Are Fit women the most hated group in America?

According to a lot of threads on this site alone my body is disgusting. I don't know why people say it and I don't care, they are ****ing stupid. I choose mermaid over whale any day.
This.
Skinny bashing is ridiculous too. But for some reason more acceptable? I don't get it.
I think it is more acceptable (to some) because often the most vocal bashers wish they were smaller.
It is almost a defensive reaction.
There is rarely anyone bashing a fat person that wishes they themselves were fat.0 -
Soooooo many people here missing the point. :noway:
Yep...I don't think the OP was really talking about either of the women specifically nor meant for it to become a debate on what type of body is more attractive (of course everyone has their own preference). Moral of the story was the hypocrisy of being able to bash thin people but expecting to be politically correct when talking about overweight people (which is not what anyone is calling marilyn just so we are clear). Truthfully this kind of uneven playing field exists with more topics than just weight. For example, no one would likely be offended if people were making jokes about the rich but it would be distasteful to make jokes about the poor. What I find most unfortunate about it overall is that its usually pics of women and its other women tearing them down. The whole concept is just such a waste of mental energy.0 -

What are the ratios of fit to non-fit women out there? Maybe it's just a majority-rules mindset.... you're different, therefor we can poke fun. Just a thought.
I agree with you and downsizing. Very well put
I guess I have seen this a lot, when I am surrounded by my obese side of my family I am picked on by my weight a TON. If I am just with one person it never even gets mentioned usually. Hmmm0 -
I have noticed that it seems perfectly acceptable for a man to say he loves curves, or some meat on her bones, or big girls, etc. but woe to a man that says outloud that he likes slender, thin, petite women. He is automatically percieved as an *kitten*. As a woman that is thin and has been her whole life, I have recieved the message loud and clear that my body type is not what is universally attractive. You may look at the profile picture and think I am full of it, but seriously, being thin is a mixed bag. Thinness is coveted and put on a pedestal and at the same time torn down and ripped on repeatedly.0

They're both pretty and happy, why should we say that for some reason one is less attractive than the other? Everyone has the right to feel confident in their body- fat, skinny, and anywhere in between.0

I agree, I do think it's a defensive reaction. I don't think it's just because they wish they were smaller though. I think it's a backlash against fat hate in general. It is still very acceptable to bash someone for being fat. Fat hate is prevelent. Whether you want to see it or not. I think fat hate comes from a place of fear, becuase you DON'T want to be obese. So if you're the one getting picked at constantly it's a natural reaction to pick at what's picking on you.0 -
Soooo, assuming the women who were bashing the girl on the right are overweight, would they be ok if people commented on their own pictures calling them "heifers" or "whales" or "fat *****es"?? I'm guessing no. Either way, it's wrong. You can not like something and not be an a**hole about it. No one knows the answer to "why" they commented the way they did except for them. And odds are good that they're not going to give you an honest answer anyway.0

Yup. To respond to the original post... You never see women who are in shape saying that the girl on the right is anorexic... it's always the ones that are out of shape... or the girls that are pissed off at the world for one reason or another. Thankfully I don't have too many posts like that on my facebook (or I blocked the people who are obnoxious in that way from coming up on my news feed).
However, I did see one recently that was like this:

Pretty sure one of those girls wasn't happy...0 -
I had to laugh the other day. Most of my family (immediate and extended) are overweight. They post pictures of themselves on FB in shorts sitting outside, in bathing suits sitting by a pool - no problem. I posted the same pic I'm using as my profile pic here on FB, with a comment saying "Finally got to the weight I want to be, so I bought a bikini!" and within minutes received 16 comments about "You're looking too skinny", "Is that a good kind of picture to post on FB?", "You eating enough?". Out of those 16, there were only two that said "Auntie - wow you look fantastic!" and one from a guy cousin who's a bit of a joker saying "Who are you and what did you do with my cousin? Rawr!!!!!" Oh yes, and one cousin said she thought I photoshopped it. LMAO
So apparently when I looked like them, I was perfect, but now that I'm at a perfectly acceptable weight for my height, I'm too skinny and possibly anorexic (because I'm exercising, you see - anorexics always exercise too much}.0 -
No, Fit women aren't the most hated group. I think what you're seeing is a backlash against fat hate. I don't think it's cool to shame anyone for the look of their bodies. But honestly, I get a lot more negitive comments when I'm bigger than when I'm thinner. When I was smaller I didn't get oinked at while I was running, I didn't get poor customer service when shopping for clothes, I wasn't told very plainly that a shop didn't cater to people of my size. It's embarassing and hurtful to be a fat woman. So much easier to be a fit one. You even get checked out once in a while.
But again, I don't think it's cool to shame anyone for their bodies. There are thin women who try to gain weight just as much as there's fat ones trying to lose it. I think we all need to stop looking to media and outside sources for our self esteem. It's an empty victory any way you slice it.0 -

I'll second that!0 -

I've seen this one too and I consider it a false dichotomy. Nobody ever said the top row was hotter. Yes, they might be famous, but Nicole Ritchie and Kiera Knightly, among the others, are known for being uber thin. They are not and never have been considered sex symbols like the women in the bottom row.0 -

It's called "complacency" or "saturation". The percentage of "overweight" people in America increases every year, and since the majority are now overweight, it's viewed as "common". Everyone should have a little thickness in the middle, right?
I have REALLY fit, lean dogs, and because so many people are accustomed to seeing fat dogs all of the time, I get accused of underfeeding them. My response - "if I was underfeeding them, they wouldn't have all of that gorgeous muscle!".0 -
While I believe there is a level of unhealthiness in a "fit" woman, I strongly believe that no one has a right to judge another. We do not know their overall health nor are the 99.999999% of those judging doctors.. Humanity, as a species, is attracted to all "shapes" of people...the only ones that need to have concern for someone's appearance is that person and their physician. Yes, humanity has a level of empathy...and should have a genuine concern for one another. Within that that, we should extend our personal worry, but never force it upon another until the facts are proven and a serious risk prevailing.
I have a lot of beautiful women on my FL of all "sizes"... But it is not what they look like that makes them beautiful, nor WHO they are as a person. Beauty radiates from their soul. See as a blind person does, and you will understand this to a degree like never before.
Some of my amazing "fit" friends.... Lifter*girl, Ipuffyheartcompeting, babyblake, mellisant, Nerdy_Rose, SeargentSunshine, _snw_, and SumplyShanRunning....they are awesome women, but not Based on looks alone. I give mad props to their dedication, desires to be fit and healthy, and thei best part....their core persons.0 -

I have friends on both ends of the spectrum and it's not acceptable to make fun or judge either. My friends all know my views and if one of them spoke badly of another woman while we are out they know I will and have put them in their place. I have a very close friend I almost lost because ignorant people tortured her for being "so skinny" , she tried to take her life. She was just naturally very thin, she ate and ate well but people were so sure she had a ED. It's sad that we can't just look at each other , seeing what's beautiful and amazing about each of us. I was watching a popular comedian (female) that has recently loss quite a bit of weight with a ex-friend and I was so disgusted by her constantly referring to smaller women as "skinny bi***es that I left . I couldn't stand there and watch that filth nor could I watch someone disparaging bigger women. I think fit women are beautiful, I think curvy women are beautiful, and I think overweight women are beautiful. There is something amazing about every woman. Skinnier women are no less warm hearted than bigger women and bigger women can be shallow . Fat or Skinny...it is not okay to hate! I think if more people focused on loving themselves, they would be a bit happier in their lives and not find the need to target others. The sad thing it is that even if every woman was the same size, there would still be something someone would find to hate on another about.0

What exactly do you mean by a level of unhealthiness?0 -

Someone posted: People get defensive when they have been hurt and mistreated.
I agree. It doesn't make it ok, but I think it helps to explain the trend. Hurt people lash out at others. I think those memes are silly and divisive.
However, I think is hyperbole to say that fit women are the most hated group.0
