What is it about THE bikini?

It's all about perception. Go with what you want to wear.
If you need to reinforce your ego or overall confidence in how you look...just rock one...even on time like this
NOW we're talking. Can I have her digits?0 -
if its not your schtick, its just not your schtick. It is mine for obvious reasons. It took a lot for me to get up on the stage.0

I have had a cute little bikini patiently hanging on the back of my closet door for 3 months now...just waiting. I have always been overweight, had very little confidence, and never been called sexy... I decided to make the changes for ME!! And aside from losing a little weight ( no longer obese, just overweight) I walk into the room 100% comfortable with who I am, becoming and KNOW that I am sexy! Yep...I will gladly be struting my stuff at the beach this year in my bikini!!!0

Bikini = more naked. Naked = good.
Got it

I'm with you OP. I will always wear a one piece, I don't care how skinny I get. For me it's a matter of modesty. Wearing a bikini is basically just like wearing a bra and underwear in public. No thank you. Not the kind of attention I want to get. However, if others want to wear a bikini that's none of my business...
Just because others choose to wear bikinis doesn't mean we're soliciting some kind of inappropriate form of attention. I just think they look better on me than one-pieces. My bikini covers more than my bra and underwear do, btw.0 -
It kind of feels like this thread went from why is wearing a bikini someone's goal (like a fitness or weight loss goal) vs why would someone wear a one piece vs two piece to go swimming.
Or maybe I misread OP...0 -
A bikini is universally hotter than a one piece0

I get that confidence is sexy
BUT, I guess, and maybe I am too picky but I think the majority of people that wear a bikini SHOULD NOT
Ok I said it
:indifferent: :glasses:
Thank you for saying it. I have tons of confidence, and rock a one piece. I just chose to gross out the world with my stretch marks.
I'm covered in stretch marks but still wear a bikini.. People can be grossed out if they want lol0 -

God bless the inventor of the bikini and all the gorgeous women who wear them.0

Confidence is sexy. So rocking a bikini with a fit body on top of it... super sexy. To be honest, I have never seen a sexy one piece. Unless it is one piece of a bikini on my bedroom floor.
So would you say the same applies to a man wearing a Speedo?
SPEEDOs on men are nasty especially when you see an 80-85 year old wearing one on the beach.0 -
It is sort of a symbol of fit and sexy to many women, myself included!
And to men. There's a confidence factor that is involved in the perception, even if it's not involved in the wearing.
I'm gonna disagree with this. I have no desire to wear a bikini, and I am a man.0 -

Seriously.... look at your profile pic... grossed out? I think not....0 -
I would never wear one. Just more surface area for my Scots-Irish-Canadian skin to burn. I have a tank-ini I would love to fit into one day, but I love those classic one pieces from the 1950's. That's more my personal style.0

So, according to the guys if you wear a bikini and are confident then you are sexy?
So what about all of us mommies out there with not so perfect bellies but we are confident and feel sexy in a bikini, is it the same?
Or do you have to actually be fit and perfectly toned to pull it off?0 -
I'm with you. No matter my weight, I just don't like bikinis. To me it's no different than walking around in a bra and underwear. But they do have cute boy shorts for girls I want to get next summer. I don't need to show all my skin to feel sexy.0
-
FWIW, I wear a bikini for me not to solicit some sort of creepy, unwanted attention. Totally unfair to assume that about those of us who wear one. And bikinis can be modest too - they don't all have to be triangles up on top and dental floss on the bottom. Just saying....0
-
The bikini is as close to naked as most of us will ever get in public. Rocking a bikini means you aren't hiding anything, and takes confidence as well as fitness.0
-
For me, it's because of my proportions. xD I'm longer in the torso and shorter in the legs, and on TOP of that, I carry my weight in my legs. When I wear a one piece, it actually makes my thighs look bigger. If I wear a two-piece, I can slip on some short shorts or something. The open stomach makes me appear a bit longer and thinner, and it draws attention away from the weight chilling on my inner thighs. ^^"0

Yep, even better without a top piece. I like to just wear the bottom peace of a bikini. Only did that on beaches in Europe, not in public swimming pools  . That brings me to another question: men in the US should wear speedos more often than these long unsexy shorts :happy:0 -
I remember many years ago (2003-2004.. somewhere around that time), I was heavier than I am now and I wore a bikini. Of course, that was pre-children. My body wasn't excellent and I still had stretch marks, but I didn't care.... my stomach was a bunch flatter and less lopsided from being all smashed around by the little fellas that live at my house.
These days, I'm still not where I want to be, but I put my bikini on the other day just to see and have some extra 'before' pics. I didn't feel as confident as I could have, but I know one day I will. I'll rock out in a bikini with my unusually small chest and my stretch marks and what ever is left of my sagging skin and see how that feels then. For now, these pics are my BEFOREs.
Better than a kick in the eye in my humble opinion.

I think that people get really wrapped up in the modesty vs immodesty of the bikini...honestly, I want to ultimately rock a bikini because bikinis are made to amplify your better body traits. One-piece suits can be cute...they can be fun, and colorful, and adorable, but I've never, ever seen a one-piece that's sexy. One-pieces are for women who are too fat, too modest and/or too uncomfortable with their own bodies to rock a bikini.
I don't think bikinis should be reserved for women with 10,000-squat-bottoms and six-pack abs, though. Most women can look just fine in a bikini, as long as they're confident about the body they've got. Confidence is key!0 -
A bikini is soooo much easier to pull down and go pee than a one piece. I pee a lot.0

Nothing should stop a mommy from being fit and toned!0 -
Looking good in a bikini is like showing the world how awesome you look naked without getting arrested.0

I think it has to do with confidence. Women who successfully pull off a bikini usually appear more confident and comfortable with themselves. Not to say women who wear one-piece aren't confident, but it takes a lot of confidence to show a lot of skin without being self conscious.
Not one of us is perfect, and no matter who is wearing a bikini, they have flaws. It's not about being perfect.
confidence is very attractive. and of course we're all our worst critics. i think bikini's show off a woman's body a lot better than a one piece. i know that sounds obvious, but one piece's seem to hide a woman's curves where as a bikini will help accentuate them. ask the majority of guys their first thought when they see a woman in a bikini and it's probably 'wow' as opposed to 'i wish she was wearing a one piece'0 -
I agree with the OP that a bikini isn't the be-all and end-all of weight loss goals. Apple shaped women will always struggle with their waistline, no matter how skinny they are so maybe a bikini isn't the most flattering choice of swimsuit.
In my case, as an hourglass, I have always had shapeless, prone to flab arms and legs (even as a skinny teenager) so a mini skirt isn't my most flattering clothing choice but I'm fine with things that show off my waist/tummy.
My least favourite body part is my arms just above my elbows (flabby triceps) but I've had to get used to showing them off as there's no way I'm going to keep my arms covered all summer! I guess it goes to show that you can get used to showing off bits you're no so fond of.
I do think people should wear and enjoy anything they want to (within the bounds of public decency! )0 -

Very true and all good points.
For me personally, I'm just not brave enough to put myself out there in a bikini in public. Maybe someday I will be brave.0
