this is amazing! i think weight lifting will get my body where i want it to be, what do you all think of the bowflex?
Too expensive! I use a gym. That way I don't have to move the weights if I have to move!

WOWZA! Such inspirational photos. I just started NROLFW this week and am hoping I am finally on the right track. I've been doing two hours of cardio a day with very little progress.

    Thanks for sharing!

We have one. We got it when we lived in the mountains and had no gym. It's okay. My husband likes it. It isn't great for lower body moves. But it's better than nothing.

started around 165lbs got down to 125 and now im 17-17.5% BF weighing 135lbs- 5'4"

Wow. That there is awesome. Seriously.

Up to this point, I've mostly just been doing Jillian videos. I've gotten stuck for the last few months in the weight loss. When I started this, it was 100% about getting my blood pressure down and building some muscle (always wanted to be more muscular than skinny), but somewhere along the way, I started obsessing about the scale number. I don't like that.

I've recently started Body for Life and have put the scale away, which is a little scary. I'm still logging, but I have this irrational fear that if I'm not watching the scale number, all that weight is gonna come right back. Ugh. Anyway, BFL is 12 weeks long, so I hope in 12 weeks, I will have some awesome pics to post.

Bump Bump. You all have motivated me to start back lifting weights. I did it for a little while then totally stopped and was focusing on my cardio. Thanks for the inspiration.

All I got right now. Hmmm, I'll have to look for some real befores. I started lifting in September. My avi is from end of January to mid March and I lost maybe 2 lbs but went down at least one pants size. I was only eating at a slight deficit at that time too.

Also, this isn't my after picture either. Just my during.

Great job ladies! I love seeing what is possible and learning about what it takes to get there. I am starting slow and don't belong to a gym but I find your results very motivating. I read New Rules and checked out StrongLifts. Thank you for sharing your photos and stories.

Thought it would be cool to put together a little timeline showing when things started changing for me.

I started lifting in July. I'm still amazed at how quickly my back and shoulders changed. The butt was the last thing to change.

There's really not much difference from the front. No wonder I don't really see change in the mirror, since I typically only see the front of me in the mirror! But it is only 5 pounds difference, so I really shouldn't expect much.

(Edit: Yes, I shaved my pits! It's the curse of having such dark hair... I look like I have a 5 o'clock shadow!)

wow, wow and triple wow. i never really envisioned myself possibly looking like you strong healthy women. my question is, do i need to lose my last 40lbs before i start lifting? i have to tell you, its a little scary thinking about eating more than 1200 calories a day. i've lost 26lbs since jan 2. i'm doing a lot of different exercise 5-6x a week but lifting is not in the mix. i bought the book "new rules for women" last night for my kindle. so do you think i should wait until i lose 30-40lbs before i start. i'm a little nervous about building muscle over my fat. i can hardly imagine having abs like you ladies, oh my goodness, its exciting just thinking about it.

Start lifting now! The more of your existing muscle you keep, the less pounds you'll have to lose! :drinker:

No!! If you dont implement some type of liftting program about 22% of your total weight loss will be from lean muscle.
In my opinion lifting is like finding the fountain of youth.

    Amen!

So many women just do cardio...which is so far beyond counter productive it's not even funny. Of the two...cardio is actually the better to eliminate for fat loss and body conditioning. Now...I'm not denying its other benifits, I'm just saying if your goal is to look great, be healthy, eat far beyond what you would expect to be able to, and probably most importantly to many here, burn stupid amounts of fat...hit the weights!! Use enough cardio to get your heart and lungs warmed up...then go lift heavy. Your body will seriously thank you for it...as many of you girls here have clearly learned =D.

    Awesome topic!

I started weight training this week. Six days in and the weight hasn't changed but there's a few ab muscles showing (my 2-pack). ;) And I just cinched my belt up another notch. It was all I could do to stop myself from going back to the gym today. I hear a rest day and sleep really help polish off the work out... so I'm listening. :)

For some it's to save the topic so they can read later or to 'bump' the topic to the top of the list for more responses.
