Women and muscle. What is your opinion?

Because you asked though...I'll give out my opinion. I like muscle on women...I also like a thin layer of bodyfat over it to smooth the rough edges the slightest bit. A little more or less of either is more than ok. The muscle itself is rarely the issue though when it comes to people's opinions on muscular women, it's how much bodyfat they carry over it. Google Tianna Ta...or better yet, I'll post some pictures.

    During the off season:

The muscle underneath is exactly the same (trust me, that woman wouldn't let one ounce slip...it's too hard for women to build it back up!!), the only difference is the fat over the top of it.

    Good luck with your goals!

Like this girl...yeah...not very attractive to me. In the first she looks crazy muscular except her obvious fake boobs which just look out of place, and on the bottom she is a bit scrawny (no hips). Beautiful face and hair though. That's just my opinion. We all think different things are attractive.

Here's a better picture. It's just the angle:

    Tianna-Ta_usasexybody.jpg

She's got plenty decent hips lol.

Dear God, her body is gorgeous.

(I don't like it on season, though)

You make a very good point. I like muscle on women, I think what I don't like it muscle and low body fat.

I like muscles on women. Not only do I think it's hot from a physical standpoint, but the discipline and work ethic it takes to build that muscle is also a turn on. But that certainly does not mean I ONLY find girls with muscles attractive. I have seen women of almost every body type that I thought were very attractive. And of course, how a woman carries herself has a lot to do with it muscles or not. If having muscles means that a woman will feel more self-confident and therefor is more willing to dress sexy and show off a bit, then I am more than all for it!

    Meh.

This guy sums it up...although 1 and 2 are pretty equal to my taste. And again...to drive it home, the only real difference in their bodies, is a bit of bodyfat. Lean number 1 out, and she'd look pretty much just like number 2.

"Toned" has no standard definition. One could have good muscle tone and be fat. Or to a someone else a skinny girl is "toned". To others a little muscle with low body fat is "toned". The terminology of "toned" was to disguise weight lifting to appeal to feminine way of training.
Since females SPEND MORE MONEY than men on personal improvement, "tone", "toning", etc. was marketed this way to fool women into thinking they weren't really lifting weights, when they actually were. Score for the fitness industry on this.
What's now being realized as of late is that an average female doesn't have necessary hormones put on muscle like a man, so lifting with more resistance is becoming the norm.
You'll still hear the "high reps/light weight" analogy (which is false) to "tone", but in reality all that person is doing is working on their muscular endurance.

Semantics, yeah probably to many, but I'd rather refer a squat as a squat, rather than call it up/downs.

Dude, you and I both know the second girl put a lot of work into her body...but the differences would be marginal to the average person if they had equal bodyfat. That was my point.

It's about how you feel. Some people don't understand being fit and looking lean. Just like some people are happy being fat and don't care about working out or eating right. You're doing great all that matters is how you see yourself and if your husband likes it.

Toned is different than muscular in my mind. Toned is fine, you don't jiggle when you wiggle, but muscular is icky to me. I have a friend who got into CrossFit and she's got man shoulders. I don't think that's sexy at all, she looked better before she started going all paelo-cross-fit crazy.

Yeah, I don't like the broad shoulder look. Not for me. But I will say, thanks to some pics an MFP friend posted a while back...some of those girls from crossfit are pretty dang hot! And if you saw what they do, you'd freak! I know I did. They are amazing!

Not only is it aesthetically pleasing (to me anyway) , it also shows the grit, determination and character of the person.

I think it not only looks good, but I greatly admire those who achieve it.....

broad shoulders is genetic. I have broad shoulders and no matter how I exercise I'll always have broad shoulders.

Also, it sucks when people hate something about your body that you can't change. Good job I like my broad shoulders... but a lot of women hate theirs and posts like this just reinforce them hating part of their body they can't change.

Myself, I want enough muscle to do the farm work but I don't want to be visibly muscular, don't care for that at all, especially not on me. Enough subcutaneous fat that I don't show bulges or visible abs, that's what I want.

i admire the ladies (and men) with the super defined musculature because you know that takes time, dedication and patience.

for me personally my goal is 20-25% body fat not necessarily because i dont like the idea of how i would look at less body fat, but mainly because i know i don't have the personality to make those >20% body fat decisions ona daily basis (ie hot wings, beer and ice cream taste very good  )

besides that. i come from an athletic background and i'm more comfortable with striving for goals related to what my body can do rather than what it looks like.

I would rather be obese than have a hard body. I want to be slender (not model-thin) and soft. I think that Marilyn Monroe had an ideal figure. I would rather be too fat than too thin. Cellulite isn't ugly to me. What is ugly is sagging/drooping/wrinkling/loose skin. But in my opinion, defined muscles look worse. I don't even like defined muscles on men. I think they look all gnarly and all. On a female, a hard body just looks unfeminine and that isn't how I want to look. No muscle development for me!

I guess it's a good thing that we are all entitled to our own opinion. I have "gnarly" muscles... And my guy has never complained about my lack of femininity!

    To each their own!

goes to show we all have our own likes and dislikes.

As far as your comment regarding being obese, I've been there and will NOT be going back! If I had a choice of having a hard body or being obese, I'd chose a hard body any day!!!!!! I'm not muscular, but I do like muscular men. athletic & toned men are - in my opinion - HOT! as far as this topic is concerned, I admire woman who do fitness shows. They look great and they put a LOT of hard work and effort into it. I have loose skin and hate it. I'm working towards getting rid of my lottsa extra fat but i'm not killing myself doing it.

    like this you mean?

    Marilyn-Monroe-bench-press.jpg

BTW to get the lean, non-defined bikini model look, as opposed to the fitness model defined muscle look, you train exactly the same way, only you keep your body fat percentage a little higher

18-21% body fat = bikini model look - no muscle definition, soft, lean look

15-17% body fat = fitness model - visible abs, visible muscle definition

13-14% body fat = female body builder - striking muscle definition, totally shredded abs

I've seen pics of fitness models in the off season, when they let their body fat percentage go a little higher (it's not healthy for women to sustain sub 17% body fat for long periods - fitness models and female body builders will let their body fat percentage go higher when they're not modelling/competing, then cut for modelling/competing. And they look like bikini models in the off season.... same women, same muscles, a little more body fat... totally different look. I hope someone else on this thread posts an example, because it's really striking. IMO they look beautiful at both body fat percentages, but I hope women who don't want to have the visible muscle definition can see how much having strong, developed muscles at a slightly higher body fat percentage makes them like a bikini model.

All the above women have strong muscles, including marilyn monroe... just to not have visible definition, don't let your body fat percentage go lower than approx 18%. That is the difference. And yes it's personal preference. But you should still aim to develop your muscles for strength training for health reasons, and because if you're going for the bikini model look, strong muscles will give your body a better overall shape.

The scale says I have 24.2% body fat, 23.3% muscle mass, 21.2 body mass index. What does it mean? All I know is I estimate I am 5 to 9 pounds overweight; I started my diet today!
