The people making fools of themselves are those that believe that healthy grains, like brown rice, or whole wheat bread (especially bread made yourself) is any further from "natural" than eating veggies and lean meats. Rice is a staple in the diets of the most healthy people on the planet. And dwarf wheat saved an entire population from starvation. Eating naturally is a great thing, but grains are natural, if you eat them correctly. And if you people want performance, name me an endurance athlete that eats strictly paleo. You need carbs from grains to round out a balanced diet, especially if you are an endurance athlete. Whole wheat pasta, long grain brown rice, and natural multi-grain bread are vital contributors to a well-balanced diet. I've tried paleo. I've tried atkins, south beach, Mediterranean, you name it. If you want a total eating plan, try the Biggest Loser diet. No fads, no gimmicks, just sound nutritional advice based in real science, not "common sense" ethereal garbage.
so....if I feel better, sleep better and have more energy after I cut grains out of my diet, I should still eat them anyway because grains are "natural"?
And nobody eats wheat off the field. It has to be processed and bleached and packaged and preserved to be palatable.
Are you sure about that? Because I can find my grain mill, but I don't seem to have a bleacher, a packager, or preserver that apparently required to make my whole wheat palatable.
Jay obviously doesn't have a clue as to how grains are harvested and "processed."
Uh oh, better help me out here, because you totally know waaaay more than I do about where I get my grain and flour from! Please tell me what you know so that I can have a clue! I mean, I go right to Monsanto comapny store down the road and buy all the GMO grain I can eat!0 -

....and lets not even think about things like iso-butyl-propanoic-phenolic acid or Sildenafil citrate.0 -
In fact this is the case with most veggies. People are so confused as to what is an isn't nutritious; many veggies have virtually no nutritional value aside from a small amount of micronutrients yet they are praised for their healtiness.
Fiber, water content, and vitamins count for nothing? ...Are you serious?Fat people are especially screwed up since they villify macronutrients in the name of becoming less fat, and they equate getting thinner with getting healthier. This leads to an understanding of nutrition and eating in people that is bewilderingly out in left field; flipping macro and micro nutrients when considering nutritional value, villifying primary nurients as being not nutritious depite being vital for the body and needed in copious amounts.
This is a broad freaking brush you're painting with.
"Fat people" have a variety of different stances on macronutrients; most commonly, none at all.0 -

I'm pretty much doing this anyways..not 100% because I do at times eat things that is not allowed on here, but not very often. The only thing I eat on a regular basis is yogurt. That's my breakfast and I enjoy it. Eggs are okay, the meat part I've got down, I don't eat a whole of of veggies just because they aren't my favorite, I've let go of all processed foods except the yogurt and smoked pork chops, although I think of them as processed, but if I can have bacon on the paleo diet then smoked pork chops should be fine. We get our meat from the local meat market so I can call them to see if their beef is grass or grain fed. I eat canned tuna and probably the biggest processed food I eat. I eat nothing fried unless it's dry fried or a tablespoon of butter. Most of the things I can give up, butter would not be a problem. I love what I'm doing...actually hungry now so I'm off to the kitchen to eat some meat..lol0

I find it surprising that no one mentions the effect grains (carbs) have on insulin. That is the whole point of Primal Blueprint and the main reason behind easy weight gain. When I understood how the body reacts to the different macros it makes sense to me to direct my body to burn fat rather than store fat. It's weird that some people think there hasn't been any scientific tests when there are plenty. If you don't think so you should read the books that support this diet as they are full of them.
Saying all of this I would never feel superior to others because of my food choices and I think anyone who does is a fool.0 -

Here's the basic problem with the Paleo diet: it is not based on any sort of historical facts. The cavemen Mark Sisson and others who espouse this diet only had a life expectancy of about 45 years. And we have learned that certain things are better for you than others. It's called EVOLUTION, and we are living it every day. This is essentially a low carb diet, with most of your carbs coming from fruits, veggies, and nuts. You don't, however, see a lot of athletes using this diet because they would gas out. Just a thought.
Digression: Hard for me to read "Michael Furey" without thinking about Joyce's "The Dead." I know, common name.0 -

^ I keep quoting Ron.
Seriously though, that article is incredible and I'd recommend it to people who have concerns that are stemming from insulin.0 -
