You guys are mental. Or possibly from the stone age. I work in a large corporate office (at the headquarter location no less) for a national bank. I have never worn pantyhose here, let alone for my interview.

    ^^ I'm with her.
  • How are you supposed to wear pantyhose and flip flops at the same time? Or do they make pantyhose now with the big toe separate?

You may be joking, but they do make pantyhose to be worn with open-toed shoes...

LOL -- If I were interviewing someone and she crossed her legs and I saw knee highs, the interview would be over due to poor judgment! ;c)

If the skirt reaches her ankles, you won't see them. Obviously, you wouldn't wear them with a skirt that allowed them to be seen.

If the skirt reaches her ankles, it's too long.

That was fun. Now back to work... sans pantyhose.

I do not work in the corporate world, so I would have no clue...BUT, I would freak out if I had to wear pantyhose. Not sure if it is because I live in the hot south or because I am claustrophobic, but they literally drive me CRAZY!!! I do not even wear them to church...and honestly I can not think of the last time I wore them.

Luckily, I have nice legs and nice skin, so no one really knows if I have on pantyhose. But, I do agree with everyone about it is best to be over dressed. My husband is a professor, and that is his motto, it is best to be overdressed than under dressed (when you are not sure)

I guess you should tell my boss that, since I wore an ankle-length skirt to interview for my current job and the offer was basically made in the elevator on the way out.

    But what do I know?

Unless you live in very hot climate (like Miami) then YES, YES YES - wear pantyhose. The interview will be in A/C and you can rip them off in the car after. But always dress up for an interview and if wearing a skirt - wear pantyhose!!

    People still wear pantyhose????

^^^THIS^^^ At what office do women still wear panty hose??? Maybe the 50+ers, but no one else. We're in a very different age. I mean what's the purpose? So no one sees your legs??? Yeah I'm certain that 1/1000000th of an inch sheer material is keeping your legs from being exposed.
  • OP, I am sure you love the back and forth from all the ladies on the pantyhose issue.

My advice to you is to go with the suggestion from a recruiter. They receive feedback on a daily basis from managers regarding what they liked and disliked about a candidate.

It is easy for women already working in corporate america to give their opinion based on what is acceptable in their job. Chances are their company has a more professional dress code policy that their managers just don't enforce.

Yes, my comment about flip flops was a joke. It is my example of something that is against dress code at my company but worn by a lot of women.

Your interview is not the time to test the waters as to what is acceptible attire. It might make the difference on whether you get the job or not.

Lol-I dont wear pantyose, im 20, and never have. But I think the purpose is for those with imperfections on their legs, varicose veins, spots, ceullulite? in that case, pantyhose would be a better option.

I hate pantyhose and there is only one time I will wear it. For an interview. And I work in the finance department. Finance people are uptight, *****y little girls (to quote Sam Axe) so pony up and wear the IBM suit, complete with pantyhose. You can show off the tatts after you have the job and have amazed them with your skills.

    Exactly.

I have never not worn pantyhose to an interview and I have never not been offered a job for which I interviewed. Perhaps the pantyhose were the thing that set me above other candidates.
  • Most businesses have pantyhose right in their dress code. So I would err on the side of caution and wear them to the interview then when you get hired, review their dress code.

I would definitely wear hose...always dress better than you think you might need to..it's better to dress up than down for an interview...if you get the job you can always adjust your wardrobe later. good luck.
  • Doesn't matter what the climate is, professional dress is professional dress. Wear the pantyhose and good luck!

I am actually getting really offended by these posts about pantyhose. (Tights where I come from)

I wear them all the time :c

Wear the hose, the Duchess has made them more popular than ever in fashion never mind interviews for a finance office. Plus, you can look like you still have a nice summer tan with zero effort (except for pulling them up! lol)

Exactly my thoughts! I work in a conservative office but I NEVER wear pantyhose. The word alone gives me the shivers. I'll wear tights (colored or black or patterned) in the winter so my legs don't freeze, but I think pantyhose are totally gross. Perhaps I need to rethink my position on them though since it seems that the overwhelming consensus in this thread is that they should be worn. *shrugs*
  • Yes, always wear hose to an interview. Wear only light/flesh toned hose, dark hose are for night or business casual only.

Yes!! Right or wrong when you are going for an interview you don't want to give anyone reason not to hire you. Even though it may sound silly and ridiculous if you and another candidate are equally qualified and both speak/interview well what else do they have to go on but the way your presented yourself. For the most sophisticated polished look wear the pantyhose. If you get the job you'll know if the other women wear pantyhouse quick enough. I now live in Florida but I wore pantyhose whenever I wore a skirt or dress from beginning of fall to end of spring (depending on the type of office dress code you may get away with not wearing hose during the summer). Now that I live in Florida practically no one wears hose unless there is a big official meeting going on or you are interviewing.
  • I work in a large upscale law firm and most of the women do not wear pantyhose. But maybe finance is a whole different story.

Errr.. I thought pantyhose were tights?
    What are they then?!
  • I work in corporate finance and it largely depends on what department you would be working in, but in the main I would say yes err on the side of caution and wear the tights unless you would feel uncomfortable and fidget then I would go with trousers.

Having been the interviewer on numerous occasions - it is something that you notice!

Someone once told me to go to an interview wearing an outfit suitable to the role above the one you are applying for. It has worked for me!
