What if your daughter's boyfriend did this?

I've googled how to make meth before, and I'm a law-abiding mother of five, because I was suspicious of one of our neighbours odd purchases. Turns out I was right...0
-
How do you know it was him and not your daughter or someone else?0
-
They'd no longer be dating because he is stupid. Stupid for researching it, but more stupid for doing it on my computer.
He's stupid for research? Stupid for literally trying to know something? Lord help us all.
Don't cha know that der' book lurnin' lead's to nuttin good?0 -
It's not about "looking up random *kitten*". It's about my daughter's boyfriend looking up something like that in my home on my computer. It's disrespectful and done using poor judgement. There is much more to think about in his actions than just WHAT he was looking up.0

I'd be searching for a remote spot to dump the body...0

There's a huge difference between just researching something for 5 minutes on a single occasion because you're morbidly curious or doing genuine research, and looking for it multiple times at length.
If he's looking into it at length, it's not a casual fascination. Don't play around with this. Confront him so he knows that you know, at least.0 -
I have a .45 and a shovel, doubt he would be missed....
Not joking.0 -
Who doesn't password protect their computers nowadays?
Stop letting a stupid kid use your gear. Let him google stuff on his own computer. Problem solved0 -

Of course it was done using poor judgement -- he's a teenager! I understand your concern, but unless one of us is secretly him ( :glasses: ) or has supernatural powers in order to know why he looked meth up, asking him is probably a lot more efficient than asking us.0 -

Um, but there is nothing wrong with looking that up if he was just curious.I don't get why it's disrespectful or using poor judgement, assuming he had permission to use the computer. It's not like it's kiddie porn or something. He was curious about a how to make meth, he looked up how to do it. Unless you think he's actually making it, you're getting uptight for the sake of getting uptight and you should probably knock it off.0 -
I would show him my collection of hand-guns and pay close attention to the sweat beading on his forehead.0

Maybe he is just a fan of Breaking Bad.0

I always find responses like this to be counter-productive and honestly kind of upsetting. Here, there are people talking about why a teenage boy would be looking up how to make meth on a computer - does it mean he is really interested in making meth, or simply curious?
What if the boy's parents saw your response, or any other one threatening bodily harm, and took it a serious threat? Wouldn't it sort of be the same thing? I'm not saying OP's daughter's boyfriend didn't use poor judgment, because he definitely did, but responses like this are hypocritical and over-the-top.0 -
A lot of people here are sad and scary individuals. Jumping to conclusions only makes you look stupid.
1) We don't know if it was actually the boyfriend at all.
2) We don't know what the reasoning behind the search is.
3) We don't know what kind of person the boyfriend is.
4) We don't have any background or history of the OP, boyfriend, and daughter.
As such, the best coarse of action would be to simply ask the boyfriend and daughter about it and keep an eye on things. Anything else contains too many assumptions... and you know what they say about assuming things.0 -
I can't believe some of you, honestly. Researching how to make illegal drugs is okay in your books?0

This. How do you know it was her boyfriend?
I would speak with your daughter first - not in an accusatory fashion - just out of concern. You are not his mother, but you do have a responsibility to your daughter so start there first.0 -
Does he watch breaking bad?
My hubby and I googled "making meth" after an episode because we had some questions.0 -

A million times THIS. I google all kinds of things, curiosity is a good thing. Unless there is a reason to suspect that the boyfriend is actually making meth, this is not something to really worry about.0 -
talk to him and your daughter. Keep an eye open, investigate the signs of meth us0
-
I would talk to both together, and tell them I don't appreciate his "research" or his using my computer. I would also talk to my daughter alone, and try to reason with her.0

Buy an RV, head down to KFC or Popeyes and see if the owner is really a drug kingpin looking for a new cook.0
