Do you think it's okay to not wear a bra in public?

I think it's fine. I have a few spaghetti strap shirts that are quite tight, and I'd rather not have the lines from even a strapless so I go without the bra. No matter what I do, I "show" anyways because my nipples are pierced. I just really don't care...they are just boobs. Even at the gym with a sports bra on and my workout tank you can tell.

So, oh well. My ex husband didn't see to care.

Everyone keeps talking about the nipples, but seriously even with a bra with padding that's supposed to prevent them showing, mine show.

hm...personally I'm 42, I'm a D-cup and gravity is no longer my best friend, so I can't go bra-less in public--but maybe you younger ladies with perky chests still can ;)

They do make bras with clear straps that don't show with certain outfits, but I wouldn't go bra-less in case of nipplage. Just my two cents.

i am only an A cup so i can get away with it. if you're higher...some people can and some people should definately not. it can look either slutty or sloppy and i'm sure you don't want to be either. maybe match it up with a cami just for some extra padding?

Yep I do it all the time :P

^ this. I actually make a special point of never wearing one in public because of the kind of attention it would draw..........

I think it depends on many many variables, like your size, the type of material your garment is made of, how see-through it is, where you're going, etc...

I go braless ALL THE TIME because I have little B-cups, so I don't think anyone can even tell.

I think it should be a personal comfort choice. Maine state law allows for everyone to go topless, if they so choose. So there is nothing to say you can't go bra-less if you so choose. If more people went bra-less then there would be less of a stigma associated with exposed breasts and women that are breast feeding their babies in public would feel a little more comfortable. In countries where it is more commonplace, there are less gawkers and topless and/or bra-less is more socially accepted.

    I know where Im moving.

I think it's perfectly okay to not wear a bra in public. Shirts are also optional.

Its your body and people shouldn't be telling you what to do with it. Wear anything you feel comfortable in!

    This.

I have this silk, white halter top that's really cute--problem is you can't even wear a strapless bra because it still shows. So today I said eff it and wore it anyway without a bra. I didn't notice any funny looks or anything, but when my boyfriend picked me up this afternoon to go and run errands he had a bit of a ****-fit. He wouldn't let me get out of the truck when we stopped places.

Is this really so terrible? It's not like the top was see-through. Personally, I wouldn't care if it was someone else--and I've seen plenty of women who wear tank-tops and halters in the summer without one. What do you think? Is going bra-less acceptable or taboo?

That's not a fashion issue; that's an insecure boy with control issues.

Maybe it was showing more than what you saw in the mirror at home. If your bra would show through, what makes you think your nipples wouldn't? Unless there was some detailing over the chest.
My rule is - if you can tell from the front view that there's no bra - then put one on.

The bra was originally designed to to cover, restrain, support , or modify the appearance of breasts. Though history it has been accepted as a garment just for that. It was only in the late 20th century that it became shameful to not wear one as society began view breasts as a sexual body part. There is no law that says that you have to wear one. If you feel you want to go bra-less, I say got for it. For those that feel it is unacceptable, that is their problem.

It depends on what you are comfortable with.

White silk in the sunlight would definitely be more transparent than white silk in indoor light. So just make sure you know EXACTLY how much you are showing. I would go bra-less in public (34 C) in a black tank or tee, but probably would not in white silk because it's well -- pretty revealing.

On the other hand, I would be equally uncomfortable with my husband forbidding me to get out of the car because of what I was wearing. As long as you were comfortable and knew exactly what you were showing, how you dress and where you go is your call. I'm not saying he shouldn't register his discomfort with you - but "making" you stay in the car seems a bit excessive.

It really depends on your size. For me, it's a MASSIVE no no!!

I'm a (UK) 34H, so my puppies are quite big, they need all the support they can get and it would just be soooo wrong for me to go without a bra! But looking at your profile picture, not being rude, but you look a little smaller :blushing: so in your case, it's probably OK!

I am in the same boat here. You could always get those stickers to "preserve you modesty" in case it is cold. Or a backless bra.

I am pretty conservative, so in my book a bra is required no matter what cup size you are.

lots of people here seem to be appaled by showing nipples, say it is trashy and stuff. nobody ever seemed to complain about Jennifer Aniston having constantly hard nipples in friends tho?

Personally I don't care if people go bra-less. Its your body and your choice. Your boyfriend sounds like a controlling @$$ though. If my husband pulled that on me I would have made sure to go bra-less EVERYWHERE for a week or two. Of course I'm a little oppoistionally defient that way.

My personal feeling is that in general, people in this country are way too conservative. It is that conservative attitude that takes the joy and some of the excitement out of life. Go to Europe and they are much more open and honest with each other and I beleive have a better attitude about the human body and sex in general. To me there is no harm in that nor is it a bad thing. Go without a bra. No big deal. If you feel good about yourself and want to not wear a bra, do it. Personally, I am a guy and frequently, I don't wear underware. It is confining and at times too hot. I don't care what people think and I believe you should do what you think is right for you.
