Do you think there's a masculinity crisis in America?

A lot of posts on this thread are macho bull****.
Real men should not be 'dominated' (neither should women)
Real men should not hand over the reigns of power or responsibility (neither should women)
Real men should not stay in unhappy situations out of fear of lonliness (neither should women)
BUT real men ARE occassionally sad, stressed, depressed, unable to cope. Real men DO occassionally need help.
The guys who constantly go around saying 'man up' need to get a grip. They are not 'real' men either. It's all macho bull**** said because they think it impresses someone... and it does... a few fall for it. But be careful.... 'real men' can be liars too.0 -
Um.....I don't see a lack in masculinity anywhere.....so no.0
-
HELL YES! Starts with all of the men being built like women now. Seems like they are all built so fragile now. A guys shoulders should never be wider than his girls!
Give me some one that can protect me with out screaming and running away cause he is a sissy!0 -
This thread, itself, is an illustration of the problem. Seriously girls, bullying men does not make you a real woman. I have a hard time believing any of you are as happy with yourselves as you claim, seeing how you have to attack men to make you feel better about yourselves. You girls crack me up! Lol!
I just skimmed thru the whole thread and I did not see any men being bullied by woman. The only person who's post was contradicted several times was yours and it was due to your definition of appropriate behavior for women.
Wasn't her definition of appropriate behavior for women pretty much in line with what many women do to catch a man? Women do tend to dress up, wear make-up, etc. and then let themselves go once they get the man they want. Lots of bait and switch advertising going on out there.0 -
Unfortunately there is a real man crisis in America. This comes from women who complain about the lack of attention and responsibility from men.
However, I believe there are still lots of real men out there.0 -
Women's lib created the masculinity crisis. Without women submitting to the role of men in the relationship, men find it hard to function the way they are designed to function. I would point out though that it's not the color of a man's shirt or the size of his dog that determines whether or not he is a man.0

Honestly: Do you think there's a masculinity crisis in America? Are more men allowing women to dominate relationships?
Yes to the first question. I do see a lot of men being "scared of" their wives/girlfriends. It seems ridiculous to me that some women control what their partners wear, what they eat and how much personal time they're allowed. It's like some men let women try and mold them into the guy that she wants, but that has to come with some resentment I'd think.
Don't even get me started on the guys who wear girl pants and have more beauty products than a female. I don't know who made that a thing, but hopefully it will just go away (forever) soon.0 -
Well personally, there's this whole metro-sexual thing going around now with men in my area where they're more feminine than the women. They dress in tight bright colors, get their nails and brows done, and just...idk. Aren't very manly! What happened to the men that enjoyed getting sweaty, wearing the same shirt days in a row because, hey, it smells ok, picking up their women just because they can? -sigh- That's just my opinion though.0

Going through this thread there is post after post saying, "A real man does..." " A real man should..." "A real man shouldn't" from both genders.
She one post stating "A woman should....." and she's wearing a scarlet letter.0 -
I notice that the original poster, calvert6183, has deactivated his (or her) account and deleted all but the original question. I'd say just a sock-puppet stirring the pot, if the account weren't opened in October 2011.
Bizarre. I guess he wasn't man enough to stick around and defend his opinions!
It does get old being on here at times with how people attack each other. People on here are only tolerate if their opinions are the same as theirs and plus he met his weight goals a long time ago. I am not sure why i am on here now either. Some peeps get on my nerves. People are allowed free speech even if its not what you agree with. I do agree with this topic. Its hard to find a old fashion man these days and there are many women on this thread who agree with the OP.. Im sorry but it is weird that men today shave all of their body hair and have better skin that women. There is nothing wrong with me not being attracted to men who wear women's clothes and act like women. There is a double standard on this thread, women on here are mad and bashing others who say they too do not like girly men but guess what? I bet you do not like fat, homeless, poor, or short men so you do not have a right to say anything. There are some people who do not get why this is so trendy and there is nothing wrong with that. I think there is many women on here that are insecure and unhappy.0 -

Actually the "real man" post went largely unchallenged and had for more supporters than detractors. Which is fine if people truly disagree.
The "real woman" post had almost exclusively detractors. Not because she said something horrid or offensive, but because she had the audacity to put parameters out there to begin with.0 -
After reading a guys post from yesterday "needing advice not related to fitness" I I would say yes. This was a 30 yr old man asking for advice on how to get himself to love again and how he doesn't know if he'll ever find it again.
I wanted to pull his man card............yes there is a masculinity crisis! Grow a pair and start acting like men again. Sweep a woman off her feet...........treat her like a queen............and reap the rewards!!! There's a few details to work in the middle too but c'mon guy's!!!!
He was looking for a whole bunch of women here to friend request him. You know, the sympathy vote.
Lol! I was thinking the same thing:D0 -
I don't think there is a crisis in terms of women dominating relationships, but there is definitely a crisis in metrosexual men.
What on EARTH happened to manly men? I need to see more burly bearded, manly men.0 -
I think women have always been running the show pretty much, its really nothing new, we are just subtle creatures!0
-
I don't like when a man is prettier than I am0

Me neither.0

Dated... past tense. So you saw his feed then? Complaining about hipsters and this person and that person and ALWAYS posting drunk, right? Great catch.
What's wrong with complaining about hipsters? They mock everything else so they're fair game for mockery.

What qualifies him as a hipster? Or did you and that tumblr blog jump to that assumption all by yourselves?0 -
No.
There is a collective male identity (Man card) crisis because society's definition of masculinity is in a transitional period.
People need to understand that the things that traditionally marked a man as being a man are the trappings of an earlier generation. Things change.
If you are an adult with a penis, you are a man. It doesn't matter if your favorite color is pink and your hair is long and you own the tiniest of tiny dogs and enjoy regular mani-pedis. You might not be the sort of man everyone wants, but that's on them, not you.
It would be good thing if those who prefer traditional "manly" men would remember that past decades had their own issues. Looking at them through rose-colored glassed is a bad idea.
Things have changed for a reason.0 -

Well my first question you never answered: What's wrong with mocking hipsters, as they mock everyone else (ironic T-shirts, co-opted fashion, etc.)
When you answer my question I'll answer yours. That's how I operate0 -

Your comment seems to be saying, "Look at these hypocrites; they're fine saying it about men but get all up in arms when you say it about women." That hasn't happened here. Yes, more people have said that there is a "real man" standard, but they're not the same people who found the "real woman" post to be problematic. If someone thinks that it's okay to define masculinity but not femininity, that would be contradictory and hypocritical. But when people disagree with forcing gender roles on either sex, that's completely consistent.0 -
I like me some alpha in my males...I haven't noticed a shortage, but then again, I'm in the military and don't get out that much.0

I don't think that masculinity is measured by who dominates who. Masculinity is having rough hands to show you work hard. Being ballsy enough to stand up for what is yours and what you believe in. Being quick to smile and slow to cry. And being primal and raw with how you feel and passionate and unrestrained with a woman.
And I'm fully convinced that women like a guy with some chest hair.0 -
Neither person should "dominate" the relationship. It's not masculine for a man to dominate his partner.
I call bullsh!t on this. Why do you think "Fifty Shades of Grey" was so popular??? No woman wants to be dragged by her hair back to the cave or anything, but a *little* hair-pulling would still be nice. Believe me, I'm not condoning the controlling nature of the main character, but the point is that it's kinda hot in certain situations. And so is taking out the trash, fixing stuff and killing spiders. Sure, I can do all that myself, but it's still hot when a man does it.
A lot of guys are too soft for my tastes, but really I kinda blame women for wanting to make guys be more like them.0 -

Agreed. Some aggression in bed is a good thing. Spanking, biting, hair-pulling are all pluses.0 -

It's not a matter of engaging in a power struggle. Respect has to be earned, and it cannot be demanded. This is essential for both the man and woman. We have to relearn kindness in this world. As a woman, I have more respect for a strong man who acts with kindness and consideration for others than one who flexes his muscles because he feels he has to be number one. Machismo is overrated much. Women today also have this counterproductive overbearing know-it-all attitude which will mean loneliness in the future. I have been been married for twenty years and have found that you have to overlook the little things, exercise patience, and above all, don't lose your sense of humour. Or for heaven's sake, cultivate one!0
