Magic Mike vs A Gentleman's Club

So I pose this question. Is it the same? Is enjoying 2 hours at the local strip club different then watching Magic Mike?
*this assumes no touching or dances strictly viewing*
Based on the stipulations you have raised there is very little difference. Both are designed to titillate with the use of visual imagery. Having said that it seems socially unacceptable for women to be aroused in this way, generally be held to be a masculine trait, so it has to be dressed with meaningless plot lines, fluffy emotional content and general drivel to make it "ok".
There is one major difference though. The nachos are far superior at a Cinema....0 -
Speaking as a woman...
I do not want to see this movie because the plot line looks interesting, I want to see it because I like seeing Channing Tatum without a shirt.
What's the difference between me going to see this movie for that reason and a man going to a strip club?0 -

Bingo. One of the few women who is willing to admit it. Its funny too because its so obvious a double standard. The women dont want their men to go to the club they are just fine with there "GNO" with Channing and Matthew.0 -
Mmm... Channing Tatum.0

I don't think visiting a Gentleman's club is a fair comparison by any means. Just comparing the venue of a movie theater to the venue of a gentleman's club is quite a bit of a difference.
About 15 years ago, there was a movie called Showgirls, with Elizabeth Berkely from Saved by the Bell in it.
I think a guy going to see that movie would be an accurate comparison to women watching 'Magic Mike'0 -
You obviously don't hear the thoughts going through women's heads when the preview for Magic Mike comes on.
They should probably put plastic covers on the seats.0 -
Same difference.0

Doing > watching
doing what? Watching is all thats happening in both examples
I doubt the movie characters will start talking to you, or request money from you.0 -

As a side note, I don't give a crap about my boyfriend going to a strip club, watching porn, etc or not. All things considered though, watching a movie involving stripping and going to a strip club are inherently not the same. Even if interactions are limited, if you actually GO you are interacting with a real environment versus watching a fictional one.
I say everyone should have a blast doing either, as long as its innocent fun, but they aren't the same. Similar, but not the same.0 -
ok....the movie is fun! the actors are hot!!!
Girls, if any of you have been to "the thunder from down under" its exactly like that. Super fun and slightly dirty....but nothing waving around or anything lol.
If all gentlemen's clubs had men like they did in the movie......things would be different lol
It's about time for a fun movie for women lol0 -

It absolutely is the same. It doesn't matter whether there is touching of not. The movie, as well as "Gentleman Club" (strip club), plants seeds of temptation to go after what is forbidden and the "what if's" and the "grass is greener" thinking starts to set in. Not only is this a moral issue, but a relational and scientific issue as well. Even men and women of the strongest moral fortitude and caliber can fall to the temptations of sexual desire.
Research is showing the intertwined relationship between intimacy and sex in marital relationships and how it leads to stronger, happier, longer lasting marriages. Even images can have a profound effect on the way the mind thinks and reacts and can have negative effects.
This type of "stuff" also stimulates the pleasure centers in the brain, whether you want them to or not. If that is combined with any type of behavior that reinforces and validates the pleasure, it becomes difficult to correct. Its not impossible to correct, yet very difficult in way too many cases. For example: man and wife head to strip joint, man is mentally (and physically) aroused, man and wife go home and have sex. What is he mentally imaging: the stripper. What is she imaging: her husband having sex with the stripper and feeling totally disgusted and dirty after the sex act. Her trust in him is shaken and now he must win the heart of his wife over again.
My advise: DO NOT GO TO THE MOVIE.
Personally, I wouldn't take my wife to the movie nor would I go to a strip club with her. I don't even go to Hooters because of this. My wife is more important than that. She deserves better than that. She isn't some object of pleasure for my satisfaction. She is my wife; the one who spiritually, emotionally, and physically completes me.
Best response yet, in my opinion
