Good evening. Its been a fun family day. I had a chance to visit with my granddaughter who just got home from her first year at college. She is such a cutey.
Cathy and I had a good walk after dinner. I'm pretty low on calories today. I will probably eat something else, but it helps balance a bad day yesterday. I think the scales are finally moving in the right direction. My previous low was just under 170. I immediately jumped back up to 172/173 and have stayed there for weeks. This morning I was under 170 again, but not a new low. I sure hope it keeps going down!
Robin, I haven't liked what I've read on the internet, either. I did read that there is a surgery to remove the synovial lining. I won't go for that unless the pain becomes debilitating. I do wish we could find a pain pill that would allow me to sleep better. I did find the source of my severe gas pains that were waking me up. I quit using my CPAP machine and the gas went away. I don't think that I need it any more, but I don't think the sleep specialist I go to knows how to do anything but prescribe CPAP.

I am considering going to a dietian at the hospital I work for to get some advice on meal plans. Has anyone gone to one and what was your experience?
@hjwhite - A dietitian could be a help, but I'd make one suggestion before you go. Make a list of what you will and will not do to get to your goal. I did this when I first started. I had 3 columns: WILL, WILL NOT and LATER.
I was brutally honest with myself when I made this list. Cooking from scratch or following a specific diet plan that meant I had to cook was firmly in the WILL NOT column. Also in that column was "Quit eating out." After cooking for a family for 30+ years, I am over it and knew I would need to rely on prepared foods for dinners. The WILL column contained things like "staying within a daily calorie goal". Exercise was in the LATER column. Based on this list, I came up with an eating plan that I felt would be sustainable for me. IMO, that's what you should focus on if you meet with a dietitian. Don't let them design a plan based on what a perfect diet looks like. Help them design a plan that is perfect for YOU.0 -

Another Monday..... But, on the bright side, next weekend is a 3 day one. Had a busy weekend with parties on both Friday and Saturday night. One was heavy hors d'oeuvers, but DH and I went to dinner before hand and had Sushi so I didn't eat a thing. The other was a neighborhood BBQ and I stuck to the chicken and green salad. Took a long walk both days since the weather was perfect. No clue how, but I lost 3.6 lbs. last week. I lost nothing the week before, so I guess this week was my make up one.
Have a great day!

I spend the day in the gardens yesterday. 7 hours between mowing the lawn, moving the Belgium blocks to map out the herb garden, planting and weeding. Weeding was along my back fence where the woods are. There is a lot of ivy and it is growing into my yard. I was able to get 1/2 of it cleared out. I was getting tired and achy last night so had to stop. I am hoping to finish off that section after work tonight. I had a slight mishap yesterday. I was wearing flip flops and had the sprinklers on for the veggie and herb garden. There is a fence sectioning off my veggie garden from the rest of the yard. I opened the gate and was in the process of propping it open when the sprinkler hit me on the back. I attempted to dodge it but my flip flops were wet so I slipped. When I tried to regain my balance I fell right onto cinder blocks scraping a good portion of my leg up. It hurt like h*ll. I have one deep cut and the rest is all raw skin that was scraped away. Last night I was in a lot of pain and kept waking up all night long due to it. Today I am going with my student and his mother (agency job) to a horse therapy session. I am very excited about going, it will be very interesting to see. I am going to have to make sure my leg is wrapped up really well to keep all the dirt out of it. :ohwell:
Tanya - You always do such a great job with protein. Brian just made me quinoa falafel this weekend with an avocado tahini dressing. It was really tasty. You may like it. (http://vegangela.com/2013/04/07/quinoa-falafel-with-avocado-tahini-dressing/) You probably would also like the quinoa roasted asparagus recipe I learned to make in my cooking class. It was really simple. Veggie broth to cook quinoa, I think some onion (Have to double check on that), peas, and roasted asparagus. Mix all together and add fresh herbs. Let me know if you want the exact recipe and I will send it to you.
hjwhite - Great attitude about the gain! That is fantastic that you are going to do something productive with the extra time you have.
In your response to the weight loss drug...personally, I would not do a weight loss drug or surgery. My reasoning is I have lost weight in the past through a healthy diet and exercise so know I can do it again on my own. That good ole' Life Style change! With that being said, I don't judge anyone else on their methods of reaching their goal. If it works for them and they are doing things under supervision of a Dr. then great. I do not know anything about the weight loss drug. I would say it would be best to speak to your doctor about it, especially the risks/ side effects, if it is something you are seriously considering. Just remember there is no quick fix. Even with surgery or use of pills you still have to put in the work on your end.
I have never worked with a dietitian so I cannot help you there.
Robin - Sorry, it is confusing. I now will have 3 jobs instead of 2. All still part-time. :grumble: :ohwell: I will still keep my job through the agency which is working in my student's home 2 days a week after school. I've been with him for 2-3 years now. My new jobs are continuing with my current program (STEP) through district. That is the program where I work on social skills and play skills with my class. They have a day teacher who does academics, I do the rest of the piece that they are missing. Then the supervisory position is also through district. For that I will go into the homes of various students through district. I do not have my case load for that yet so I am not sure how many students and how many hours I will have. The part-time jobs through district are helping me get known within the district and hopefully will lead to a permanent full-time job.
Congrats on the walk. That is great about the woman who will be helping you with the cleaning.
Morgori - I like the recipe importer too.
KarenLeona- That is great that you are getting back out there for a bike ride. Do whatever you can. You have been through a lot and from what I heard it takes a long time to get full recuperation and back to where you were previously.
Laurie - I had wanted to see that movie! Thanks for the heads up.
Kah - I was in a funk all last week. It was really bad. All I wanted to do was lounge around and do nothing. That's exactly what I did. :blushing: Hopefully we both are past the funk now!

Good Morning.
@Tom~I missed National Whiskey Day?! Whiskey is my adult beverage of choice, on the rocks.
@hjwhite~I’m not an advocate for weight loss surgery or “diet” pills. There are some people out there that are at the end of their rope and they need to take drastic measures for health reasons, from that perspective I can see the necessity of either. However, I agree with Kaye in that the best form of weight loss is to change your lifestyle by eating healthier and moving more. Yes, it does take longer but in the long-run it’s the best thing for you. I know people who have had a lifelong battle with health issues after WLS and also knew someone that lost their life due to complications. IMO the cons outweigh the pros.
@Hansea~The 5k sounds like lots of fun!
@Nettie~Thanks, I do feel better today. Ouch! Sorry about the fall, flip-flops are dangerous when they get wet! Enjoy the horse therapy session with your student today.
AFM~Felt much better yesterday, I think I was just exhausted Saturday. Went to church in the morning (even walked there) then met my trainer for a 4-mile run/walk in the afternoon—it was a beautiful day, the park was packed. Things are coming along with his studio—equipment is starting to be delivered this week and he’ll open the doors on June 1st. :noway: Just a 4-day week for me this week, decided to make it long weekend since Monday is a holiday.

Struggled this weekend. I went to a restaurant for lunch on Saturday and definitely ate more than my share of calories.
I promised myself that I would just have a small bowl of cereal for dinner to make up for the intake but I ended up being hungry and ate dinner.
I realize I can go out to restaurants with the family and make better choices. There are yummy low calorie filling choices on the menu. I am going to do my research so that I can be prepared when I go out again. I got to be serious about this.
I did not even weigh myself this morning for fear that I may see the result of my mess up.
However, I did exercise my but off on Sunday. Hopefully I broke even this weekend.
But this is my problem. Breaking even is not enough. I need some downward progress!!!
I want to wear those jeans I bought (two sizes smaller) with the rhinestone butterfly before this summer ends.0 -
Hello Everyone,
I reached an all time low in my life and was spiraling out of control emotionally, financially, health wise. I was to the point that I would never leave my yard on the weekends except to walk my dog. One day my dog snuggled up on my and kept nudging me with his head letting me know I was still loved. He helped me realize the I needed to get my **** together.
I am back and my focus at this time being I am at my heaviest point ever at 263lb is to log what I eat, drink only 1 20oz bottle of soda a day, and to replace one meal each day with eating at home vs eating out.
I will read posting but at this time not sure how much posting I can keep up with being I am doing this big change again for me.0 -

My hubby knows the struggle I have been going through for years trying to lose this weight. He mentioned to me to try the surgery but I refuse to do it. What good is the surgery if you don't change your life habits?
Plus the girl who works at the Laundromat I go to had the surgery. I would never know she was ever overweight. She looks good but she is completely miserable.
She can only eat palm sized meals or else she ends up throwing up. She said that she has health problems as a result of the surgery.
I think I would rather do It on my own. Sacrificing and struggling but still in the right direction until I get to my goal weight.0 -

Hi everyone. I am still alive. The last couple of days have just been strange. I cant say they were bad but nothing ever seemed to be going quite right. I did get in some exercies which I will update later today but my eating was all over the place. the good news is everything looks to be back to normal so I can get my butt back into the routine that I know works best for me. Right now I am eating a hard boiled egg and some cherries. I LOVE cherry season. About one more month and the Rainiers will start to show up and I will be in heaven.I am not going to try to catch up on personals since I just read three pages to catch back up but great job to everone for all you have accomplished in the last few days and for those who are not feeling well or boo booed I hope you get better soon. Have a great Monday everyone and lets kick this weeks butt:flowerforyou: :drinker: :drinker:0

It’s still been a struggle, but I am pushing through! I basically walked a 5k Saturday morning which was a bit unplanned. I woke up early, earlier than I even do on a work day. I was feeling real froggy so I jumped into some workout gear before the feeling left and went to the beach for a sunrise walk. It was too cloudy and just generally overcast for a gorgeous sunrise, but I still got some great pictures. I walked 5k, had the air checked in my tires (my low tire pressure light was on) and stopped at the drug store and was home - all by 8:10am! Later in the day, I went to Whole Foods to get some sushi and sat on their patio for a few hours with my tablet and actually got caught up on reading the weeks’ worth of posts I was behind on the thread. (Like, I think Kaye has said, it’s so difficult to do personals on a tablet so I didn’t do any.)
Mike and Chelsea both went to Disney World with their father and his wife and their daughter so it was a quiet weekend for me. Sunday was spent in my jammies catching up on my DVR recordings. I binge watched Rachael Ray for about 8 hours yesterday! Then it happened, a NSV! Sunday afternoon, I found myself very bored and standing in the kitchen looking for food. I still had about ¾ of my calories left, but as I started to sort through the snack food (all properly portioned and nothing really bad, but snack food none-the-less), I heard myself say out loud, “You are about to binge!” I took 1 pack of Goldfish and walked away! A few months ago, I probably would have started on the snack food and when that wasn’t enough, I would have ended up at some fast food drive thru - still in my pajamas! I stayed out of the kitchen until dinner when I made some blackened tilapia and cauliflower. Unfortunately, the tilapia didn’t seem right to me after the first bit (too long in the freezer maybe) so I opted to eat just the cauliflower.
I have entirely too many personals to get thru and like someone else said, I apologize if I skip you, but I am only touching base on the ones that stood out and I still remember from last week.
@Susan – WHERE ARE YOU?? Did I miss something that you were going to be away?? You asked if Mike was still coming home and yes he is (I guess that’s obvious from above). He is here and so are DOMS!! :grumble: We hit the gym last Wednesday and had one heck of a workout. Now haven’t been back since! :ohwell: Between his schedule; being out of town for the weekend and working on football skills with a few young boys (11-12 year olds) from a local little league team, I’ve been a little hard pressed to get my gym time with him.
@Hjwhite – We all probably have issues with binge eating, I sure do! If I can’t just walk away (like I was able to do yesterday) I paint my finger nails! It may sound silly, but you might be surprised to see that it works! You can’t very well eat if you have WET FINGER NAILS! And you likely won’t be bored either. Once you take the 30+ mins to paint a coat or two and wait for your nails to dry, that "need to eat" feeling should pass unless you just truly are hungry.
@RobinE – I am glad to hear that you weathered the storm well last week. When I heard of the Tornado Watches and Warnings in Iowa, I thought of you.
@Laurie – I’m chiming in with the rest, THANKS for your work on the May Challenge. I, too, would be interested in doing this one again and would be willing to do my part as well. My co-workers call me an Excel geek. I don’t know about all that, but for what we do with Excel at work, I can definitely hold my own!
@Kelley – Maybe we should start a new group, The Funk Sisters! I feel ya girl, I’ve been trying to shake this funk off all month!
@Kaye – You continue you inspire me! You call yourself the grandma of the thread, but to me, you are just TOO YOUNG, but you DO remind me of an aunt, Aunt Bee from Mayberry to be exact! And I mean that in the most complimentary manner! I absolutely love to hear how you take care of your family, your Saturday morning waffles, your making (altering?) curtains for Cathy, your church and community services, all so warm and fuzzy like a hug from a Norman Rockwell painting! In today’s world, there just doesn’t seem to be many families that still have such strong family values. I hope your family appreciates that!
@L2T – I agree with the others on your clothes shopping. There will be sales next spring too. Also, I LOVE the list idea you suggested to hjwhite! The Will, Will Not and Later list, yeah, I might steal that idea.
May challenge:
5/1 - 1.64

Can I get another TOTALS update since I am not able to see the charts that are made?
Garden is in and a couple tomatoes are looking like they will make it. the zuchinie is not looking good. I might have to got the nursery and get some from them to plant.
We had a big party here Saturday, my sister in-law daugher turned 5 and they rented a blowup jump thing. It was a pink castlewith a slide it was cool. But there were 15 little girls screaming their lungs out all afternon, then she fed them cake and iceream! more screming, but really it was fun.0 -

RobinB, I am flattered by the Aunt Bea comparison. I got a chuckle from that.
Way to go on not bingeing. May I suggest that a 'Funk Sisters' group would be very counterproductive. The object of this group is to inspire each other to reach above the funk and keep moving onward and downward. I think that most of us don't need much help wallowing in our funks.
L2T, I really like the 'Will, Will not, and Later' lists. I think that I kind of did that in my mind, but writing it down would be very powerful.
AFM: This afternoon I went to Keith's kindergarten graduation. It was fun. They did a good job of keeping it short and gave each family a chance to get a picture of their child with their teacher.
My 70th birthday is Thursday. I've already told the family that I expect them to fix dinner that day. I don't know how calorie friendly it will be, but I don't care if I don't have to cook it.
Hope your day is going well.

A busy day today but a good workout tonight. Ran for 30 minutes prior to my training session, then walked with my trainer, leg workout, finishing with spin bike ride for 10 miles.
Tomorrow, I get to watch the Blue Angels fly after sitting with my Dad at the doctors office for 3 hours. I am looking forward to being outside tomorrow afternoon. During this wait I will be grading non-stop, I have a lot of papers to catch up on.
I just hope my week stays quiet without any unexpected meetings.0 -

Help them design a plan that is perfect for YOU.
Couldn't have said it better myself, LivesToTravel. Don't think I'd have thought this through as well as you did. After I read this, it made going to a dietitian much more appealing!0 -
Hi everyone! I never got back to re-read the posts I skimmed on Thurs. and got even farther behind with my busy weekend. I just skimmed through for any personals to me, but otherwise I'm just going to jump back in from this point.
Monday check-in:
Had a great weekend--Friday was our faculty end of year party at a friends which was a lot of fun. But the highlight of the weekend was meeting up with Susan in the city. She's so great, and we had a fabulous time at all of her work events with gorgeous weather to boot. She has the only picture of us, so she can decide if it's "post-worthy." Garetie met up with us today as well, and I took both of them on the "scenic route" to Haymarket Pub for lunch. Fortunately, the food was worth it.
Finished my AP essays this evening.
Updated my mileage for laurie. Will get back to personals tomorrow.
Grading Goals:
1.70/70 AP Lit Theory papers DONE!!!!
Exercise goals:
Mon--walking in city
Tues--walk gunner + gym
Wed--walk gunner
Thurs--walk gunner + gym
Fri--rest day
Sat--walk gunner
Sun--walk gunner + gym

Hi everyone. I'm relatively new at this. Trying to get down to ideal/healthy weight which means I have lots to lose. So far I'm down about 30 pounds since I started earlier this year. Any advice for the long haul? I'm trying to keep goals small -- maybe getting down the next 20 lbs.0

@jnettie - Ouch! Hope you're feeling better after your fall. A horse therapy session sounds awesome. I rode a lot as a kid and was just thinking I might want to start again. I need to find somewhere I can trail ride. Going in a circle in a ring is not my idea of fun.
@kah - Sounds like things are coming along with your trainers new studio. You should get some extra special treatment with all the help you've given him.
@allofme - I always look at the restaurants website beforehand, choose a meal and log the calories. That way I just make the rest of my day fit. I eat out a lot and find it hasn't impeded my weight loss at all using this method. Don't avoid the scale after a bad day. I've found out that while my weight will be up the next day, if I get right back on program the "gain" will be gone within a day or two. Avoiding the scale got me to 295 lbs, so I'm not letting myself do that again.
@mnwalkingqueen - Hugs to you and props for never giving up.
@robinb - I'm one of those people who thinks best on paper. I still have my list and I update it as time goes by. I believe that being honest with myself has made the difference between success and failure in the last 11 months. In the past, my attempts at weight loss have followed this path: "I'm going to lose weight by eating perfectly and exercising everyday. Oops, I screwed up today so I might as well sit on the couch and eat everything in sight. I'll start again on Monday or the first of next month or never......" I always attached impossible levels of perfection to my diet attempts. This time I spent the time needed to come to terms with the fact that I am not perfect and that I needed a plan that fit me and my lifestyle.
@kaye - Happy Birthday a bit early! You look great and I've always thought you were younger than you are based on your picture.
@laurie - I'm pretty sure I won't get to my mileage goal, but I'm not going to lower it. I'm going to celebrate every darn mile and take this as another lesson in "Perfect is not necessary for success".
@skinnyjeanz - Jealous that you and Susan got to meet. I'm glad you had fun and hope she posts the picture.
@p1xy - Impressive mileage!!!
AFM - Thanks to everyone who chimed in about buying clothes. I went to Coldwater Creek yesterday to check out the store closing sale and tried on some summer stuff. I was shocked when the 12s fit great. I was expecting the 14s to fit, but be a bit snug. That proved to me that I have no clue what size I'll be this time next year!

AFM~Even after a roadblock at work, I was able to get to the gym and get in some cardio; then de-stressed in the sauna. I found a new machine—adaptive motion trainer, allows you to do different motions but it did wreak havoc on some muscles around my knees. It was a great calorie burner but I think it doesn’t allow for perfect alignment in your legs thus creating some muscle tension. I felt like my knees were on fire all night, naturally it kept me awake. Tonight is weights with my trainer.
Exercise Goals:
Sunday~Run with Trainer DONE!
Monday~Cardio DONE!
Tuesday~Weights with Trainer
Wednesday~Cardio
Thursday~Weights with Trainer
Friday~Rest Day (shopping with trainer for his studio)
