Magic Mike vs A Gentleman's Club

The story: A facebook friend posted about seeing the movie Magic Mike. I asked if I should take my wife? She Laughed and said Yes. She said there were about a 12 husbands there with wives. I said, "Not gonna happen unless she takes me to the local Gentleman's club"; to which she responded. "That's not the same...there is no actual Temptation, no physical contact. etc..."

So I pose this question. Is it the same? Is enjoying 2 hours at the local strip club different then watching Magic Mike?
*this assumes no touching or dances strictly viewing*

Just some points for those participating.

*Most clubs have a "no touching" rule so that argument does not have any validity.
*Additionally I dont want to go to the club I said it only to stir trouble :) Im like that

Ready, Set, DEBATE!

I'd say it's the equivalent of watching porn vs having sex. One's actually happening, and the other is just a movie.

How the same actions are taking place. If anything its comparable to Watching the film version of oklahoma versus the live action stage show.

There is no difference in my opinion

^^^^This^^^^ - that and we aren't "making it rain" at the movie, stuffing dollar bills in g-strings and such like you can at a strip club
  • I agree with you Kells.
Ps. Massivedelta, don't take your wife, let her go with her girlfriends!

So funny you say this! My boyfriend stated a couple of days ago that if I go to see Magic Mike with my girls he is going to the strip club with his boys. I said GO FOR IT! Just no lapdances and were cool. Look but no touch. Doesnt really bother me. As far as if it is the same? Not really but whatever.

I don't care WHERE my woman get her appetite, as long as she comes home to eat! :) No pun intended....

The movie sucked, so any guy going wouldn't be that hard pressed watching it. And honestly, what happens in the movie is no different then the crap on TV now anyways. Plus there is a nice shot of Olivia Munn's boobs for the guys.

Stuffing bills is not a mandatory thing...Just because you can doesn't mean you will. I do like the double standard all the ladies are claiming though. (Or most of the ladies)

Sorry, it's not a double standard - the two simply don't equate. The movie "Showgirls" = "Magic Mike" see how that works?

    LOLin' over here :)
  • I think there's a huge difference. At a strip club, there ARE real temptations. Hello, warm naked body gyrating in front of you??

Versus Magic Mike. There's no actual full frontal nudity and there is some semblance of a story line. If nothing else, it's soft core porn.

IMHO there wasn't enough stripping. Oh well. Just a nice way to go out with your girlfriends and have a good time. My husband was fine with me going, and later told me that he hoped it would get me riled up for our alone time.

Oh, when I put wet and appetite in the same sentence, there is ALWAYS pun intended!

I am a very jealous wife, who'd NEVER let her man go to a gentleman's club! I know most clubs have a 'no-touching' rule, but for me it's more I fear what's happening inside his head! I don't want him to be thinking like that about other chicks!!

*I'm a former dancer, at said Gentleman's club, and I know first-hand how skeezy those guys can be... When the cat's away, the mice WILL play.... Atleast Magic Mike is just a movie! Not someone your wife could actually talk to, or try to have a connection to....!!

PLUS there's some skanky chicks in those clubs, who LOVE being skanky... Magic Mike is nowhere near as threatening as a money-hungry chick could be!!!!

The difference is one is fantasy and the other is reality

I'm taking the bait on this.

I would say the movie is more tempting for the average woman. Mostly due to the fact that it includes some of the most delicious, er, attractive men of the time. When I went to the movie I knew without a shadow of a doubt that Channing Tatum would be standing before me in cinematic glory with his honeybuns glowing and the possibility of seeing his "junk". That alone made me....want to do very bad things...

Take her to the movie...she will gladly take you to the Gentleman's Club.

The difference is that in this movie, there's MAYBE a total of 15 minutes of stripping, which, in my mind, doesn't fully qualify most of the time because half of it is done via movie montage, and there is no complete routine throughout. The rest is filler and bullsh*t love story.

Spend the same amount of time that the movie runs in a Gentleman's Club and you will have seen 10 times more skin than any woman that went to see the movie.

I think my argument would be that the men in the movie aren't attainable, where as at a local gentleman's club those women are, and are in your immediate area, to me there is a difference.

I just can't wait for the hype around this movie to disappear. It's sad that eyecandy movies like this are getting so much attention when other better movies are ignored because they may not have "hot actors." Doesn't anyone care about the plot in a film anymore? :/

I like your response...My question then is, Aren't those same things going through your head. Sure Channing and Matthew are "untouchable" but the thoughts still occurred. right?

of course its different. at a strip club you can get a lap dance is one example. and lets not talk about the champagne room.

and ladies dont kid yourselves. a guy may think he's not going to get a lap dance and promise that to you but when he's there his friends will buy him one and i've never seen anyone refuse.

Was that directed at me? I wasn't making an argument simply commenting that you need to be a bit more specific than 'well in the strip club the stuff actually happens' because the stuff in videos also actually happens. They don't photoshop or CGI it in.

A movie v/ someone putting their actual butt in your face? Really?

Regardless of if you are pro or against strip clubs there is a difference between a movie and a real person.
