Magic Mike vs A Gentleman's Club

I'd say it's the equivalent of watching porn vs having sex. One's actually happening, and the other is just a movie.
How the same actions are taking place. If anything its comparable to Watching the film version of oklahoma versus the live action stage show.
There is no difference in my opinion
The difference is that in this movie, there's MAYBE a total of 15 minutes of stripping, which, in my mind, doesn't fully qualify most of the time because half of it is done via movie montage, and there is no complete routine throughout. The rest is filler and bullsh*t love story.
Spend the same amount of time that the movie runs in a Gentleman's Club and you will have seen 10 times more skin than any woman that went to see the movie.0 -
I think my argument would be that the men in the movie aren't attainable, where as at a local gentleman's club those women are, and are in your immediate area, to me there is a difference.0

I just can't wait for the hype around this movie to disappear. It's sad that eyecandy movies like this are getting so much attention when other better movies are ignored because they may not have "hot actors." Doesn't anyone care about the plot in a film anymore?0

I am a very jealous wife, who'd NEVER let her man go to a gentleman's club! I know most clubs have a 'no-touching' rule, but for me it's more I fear what's happening inside his head! I don't want him to be thinking like that about other chicks!!
*I'm a former dancer, at said Gentleman's club, and I know first-hand how skeezy those guys can be... When the cat's away, the mice WILL play.... Atleast Magic Mike is just a movie! Not someone your wife could actually talk to, or try to have a connection to....!!
I like your response...My question then is, Aren't those same things going through your head. Sure Channing and Matthew are "untouchable" but the thoughts still occurred. right?0 -
of course its different. at a strip club you can get a lap dance is one example. and lets not talk about the champagne room.0

and ladies dont kid yourselves. a guy may think he's not going to get a lap dance and promise that to you but when he's there his friends will buy him one and i've never seen anyone refuse.0

sorry dude, it's the difference between watching porn in your livingroom and watching 2 people f@ck in your livingroom Nice try tho, good luck w/ your argument bro.
Was that directed at me? I wasn't making an argument simply commenting that you need to be a bit more specific than 'well in the strip club the stuff actually happens' because the stuff in videos also actually happens. They don't photoshop or CGI it in.0 -
A movie v/ someone putting their actual butt in your face? Really?
Regardless of if you are pro or against strip clubs there is a difference between a movie and a real person.0 -

No, actually. There is no actual teptation because there is no POSSIBILITY of gratification. Actions > thoughts ... come on now, you seem to be ignoring anybody who isn't saying what you want to hear. Troll harder ;p0 -

I can see your point MD, but also, there's no chance of getting a lap dance watching Magic Mike where there would be at a club. Even though I enjoyed the movie, I'm not into going to places like that, but I would imagine having a live person in your face is a much different experience for someone who is into it, than watching a movie, whether touching is allowed or not. And there are always lawbreakers out there. Not saying you are one, just sayin' they're out there. Channing will never go home with me after the movie, but a "live" one might. I know this to be true. I also agree with what Sarah said about the dollar bills.0

No, aimed at MassiveDelta - just running w/ the analogy0 -
Guys at strip-clubs tend to get drink, get flirty and obnoxiously bold in their attempts.....
You have nothing to feel bad about with your woman seeing Magic Mike....0 -
Firm believer in....
It doesn't matter where you work your appetite up, as long as you eat at home.
Let the fur fly!
However a little part of me will say....that it's nice to know my guy is thinking of me while we are "Cleaning the Fish Tank" rather than the lady he saw an hour ago walking down the street.0 -
The movie sucked
DID WE SEE THE SAME MOVIE?????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know, right?!?!0 -
It's completely different.
I can't stuff dollars down Matthew Mcconaughey's shorts.
I have no issues with my husband going to a strip club, mainly because I go with him (we were just at one on Thursday). I enjoy it. He enjoys it. He's not trying to make a "connection" with the girls and actually laughs at the guys who buy them drinks, drop $20's down for a $2 dance etc.
As far as the movie goes I'd never ask my husband to go to it. He has zero interest in watching male strippers, which is a good thing.:laugh:0 -
I LOVE the guys who go to the club with their girl, and that he makes her feel secure enough with herself not to worry about the flesh dancing all around.... but it's more guys who pay 50+ bucks to buy you a steak dinner, or a bottle of champagne, but haven't had a nice date with their wife in forever.... Guys behave diffent with the neon-strobe lights and g-strings than they do around their wives in daylight.... awoman watching a movie just DOES NOT EQUATE!!!0
