They'd no longer be dating because he is stupid. Stupid for researching it, but more stupid for doing it on my computer.

cause he hates being the only one watching Breaking Bad that keeps having to use google to understand the plot?

cause his buddy told him it comes from cough medicine and he wanted to see if he could call him a retard without being wrong?

cause boys look up weird sht on the internet like pedo jokes, how to build a bomb, dogs pooping on babies, nut shots and where does meth come from?

There's a reaction for making meth is in my organic chemistry textbook. Fascinating stuff. Perhaps it was informative research??

I have found out that he has been using my computer to find sites on information on how to make meth. Not sure if he is actually doing this but why else would he be looking up the info?

It depends. How well do you know him?

People look up stupid stuff on the internet all the time. Was this just a one time search, or has he been really searching?

If he's generally a good kid and this was just a one time thing, I'd ignore it. However, I would pay attention to things being said and people they hang out with -- just to be sure.

If I really thought he was making meth, I'd talk to his parents. Then to the police, only if his parents were unwilling/unable to put an end to it.

No one just looks up how to make it for sh*ts and giggles. You need to confront him now and quick. Does he watch the show Breaking Bad? Do not let your daughter date a Meth head or dealer. They just Spell Trouble M-E-T-H Trouble

I would ask him what he found out and why he looked it up THEN beat him to a pulp.
  • Don't jump to conclusions.

If anyone looked at my search history, they would see all sorts of things from "how to inject heroin" to "how drag queens tuck". Doesn't mean that I'm doing any of those things. Sometimes people are just curious and like to learn things. I once spent an entire night researching hammocks. Hammocks. When the internet has the answers to everything, why not learn?

But still keep a close eye on things, of course. Be suspicious, but not overly so.

(By the way, the injecting heroin thing? I was writing a story. A character was using heroin. I barely even mentioned the actual injection part, I just wanted to get all of my information correct so I didn't have anything wrong. Hey! Maybe the boyfriend is writing a story about a character with a meth lab! ...Anything is possible.)

For LOOKING up info? Nothing. Personally I have a very very curious mind and I lookup all kinds of topics. I know how to use almost every kind of drugs out there. Yet I have never taken any kind of illegal drugs in my life. Heck watching a show called "breaking bad" where the characters cook meth would make one try and research more about cooking meth. Curious mind knows no reason.

But I think you're in the right to be alarmed. Look into it a bit more further. Its your kid, ethics be damned. Keep a close eye on the boy.

    Good luck

I would tell him if he is too stupid to cover his tracks on a computer without getting caught he is too stupid to cook meth.

That's absurd. LOTS of people have looked it up for "sh*ts and giggles."

My daughter just turned 3. About a year and a half ago she promised me that whe wouldn't date until she was 25, so I don't have to worry about it for 22 more years.

I want to say that it may not be a big deal at this point. I know about a lot of things that I personally find bad or offensive. Sometimes something strange fires my curiosity and I have to find out. BUT, I grew up in an area that had a real bad meth issue and I was a floor manager for a while in a factory on the third shift and had a couple of employees that are disfigured from meth explosions. It gains my attention whenever someone is looking into meth, especially when they aren't comfortable enough to do the research on their own computer.

For now I agree with the above in that you need to keep your eyes open and watch him. I can't say that I know what I would do with my daughter. It is way too easy to make a mistake (or simply wrong place/wrong time) as a young person and have it stick with you your entire life, but I don't know how well banning him from her life would work.

I would think it would be pretty easy to tell if he was using meth.

People can look up whatever they want online.

But when you're dating my daughter and using my computer to research illegal activities...

Yeah, we got a big problem.

Errrrr.... My Husband would probably threaten him with his shotgun but I think that you need to confront him on this. It's on YOUR computer and it's illegal stuff. Some kids are just interested. I know I've watched more than one doco on drugs and whatnot but it was more so I could show my kids the devastating effects. Perhaps that's what he needs, to sit and watch what happens to people when they're on that stuff. If he's looking to make a quick $ and doesn't give a rat's tail about anyone else then i'd be making sure your daughter was no longer dating him.

need more info...I know how to make Meth. I was taught in college by a police officer....in class. Step by step. It was so we could recongize our surroundings and be able to be aware if this was going on. could be innocent or could be criminal.

I guess it depends on the situation. I guess the only reason I can possibly justify doing this kind of research is if you're doing it for a school project or something. Either you want to know how to do it, or you're trying to research how easy it is find the information.

The same could be said for looking up child porn or something. In either case, I'd want to verify with the instructor about the particulars of the assignment because it would have be a very carefully crafted assignment for such potentially damaging material.

Even if that best case scenario somehow turned out to be true, I'd have a long chat with him about asking permission to use someone's computer for that kind of research before doing it.
