Your most humiliating "fat" experience.

Last year on a plane going on holiday, I just managed to fasten the seat belt and was determined not to ask for an extender! So I sat the whole flight there and back with my belt fastened so I didn't have to undo and then refatsen the belt! OH THE SHAME! And my little brother still goes on about it today! I'm going away in September this year so it should fit with ease this year haha0

My worst experience, and it has happened multiple times, is being asked when my baby was due..
I was 105kgs (lost 3kgs already YAY!), but I have been asked by clients at my job on more than one occasion.
And my small nieces would point to my tummy and ask if there was a baby in there.
Even though they are just kids..it still always really hurts!
Well soon they wont be able to ask me those questions!!! Some people can really be horrible though can't they!0 -
All of these stories about women being mistaken for pregnant women are just horrible. People have no social etiquette, I swear. I don't ever assume someone is pregnant because its just really rude. Some people could be suffering from fibroids or other aliments that are causing their stomach to protrude. And some people, like me tend to hold most of their weight in their abdomen area. Unless a woman tells me out of her own mouth that she is pregnant, my rule is to not mention it or bring attention to it. To me, this isn't a hard rule to follow. Sorry to hear so many women being confronted with this. It really annoys me.0

The most recent few we're, of course, some of the worst. Camping with my boyfriend, we drove to a spot to go take a hike. The guy from Parks and Rec somes over and asks us if we we're camping there, and if so we had to leave our car at the site, a looooong way away, but then he stopped himself to say, "oh sorry, if your pregnant you're welcome to park here, I didn't realize." OUCH. I just said, well, Im not pregnant but thanks for making me feel bad about the choice of dress I"m wearing. lol. Then we drove back and I burst into tears. That was bad. A few months later, I was dressed in this cool retro dress and we going to see a show, and a car full of guys yelled out the window "fat *kitten*" at me, while I was walking with my boyfriend. I was almost more humiliated for him then me, but it was horrifying.
I don't think these have ever motivated me in a healthy way to lose weight, maybe motivated me to have anorexic tenancies, or to binge. It made me horribly sad and angry.
I know I was big, but I wasn't even 200lbs at that point0 -
When I was teaching in Korea, I found out my co-workers had nicknamed me "the fat one". My boss there also told me he worried about my health, and that I couldn't do my job properly because of my weight, despite the fact that everyone else (even those who were calling me names behind my back) told me I was one of the best teachers there. While there I also went to the doctor because my hip was bothering me. He told me I needed to lose weight. I told him that this hip has bothered me for years, even when I was much smaller. He insisted it was due to my weight. The co-worker that went with me to translate decided it would be funny to tell everyone at the school that I was told that I needed to lose weight, and that it was hilarious.
Needless to say, I broke my year contract after only four months...
My boyfriend's mom is Korean, and when I met her, she told me I needed to lose weight. Also, I had just started a new birth control regimen which caused my skin to break out in a few places. She gave us an entire case of herbal soap from Korea so my skin "would be pretty". She also told my boyfriend that he needs to "Marry a nice Korean girl" Every time she calls us, she asks if we have lost, then how we are doing. I couldn't imagine dealing with that at work on a constant basis. That is so horrible. I wanted to take a trip to visit Korea, but I think I have changed my mind.0 -
Oaky here it goes. It was with My Then 6yr old son who's now 13. I had gotten out of the shower, put on my robe and went into the hallway by our living room to iron. Whelp he and I were talking about something (can't remember) and he goes to give me a hug. Now he was a little boy at the time so he was waist level to me so when he went to hug me he grabbed a hand full of my fat roll on my waist and I said "No, don't grab me there" and B/c he was shocked. He asked me, "Momma what is that, Is that a 3rd Arm"? I WAS SO EMBARRASSED! I said, "Boy no" he responded with, "Let me see" lol he didn't know any better, he just knew that he felt something weird! Needless to say, I lost that roll, gained it back, lost it again..well you get my drift!0

All I can think is, you married this man why?
My thoughts exactly!0 -
One time my friend was visiting me in Denver, and I took her to Red Rocks Ampitheater for a hike. Two guys were approaching us from the other direction and one of them appeared to be checking us out. His friend said, "don't look, it's just some fat girls".
Another time I was at a work dinner and one of the very rude vendors I was working with asked me if I was a rugby or football player, because it would suit my body type. D1ck!0 -
I struggled with this one. I do not think anyone ever made a mean comment I heard when I had gained weight. My bf at the time never said a thing...I have actually had MANY more mean comments about being thin.0

When you look back on these things do they motivate you? Do you feel a sense of hopelessness that drives you to failure over and over?
I was at Cedar Point (an amusement park) on a band trip in high school and wanted to ride the Dragster. I didn't have issues with any other rollercoasters in the park, but for this coaster, you didn't just have to get a lap belt to fasten, you had to fasten it and then have 6 inches of the strap left over for safety reasons according to the ride operator. Mind you, this wasn't posted anywhere and I wasn't sure of what kind of seats they were in the first place. I waited in line for an hour and a half, got in the seat, struggled to get the lap belt fastened, then the ride operator came to check everyone and told me that I couldn't ride it because of not having leftover strap. I was so mortified. I let everyone think I chickened out on riding it because it seemed less embarrassing than admitting the truth.
Being that I weigh more now than I did then, I have to say it does make me feel hopeless sometimes. And when I think about that, I feel so embarrassed and saddened.
Mine was also at Cedar Point! I believe it was the Millennium 5 or 6 years ago. You have to be able to snap your seatbelt yourself. I couldn't reach around myself or see what I was doing (past my stomach) to snap it properly. The attendant stated if I couldn't do my own seatbelt I would have to get off the ride. I did get it fastened but it was very embarrassing that it took me so much effort.0 -
My mother stood me in front of my sister and pointed and prodded at every roll of fat or jiggly bit on my body. They both mocked me and laughed. This was all to discourage my sister from wanting a 'boob job' because apparently 'having big boobs would make you fat' like me.

This sounds like a cultural thing. I have a good friend who is Korean, and she is very svelte and athletic, however her family will loudly declare that she has "gained lots of weight" if she puts on a pound or two.0 -

same ... except my bf said when i was 6 months pregnant getting out of the shower 'omg what have i done! he apologised tho, but i have had a few humiliating comments while pregnant and a couple recently. a police officer asking me if id like an escort while i was walking down the road , like i have black and yellow wide load stripes strapped to my *kitten* while i was on a fundraiser night but i was dressed in moulin rouge, i could have just taken it wrong. i laughed it off my *kitten* is the only place i dont have fat :P0 -
I accidentally cut some guy off in traffic last year, and he called me a 'fat *****'. I actually laughed and clapped and then said, "Yeah, I'd be more hurt if that came from a guy who actually had all of his teeth! Way to go, stud!" and that shut him up pretty quick. Hahaha I know, totally childish, but boy did it feel awesome!
Props for the quick and witty comeback.0 -

The ones who nicknamed me were actually South African and Filipino, but the boss and co-worker who translated were Korean. It just came from all sides. Strangely, of everyone I've talked to who works or has worked in Korea, I'm the only one who had a miserable experience (other than two other people who worked at my school who the S. African and Filipino also attacked).
It is definitely a cultural thing, especially amongst t he older generations. A lot of the kids are just as fat as American kids, if I'm to be blunt, so they're going to have some issues when they get older...0 -

This would be so humiliating, especially in front of a boyfriend whom you want to impress. I hope you continued to rock your retro dress, fxck those guys.0 -

I don't know why an old man feels like he has the right to comment about a woman's ...or anyone's body.0 -
In June 2009 I went to visit my sister in Ohio and myself, her husband and her husband's brother all went to Cedar Point to ride rollercoasters (best amusement park EVER!!) We were all really excited to go on the Topspeed Dragster, which was the fastest and second highest roller coaster in the WORLD. It was FINALLY time to get on the rollercoaster, which we had been waiting for about 2 hours. I got in the seat beside my sister and tried to put on the "technologically advanced" seatbelt and it would not latch. It was policy that the people running the ride could not help you put the seatbelt on and rather you needed to be able to just latch it without any assistance. I could not :blushing: The young person runnng the ride told me that I could not ride the rollercoaster because I could not fit into the seat and seatbelt properly. I was completely mortified It was at that moment I decided something needed to be done and I've had a back and forth ride with my weight loss but in the first 8 months I lost 80 pounds!! Since then I have struggled with losing the last bit over the last 3 years, but now I am 15 lbs and a wedding away from my goal weight and could not be any happier. The silver lining was that as humiliating as that situation was for me I NEEDED it to see how bad things had really gotten. I am happy that it happened now!!
This was mine too. I was with my husband and we were seated and I was squishing everything that could be squished and finally got the belt latched. It took so long though that I know people must have been staring. I was too embarrassed to actually look around to confirm but I have no doubt that people were annoyed with having to wait and just were either disgusted or felt bad for me. Either way, I have not even attempted to get on a ride since then for fear of this happening again. I was also embarrassed for my husband having to be seen with me as this was going on. We did not talk about this when it happened and I have never told another soul about this. It still is embarrassing to think about even though I know that I will fit fine the next time.0 -
You know it's easy to blame your partners comment, but really at the end of the day you need to know the truth. He was just being honest, like my wife had a bad breath problem but I would never say anything cause I didn't want to hurt her feelings. It ended up she had a much more serious problem which is now fixed but she almost died. My wife was honest with me and said "your way to fat and your going to died and leave your wife and 4 kids without a father!! do something now. I was 189 kg in Jan 2013 I am now about 145 kgs I,m 6 ft 6 so I,m a big guy, do it for your kids or your partner if you have no kids. The point is it hurt but it's saving my life and it hurts every time she pulls me up and says don't eat that!! LOL.
If he didn't care he would have just said nothing, but he want's you to look and feel great.0 -
When I realize I would crush my wife if I did it missionary style, also getting on a plane and needing an extension strap.0

My moment occurred at six flags theme park a few years ago. My daughter wanted to go on one of the rides (can't remember which one), but we waited in line for about 20 minutes and when we finally got to the cart to sit, I could not buckle the seatbelt because on my weight (around 305 lbs at the time) and both me and my crying daughter had to get off the ride. At that moment I decided to lose weight, which I did, down to 242 lbs. However, as quick as I lost it, I gained it back even quicker. I started over and so far so good. I just need to keep it off.0

I've had quite a few, but, my most embarrassing "fat" experience would have to be about a year ago. Me and a few of my friends went out bowling and one of the girls I was with saw some guy friends of hers at the bowling alley we were at. We all hung out for a few hours and when it was time to leave the guys asked if we could give them a ride home. We ended up having to squeeze 8 people into a car that seated 5. Me and 2 other girls had to sit on the guy's laps and when we dropped them off the guy whose lap I was sitting on was rubbing his legs and laughing with his friends about how he couldn't feel them. I ended up crying all night. Ah, that was a totally embarrassing moment.
I would have to say that I consider it to be more motivation for me than something that would bring me down. Only because there's been some time between when that happened and now. I never want to experience something like that again so it helps me to keep going when I want to give up.0 -
Your hubbie shouldn't humiliate you like that.
But on-topic, in spite of the fact that I've been overweight and even obese most of my life, I have never had a humiliating fat experience. I think I've been called fat a couple of times, but not in a way that was particularly hurful.0 -
When I was at work a couple of years ago (was actually slimmer than now!) and I was serving on the till. A woman decided to make me feel GREAT about myself by saying 'when are you due'. Needless to say I wanted the ground to swallow me up. I did reply 'erm, I'm not?' and she did get a bit flustered.0
-
I was in the backseat of my friend's 2 door car. We drove to my mom's house. I struggled a little to get out the cramped backseat. When we went inside, my little sister (11 years old at the time) ran over to me and my friend and yelled, "Haha! Guess what happened?! When you were getting out of the car, I told mom you were here, and she said 'no, that girl is way fatter than Rebecca.' And then it turned out to be you!"
Aaaaah... out of the mouths of babes...0 -
A few years ago I was in a dads and daughters dance recital and the outfit for the dads was a one size fits all santa outfit. Now last I checked santa was depicted as a big man, why then was mine split on every seam that the pants and the top had. My daughter just hugged me, but I was humiliated, expecially at the sight of the other dads who had to have thier out fit taken up because they were too baggy.0

My sister-in-law is teaching in Korea, and she is average weight. Yet they also call her fat. And we have an amazing Korean sushi restaurant in my town. The owner is Korean, and tells her customers they're fat. What a strange cultural difference, huh?0 -
When I was 16, I was performing in shows with my dance school and always dreaded costume fittings.
The worst was when we were looking at ordering in the leotards we required for one of the dances and I overheard my dance teacher say "We'd better order the largest size for Heather, we can always alter it to make it bigger if she needs it". Needless to say, I didn't buy any photos of us in our costumes and do not have a copy of the show DVD that year.
Another pretty bad one was when I worked in Spain in a hotel. The hotel did have a lot of (elderly) guests who came to stay twice a year, every year without fail. One particular guest was very friendly towards me and my Entertainment Manager and on her return for the second holiday with us that year, she had bought us both a present from the UK. We thought this was very thoughtful and really kind of her to think of us. I did then realise she'd bought us a blouse each, I told her I'd try it on at home and let her know how it looks. Later that day she asked if I'd tried it. I replied "It's lovely but I can't get my boobs in it!" I'm used to this being quite busty most of my life. Her response to this was "Oh I had noticed you'd put a lot of weight on" !!!! I just wanted the ground to swallow me up, the problem was, I knew she was right!!
Working in that hotel was great but when people complain, they can be so mean and unnecessarily personal. One fella left a review on a very well known holiday review website and described me and my manager as the "two large ladies of the entertainments team". Not only was it hurtful, but ANYONE can read his nasty comments!!
These things have helped me prove people wrong and I'm now 2 stone lighter than moving back home from Spain
That'll show em!!!0 -
Two things spring to mind.
1. I was at a festival and someone rudely bumped into me, so I did the whole sarcastic 'excuse me' thing loudly, and this little pr*ck turned around to me, laughed, and called me a fat slag. For someone to see that as my defining characteristic really hit me hard and I swore if I ever got into a slanging match with a stranger again they definitely wouldn't be able to call me fat!
2. My now partner and I got together through an affair and her ex was built like an athlete and was very, very sporty. When her ex found out that me and her partner (my now partner) were sleeping together, apparently the biggest thing she couldn't understand was why her girlfriend would look twice at me. She was so disgusted that someone could sleep with someone like me (fat). I decided that after I got her girl, I would make sure she couldn't say anything like that about me again!!0
