Hi Everyone, I love this group I really do but I have too much going on with my health right now to be committed to it the way I want to be. I can't exercise the way I want to, I have awful lower back pain and pelvic pain. So, I am going to take a break from the group until the doctors find out what is wrong with me, but I am not quiting MFP, I will still log my calories and try to find some way to exercise. I will be back when things settle down. Good luck to all of you and your weight loss journeys.
I have the Leslie Sansone videos, I totally forgot about them!!!!!!!!! I will have to get them out and see if I can do those. I have an exercise bike but that totally hurts my lower back and my pelvic area, so I will stay away from that right now. Thanks Awestfall for all the very nice and encouraging words.0 -
momoftwo, I am glad you are staying with us! I understand your frustration with not being able to exercise. I have huge limits on my exercise, not for the same reasons as you, but I do know how it feels to think you are defeated. I felt that way constantly. Talking to your doctor is the best thing to do. For instance, my doctors told me I could only bike or swim for right now, due to the extreme pressure on my knees. It sucked to hear that, but hey, they know better than me, so listen to what your docs tell you. And if exercise is out for right now, then exercise is out for right now. That's perfectly OK. But please don't give up. You can do it no matter what the circumstances! :flowerforyou:
Well, today was not the best day on record, gals. Last day of school - every class had their holiday party, I teach every class. You do the math. Yeup, I ate those damn sweets. BUT....I only ate two cupcakes. I had five cupcakes, five cookies, one piece of lemon loaf, two chocolate santas, one chocolate hanukah coin, and about twenty candy canes on my desk by 2:00pm. I caved and ate two cupcakes, then got nervous because weigh-in is tomorrow, and gave away the rest. What I couldn't give away I threw away. So, although I did cave, it could have been A LOT WORSE!!! :noway:
Oh, the perils of teaching 250 students!!!
check in:
cals: a bit over, but only a few hundred
water: all 64
exercise: 40 mins bike once I log off
proud: that I only ate two cupcakes ??? :frown:
Thanks so much Zorahope for all the encouragement. I really appreciate it so much.0 -
jib - did your knees hurt at all before you started the couch25k, my knees aren't the great, when i walk my ankles and knees hurt. I was thinking i would like to try but if you didn't have problems before and now you did, can just imagine how mine will be. .. They seem to do okay on the elliptical..
When I was approaching my heaviest, yes, absolutely my knees hurt. Ankles, too. That was one of my breaking points. I realized I was intentionally avoiding doing things (like getting up off the couch to get a drink of water or going to the copier at work) because my knees hurt. But after I lost a few pounds, they stopped hurting. If you wanted to start trying, maybe just take it really easy and only jog 1-2 days a week. Mine started hurting because I was trying to jog too often and I was walking briskly for exercise on the days I wasn't jogging (and on the days I was jogging, too). Or you may want to just keep up on the elliptical (great crosstraining for jogging!) and wait until you're a little lighter so it won't be so hard on your joints. My mom is still freaking out that I'm jogging. She's an RN and she says it's not "natural" for the human body to run for extended periods of time -- Right, mom, but it's perfectly "natural" to weigh 2 times more than I should? Crazy woman.
Thanks Jib - I can tell you that my knee does feel better than it did 20 lbs ago ....it still hurts but before i barely could walk up the stairs cause it hurt soo bad, it still hurts and crackles , but getting better. I may stick to the elliptical until i get a little lighter maybe by the time spring comes and it is nice outside i will be lighter and maybe can start. I was thinking of getting a treadmill but hubby said he doesn't like it cause he has such a big stride...we will see we don't have any money for one now anyway.
I am soo excited I am off tomorrow....my 3 yr old going back to day care i hope she is good all day, she didn't run a fever all day....she was coughing some but acting like herself again...so hope i don't get a call or anything. I have a busy day planned0 -
MOMOFTWO29: Sorry to learn of your back pain. My husband had back surgery about 4 years ago and it has been the greatest blessing to us. However he is very limited as to what exercise agrees with him. Right after surgery he swam but the pool hours didn't work well with our schedule. After a while he found the an elliptical agrees with his back and fortunately he has access to one at work. I am really interested to try one sometime. He was referred to a neurosurgeon vs. an orthopedic surgeon and he is doing well. Sure hope you can get the medical help to give you relief, I am truly sorry for your suffering. I had a very LOW pain tolerance and therefore I make a horrible patient. One thing that distracts me from stress or when I want to snack I log on here and post and spent time looking and before and after successes. That helps me want to try harder. Hope this my encourage you. May you be blessed with relief.
My oldest is home from college and boy I have lost my routine. I don't get to catch up near as often. Anxious to see what the scales have to say at weigh in tomorrow. Have a good evening everyone.
Calories: yes 1389
Exercise: yes
Water: all most
Proud: That I have been very consistant on my goals.0 -
debbie, I tried the couch25k when I was around your weight, and I found it really difficult. It was hard on my knees and I had trouble breathing when I did the running. Instead I did lots of walking to get my knees used to the exercise, and just started doing the couch25k again about 3 weeks ago. It is so much easier now that I have been working out longer, and have lost some more weight.0
-
Jenn -THat is good to know...you started out right where i did...figure just keep what I am doing and little more every week.
Figure I do more exercise now than i could 2 months ago....hopefully 2 more months from now i can do even more
Cals - Went over, but under my exercise calories.
Water - under
Exercise - 25 minutes
Proud - I worked out even thought i didn't want to...I wanted to quit like at 10 minutes but stick it out 25 min0 -
Hey Girls, quick check in .. My little man did well. He was quite upset when he found out he no longer had front teeth Made me sad but he will be fine. See ya all soon.
Welcome Sassiebritches.:flowerforyou:0 -
Hi girls. I feel so much better today, thanks for all the support! Hi Sassie!
12-17-09
Calories: Right on!
Water: Yep!
Exersice: 30 minutes eliptical, burned 500 calories or so. Then did weights for 30 minutes.
Proud: That I worked out and avoided fast food and cookies, even though my skinny friend was set on it. Subway instead! I also managed to eat a low calorie lunch even though mostly unhealthy things were provided by work. Chicken chili from atlanta bread is great and its not that unhealthy either. Yum!
I feel great! No impact on my shins, and a great workout that made me sweat. I'm going to keep doing that. Still all the advice has been really helpful and I'm glad I discovered the elliptical thanks to you guys. Its so much better cardio for me than jumping around or jogging or even walking. Woo! Now if only I can keep it up atleast 3 days a week... *sigh*0 -
Thanks Colorado Cutie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well lets see
Cals - 1780.....over cals by almost 300, feeling ok about that.....just getting started again....much better then it used to be.
Water - Drank a ton....happy with this, was so busy at school I only peed between clients 2 times....maybe I lie...3 times
Exercise - zip today, was on my feet ALLDAY doin' hair
Proud - That while all the teenie girls ate Micky D's and junk food, I stuck to what I brought to eat and snacked on MY healthy foods, and stayed within my cals.
I just moved so finding my scale this week amongst the boxes might be tough.
The GAZELLE, I have had mine for a while and the last time that I lost weight I used it daily for 10 mins, then 20 mins, then 30 mins and so on....MY FEET ALWAYS killed me. Its a flaw in the design, but for me it was the BEST cardio for my joints. I required no impact and once i used it for a while I actually was able to jog on the ground fpr a bit without pain. Whenever I would get a cramp in my feet or that wierd ache I would pop off it and stretch my legs and feet and calves, or I would turn around on it and do it the other way, seemed to help. Good luck with that, i need to get mine out....but again, after I make room in this house of cardboard boxes that is my hell right now :P
ok all, there are alot of updates here to read, so I am gonna go through them and I will touch base tomorrow.
Hang in there ya'll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!0 -
my weigh in was a wash this morning
No weight loss this week...i was soo hopefull that I would be under 290 this morning. I was under earlier this week so I am sure that it is water weight ....0 -

I am also having a lot of pelvic pain, they think I have endometriosis, so that has been bugging me as well as the back pain, so I understand the back pain is also the result of that. It makes it very hard to want to do anything but I am trying to find some exerxcise that does not make me hurt worse. The only way they can diagnose the endometriosis is to do a surgical procdure. it can't be seen by ultrasound, they did an ultrasound on my yesterday to rule out other things(cancer, ovarian cysts, etc.). They said if the ultrasound did not show anything that they are going to send me to an OBGYN to see if they want to go forth with the surgical procedure. I just know that something has to be done. I also have a very low tollerance for pain. I have 2 kids but with both of them I was screaming I want an epidural, I don't know how in the world someone could give birth without one. NOT ME!!!!!!! Thank you so much for your very kind words and encouragement. I need it. I have been struggling. I have been on MFP since January 1st and I had lost 52 pounds but as you see I have gained some back, however though I am not going to give up and quit. I have come too far to go back to 292 pounds, that is where I started at. :flowerforyou:0 -

Exercise: 30 minutes stationary bike, couch25k WEEK 4 DAY 1!!! (and omg, it was hard)
Water: over 90oz
Proud: Proud I ran 5 minutes straight. I was really about to die after about 4, but I pushed myself really hard. Maybe too hard, but I simply refused to be defeated by the fact that I couldn't breathe. :laugh:0 -

The scale was good to me this morning. 230.2 which is down 3.4 pounds from last Friday. Wish I could've had 0.2 more to meet my 01/01/10 goal, but I'll make it within the next couple of days. That more aggressive goal of 225 actually seems possible now.
jlb123: -1.46%
It's interesting to me that I lost so much this week since it's been cookie-fest 2009 at my house all week. I upped my calories by about 100-150 a day, so maybe my body is more comfortable losing weight with me consuming that than trying to consume just 1200. Or maybe it's just a fluke. Either way, I'll take it.0 -
Welcome to the new gals!
Momma2four: Somehow I missed what was going on with your son. Why were his teeth taken out surgically? I'm sure that was stressful for you. Sorry
lildebbie: These fluctuations are normal. I know it is disappointing not to see the ticker move. Keep up the good choices on healthy calories and your exercise and it will happen for you. You can do this girl!
Christmas is one week from today. It feels exciting, I'm just a much bigger kid. I plan on a weigh-in on Christmas day to keep me accountable. Is everyone else in? It is possible to loose through the holidays. I am living proof! It is just as big of a surprise to me as well.:noway: Someday those extra calories call our name but when we don't give in, the more easily it becomes a lifestyle that we no longer need to sustain.

Also, I'm going to rant a little bit and it's going to be way tmi.
I hate TOM. It ruins every single vacation I have from work. Every. Single. One. I don't understand how it's possible. I was off November 7-11th. Guess when TOM showed up! November 6th. Yep. Then, I was off November 26-29. Guess when TOM showed up. November 25, just 18 days after it showed up the time before. Now, it's December 18, 23 days after last time. WHERE IS TOM? Apparently TOM's planning to be fashionably late (I normally have a much shorter cycle than 28 days - lucky me) in order to ruin Christmas, too. It's just ridiculous! :ohwell:0 -

Good Morning, I should not be on here right now but I can't stand to be away from my girls. So here is a quick update. Third week in a row with a 0 weight loss. I have to get back on the wagon.
Snowflakes, Thanks for the concern for my son. He is 4 years old and he would not sit still to do dental work. One of his front teeth had and absess which can be dangerous and the only way to fix it is remove the teeth. So the one next to it was removed as well. He has a speech/language delay, which means he not only has problems with speech, but understanding of language as well. So I tried to explain that his 2 front teeth were going to be gone when he woke up. Well when he woke up he was quite upset because he did not understand. I felt really bad. He is sooooooooo cute with his 2 front teeth gone and I am not just saying that cause he is mine:blushing:

This might be none of my business, but have you talked to your gynocologist(spelling) Because that seems too often especially for a girl as young as you are. Hope I did not over step my boundries, but I think you should go and see your doctor. At the very least some sort of birthcontrol pill could make it more regular assumeing you are not allergic or anything.0 -
First the good news! 203lbs - down a pound! .49%!!!
Calories - OVER
Water - 8 mugs of green tea
Exercise - None
Proud - Can I say I'm proud of something that isn't diet related? I had a run in with my boss this morning that would normally leave me in tears and I DIDN'T CRY!!! I didn't even get very upset (which really has him mad now). Right after our tiff we had a ten AM meeting with the big wigs and he tried to throw me under the buss and he looked like a jerk! The CIO said "Jason, I don't know what you see but it looks to me like Melinda has gone above and beyond on this audit!" - ohhhh I wanted to kiss her! YAY!!!!
Now about those calories. Last night we had our Christmas party for our friends, and pretty much EVERYONE came over! My sister and her wife (still getting used to typing that!) came up from about 2 hours away - other friends came in from further... it was GREAT but kinda unexpected that they would ALL decide to come up on a Thursday night! My DH ran out and bought two more roasts and some pre-made mashed potatoes before I got home, but I still had to assemble three beef wellingtons (and I'd never made one before!) and make a few side dishes so people didn't sit down for the meal until TEN Yikes!
I'd budgeted plenty for wine and a half cup of the beef wellington - and I did manage to only have a bite or two of the rosemary bread while everyone was eating appetizers and visiting - but when we served the meal I totally ate a full portion of mashed potatoes, buttered corn and the beef wellington. THEN a friend served her homemade new york style peppermint cheesecake!
Oops.1600 calories over for yesterday Today I'm going out for lunch with friends but at least we all order the same eggplant dish which isn't too bad calorie wise!
Thanks for reading this far! I 'm sure the pound I lost is just some dehydration from the wine I drank last night- but I didn't weigh myself until I'd had two glasses of tea this morning :-D0 -
0% weight loss this week. I weigh 0.4 more than I did last friday. I feel like crying today. I worked as hard as I could and this is just slapping me in the face. I dont understand what I'm doing wrong.0

You're not doing anything wrong, you just have to keep it up.
When you first start exercising more than you have been in the past, you muscles retain water. If you keep it up, they eventually adjust and release the water. Right now, you're retaining water. It's not a big deal -- don't stress out about it.
The reality check: Do you honestly think eating well and exercising could be bad for you? If you allow yourself to get really discouraged & quit, where exactly is that going to take you? Right back where you started.
Focus on the positive here -- you're exercising, have you noticed your stamina improving? That's a good thing. That's a healthy thing.
Buy a tape measure & take your measurements. You'll be glad you did later. Trust me.
One more thing I have to recommend to you is to watch your sodium intake. Keep it under 2000mg a day. That will help with water retention, too. I kind of hit a wall a few weeks ago and ever since I started really paying attention to my sodium intake, the weight has started coming off again -- and quickly.0 -
Boy, it's a nasty day in South Carolina. 30*F wind chill and RAINING (the actual temp is 36*F). Awful stuff. If I'm going to be this cold, there really needs to be some snow involved.
I was washing my hands in the restroom earlier and I looked at myself in the mirror (I can only see my face in my mirror at home) and realized I'm actually starting to find myself attractive again. And then I was startled by a coworker coming in, and how does she greet me? "Hey, cute girl!" Then, she said her daughter wondered what I was doing to lose weight (I've met her daughter once, but it was last year)... so that means, she was telling her daughter about me losing weight. I don't know exactly why I was so happy about that, but I guess it's that kind of reaffirms to me that people really do see a difference in me - so much so they're telling other people about it. That means they're not just saying "You look good" or asking me about how much weight I've lost just because they heard I was trying and they're just trying to be nice or something like that.0 -

I think you just captured one of the best moments in this entire process- it's not just that others recognize the change, it's when we get to catch a glimpse of ourselves in the mirror that makes this so amazing. :flowerforyou:
AWESOME!!!0 -

That is awsome...
I was going to take my measurements this morning thinking maybe if i didn't loose anyweight in 2 weeks that i lost some inches just hadn't gotten around to it. I know it will come i just got to keep at it.
I just got back form running errands i am pooped...been gone since 9 am and now after 2. I didn't eat breakfast cause i needed to get going..bad mistake...i started getting starving about 11...I finally stopped and got someting...I went to chic fila , i was going to get one of the crispy chicken sandwiches wiht fries...then i told my self you do have a little more cals since no breakfast but lets do one othe other, so i did the grilled chicken and fries. It was more than my normal lunch about 600 cals, but it was kinda my breakfast and lunch together.
I made a point to get some lean meat at walmart so we can make sprial and meatballs (yummy recipe from biggest loser cookbook) tonight instead of saying we don't have anything lets go out (which I don't need diet wise of $$ wise).
I got a lot of my christmas shopping done (or at least what i need done for next week) i have christmas in phases, i am holding off on buying presents for hubby side until we go up there which won't be until like the 2nd or 3rd week in jan...anyway...off to wrapping now.0 -

I am going to have to agree with Momma. I think you need to visit your OBGYN. Make sure you tell him/her your food and exercise routine. And jlb, I am so happy for you that you are finally seeing results. That is so important for staying on the wagon!0
