Also just out of curiousity I want to know who eats there exercise calories and who doesn't.I am just comparing weight loss with those who do and those who don't.I find that I lose better if I don't eat mine.My doctor told me not to eat them anyways .So I am just curious how many of you do and how many don't and what your opinion of the subject is.

I usually try not to eat mine. If I do I will eat no more then half. It feels coutner productive to me. But then again I haven't seen any numbers here in the last 2 1/2 weeks. Just bouncing around with these 3 stinking pounds! The way I see it is if you are hungry eat something, something healthy that is. If you aren't, don't eat.

Wow, I am loving all of the successes you ladies have posted today. Very inspiring! I have always hated running and jogging. I absolutely detest them both! :noway: I have always had bad knees since about the seventh grade when I played soccer and my right knee popped out of socket. Running KILLS my knees, so sadly I will never be able to relate to you c25K-ers! And cris, I did the EXACT same thing in high school - hid behind a big ole bush until the girls came around for their last lap and then got out and joined them!

lstpaul - please take care of that back! It's the only one you get! I am praying for you.
awestfall - I eat about half of my exercise cals. I found that the more I eat, the more I lose. Sounds weird, but it's true! Now, of course, I get a zillion cals because of my huge weight, so when I get down to where you girls are, I'll probably be re-thinking my strategy. :ohwell: Wow, I said "when" I get down....

    check in:
cals: 25 under, INCL. ex cals - I ate out twice today! Ooofta!
    water: great
exercise: my usual (40 bike, etc.)
proud: I danced even longer with my students today! Only two more days and it's show time!!! :glasses:

    checking in for tonight 3/16/10:
calories- under by a lot....dunno what happened
    water- yes
    sodium- 1600
excercise- situps, did 210! Maxed out at 108!!! woohoo!
proud- that I pushed myself to keep doing situps, and I did a lot of errands today and I opted for the further parking spots so I could get some walking in!

awestfall- I do not eat my excercise calories and I only work out hardcore (run/bike) 3 times a week. The other days I do sit ups which is less than 15 minw and the weekend I dont do anything besides chase my 1yr old and hang out with the familt

I am not ready to do this on my own yet either, you guys keep me in line because I feel accountable to you and you understand my trouble with weight a lot better than anyone else in my life because no one I know has an eating problem.

    Watching Biggest Loser! Good night!

LilDebbie - hope your little one feels better soon! The pediatrician I work with would say 'lots of fluids and rest, and a little fresh air helps!'

Awestfall- I eat most of my exercise calories - after I work out HARD I'm soooo hungry. I am less worried about weight loss on a given week than I am on weight lost over a month - so far I've been doing fine although this month I've been way over in calories most days and I'm not doing well (shock!).

    Checking in!
Calories- Ate about 2/3 my exercise calories (better than expected)
    Water - just !
Exercise - 5K101 Week 1 Day 2 and a 45 minute walk at lunch WHOOT!

Proud - that even though I was late going - I still made it to the gym - did my 5k101 and walked at lunch!

Going to bed NOW so I can get to the gym for the 6:15 Spinning class!!!

    Evening

    check in for today
    calories : under 1100. I had a weird schedule
    water : 100oz
exercise : walking 25 mins and sit ups all 302 of them

lil Debbie - I hope your little one feels better soon. It breaks my heart when kids are sick

Awestfall - wow. I am so impressed that you can run so much. I know I couldn't do that right now. Keep up the good work girl !!:drinker: I eat 1/2 to 3/4 of my exercise calories generally. But that is on average. I tend to either be dying to eat more or disinterested.

Blue - great job with the dancing. :flowerforyou:

Hajohnson - too bad it's just coffee. I was interested to know what caribou tastes like. So exotic.

I'm curious to know if you ladies experience the following .....

When I have pms, Approx 2 days before TOM. I am just ravenous. I can't get enough food and will eat anything in sight.
When I am ovulating I am a lot less hungry and just not as interested in eating.

Is it the same for you? Does anyone know why?
I suppose I was like this before I started dieting but never noticed before because I was just eating whatever I felt like.

late night snacking: a medium apple, 1/2 a small navel orange, and a big cup of water

Jlb: I'd definitely recommend recalculating your calories if your weight loss in stalling. I find it helps me, but mine is more mental because knowing I could eat more calories actually makes me eat less...weird.

Momma2four: It's great that your daughter enjoys running so much. Hopefully she'll continue that beyond high school and college!

Awestfall: You're a superstar! Running for an hour straight? I definitely can't do that yet!

Meokk: I'll work on trying some actual caribou sometime and let you know how it is. Like I said, they do have it as a menu choice at Cabela's (outdoors store). I've had wild boar sandwich and buffalo brat there so far. Both were pretty good!

Positively: I just did a quick search and found that 1 cup of roasted, in shell peanuts (edible yield) are 305 calories, assuming you don't eat the shell!

    Checking in for yesterday:
    Calories: 581 left over
Sodium: Over by 184, but this is a huge accomplishment!
    Water: 32 oz.
Exercise: None (meeting until 8pm, then preparing taxes)
Proud: That I didn't do any snacking at 9pm when it crossed my mind.

All it took was two days of a calorie deficit and I'm back down to my 192.6 which I haven't seen since February 26th. Now I can work on moving the scale down again! I didn't meet my St. Patty's Day goal, so I'll have to reevaluate my goals again.

Tonight I'm getting my taxes done and plan on walking there, as it is only a few blocks away. Then, I'll do my workout after that. I'm thinking I'm ready for Jillian again tonight!

mstahl - I'm having the same trouble getting up in the mornings. My problem is also getting to bed on time. Last night, I went to sleep at 3 FREAKING AM. Even if I don't work out, I have to get up by 7.30 to make it to work in the boonies by 8.30. What's wrong with me?! :noway: :grumble:

awestfall - I've been eating close to 50% of my exercise calories since the beginning of Feb. I don't always make it to 50% because... well, because that's sometimes like 500-600 extra calories and I've got a mental block about it. But most days, my exercise calories are arond 400-600 so I eat close to 1400 calories those days. Gotta tell you, I'm feeling better and I'm able to train harder which is real motivation for me. When I was dropping weight so fast before I was eating very close to 1200 cals. But that stopped working for me -- my body made it *very* clear to me that wasn't enough to run on anymore so I listened. Now I think it's trying to tell me to eat even MORE which I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around but I'm going to give it a shot for the next month or so. I changed my goals to lose 1.5 pounds a week instead of 2 which gave me 150 extra base calories. Then I'm going to try to eat 50% of my exercise calories on top of that. So, basically on days I exercise I'll be eating closer to 1500-1600 calories (OMG). I don't really expect to lose weight this week between increasing my calories and not exercising nearly as much as usual since I had company.... and can't forget about the curry, and the sandwich from Beezer's, and those 3 pints of beer... and that slice of pizza I ate last night.
I think I've told you all many times that I've never been able to get my weight any lower than this before (ha -- "low"). 5 years ago I was eating 1400 calories a day and walking for exercise and I could not get under 210 for the life of me. I had gone from about 250 to very near 210 in 4 months and just got stuck there. I gave up (not going to happen this time because I'm going about it a totally different & more healthy way) & proceeded to gain 60 pounds. :noway:

meokk -- as far as TOM/ovulation goes, I'm too busy being a b**** to be ravenous. Hormones really get the best of me. I don't get many cravings or anything (that I notice) except for the first day or 2 of TOM -- then I usually have the typical chocolate & salty cravings. I also get really bloated with both TOM and ovulation, so between the bloating and the irritability, I'm waaaaaayyyy to busy to be hungry.

    03.16.10
Calories: 1359. Didn't make it to eating 50% of my cals. I had plans to, but they were waylaid.
    Exercise: 35 minute brisk walk
    Water:80oz+
Proud: Didn't get up in time to work out before work so I grabbed my old shoes & made myself go for a walk at lunch.

Cris ... congrats on the scale showing 220 ... I can't WAIT to get there! I haven't seen that number since 1996. (oh ... and I WILL get those measurements done ... I just keep forgetting when I'm at home - I do most of my logging on MFP from work (don't tell - personal web sites are supposed to be blocked but they haven't blocked this one yet))

awestfall - I think I do best when I'm eating about 1/2 of my exercise calories - but I haven't been able to do that for awhile - I've been eating them all and not losing

Meokk ... I too am ravenous just before my period ... craving greasy, greasy foods. I do notice that I almost always lose weight that week even if I give into my cravings ... probably some water weight - but I also think my metabolism is a bit revved up and that is also why I'm so hungry ... but it's just a theory.

Thanks for the concern about my back injury ... it's still not great today but seems a bit better? hard to tell. I was up probably 6 times during the night because I didn't sleep well and when I got up this morning my back was horrible ... but seemed to get better as I moved around. I'm going to try to get up more often from my desk today and walk a bit to keep it stretched out (which I should do more often anyhow). I'm skipping turbo kick tonight because that seems like a really bad idea with a sore back, - I will try taking a slow and easy walk to get my son after school....but I really don't want to miss my step class in the morning - we'll see.

    checking in for yesterday:
calories: ok ... just barely went over, but did eat all my exercise calories ...
exercise: good - an hour of step at the Y
water: pretty good ... right at 64oz
proud: that I threw away my lunch when I got full and didn't snack as much as I have been lately

Good Morning Girls, Just got back from dropping my car load of kids dressed in green. So cute. I love having all these kids they keep me young.

meokk, I get ravenous a day or 2 before my period and want to eat everything in sight. Not really noticing anything when I ovulate except for maybe that my hubby looks awfully delish.:blushing:

awestfall, running a mile wow girl you are a machine.

heather, I am so jealous that your number starts with a one. Good for you!!!! Keep it up!!!!!

Well ladies, that is all I have. I teach a 1rst and 2nd grade class at my church tonight so I better go prepare something for them. They are so cute and fun. Hope everyone has a great st. Patty's day and I will talk to you all later.

lstpaul, try taking ibuprofen vs tylenol just because Ibuprofen has an anti inflammitory in it. I hate to see someone out in the back too painful. you are wise to keep it rested and stretched. Hope it all gets better quick.

momma2four: I enjoyed seeing all the green when I dropped my son at daycare ... he had to wear all green - green shirt, green camo shorts (high of 60 today .. so I said ok to the shorts), green camo underwear, a large green gaudy ring that my grandmother made, and he took a green marker and drew all over his white socks (with my permission) ... unfortunately also drawing on the bottoms so he got green marker all over the floor! He was pretty into it. My 16-yr old daughter on the other hand only wore a green bracelet and declared that to be enough since we aren't irish.
    Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Thanks gals!! I saw 231 this morning and I took it and ran LOL.But I only ran for 30 minutes today.I am going to alternate it now between 1 hour one day and then 30 minutes the next day with strength training for 30 minutes as well.So Day 1- 1 hour run Day 2-30 minute run and 30 minutes of strength training. The 1200 calorie diet works for me and not eating my exercise calories works too.I do know now how to maintain my weight and that means I need to eat a bit more but still exercise daily.I think I have finally figured out what really works for my body.

    Checking in for yesterday...

    Calories: Slightly over
    Water: Over :drinker:
    Exercise: none =(
    Proud: Hey, atleast I'm trying...

Today is gym day so we'll see how that goes. I want to push myself today.

Istpaul, I hope you get to feeling better. :frown: a sore back is no good. Stretching and ibuprofin should help. I use advil liquigels, they really work fast, and target's housebrand of liquigels are cheap.

Cris, man I wish I was at 220. My scale seems to hate the idea of showing me a 230-anything number... :grumble: I want it so bad. I'm going to have to step up the intensity. Also still thinking about doing couch 2 5K this summer since you had such success..and jlb too. I've always hated running so we'll see how it goes.

I think one of the tricks with eating your exercise calories that you have to use them for good quality calories. You can't think "Well, I ran 3 miles today so I'm going to eat 2 doughnuts" (there goes the doughnut mind again...). Because the thing is, doughnuts (or beer or cake or cookies or whatever) don't really have any nutritional value -- they're mostly empty calories but your body NEEDS nutritients. So, if you eat all your exercise calories and eat a good bit of junk food to get there, well, that's nearly exactly the same as starving yourself because your body still isn't getting what it needs. It doesn't just need calories -- it needs protein and good fats and good carbs and vitamins and minerals, etc.

Anyway, that's my *theory.* My other theory is that when people are eating 100% of their exercise calories and not losing, they may be overestimating their exercise calories (even with a HRM... or especially with a HRM) and underestimating their portion sizes (even with measuring cups & scales -- did you take a bite of something & not log it? did you lick a spoon? did you lick your fingers? etc.). I've seen this with myself especially with peanut butter (and cheese). I'll take the time to measure out 16 grams (1 tablespoon) of PB... And then I'll add a little more.. and then I'll lick the spoon, and then I'll get a finger full. And by that time I've easily had 2 tablespoons -- that's an extra 90-100 calories! :ohwell: When I catch myself I grudgingly log it, but I wonder how many times I've done that without being really conscious of it.

Anyway, everyone's different and you have to do what works for you. But if what you think works for you isn't working for you anymore, you've really gotta move on and you have to give what you change enough time to work.
Remember Albert Einstein's definition of insanity? "Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."

All the kiddies in my son's daycare were in green too, he wore green pants shirts and jacket! I was mad at myself for not stopping by the dollar store to buy him one of those shamrock headpieces, lol I know Im a dork, but it would have been so cute!

We played outside yesterday. I bought him some chalk and he didnt really understand theconcept of writting on the ground, he mostly tried to eat it...nice right? But the point is that I was outside with him, I wasnt sitting inside exhausted and lacking energy. And THAT is the reason Im doing this. I want to play with my son, I want to chase after him, dance with him, live long and see him raise his own family...and Im well on my way :drinker:

So I have been stuck on this plateau for what feels like forever. Has anybody ever tried a detox? If so what are you opinions about this? Maybe that's what I need to get going again. I know Jillian Michaels has one that I have thought about trying. I'm not sure if you should really only do it to jump start the weight loss.
