I read them, and enjoyed them. Literary genious, no. Yet, I read all 3 and didn't feel as though I was wasting my time. I read to escape, and that's exactly what they did for me...took me out of my reality. I do have to say, it cracks me up how many people on here are saying how poorly written, etc., etc., and yet, you read all 3 books? Really? If you were THAT offended by the poor writing, why would you subject yourself to more? Just sayin'...

Because I bought all 3 for £10 in Asda (our Walmart), you couldn't get the first book on its own for love nor money over here.
I bought all 3 and decided I would read all 3 or it would have been a total waste of my money. Just Sayin
Poor writing, repetition of the same words and phrases (I swear I read "cupping my sex" about 50 times in one paragraph) aside it was such easy reading and escapism.
The second book annoyed me within the first page. So desperate was Ana to escape that Grey that, SPOILER ALERT, she was back with him in less than a week. The author could have stretched that out and actually made it believable.
As i said before, the woman who wrote it is now a millionaire so fair play.

i finished the 1st book last night, im saddened by all the negative reviews. I read it because i just wanted to read it, no ulterior motive. i did like it and look forward to the next book. i told a friend of mine if she wants to read it to please remember that the main female character is 21 and innocent and to please remember that. i thought the author did a great job making it nc-17 vs xxx by her variation of adjectives...we all would do good to remember she is now very rich and very famous for this trilogy. if it were so bad then everyone wouldnt be "talking" about it...

People are talking about it because a lot of women apparently have VERY tame sex lives, and they are the ones finding this to be so incredibly "shocking". (hence the nickname "mommy porn").

Don't be "saddened" by the negative reviews. I've never really ready any erotica before, but personally thought this book was poorly written garbage. I have to believe there are better quality writers in this genre (many other authors have been recommended in these threads). However...I've loved plenty of books, tv shows or movies that have been considered by critics or others to be bad. If everyone liked the same things, the world would be a very boring place!

As for the story, sex, etc...I think the author did a great job. It was an easy read and addicting. When it comes to the sex, I expected it to be more, well, erotic! It wasn't much different then hubby & I's sex life. We just don't use toys

Also I did read the books...I didn't think they were horrible but they weren't great either. They suck you in and I just had to finish them so I knew what happened. I do think the end was kind of lame, but I am curious to see when they make the movies how they are going to get around all the graphic, detailed sex scenes and I just want to see who they cast

Rich and famous does not equal talented... Kim Kardashian... Paris Hilton.. people talk about them a ton and I haven't seen an ounce of talent there. The writing in the books is not great at all.. you could read much better on the free sites that specialize in erotica if thats what you are looking for.

Well, I have to say mine got WORSE to the point of non-existant
WHY? because partner wld go to bed and instead of me going with him, I wld pick the book up, read a chapter, feel fruity, go upstairs and bang, he is FAST ASLEEP!!!!!!!

I'm mid book 3 now and only read a few pages a day just due to time constraints. I loved Twilight and I love this too. Just an escape for a couple of minutes a day. Nothing wrong with that. I can't decide if the overly orgasmic girl bugs me or if I'm a bit jealous LOL!

"About half way through the book, I looked up the author to see if she was a teenager. I really did because the characters are out of a 16 year old's fantasy. The main male character is a billionaire (not a millionaire but a billionaire) who speaks fluent French, is basically a concert level pianist, is a fully trained pilot, is athletic, drop dead gorgeous, tall, built perfectly with an enormous penis, and the best lover on the planet. In addition, he's not only self made but is using his money to combat world hunger. Oh yeah, and all of this at the ripe old age of 26! And on top of that, he's never working. Every second is spent having sex or texting and emailing the female character. His billions seem to have just come about by magic. It seriously feels like 2 teenage girls got together and decided to create their "dream man" and came up with Christian Grey.

Then come the sex scenes. The first one is tolerable but as she goes on, they become so unbelievable that it becomes more laughable than erotic. She orgasms at the drop of a hat. He says her name and she orgasms. He simply touches her and she orgasms. It seems that she's climaxing on every page.

Then there's the writing. If you take out the parts where the female character is blushing or chewing her lips, the book will be down to about 50 pages. Almost on every single page, there is a whole section devoted to her blushing, chewing her lips or wondering "Jeez" about something or another. Then there's the use of "shades of". He's "fifty shades of @#$%% up," "she turned 7 shades of crimson," "he's ten shades of x,y, and z." Seriously?

The writing is just not up to par, the characters are unbelievable, and the sex verges on the comical. I don't know what happens in the remaining books and I do not intend to read them to find out. But given the maturity level of the first book, I imagine that they get married, have 2 perfect children, cure world hunger, and live happily ever after while riding into the sunset, as the female character climaxes on her horse causing her to chew her bottom lip and blush fifty shades of crimson. Jeez! "

Pretty much sums up how I feel. Doubt I could've put it better.
