Fake Pictures...

my guess is that they also have fake FB or POF profiles, and use this site to further "validate" those fake profiles.0

Does it count if they put up a pic of fake boobs for boobie friday?0
-
<-- This is a real picture of me.0

How about getting my real picture and adding a JCpenney logo to it to see if they take me to be one of their models..... lol0

Maybe sometimes this is their ENTIRE social life. This could be the only place they experience social fulfillment, human interaction, and even SEX.
SHUT UP, MOM!!! I'LL BE DOWNSTAIRS FOR LUNCH IN A SECOND...jeez...
uh, sorry.0 -
Exactly. And my point to that is... wtf? If you don't want to use your real picture, I get it. I'm not exactly "pretty." But why try to deceive other members. That's just kinda creepy.
Creepy like those dudes with like 100 friends and all of them are women...
Hahaha. I see what you did there.0 -
Did you hit on someone and then realize their picture was fake and now you're mad?
I don't get the use of fake pics tbh. It's kind of ridiculous and silly.0 -
LOL, are you looking for compliments? You keep degrading yourself and you shouldn't do that.0

The camera always lies.... It made my mother - in - law look human at our wedding, 43 years ago!

There might be copyrights on some of my photos. They are really me. I model and if I'm posting photos from my modeling work here, I'm giving the photographer their well earned credit if they require me to. Some do. Some don't. The headshot I use as my pic now, the photographer doesn't care if his name is on it or not but some photographers I've worked with are very, very picky and have every right to be so.
So just saying, if someone's photo has a copyright on it, don't always discount it as not really their photo.0 -

Exactly. I leave the watermark and/or logos on my pictures to give credit where credit is due. This one is one of my husband's latest and has his watermark on it. Many of my pictures in my album do have a watermark and/or logo, because I posted photo shoot pictures.0 -
Self concious of their own image I assume. They post their ideal appearance rather than their actual, what they eventually hope to look like.0

My picture is me - at work - in the bathroom. I did have to take several so as not to have the urinal appear in the shot. Maybe it would have been less creepy to use someone else's pic after all.0

I've noticed that a vast majority of member pictures on MFP are, or at least appear to be, "real." In fact, compared to most social networks, I think there is a solid argument that MFP members are notably more honest about their pictures than most social sites.
All that said, on occasion, I browse past a profile that is CLEARLY using fake pictures. And I'm not talking about pictures of their pets, funny JPG's, etc. I'm talking about pictures in which a member discusses how great their abs look, when a Copyright © JCPennys.com notice is clearly visible at the bottom. Really?
I guess my point with this post is to ask "why?"
I'm not saying the practice is good, nor bad. I'm just curious about the psychology itself.
Hahahaha! I've never come across anything like that... that is hilarious! Very observant of you!
Keep being awesome.0 -
I will take it down!!! ;o)0

If I used a fake pic it might look better LOL0

Mine's real. The skull is bone and the helmet is Kevlar. :bigsmile:0

if i shave my belly hair to make it look like i have abs, does that count? :-p
DO IT!
I can't imagine why someone would other than just wanting to hear praise. Maybe they have something else going on in their heads and need someone to say "wow! you inspire me! you are awesome!" Everyone loves a little praise.0 -

I wish I had the huevos to use a picture that wasn't of me as my profile pic. That would make me, like, a scammer.
Google James McCain, this guy just tried to strike up a 'relationship' with my roomie.0 -
Because they are weird :bigsmile:0

Mine is all me. :-)
I did fall for Matthew mcconaguey tho... Mmmm0 -
I've noticed a few guys here photoshopped their heads onto super fit bodies. I was wondering for awhile why a few guys' heads looked too big for their body. :laugh:0

I think the bigger issue here is why someone would borrow a JC Penney picture when they could borrow a Glamour Shot instead.
AND YES, MY HORN IS REAL BIATCHES!0 -
Mine are all legit but i caught two female pals with fake pics that were heavily photoshopped on my friend list. Makes you really wonder about some people.0

I'm pretty sure for most people it's one of two things. Their self esteem so low that they refuse to show their real self. Or attention freaks who need a constant "you're so hot!". I understand the goal one, I have a friend who has that. But she states "The pic is what I WANT to look like" Not "Hey, this is me!". It's stupid, if you're on this site, why be fake? That's not going to achieve your weight loss goals. That's like lying in your food journal saying you under ate when you know you over ate. You're nto fooling your body even if you're fooling the world. My pic is clearly fake. ~.^ But I have real pics as well. I just like Rinoa a bit more.0

OMG YES! This pic is full of win0 -
Wow...read this and totally thought of one person in partic. And they actually commented already. *rolling eyes*. All my pics are of me but I'd still say they're kinda fraudulent. I pick only pics I find flattering or make me look thinner. IRL I'm still chubby looking and kinda plain. I guess we do it for the attention. Nice to be flattered, though I agree with the OP. hard to be truly flattered when you think "if they saw me IRL they wouldn't think I'm that cute"
Crud. Now I feel bad. *considering posting an unflattering pic*0 -
My pics are me, well not the pic of my Saint Bernard, I do like to play with them and make them black and white sometimes, not sure if that qualifies as "fake" or not. I take most of them with my iPhone so the body pics are headless because I can't fit all of me in them, my arms aren't long enough. I have head shots as well. Obviously my pics are the ones I feel good about. I worked really hard transforming myself after letting myself go. Everyone likes attention, but really I like it more when someone my age who has had kids tells me I have given them hope and have inspired them. Not sure I would feel the same if I got that with a fake photo. That being said I don't care if other choose to use fake pics, if they are using fake pics and claiming they are real, those are the people I stay away from.
