My name is Chase, it's pretty hard to shorten it.

My personal pet peeve is when people purposely name their kids one thing so they can call them something else... like "We're naming him Alexander so we can call him Alex." Why even bother with the long name?

YES!! Why have my name be Dominique and then call me Nicci? Parent logic...

My name is Rosa, and I would like people to call me that.
Only my mom gets away with "Rosi", and maybe a bit off-topic, but I HATE it when couples call each other "Babe".

It's like "Babe this" and "Babe that"... "Babe" is the pig in the city, not your significant other!! It drives me up the wall!

My boyfriend calls me "love" sometimes, or "mi amor" when he's feeling particularly bilingual, and I don't mind those.

My name's Breanne, but I go by Brea, pronounced Bree. I know the spelling makes no sense, but it's how my mom always spelled it and I was probably 20 before I realized it should should've been Bre or Bree. :ohwell: I get Bree-uh a lot. I correct clients once or twice, but after that I just let them go with Bree-uh, lol.

I can't stand when people call me BreannA, though. Not my name, and I will correct that one every time.

Kinda funny - my sister-in-law will only call me Breanne. I asked her about it once, and she said she couldn't call me Brea b/c it sounded like a 12 year old's name. Her name is Nikki. Sounds SO much more mature, right? hahaha!

We named our daughter Joelle, knowing we would call her Joey 95% of the time. Joey is the name we wanted for her, Joelle is the longer version we liked. I wanted her to have a girly name to use if she hated Joey as she got older. Also gives her the option to go by Elle or Ellie. She's 8 now and introduces herself as Joelle to most people, but prefers being called Joey (or one of her other nicknames - she has a ton).

    Don't call me MADAM :explode:

I don't know what it is. I really don't but I hate being called Madam :grumble:

Grrr! I'm with you on that. I used to have a co-worker who used to call me Madam and I finally told her not to call me that because I didn't like it. Actually, I hated it!

I had another co-worker who used to call me "Woman". I couldn't stand that either. I used to tell him my name is Betty (which he knew anyway) so just to torment me he'd call me "Betty Woman". :grumble:

When I was a kid, my older brother nicknamed me "Stovepipe" because I was so skinny. That nickname stuck with me until after he and my mom died. She used to call me that too even after I became an adult and fat.

My older brother also used to call me Bets which I didn't mind.

I used to have another co-worker at one time who called me Betty Lou. It always seemed a little odd to hear because nobody ever called me by my first and second name except my mom. I don't really like my middle name but I let it slide when my former co-worker called me Betty Lou because she was such a sweet person.

    Betty

My parents had 3 children of which I am the oldest. They named me Terri (first name), the short term of Teresa, and called me Terri. My two younger brothers were called by their middle names. My mother has no middle name and is very sensitive to the fact if anyone tries to call her by the name that got left off of her birth certificate.

In my early twenties I decided I had enough of people calling me Teresa as that was not my name and decided to go by middle name Lynn. Not long after my youngest brother decided he no longer wanted to go by his middle name but by a nickname for his first name. He has since changed to going by his full first name and I have gone back to using my first name.

Amongst family members it is extremely rude to call other family members by any name other than the name than they have been asked to be called.

As for strangers, co-workers, friends and the like ... as long as I can figure out that they're talking about me ... I answer. If the relationship is going to last longer I ask politely to be called by my first name. As long as the name isn't derogatory or rude, then I insist that it stop.

And even though I ask there are those that just can't help themselves and must shorten your name. And then the derogatory/rude rule is where I draw the line.

My name is Tristan but i always get Justin, Christian, Tristian, or Christen but the one that took the cake was when my boss called me Tyrone on the first day. Idk who told my neighbor to call me T-dog or T-bone (yes, t-bone *face palms*), but the absolute worst is when ppl who dont know my name at all call me like big guy or big man.

Yup. Nothing irks me more than being called Jami/Jamie. It's Jamian. Call me Jam, if you MUST shorten it. D:

I've never heard that name before, and I like it!

My name is Thea. NOT Theadora, not Thee, and especially not Theethee.
It's also very rare that people pronounce my name correctly unless they know me. I get Tia, Thaya, Tea. It's Thee-ah.
Also, to all of those who "cleverly" notice my name spells "The A"... Yeah, don't call me that either.

My name is Amanda.... not Mandy. Never, ever, ever Mandy.

That's just my preference. I had a boss once try to call me Mandy, and we got that sorted out in about the first 3 minutes of my employment. He'd do it just to rib me on occasion, but I'd never want that to be a nickname.
Mine too. I grew up with my mum adamant no one would ever call me Mandy. I actually don't mind it but I always correct people, it's as if my mums hang up about it rubbed off on me! My boss calls me Manda Panda. I call him w@nker. It's a fair swap. ;)

I don't ever go by my full name. Most people don't actually know that Cory isn't my full first name and are super surprised when they find out. I was even registered at college and work as Cory and my bank now accepts cheques made out to that name.

When people find out Cory is just a short form they try and guess my full name so now I end up being called Cornell by some people who thought it was funny and it stuck :P

I have some friends who have known me from pre: 9th grade (as well as family) who use my full first name but I kind of shed that name when I decided to get some damn self confidence after a really trying time.

Another Amy here. I get Aim, Aims, and even the occasional Amous. I don't much mind. On the other hand, my 10 year old daughter is Eva, and she will NOT tolerate anything but Eva. Not Ava, or Evie (2 ways - either like Chevy or long E). From the time she could talk, she would put someone in their place if she was called anything but Eva. She is so funny, because she is the most shy person until someone calls her by the wrong name.

My son is Trent, and a lot of people take it upon themselves to call him Mr. Trent. Now he will sometimes refer to himself in 3rd person as Mr. Trent, but he is 5.

My name is Valerie and for some reasons every time I meet someone new, they want to call me Val. I tell them, "No, it's Valerie" and they look at me like I kicked their puppy.

I was working in receiving when a vendor came in and needed to know my name for his sales slip. I said Valerie. He says, "Ok thanks Val" and proceeds to call me "Val" in every single sentence he spoke to me thereafter. The next day he came in and says "Hi, Val." I told him, "Please, it's Valerie, not Val." And his eyes widened and he says "Did you have a bad experience with someone calling you Val once?" No, I just don't like it, that's not my name. Then he says "Well every other Valerie I ever met didn't like being called so, they liked Val." Well not me! THAT IS NOT MY NAME!

My first name is Mary. So are both of my sisters, all five Aunts, several cousins, and my neices. I go by Mary Ann, my first and middle name. Not Mary. Not Ann. Not Annie or May....Mary Ann. I nearly throat punched my cousin's hubby because for years he would call me Ann (every one but me uses their middle name and not the full name). Every single time I would remind him "It's Mary Ann". Finally I screamed at him "IT IS MARY ANN!!!!" I probably over-reacted, but he calls me Mary Ann now. I win

My name is Vannessa and I hate it when anyone thinks that they can call me a shortened version... Van, Vanna, Vanny, V or Nessa... It's just stupid. I'll be impressed when someone actually looks at the spelling of my name and pronounces it right. :)

I'm Crystal and i hate it. Most people call me Crys(pronounced Chris) or Dot.

My son is Corben, and he will bite the head off of anyone who calls him Ben. I will to. He is NOT Ben. Also not Corb or Corby. He prefers Cubby or Dinosaur.

I'm Julie but go by Jules mostly. Hate when people 'cute' it up to ju ju or jujubee. I have a friend who always does this. Now he just does it to annoy me.
I'm not much on pet names either.

Oh god yes! I give people 3 strikes, I shall let you call me Maria by mistake that many times before I rip your head off lol. I had a lecturer who kept calling me Maria so I refused to acknowledge she had asked me a question until she said Marie lol.
My friend has just started calling me Mary as a joke and its starting to grate a bit lol!
I still go by Mazzy from time to time and the OH family still call me Maz lol. I know when they start to call me Marie that Im being taken seriously lol!!
