for fitting something in instead of letting everything else I had to do become my excuse for slacking off.

On a side note, I do get a little annoyed by people who only log things like cleaning... daily. But I just shake my head and keep moving. To each their own.
Well said, the same thing bugs me... Or cooking?! Cooking or food prep doesn't count as a flipping calorie-burning activity. Maybe I'll start logging typing...
I only count cooking or cleaning if it is a substantial amount of time and effort. If I'm making a huge dinner where I'm chopping and moving (and I tend to dance a little while cooking lol), I'll count that. Cleaning I count because I only clean on Sundays and it is usually for 2-3 hours, so I'll log 1-1.5 hours of cleaning (to be safe). I think it comes down to you log what you think is sufficient. I do laundry often so I don't count lugging the basket. That's my opinion.
Edited to add : I think I've counted cooking maybe 3 times since I joined. It's rare that I do enough "burning" to count cooking.0 -

I would say that person is crazy. It is just like the MFPer who said that carrying around babies or pushing babies in a stroller don't burn calories - she was full of crap. My babies are 60 lbs combined (3 and 20 mo), and let me tell you I burn major calories pushing them in a double stroller. I count every bit of exercise.
Like others have told you, this is your process - do with it what you want. Take the advice that works for you and ignore the rest.0 -
I think it would depend more on what you put in as your lifestyle. I am a computer guy so I listed my life as sedentary and list everything else I do. I sometimes walk around a lot when heading to client sites, so I could have put myself as light or even moderate for my activity level depending on the day. Of course, if I did that, I would be way over on the days I don't do much or have a rest day. So, the moral of the story is do what works for you. If you have yourself listed as having a moderate activity level but really sit all day at work, you might be better off not logging the little walks because it is included in your daily calories already. Ya know what I mean?0

Tell her: "slow your roll, hot wheels!" It's better if we can work out for longer periods of time, sure, but who has the time to do this all the time? Your body will still benefit from 3 separate 10 minute workouts, so why not log it? I don't judge anyone for what they log except when I see them drinking 0 glasses of water a day or eating out every single meal (and then complaining they don't lose weight, but only if they complain) because we are all trying in our own ways to get to our goals.0

Wow.....if I exercise, I log it. I rarely go over 300 per day. If I eat it, I log it. So, if I burn it, I log it.0

I think if that's what your friend wants to do then that's what she should do. But, I don't know why she should complain about anyone else doing it.0
