President Obama will announce a new immigration policy this morning that will allow some undocumented students to avoid deportation and receive work authorization.

Under the president’s “deferred action” executive order, students in the U.S. who are already in deportation proceedings or those who qualify for the DREAM Act and have yet to come forward to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials, will not be deported and will be allowed to work in the United States.

An estimated 1 million young people could benefit from the deferral. To be eligible, applicants have to be between 15 and 30 years old, live in the U.S. for five years, and maintain continuous U.S. residency. People who have one felony, one serious misdemeanor, or three minor misdemeanors will be ineligible to apply. “Deferred action” will last for two years and can be renewed.

Obama is expected to speak about this new policy later today.

Obama’s announcement will create a smart policy to help protect young adults at risk of deportation who have spent years establishing their homes in the United States while boosting the U.S. economy.

It's awesome. Allow illegals to work and go to school when AMERICAN CITIZENS struggle to achieve these things! :noway:

It's not like illegal immigrants have some special advantage American citizens don't. These people work their *kitten* off to get what they have and appreciate every opportunity they're given. They take jobs American's turn their noses up at. Getting an education is a privilege, and they work hard for it. They don't take things for granted like we do.

One of my good friends moved to the states from Mexico when she was 14. She went to high school here, worked her butt off, got into college here, got a job, paid taxes, etc. It took her 15 years to finally become a US citizen. She didn't get any special advantage over anybody else---she put in the hard work. Something more US citizens should do.

Then she is a legal Citizen and this doesn't effect her! The Dream act would allow ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS who are in the deportation process to stay. I don't care what kind of person they are. Come here legally and be what you want or get deported. It's the law.

She was an illegal immigrant when she came to this country.

Come here legit, work for it, stay here legit and get the benifits. My grandpa did it, others can too. I don't particularly feel like carrying everyone who can run, jump, or bend into tight fitting places in vehicles.

This bill is specifically geared toward children or those people who were brought here as children.

When we are kids, just how much say do we have in our parents' choices? If my parents snuck me into Canada when I was 6 years old, is that my fault? What should I have done? Do I really deserve to be booted out of the country 20 years later just because my parents brought me someplace where they thought I'd stand a chance at building a good life? Come on - humanity is bigger than nationalism. Why can't we just try to be decent people?

How about we keep this about fitness and weight loss and keep our political opinions to ourselves??? Luckily there are morbidly obese Dems and Repubs that need this site's help.

I agree. This is getting way out of hand. What is next? Ugly name calling. Just stop it. What can we do to help each other on the lifestyle change? LOL

Are you kidding me? When did your grandpa do it, please tell me? Was it in the last 10 years? Times have changed. It's not that simple, and it's not like CHILDREN of immigrants have any choice in the matter. They should not be penalized for their parents' choices (which were probably made in what they felt were the best interests of their children).

This is to announce that the Obama's will be taking another high-priced vacation at the tax payer's expense.

No, wait, this might be the rudest thing I've read all week.

Amazing how when we had white presidents no one said such grossly disrespectful things regarding the highest seat in our country.

Why oh why must one pull out the RACE card - REALLY?????????? geezus he sucks simple and plain
Gas is higher (it was gee lower when Bush was in office and they said it was high then to line his pockets - now what is the excuse?)

Obama care is a HUGE clusterf*ck and out to screw the American people. He claims to be trying to help the economy - it is failing still. Yeah ok and he is a great president because he is black not white??? Pull your head out of the sand will ya

And there it is. Someone who disagrees with Obama is AUTOMATICALLY racist. I could care less what color he is. It is his POLITICS that I can't stand.

People...let's not make this a black vs white issue....It's really an issue with people being too closed minded about one side or the other....

It's like if you are die hard republican...it gives you full range to diss Obama or Clinton....if you are die hard Democrat it gives you full range to diss Bush or Romney.

I, personally hate 'em all. .

Well, it actually is the Bush Administration's fault...... when he took office Clinton had us out of debt. We were in the black.

Q: During the Clinton administration was the federal budget balanced? Was the federal deficit erased?

A: Yes to both questions, whether you count Social Security or not.

    http://factcheck.org/2008/02/the-budget-and-deficit-under-clinton/

Fact check: Clinton didn't have a 911, nor 2 major hurricanes during his time, either. As a matter of fact, Clinton backed away from taking any action for BinLaden's first attack of a US building and the terrorist attack on our fleet. His lack of aggression allow 911 to occur in the first place.

Either way - I will not vote for his re-election. I'd rather have JC Watts, but he's not on the ballot, so it looks like Romney for me.
