    Have you read this thread?

MODERATION is what everyone is talking about here. Today I hit my macros and had a pop tart and ice cream sandwich. I lifted weights and spent too much time here.

No one is saying live off them. :noway:

Le sigh, point of thread missed again.

Sure, you can absolutely eat any type of food and still lose weight. Fewer calories in and more calories out creates the deficit required to lose weight (and losing weight doesn't only mean losing fat either). But eating poptarts and ice-cream isn't a good idea, and I know you know that.

On a calorie budget, one of the keys to not feeling hungry (and thereby being able to eat less EASILY) is by filling yourself with protein and healthy fats (over carbs) and lots of fibre (found in nutrient dense, low calorie foods). Proteins, healthy fats and fibre take longer to digest and keep you fuller longer, whereas poplars (pretty much just sugar) won't do much to fill you or keep you full for long.

Also consider the term "EMPTY CALORIE"
    - being healthy means keeping your body a well-oiled machine with all of the components of a healthy, natural diet. Poptarts are synthetic, they don't have many vitamins or minerals, no antioxidants, no polyphenols, no healthy fats - nothing that helps the body function properly or efficiently. The high dose of sugar will dump into your blood stream so fast that you'll experience a spike in insulin, which will affect all of your tissues and organs. Fuelling your body with only sugar and insufficient amounts of nutrients can affect your body in so many negative ways: depression, anxiety, low energy levels, difficulty putting on muscle, losing muscle, brain function, organ function, hormonal imbalances, thyroid dysfunction. All of which can be subtle and barely noticeable, but can really hurt you in the long run. How many people have you heard of that have diabetes or prediabetes and don't even know it?

Sure, it won't kill you, and you can still lose weight, but it's not a good idea.

Healthy is far more beautiful than skinny. You can be healthy, and thin will naturally follow, thin does not mean healthy.

    Swing and a miss.

Lol, yeah, I did read this thread. I didn't miss anything, as you obviously did...

The FIRST person to write on this thread, the person who started it, said that he eats pop tarts and ice cream DAILY. Then several people followed.

Good for you hitting your macros. Your body deserves a dump of sugar and crap as a reward? What I was saying, is that macronutrients aren't everything. I was talking about MICRONUTRIENTS. The exact opposite of your point.

I never suggested anyone was living off poptarts either. I was pointing out the downside of poptarts and icecream on a regular (daily) basis. No news there.

"Le sigh..." you entirely missed the point of this thread, and of what I said, and ignorantly called me ignorant. Good job...

And yeah I like a sugar hit. Not as a reward, but as part of a healthy moderate diet. :drinker:

    Because..... ?

You've made no point and there's nothing to consider other than you don't agree, which you're entitled to. What can one say to that?

Maybe you could be more constructive and we could discuss ideas? That's the point of forums, no?

The point is, if your calories allow, you can include it daily.

Well, you're entitled to your opinion, but I doubt few people would consider poptarts and ice cream every day a 'moderate' thing. Once in a while, maybe, but every day hardly seems moderate or appropriate as part of a healthy diet.

Ignorance is bliss though, so, enjoy! I don't really care what you eat, or how healthy you are, you're a complete stranger. But I'll defend my point since you decided to call me out, however misguided and rude your comment was.

If I eat 1600 to 1700 calories a day of lean protein, veggies, fruits, whole grains, olive oil, nuts, etc, and choose to have the last 300 or 400 calories be from ice cream or another sweet, exactly what am I missing from my healthy diet? Or, how does that sweet cancel out all the other healthy foods I eat?

Yes, I do have something sweet every day. Not always ice cream (this week, it's a raspberry chocolate chip semifreddo that I made a few days ago and have been enjoying), but something sweet. I find it completely appropriate as a part of my healthy diet, and one of the reasons I am not struggling at all to make this lifestyle change.

I don't always eat Pop Tarts, but when I do, I don't even bother heating them up.

    And S'mores flavour FTW.
