Barbie – Please tell Jake how sorry I am. Expected or not that is not easy news to get.

Exermom – Good luck on those Wii Balance games. I am ‘unbalanced’ myself.

    Profjan & Treesie- Welcome!

I'm having a munching week and need to stop it. I know it is nerves. Our adopted son is being more than his usual handful this week. Still I need to get back on track with not picking when nervous and making time for my 30 minutes of exercise. To motiviate myself I broke down and bought the Wii Fit Plus as an upgrade to my Wii Fit. I hope the new games and workouts will inspire me.

To all my Canadian friends in this post - Today in your honor I watched a curling match. I can't say I understood it at all. But I was home sick and it was on the tube, so I thought I'd give it a go. Good luck to your teams in the Olympics.

    Have a great evening everyone,

    Jeannie

    Hello Ladies.:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

Got to see my Dad in Rehab tonight. He is so happy. The mornings are the toughest. He usually gets disorientated and cries. It was so hard to be an hour away when he is like that. Now I am three minutes away. The rest of the family have really pulled things together for my husband & I. Lots more help now.

My mom went for her first treatment called Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy at the wound clinc. She has to lay in this glass Chamber for 2 hours. "(HBO) is a medical treatment in which the entire body is under increased atmospheric pressure and the patient breaths 100% oxygen. This treatment is administered in a pressurized chamber. It is proven effective for a number of different medical and surgical conditions." My mom has pressure sores on her toes. The Doctor in the wound clinic was not to happy that the podiatrist left them untreated. I was treating them the best I knew. I just got so many different opinions on how to. We went through 2 pairs of sneakers and and 4 different slippers. Finally I got to the wound clinic. I really believe this treatment will help. It's a long course of treatment 2 hours a day, 5 days a week for 6 weeks. Thank God It is in the same hospital my Dad is in.

Hope you could understand what I typed. My eyes blur out quickly and it is hard to read what I typed.:noway: :noway:

I do believe I will have time to get to the gym this week. Yea!!!!

Thanks for all your kind words.

Hope to really be back on track soon.

    Hello All,

Haven't been on in several weeks. My mom is now out of rehab and doing pretty well. Still has some pnemonia and on antibiotics. We reallt thought we would lose her this time she was in ICU 12 days. At this time we are thankful whenever she feels well. And are glad she is back home with my dad. I am watching their dog for them since I already have a dog and it is easier for me than the other siblings.

Barbie I am so sorry for your and Jakes loss and hope his health will be okay.

I hope to get back in the swing of logging in I eat better when I do. I have at least amintained my weight although haven't loss any in several months. My daughter turned 21 today where does the time go. I will be taking her and my daughter in law to New York City to celebrate the 2nd weekend in March.

    Thanks for listening,
    Lynn

    Good evening ladies,
it has been a really good day. did my workout and stayed well within my calories. Had supper with friends and did so good. I am really not having the cravings like I was before. Hope all of you are doing well. I have been watching the curling matches too. Kenenth and I started watching in Florida and we got hooked. Very interesting. Will miss them after the olympics.
have a good rest of your day.

:flowerforyou: Thank you to all of you for your kind words about Jake's mom
he was able to spend a bunch of time on the phone with his younger brother and that helped him a lot.......he got plenty of chance to rest today and now we're in our jammies watching the Olympics. (we're two days behind  )

:flowerforyou: Rose, it's good to see you back on track
I know you have the persistence to get back on the wagon and keep going

:flowerforyou: Suzzeque, you are so right about how long it takes to bounce back after an attack of the carb monster
that's why I stay out of the bakery at the grocery store and why I stopped eating bread (it's as bad as cake ---one bite and I want the whole loaf)

    :flowerforyou: genann
I don't eat low carb but I stay away from potatoes and bread because I found a lot of other foods that I can eat in greater quantity for fewer calories

:flowerforyou: profjan6----welcome to the greatest thread
we all started at the beginning---we're glad to have you on this journey with us

:flowerforyou: treesie---welcome--stay with us and you'll find that there are a lot of good ideas on this thread for working out whatever your physical limitations----just take it one day at a time

:flowerforyou: Vicki, Jake has been calling his mom once or twice a week for more than twenty years and talking to her for an hour or more each call so I know he's really going to miss that
you are so right on to go shopping for healthy foods so you always have good choices on hand----one of the things that attracted me to this thread was that the women were willing to listen to my endless recitations of what I ate and how I exercised----we love everything you share

:flowerforyou: Cindy, you are amazing, taking care of Granny all these years

:flowerforyou: Plantlady, Kathy, I'm glad things are getting better for your dad and better for you and your exercise goals
your mom's treatment sounds like something new and amazing---I hope the results are good

:flowerforyou: Lynn, it's good to hear from you again and glad to hear that your mom is doing better

:flowerforyou: to everyone I missed, thank you for your kind words, thoughts and prayers.....you are all such an important part of my life.
     love and hugs to all:heart::heart:  Barbie

    Hello All,

It is later than I should be on here, considering I have to be up at 6:30a, but just a quick post...

Welcome Treesie and Profan (may not have those exactly right, but you probably know who you are:wink: )--remember we all started at the beginning, and everyone on here started out as a newbie. Just read and post and use the MFP tools and it will get easier. I promise.

Michelle--I think it was you who said something about wondering how "Bob Green" would feel about Oprah's show set made of chocolate. Dumb question: Who is "Bob Green" and why do we wonder what he thinks? I just don't know the name, so I am wondering.

Barbiecat--As I said on the Golden Sneakers thread, so sorry to here about Jake's cardiac excitement, and the loss of his mom. Both of you take care of yourselves.

And good news ( or bad news, depending on your point of view)--the tax stuff will still be there, even if you have to put it on the back burner for a little while. It brings to mind the story of the woman who was asked how she had lived so long. She said she had a simple philosophy. "When I die, I doubt that on my deathbed I will say that I wish I had done more housework*" :noway: *substitute tax prep for housework--same diff:bigsmile:

Suzzeque--As always, it is good to get a refresher course in your successful techniques at taming the carb monster. I think it is a veggie fruit nut regimen for me for a couple of days to recover from the potluck we had today. Even though I prepared for it by doing extra cardio, I still ate things I don't usually have, and that might put me off track if I don't nip it in the bud.

Well, time for the piglets and me to hit the feathers.

    Barb
EDIT: Just read the quote at the bottom of my ticker--should have kept it in mind before I hit that potluck today at work. :embarassed: :ohwell:

    Morning All,

I am amazed every time I buzz through for my motivational read, at the number of new posters. Welcome to all, this is a great thread populated with motivated and helpful women.

My corporate taxes are out of my hands so I will have time for more rewarding pursuits.

I had my post op check up and all is fine. All tissue samples came back clean, ( Thank you God! ) and I am free to go back to exercising everyday.

The last two morning I have heard the songs of birds as I woke up. This is the first sign of the impending spring, in the great white north. We have a large and varied winter population of birds. This week I have seen fox sparrows and finches. It seems they are a little early but it is so nice to hear their cheery little voices. They are emptying the feeders at record pace as everything is snow covered. It takes 40 pounds of seed to fill all my feeders.

Time to get to work. Thank you all for you information and for sharing your thoughts. Alice

    Morning Ladies

I am so stoked to hear more than one mention of Curling on here. I love it (much to the dismay of my family) When I went to Edmonton in December it was to see the Olympic trials and so therefore we were there when these two teams won the right to represent Canada. It was an amazing field of 8 mens and 8 womens teams. I started curling when I was 12 years old - my dear dad was the ice maker at our local club. The game has sure come a long way in the last 40 yrs! Keep watching ladies
    GO CANADA GO:happy:

My body is in pain  My inflammation in the joints and ribcage is acting up something terrible. I started back on the anti inflammatories yesterday but they wreak havoc with my stomach. My fitness instructor recommended Devil's Claw?? as a natural alternative. I will try to get some research done on that. I still go to class but have to take it easy with weights and resistance training. - My coffee cup is a challenge to pick up so weights are killer!

I did pick up some vitamins etc as I promised myself but I wanted to know if any of you know if there is a certain time or circumstances (before/after eating or together or apart) I want to start with Calcium, Vitamin D and a B Complex Any help would be appreciated.

Plantlady I love the pic of your parents.

Barbiecat - Sorry for the loss of Jake's mom.

Hope everyone has a great day

    :flowerforyou: Good Morning All

The last few days at work have been very stressful, but got the work completed and now on to the next stressful mess of papers on my desk.

Kathy (plant lady) So glad for you to have your Dad just three minutes away in rehab. Do wish that was my case with Mom, she is 1,000 miles away in rehab:sad:

Lynn - glad to read about your Mom out of rehab, I'm not sure when my Mom will be out.

Alice- :flowerforyou: Great news about your post op report being clean.

Last night was our last Waltz dance class since Gerald can't take his pain meds for his hip he didn't enjoy:grumble: it as much as he usually does. Next Tuesday he gets a steroid shot in the hip:sick: sure do hope that it helps. He had the hip replaced last August and because of how much extra stuff the doctor had to do it's taking longer to heal than the doctor expected:sad: But on the brigh side he doesn't limp and can walk without a cane or walker:smile: and if you didn't know that he'd had that surgery you'd never know he was in pain...so keeping my fingers crossed that the shot works next week. Cause the next dance class we want to take in April is Jitterbug Swing:wink:

Diet and exercise seems to be going okay...just wishing things would go faster...but then again all those years of eating poorly just won't go away quickly:grumble:

    Have a great day.
    Laura:smile:

Wow, Kathy – you really do have a lot on your plate. Know that we are thinking of you. Hang in there.

You, too, Lynn. My heart goes out to all of you with ailing parents. So hard.

Heather, sorry to read about your pain. Do you have osteo or rheumatoid arthritis?

I have to admit I am having such a problem with my left hip and knee. It interferes w/my sleep, but I can still do the exercise classes. I should probably make a dr. appointment.

My husband needs the computer so got to run. Stay well everyone.

    Hi ladies,
I am doing well again today. I ate a good breakfast and lunch. Will go to gym after dropping girls off at dancing. I bought some of those frozen talapia filets from Sam's and tried one for lunch. Just seasnoned it, put a few cherry tomotoes on it and broiled in microwave. Very very good. My new staple. Only 110 calories for a filet. You could eat 2 if you had to but I only ate one. Heather I am so sorry about your pain. I hope it gets better. I am addicted to the curling. I just love it. I am impressed that you actually can do it. I would love to try. Have a good day ladies. Keep up the good work.

Kathy (plantlady) and Lynn - I hope your parents get better and my thoughts go out to you and your families while you deal with these health issues. Jeannie
  • Hi everyone - this'll be my third attempt to log in tonight. If at first you don't succeed ......Let's hope this doesn't whizz off to nowhere!!
    as have the other two!!

:flowerforyou: projan6 and treesie ..... Welcome from me too! Great to have you on this great thread and to have you joining us all on this journey! projan6 I hope you'll still enjoy your dining out ..... logging it down before hand can help guide you to healthy choices I'm sure. I do try to complete my diary early and stick to it ... nearly always is better than none!!

 Barbie .... please add my condolences to all those received so far for your loss. I do hope that you both can hang on in there and come through all your troubles.

:flowerforyou: Vicky ... It must hard to watch a loved one giving up on life. i do hope that there will be a spark that ignites the will to carry on.
That Sugar monster has a lot to answer for in my house ...you didn't send him here did you? Your ticker shows 50lb lost .. it can't often be with you!!!

:drinker: AliceM ... Such a great ticker too!! Lots of lbs gone and many miles travelled!! You put me to shame. surely you'll spur me on ...
It's great to see and hear the birds in the garden. We're apparently feeding half the village birds here for the amount of feed we get through!!

 Cindy .... you are a great role model for me. 15 years caring for granny is to be commended. I know it's hard sometimes but it does cheer me and encourage me to carry on regardless when I know there are others that do the same and more than me!

 Laura ... Stress at work is a no! no! I do know what you mean re heartburn! The makers of Gaviscon must have noticed a dip in sales when I finally gave up work a few years ago!! Sorry to hear about Geralds hip pain. I do hope it gets better before your "Must Do" jitterbugging!! My Dance DVD's STILL haven't come ( Jive amongst them) so perhaps we could tag along to your sessions?!!

:drinker: suezzque ..... Thanks for the Carb monster tips. I'll give it a go and remember to ask myself ... do i need to eat this? more often. The cider vinegar sounds worth a try. It sounds a bit like a slimming potion I bought in a health centre in Sri Lanka. That tasted foul! and was also taken before a meal.

:flowerforyou: Kathy .... I bet you're glad to have your Dad closer and hopefully on the road to recovery .. pleased for you. Also,I hope your mum's "space age" sounding treatment works wonders!!

 Jeannie ... I hope you enjoy your new Wii games. Weeee haven't got one but had a great time a while back when we tried Bowling on a friends. I'm the same with the curling... cheer them on but don't quite know what's what! No doubt the penny may drop one day!

 Lynn .... I'm glad your mum is out of hospital and progressing on her road to recovery. I hope you enjoy your daughter's 21st. a milestone in her life to be cherished.

 Heather and Zaz a ..... i do feel for you with joint pains. Why do we have to join the Ibuprofen and Diclofenic club? My area at the moment is my right shoulder/ arm. A pain.... when driving or picking up things ... ouch!!! Keep taking the tablets ladies ... rubbing in the linament. As my Dad has had both hips and knees replaced I'm wondering whether to hedge my bets and put my name down now!!!

:flowerforyou: Wow... Hope I've not offended anyone by leaving them out... not intentional I assure you. So difficult to keep up with all this socialising!!!

    Bye for now
    Jackie
  • I am Sooooo... pleased that post worked. :noway: I just was NOT going to repeat it all AGAIN!!!!!

  • WELCOME WELCOME TO ALL THE NEWBIES!! :flowerforyou: This is a great site, with great inspiration.
I have been mostly lurking this week – :explode: super busy at work . . . higher ed and budget cuts mean for long days! I am like others that I seem to be totally on track during the week . . water, burning 600+ calories a day, and eating super!! However (you had to know there was a but in there) I seem to fall down on the weekend:frown: . We have had some fun celebrations on the past four weekends (that’s my excuse!) but I still need to do better on the weekends!!!

:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: We are about to hit the magic number of 500 posts which will lock this thread and send us to "Part Two"....I'm glad there are so many of us with so much to say to each other to cheer us along the road to our goals.

:flowerforyou: Jake will be heading to Seattle tomorrow to see the cardiologist who implanted his defibrillator three and a half years ago.....they may put him in the hospital to add another lead from the defibrillator to his heart.......he'll go by himself since he'll be able to drive over and back by himself and so we don't have to board the animals.,,,,he's had several hospital procedures, some he's gone by himself and some I've gone with him.

:flowerforyou: Vicki, your meals sound like mine (grilled fish or chicken breast with salad and veggies) lots of food and nutrition and low calories......you'll be releasing those pounds in no time.

:flowerforyou: Zaza, sorry to hear about your hip and knee
pain certainly messes with your life.

:flowerforyou: Barb, you are so right about the income tax.......it will be here tomorrow and doing it is like eating an elephant (one bite at a time)

I've been to the dog park, done a little work on the income tax and now am ready for the exercise bike.
