Thanks everyone, it really means alot to me that you're cheering me up. I told my boyfriend and hes furious and is going to write a letter for me.
Needless to say I wont be shopping there again!

    Thanks again everyone.

Really? Write your OWN letter of complaint if you want to. I think you're making a huge fuss about something that should be of no consequence to your life. I'm not much fond of this phrase but please, put on your big girl pants and sort this out like an adult who can handle their own letters of complaint. :noway:

No consequence? So when someone upsets you, it is of no consequence? Heartless thinking.

I cant believe she flat out said that. Its one thing to say "we dont get many in that size because the demand isnt as high" but "not as sexy". What the crap? Supply and demand makes sense. Her personal opinon about sexy is rude.

    ^This.

In her own awkward, insensitive way, she was just speaking the truth as she sees it.
That's why we're here losing weight.
Just let it go and move on, knowing that you are doing what you need to do for your health.
Stupid people will say stupid things.
    We're bigger than that.

It isn't her job to speak her opinion. It is her job to get the customer the product. End of story.

EXACTLY if she was asked what she thought then that's fair enough put she was asked why, and the answer cis there not sexy is crap as, 1) sexy is a varied opinion 2) they had size 20,do it shows the flaws in the reasoning.

People like that get me soooooo mad.

Believe it or not, LOTS of people don't find plus size people sexy. Maybe that IS the reason they don't stock it.

Would it have been better and the OP less offended if the sales lady had used a euphemism? "I'm sorry, we don't carry HUSKY sizes... PLUS sizes... sizes for those more girth impaired (or non impaired, as the case may be?)

Sounds like a case of butthurtery, and while I understand that since I am a large lady myself, I cannot fathom trying to get someone fired over a stupid comment. How old are we here?

Believe it or not, LOTS of people DO find it sexy, too! For instance, I DO! Why is your opinion somehow more valid than mine?

A sales person's job is to SELL STUFF! You do that by making people feel good about how they'd feel if they bought it! If she makes me feel bad about how I'd feel in their clothing, I won't BUY IT! That is BAD for the store, believe it or not! It's not about butthurt, it's about someone who is really crappy at their job. She made a conscious choice to make a customer feel bad rather than sell that customer something she can clearly get. That is the definition of a crappy sales person.

What the sales assistant said was absolutely stupid! EVERY body is beautiful. Size 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22. How can a number define what's sexy? I'm a uk size 16 and find this absolutely horrible to see! I would of told her to foxtrot oscar!

I lost 105 pounds about 8.5 years ago and was around a 16/18. I felt pretty damn sassy! lol Then I went into a Victoria's Secret and asked for a 38D bra. The clerk said, "We don't carry them that big." I was like WTH?! I turned around and walked out. Even when I re-lose all the weight I gained back and then some, I don't know that I'll ever buy anything from them.

I had a similar experience with Victoria's Secret. I asked if they carried XL panties and they were like, "Um....no. But you can squeeze into a large if you want." No. I don't squeeze into nothing. I see they have larger sizes on their website but I guess I'm just wary about ordering that stuff online.

VS carries 38D. They also carry XL panties, I used to wear them. It sounds like you both experienced idiot sales clerks.

Can't remember if I got them online or not though, I do a lot of shopping online and VS is one of the top places I shop (clothes, swimsuits, shoes, lingerie, everything).

I would say the clerks in all these situations were (at minimum) thoughtless, even though they probably didn't really mean anything by what was said (at least I hope not).

=/ I know that clerk had no idea what I went through to lose 105 pounds, and how her words (yes, even from a stranger) affected me, but I spent over 20 years in retail and food service, and still work with the public today in my current job of 5 years. We must always try be mindful what we say because we never know the situation someone may be experiencing. And, I suppose in a way she helped me realize how big an effect what we say can affect someone, so I should thank her for that.

Love your profile pic, btw!

16/18 can defiantly be sexy!!!! Was the sales assistant just some shallow barbie? If she felt she had to be a b***h to feel good about her self then she obviously has major issues! Some of the sexiest women in history were that size!! For example, when Kate Winslet was in titanic she was a size 14 and they filmed her naked! so there! Skinny girls are just kranky cause they need food, sadly all they drink is b***h juice ;)

Your gorgeous !! Real women are all different shapes and sizes and we all rule!

I went into a underwear store and picked out a corset. It was size 20, and I'm an 18 (uk sizes) The only other size they had was a 14.
I asked the shop assistant if they would get any 16/18 sizes in store because I was interested in buying them.
    She had this to say.
"I'm sorry but we don;t reorder those sizes because they arn;t very sexy."

A number of years ago, I went in Victoria's Secret in the US, and asked for a 36C bra, the assistant said "OH, we don't put THAT size out on display". My response.... "so, you are saying, you don't ACTUALLY cater for women who HAVE breasts, just the itty bitty committee?" That was over 10 years ago, and never walked in one of their stores since. I make a point of telling all my girlfriends to not shop there. If people need ironing board covers, then that is the place to shop.

Weird. I've always been at least a C all the way up to a DD and never had a problem at VS. I had a little more trouble finding cute stuff when I was a DD, but even now at a 36D I don't have trouble there. They don't put the larger sizes on the mannequins because your standard mannequin is tiny. In fact my bra (a 36D strapless) and undies I'm wearing right now are from VS.

My point was not that they do not have them, it is that you have to ASK for them, and they get them out of the back of the store, as if they are something sordid or freakish. Women of ALL sizes should be treated with respect.

I think you're perfectly literate and if you want to make a complaint, they WILL take it seriously as they should. I really think that you're taking an ill-judged comment to heart. Please don't let it affect you, diminish your goals or get in the way of what your prize is. Nobody should be able to do that - and certainly not somebody who means nothing to you.

I am 1000% with you on complaining, but it's important for women to stick up for themselves. Please write the letter yourself. Let your boyfriend help you if you're lacking confidence, but write it and sign it yourself. This matters. Doing it yourself will build confidence, so that next time you'll be able to stick up for yourself right there on the spot! Every woman should feel like she can take care of herself.

I actually just bought a 38D from VS - not all stores carry that size, but some do.

As for the 16/18 not being sexy - call corporate, and talk to the manager. That is unacceptable customer service and should not be tolerated.

Okay, but actually, they do not do this anymore, they are IN the store, IN the drawers or ON the tables with the correct size labels.... I wear a DD, and have never had a problem.

No consequence? So when someone upsets you, it is of no consequence? Heartless thinking.

I doubt that any of my MFP friends would accuse me of 'heartless thinking'. I'm quite measured in what I write and think about it beforehand. I am however direct and I personally think it is a disservice to encourage an overreaction that will ultimately reinforce the notion that the daft comment had any kind of validity. I would personally prefer somebody to tell me to 'get a grip' so that I can put the incident into perspective rather than dwell on it. We're all different.

They may carry them in stores now. Apparently they did not 8.5 years ago. At least not in the store I went in. Point is, she didn't offer an alternative, just told me they didn't carry "that big." <shrug> She was thoughtless at the least.

Aerie was like that too, except they coerced me to try on one of their tiny bras to prove that I could fit into them. I couldn't. I wear a 40C/40D. I can't wit into VS or Aerie bras. So I gotta go to the department stores and wear the ugly bras or drive out 1.5 hours to the closest Frederick's and Hollywood for plus sized lingerie.

Omg that's actually bang out of order and very untrue. Being sexy isn't about size, its about confidence. If you're confident in the skin you're in then you'll come across more sexy. God some people are so annoying.

Wow, you are a very angry person, huh? Want to know what the real moral of the story is? NO ONE ASKED THE SALES LADY'S OPINION! All the OP wanted to know is if they had the size, not whether or not the size was sexy or not.

When you work in a retail store, regardless of the size being catered to, it is your job to treat your customers/clients with respect and dignity. Should she be fired because she doesn't think the size is sexy? Of course not, that would be ludicrous. Should she be fired for deciding to share her unsolicited opinion and embarrassing/humiliating a customer? ABSOFREAKINLUTELY!

Please restrain yourself from being so hateful. No one asked you to agree, and you are more than welcome to state your opinion. But your sarcasm and snotty attitude is irritating. Please notice that a couple other people mentioned that they personally don't find the size to be sexy, yet they are not getting any flack from it. It is your demeanor that is offensive, not your opinon.

THIS! The OP is obviously an adult, so don't question her about her age. Why is it there are these women who think they know more and are superior to others? Blows my mind.

Write an email to the manager or owner. Reread it or have a friend look over it. You want to get your point across that the salesperson's comment was very rude, insensitive and unacceptable in Customer Service. Make sure your email sounds professional and not an emotional rambeling. Believe meI have had to rewrite some emails as well.

I would be very upset. Don't let someone like this get you down. It is sexy. HUGS

^^This. People can be very mean sometimes, and when they feel like they can hurt YOU because they feel like crap, they will! Girl please, if you carry yourself like you're sexy, that's just what you'll exude. Love yourself, love your body, and anyone who doesn't love themselves will come down on you because of it but that's THEIR issue, not yours!

I used to work for a large retail operation. Here's what you do. Complain. LOUDLY. Obviously someone thinks it's sexy because they manufactured the damn thing AND it sold out. If the sales person doesn't want to do her job and be pofessional she shouldnkt be working there. She is not entitled to define sexy as it applies to anyone other than her. That was just an inappropriate dig because she obvoiusly has feelings about the way people look. What would she say next? They don't sell to different races, because they're not sexy? Small leaps in the chain of ignorant thoughts, but what's worse is she couldn't keep her thoughts to herself. Complain. Cmplain. Complain.
