I would tell him if he is too stupid to cover his tracks on a computer without getting caught he is too stupid to cook meth.

My daughter just turned 3. About a year and a half ago she promised me that whe wouldn't date until she was 25, so I don't have to worry about it for 22 more years.:bigsmile:
I want to say that it may not be a big deal at this point. I know about a lot of things that I personally find bad or offensive. Sometimes something strange fires my curiosity and I have to find out. BUT, I grew up in an area that had a real bad meth issue and I was a floor manager for a while in a factory on the third shift and had a couple of employees that are disfigured from meth explosions. It gains my attention whenever someone is looking into meth, especially when they aren't comfortable enough to do the research on their own computer.
For now I agree with the above in that you need to keep your eyes open and watch him. I can't say that I know what I would do with my daughter. It is way too easy to make a mistake (or simply wrong place/wrong time) as a young person and have it stick with you your entire life, but I don't know how well banning him from her life would work.0 -

Errrrr.... My Husband would probably threaten him with his shotgun but I think that you need to confront him on this. It's on YOUR computer and it's illegal stuff. Some kids are just interested. I know I've watched more than one doco on drugs and whatnot but it was more so I could show my kids the devastating effects. Perhaps that's what he needs, to sit and watch what happens to people when they're on that stuff. If he's looking to make a quick $ and doesn't give a rat's tail about anyone else then i'd be making sure your daughter was no longer dating him.0

need more info...I know how to make Meth. I was taught in college by a police officer....in class. Step by step. It was so we could recongize our surroundings and be able to be aware if this was going on. could be innocent or could be criminal.0

I guess it depends on the situation. I guess the only reason I can possibly justify doing this kind of research is if you're doing it for a school project or something. Either you want to know how to do it, or you're trying to research how easy it is find the information.
The same could be said for looking up child porn or something. In either case, I'd want to verify with the instructor about the particulars of the assignment because it would have be a very carefully crafted assignment for such potentially damaging material.
Even if that best case scenario somehow turned out to be true, I'd have a long chat with him about asking permission to use someone's computer for that kind of research before doing it.0 -

Hahahahaha. Out of the mouths of babes. I do believe mine said (at that age) that boys were icky and had germs. Mine will be 14 in a couple months and she 'dates' at school (ie: has a boyfriend at school). I'm trying to swallow my fears because the next think is a chaperoned date! *passes out*0 -
Hopefully you all have a close enough relationship that you can talk to her about it. If it were my daughter I wouldn't tell her that she couldnt see him, talk to him etc etc etc... I know when I was younger that just fueled my fire. BUT maybe bring it up, maybe she doesn't know this about him even if he is curious.... she should be aware too0

It depends on the kid...if he normally is a kid that you think is law-abiding and has a good head on his shoulders, I wouldn't worry but I wouldn't forget it. If he's shady or something feels off, be suspicious. Its possible he was either just curious or researching something for school. If he's googling where to get the ingredients, be worried.
I would hate for someone to judge me on my search history. But if I google someone on someone else's computer, you better believe I am clearing the history before I leave.0 -

I could very easily see this being the result of watching something on TV like Breaking Bad or some other show and him say, "I wonder how easy that is?" and before you know it he's zipping along through google. I know that I've looked up all kinds of things simply because of something I heard in conversation or read in an article. I'm willing to bet that there are plenty of people that have googled "goatse" or "tubgirl" just to see what they were.
That being said, I would be pissed for one reason...he used my computer to do this little act. I really don't like the idea of this nonesense popping up in my browser history for a multitude of reasons.
However, you know this kid better then anyone here, is he the naturally curious type or is he the kind that gets into things like doing drugs? Is he the kind of guy that looks up things like 'how to build a hand-glider" one moment and "How Tall was Elvis?" the next? (and yes, I have done both of those and Elvis was 6'0")
Its your call, but at the very least I would be having a sit down with the kid about respecting boundaries.0 -

I know the basics of how to make a lot of illicit drugs...doesn't mean I've ever done it.
this. people research dumb **** all the time. you could be frank with them and say...."so this was in my history, what is up?" and hopefully you have an honest and open relationship with them.
this, for sure...if people looked at my search history, they'd think terrible things of me, but I just get curious sometimes

I would have to have a serious discussion with the numb nut about the intents & purposes behind said research...Of course that discussion is dependent on 2 things:
1. I get to him before my ex-husband
And, failing that #2. he isn't comatose after my ex-husband got through with him.0 -
I'd immediately assume that one of these things were true:
- He wants to emulate the massive amounts of money supposedly made with meth on Breaking Bad by selling it to other kids his age
- He wants to try it himself but is too smart to go buy it off a street corner
- Your daughter wants him to make it for her
If my mom had ever found something like that in her computer's history when I was growing up, I would have been grounded for 6 months no questions asked and the boyfriend would have been history.0 -

I called the cops and they sent him to rehab for 6 months because he cried to the judge that it was his marijuana addiction that made him do it...... REALLY! You can't even be addicted to that plant! What a stupid judge. So I received 14000.00 from insurance and have to suck it up.0
