Good evening, ladies. Todays check in!

    12-16-09

    Calories: Spot on, little under
    Water: Yes
Exercise: Bike 10 minutes, treadmill 20 minutes
Proud: I went through the trouble to look and came up with a 400 calorie and filling meal idea for Jasons Deli, where all my friends were going for lunch so that I could go along too.

I gave my legs a rest from jumping today again. Though the jogging on the treadmill didnt help that much. I tried the office gym and it was pretty lonely. I need a DVD or an MP3 player. Also I'm getting a gazelle thing from a friend at work that I can hopefully set up in front of the TV every few nights. So, we'll see if I like that.

Hey ya'll! I was part of the green team and can't locate them, I am trying to get back on here again, I gained back the entire 22 pounds I lost starting this in January.....a year later and I am 5 pounds heavier then I was last year at this time.

I just moved and decided I was gonna start working out again, walkin' the new dog and my gazelle.......so got room for 1 more...and what do we do in this group?

MariSama44 -- I have a Gazelle and I like it. My complaint about it is that it hurts my feet. I have no idea why it hurts, but I haven't been able to solve the problem. It's like they start cramping up on me or something. I've tried it barefoot, with socks, with supportive running shoes, with flip flops -- everything! I'm the only one I know that's had that problem though. It burns a ton of calories if you do it right. About the same as an elliptical (according to my heart rate monitor).

    12.16.09
    Calories: 1,239
Exercise: 30 minutes stationary bike. I worked 13 hours today, so that was all.
    Water: good
Proud: I'm proud I haven't eaten any of that pie I was given earlier today.

Ugggggghhhhh. I have new employee orientation tomorrow. It's not my job yet somehow it's been pushed off on me... again. :grumble: Oh, how I hate being taken advantage of. "Here, this isn't in your job description at all, but you know how to do this -- so do it." That's been happening an awful lot lately. :ohwell:

Ok Ladies...I just wanted to give you all the FYI.. I may be very hit and miss between now and the 28th. The holidays are just crazy around here and I changed my user name from Dawnannw to ColoradoGirl

Yesterday I had to have my blood drawn 1st thing in the morning for a checkup, went to the Chiro as my neck and shoulder are still giving me a hard time. I am sure it does not help that I keep using my shoulder for work (I am a massage therapist and esthetican and nail tech) In addition, we went to my step daughters music production at high school where she lives (Denver, about a 1 hr from here) so, we ate out all day yesterday ( no I did not make good decsions :grumble: ) why do I sabotage myself?

Today I am working again (this time of year I am busy!) Tomorrow, I am working again, have to finish Christmas shopping! I just found out that our Big Christmas at my families is going to be about 35 people instead of 15. So, we will have a little more work to do! It is always so great to see everyone!

Saturday, I am overbooked again, Sunday, will be Christmas stuff, Monday, Work.. Tuesday am taking my so to Denver for his specialist apt (he is type 1 diabetic). Wed I am working like a mad woman and Wed night we are taking all the kids (4 plus the daughter in law and son's gf) on our anual Christmas light looking. We always look forward to that. We all get in the car, with Hot cocoa, popcorn, Christmas music and drive around and look at all the pretty Christmas lights!

That brings us to Christmas Eve. At any rate.. just know I will be in and out and am not giving up! My goal at this point is to just maintain my weight until the new year! Then I will hit it again hard and get serious! I just keep beating myself up!

So, Hope you all have a Merry Christmas if I don't get time to get on here! TTYL

MariSama44, i have a Gazelle. I thought i was going to enjoy it after seeing the people on a shopping network Q*C having so much fun wiht it...well i got it home put it together and i have the same problem as Jlb...my feet feel numb and cramp up...and then the darn thing started to jerk on me when i would move too fast....added oil, thinking that was the case, and it would still do it. it agravated me everytime i would get on because of the jerking (it feels like you are going to fall off). so it has been sitting in my basement ever since...I hope you have a better experience then i did...Good luck with it:smile:

    welcome aboard sassiebritches:smile:

    Checking in for yesterday:
Did you stay within calories? no - but was very close at 1800
Did you exercise? no (unless I count the walk in from the farthest corner of the Target parking lot!)
Did you drink at least 8 cups of water? no - only about 48 oz
What are you proud of today? did a good job last night of not snacking while I cooked dinner, also did 60 minutes at the Y already this morning for 1000 calories burned! woo hoo!

There were two of us at step class this morning, I'm very worried that they are going to cancel my Thursday morning class since I've been the only one several times. Hopefully they will keep trying it through January, and maybe some of the New Year's resolution joiners will start coming. It definitely motivates me to go every Thursday because I'm worried if I don't show up that they will for sure cancel the class since I'm the only 'regular'!

Jib and Positively - Yeah, I was reading about that foot cramping thing, but elipticals are freaking massive and I dont have much room in my teeny apartment. i figured since this gazelle thing is free from one of my friends (whenever he'll bring it) I should try it. Running and jogging arent doing anything for me, I just get exausted, hurt and it takes forever for me to burn calories that way. if my feet cramp well..maybe I can tough through it. I need to work out, i'm not loosing any weight. =(

Mari, maybe the gazelle won't hurt your feet -- I wasn't aware it was such a problem for other folks. I thought I was just a weirdo. Mine hasn't had any problems holding up and it still works well.

About the jogging -- have you tried a progressive program like Couch25k? Or maybe your own interval training if that's too aggressive. Like I said earlier in this thread, when I first started jogging, I was too gung ho about it and messed my knees up. I kept thinking I was just going to "push through the pain" and be tough, but they got worse and worse and worse until it got to the point I was jogging in tears & I could hardly walk for a couple days after. I took an entire week off running and walking for exercise (I still walked around my house and at work, of course), and my only exercise was strength training and my exercise bike. After my knees felt 100% better, I waited a few *more* days before I started jogging again -- this time only on Monday, Thursday, and Saturday. I stopped walking for exercise & added some extra minutes on my exercise bike & made peace with the fact I wouldn't be burning as many calories on some days (like on Tuesdays & Wednesdays when I was using my lunch hour to walk at work because I work 8.30am-9pm those days -- I stopped walking to conserve my knees). Long story short (or long story long), my knees don't hurt anymore and I'm still improving my jogging and a pretty rapid pace with Couch25K.

Don't feel defeated. You *can* lose weight with diet alone - just tweak your diet and, most importantly, give it *time.* You *can* do cardio without using your lower body (punching/boxing, for example). There are also very low impact exercises (like biking and swimming). Sometimes you have to work around stuff (and you ARE! with the gazelle -- good job!) and find a balance that works for your body. Like I said, I was too excited about exercise at first too and I burned out & took a break & then I tore up my knees & took another break. Now I've found a happy balance that works for me. I'm confident you can do the same!

Hi Everyone, I love this group I really do but I have too much going on with my health right now to be committed to it the way I want to be. I can't exercise the way I want to, I have awful lower back pain and pelvic pain. So, I am going to take a break from the group until the doctors find out what is wrong with me, but I am not quiting MFP, I will still log my calories and try to find some way to exercise. I will be back when things settle down. Good luck to all of you and your weight loss journeys.

    Good Morning Girls,

lstpaul, I hate it when you have to drop off kids after you just got mad at them. Teenagers are the ones who usually cause that one. Hopefully, things will improve as the day goes on.

lildebbie, no one can explain the mind of a 3 year old. They actually listen to their bodies better than us adults. They know when to fall asleep, wake up, and how much to eat. I wish I still had that kind of ability to listen to my body/

Stephanie, pizza is a killer for me too. Glad it is out of your house (sort of:laugh: )

Jlb, you have strength I do not know how you can work in a pizza joint and still lose weight. You are my new hero

awestfall, girl I am proud of you for sticking it out. For moving forward!!!! You can do this girl.

mstahl, It is the small choices we make that lead to the big results. I am proud of you !!! Congrats on those grandkids:bigsmile: Your husband is a lucky guy!!!!!

I am bragging a little so be prepared:

Okay gals, today I was at school. I am there 2-3 x a week sometimes. I have a daughter in highschool, one in junior highschool and one in elementary school and my son will soon be a kindergardner. Needless to say, I know a lot of teachers. Today I was walking and I saw a teacher I had not seen in a while and she says "Long time no see, how are you?" Before I could answer she says "Wow you have lost weight you look GREAT!!!" She made my day. My family has noticed, one of my neighbors has noticed, so it was nice to have someone notice from school. The other day a girl from church says to me "You look really good, what is different about you, You look extra good" I said maybe it is because I lost some weight? She says Yah, thats probably it. It took 40 pounds for people to start noticeing, that is a bit depressing but I do need to lose over 100 pounds, so it comes with the territory.

Congrats I bet you look beautiful!!!! Brag all you want, you deserve it!

Hey everyone, so finally got back in the gym yesterday...stayed on the treadmill on and off jogging and burned a good amount of calories. It has been about a month since I exercised, I have been trying to watch what I eat..but exercise has been out of the picture. Wish me luck!

Been loving the Holiday season over here, going to have family brunch at my sisters house for Christmas. What are all of your plans for the holidays??

I know I can, its just the scale isnt budging and I'm trying really hard. But I'm going to keep trying. I'm sure its just because I'm eating too late and carrying extra weight in the morning. *sigh* I have a bike, but its too cold out, and I busted the biking machine in the employee gym (whoops  ) I did try the treadmill up there and its okay, and I did do some jogging intervals, but i'm so heavy that my fat flaps around and it takes a toll on my shins and the muscles around them.

Also, the reason my legs are so messed up right now is partialy because I started doing Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred. I gave up after 4 days because it felt like I had shin splints from all the jumping. the muscles that sit between and below my larger calf muscles and the bone there are hurting like crazy, I think I tore them or strained them and theyre taking time to heal. They mostly hurt when I walk and put weight on my toes. When i jogged yesterday in the employee gym they started hurting really bad again.

I was looking at couch to 5k, but I wasnt sure how to time myself walking, where the heck I could walk, (if not on a treadmill) and things like that. I get winded from just walking for 20 minutes let alone jogging. its so frustrating. But thanks for the encouragement. I know it'll be okay if I keep trying.

The answer to the timing thing is PODCASTS! There's a ton of them for Couch25K. I got a cheapo mp3 player (2gb for $20) and started downloading them to try them out. I've found I prefer Nichole Blum's podcasts (if you google "Nichole Blum C25K" it should come up). It's not really my kind of music, but it's better than all the techno podcasts. I'm not a big fan of really boring house techno.

Anyway, what they do is give you music and cue you when to start walking or running. Nichole's uses a "5-4-3-2-1-0" countdown & then the music changes tempo (faster for run, slower for walk). They've really helped me because before I was paying way too much attention to the timer on my treadmill.
I'm sure there are podcasts for the other running training programs. Or, you could even make your own.

Oh my gosh, someone literally just ran into my office with a plate of fudge & said "Grab a piece of fudge! Go ahead! Take one!" I started to do as I was being told () but then my brain started working again and I looked at her & said " No! No, thank you! Get out of here with that! Go!"   I don't know exactly who it was, but I'm pretty sure I scared her. Then, after she was gone I said out loud so my coworkers could hear, "Man, I almost fell for that!" and they all started laughing. They've all been commenting about my weight lately (which is both flattering and embarassing) and it's funny that they were listening to see what I would do.

Best of luck to you MOMOFTWO29! I hope to see you back with us soon!

You are so welcome!!! I wan to see you succeed so don't leave just because you can't exercise. And by the way I will pray that God will heal your pain and then you can get back to exercise.BY the way a stress reliever for me is exercise but since you can't find a hobbie to keep your mind off f food. For example I used to crochet or play with the kids.Maybe a form of exercise that you may be able to do is a walking video .THey are an excellent form of exercise and they are not hard at all.You can get Leslie Sansones walk videos at walmart and there not expensive either.Just an idea but if you can't exercise watch your calorie intake and find a hobbie to keep your mind off of food. You can do this and I will make sure you do.

momoftwo, I am glad you are staying with us! I understand your frustration with not being able to exercise. I have huge limits on my exercise, not for the same reasons as you, but I do know how it feels to think you are defeated. I felt that way constantly. Talking to your doctor is the best thing to do. For instance, my doctors told me I could only bike or swim for right now, due to the extreme pressure on my knees. It sucked to hear that, but hey, they know better than me, so listen to what your docs tell you. And if exercise is out for right now, then exercise is out for right now. That's perfectly OK. But please don't give up. You can do it no matter what the circumstances! :flowerforyou:

Well, today was not the best day on record, gals. :embarassed: Last day of school - every class had their holiday party, I teach every class. You do the math. Yeup, I ate those damn sweets. BUT....I only ate two cupcakes. I had five cupcakes, five cookies, one piece of lemon loaf, two chocolate santas, one chocolate hanukah coin, and about twenty candy canes on my desk by 2:00pm. I caved and ate two cupcakes, then got nervous because weigh-in is tomorrow, and gave away the rest. What I couldn't give away I threw away. So, although I did cave, it could have been A LOT WORSE!!! :noway:
Oh, the perils of teaching 250 students!!!

    check in:

cals: a bit over, but only a few hundred
    water: all 64
exercise: 40 mins bike once I log off
proud: that I only ate two cupcakes ??? :frown:

    hello gals -

jib - did your knees hurt at all before you started the couch25k, my knees aren't the great, when i walk my ankles and knees hurt. I was thinking i would like to try but if you didn't have problems before and now you did, can just imagine how mine will be. .. They seem to do okay on the elliptical..

for those that had some bad eating days today...it is just a day...tomorrow is another day.

I did pretty good today. I went out to subway for lunch, had one of the fit meals, teriyaki chicken , was more cals i usally eat for lunch but still good choice (much better than the phyilly or meatball i usally go for).

This stupid scale is making me mad...i am hoping it is nice to me tomorrow. it has been going under 290 then over then under ...yesterday it was down to like 289 today back over 290...

It was soo hard for me to workout today but i did it..

When I was approaching my heaviest, yes, absolutely my knees hurt. Ankles, too. That was one of my breaking points. I realized I was intentionally avoiding doing things (like getting up off the couch to get a drink of water or going to the copier at work) because my knees hurt. But after I lost a few pounds, they stopped hurting. If you wanted to start trying, maybe just take it really easy and only jog 1-2 days a week. Mine started hurting because I was trying to jog too often and I was walking briskly for exercise on the days I wasn't jogging (and on the days I was jogging, too). Or you may want to just keep up on the elliptical (great crosstraining for jogging!) and wait until you're a little lighter so it won't be so hard on your joints. My mom is still freaking out that I'm jogging. She's an RN and she says it's not "natural" for the human body to run for extended periods of time -- Right, mom, but it's perfectly "natural" to weigh 2 times more than I should? Crazy woman.
