  • Moderation is not the only thing that matters. If you only care about weight loss, then fine, but if you care about health, then you shouldn't be eating processed and sugar-filled foods. It is our own choices and our own right, but if you are on a site like this, then everyone should expect friendly constructive criticism. Every once in a while is ok, but not as a daily treat. Look at the quality of your intake, not just quantity. Its not sad that she mentiioned this because its true. Its not like she named names, she was just making a valid point. And diary's are not private if you choose to let people view them.

It's really driving me mental!!! I have something like 89 friends on here. I browse a lot of food journals (friends and random people, too) and am SHOCKED by what I see most of the time. Most of you want to lose weight but I see are not willing to change your ways. Food for thought on this Thursday. Lean on your support network if you need help. That's why we're here! Why log in every day and record CRAP. If you want to change your body, CHANGE YOUR DIET!

What would you constitute as "crap"?

In reality, there isn't a single food item, by itself, that is inherently bad for you.

Now, over the course of a day or week or more, if there are people who are continuously over calories, then I can see your point. Especially if these same people are complaining that they can't lose weight. However, if these people are always at a calorie deficit and able to be consistent with macronutrients, then I don't see where the foods they are choosing to accomplish this should matter.
  • You are right that it is a huge step for some, but it is just one of many steps to take, people are not meant to live on low calorie crap forever.

I ate eight chocolate chip cookies yesterday.

The fact this bothers a random stranger makes me want to eat eight more today.

    Just a quick observation...

The majority of the avatars telling the OP to cram it because she's a judgmental loser and a meanie pants are not fit, lean, jacked, or awesome looking.

Not everyone wants to look like you.

    Just sayin'.

Of course. I didn't say, assume, or allude to some idea that everybody wants to look like me. I did say that I wouldn't value the advice or opinion of (paraphrasing) a fat person on how to not be fat or a weak person on how to be strong. But if someone says, "here's my goal, here's my plan," and OP sees consistent deviation from the plan that derails the goals, where is she wrong to call out, criticize, or coach the person who is sabotaging himself?

She isn't wrong for wanting to help them. But doing it this way to post a thread and go "wah wah its annoying me that my friends do this in their food diary" is ridiculous and childish. If I had a friend that did what she did I would call her a b*tch and defriend her. Why doesn't she just PRIVATELY message the person and provide suggestions and bring it to their attention if she cares so much. You don't have to announce it to the entire forum community.

And to the OP...I really am glad that you aren't on my friends list. I have a few squares of dove dark chocolate every couple days, Ive had a brownie and last Friday I went to the local Fair and had a few pieces of funnel cake and deep fried oreos. **GASP!!** Guess I'm going to hell now!!

Im fat, yes I know it. BUT Ive also lost 22lbs in the last 2 months so suck it!

You must have a sad life to worry about other peoples food diaries. I eat chocolate and crisps every day (they are just lower calorie variations to the ones I used to eat) and it fits my macros, and I still lose weight. This is a lifestyle change, not a diet, and I don't plan to cut out anything that I couldn't give up forever.

    This.

    Dear OP,

If you want to lose more weight, try to take my Cadbury premium dark chocolate away from me.

    Go on.

You really don't *need* BOTH hands.

Exactly. I am so glad I am hosting that Halloween party tonight. Gonna get my alcoholic worms in dirt on using the finest quality chocolate pudding, real oreos, and kosher gummi worms. No crap there. :)

Girrll..you better go on somewhere with that mess!! Worry about ya'damnself..and quit trying to dictate what others are doing. Because at the end of the day..YOUR OPINION doesn't matter. If your friends are losing weight..then OBVIOUSLY what they're doing and how they're doing it..is working for THEM.

You need to chill..and redirect your energy to something more positive..and less...waayyyyy less judgemental. Women can be pricks too, you know...get it ?

Maybe "clean" eaters should only be friends with other "clean" eaters. We will divide everyone up on either side and call the phenomenon the "Great Wall of MFP". (sigh)

Really, if it bothers you then don't look and/or delete them.

    I don't understand the problem here...:noway:
  • Why worry about other people?? You choose what you eat, I'll choose what I eat. It's really very simple. I've made a change in what and how I eat. A change that I can sustain long term. I've lost 62 lbs now, exceeded my goal weight, and am having zero trouble sticking with it. My lifestyle is sustainable. When I want crap, I eat crap. And I don't worry about it! You probably shouldn't either.

Agreed, although a small treat here and there won't harm

Agreed, however many people think that small treat should be at every meal.

I have seen it too (and am guilty of it some days). Like I always say, you can't out exercise a bad diet. :drinker:

I actually think that's quite a disgusting attitude to have. I have a friend who has lost over 100lb while still having occasional treats - but she still has a way to go and in your book would no doubt still be 'fat'. Does that mean I shouldn't listen to her because she hasn't reached her goal yet?

How do you know that the same doesn't apply to the people you have just blatently criticised on here? MFP is a learning curve, and anyone that is on here, making changes and logging their food regularly deserves a round of applause regardless of what they eat, in my opinion. We don't need people like you criticising our opinions just because we are not 'jacked' or 'awesome looking'.

I understand your concern and that your want ppl to do their best in their life to try and become healthy and fit but I think there are alot of factors that maybe you did not concider? Their budget? Not everyone can afford or have easy access to affordable fruits and veggies and lean meats. pasta is cheap. sauce is cheap if they have a family to feed and that's what they can afford I don't think it's necessarily the best choice on your part for making them feel about about it. Maybe a positive way to go about it is to offer small word where they could improve. ie. choose whole wheat pasta insead of the white pasta try and choose extra lean ground beef for the spaghetti sauce. But just try not to judge until you have walked a mile in their shoes and know their story... I think EVERYONE has room for improvement!!

Personally, I still eat "crap" if you compare it to a lot of diets on this site. But hey, guess what...it works for me.

And if you really want to get technical, I don't even keep up with my logging as if my life depended on it, because it is a life style change. And I do not want to spend my entire life logging food and wanting to count the calories and being worried about my daily intake.

I'm working towards being healthy, and I'm still exercising. Just because I'm not turning "clean" like a lot of people, doesn't make my goals any less realistic or possible. It also doesn't mean that my food journal is complete crap. It just means I'm going at it differently from you.

This is so funny. It really is about calories. I tell people that all the time and they say "Well then why do you eat so clean???!!" Well, because it makes me feel better, sleep better, and perform better at my sports.

But too many changes at once can be hard on some people. I've always eaten healthy so it easy for me to simply eat less. Eating at a calorie deficit is hard on people, even a small deficit puts your body in a state of flux with hormones and such. Everyone is different. Some people can handle a deeper calorie deficit than others, this is not right or wrong, it just is. Stress in your life effects your hunger hormones; lack of sleep, fatigue, job stress, family stress, financial stress, etc. Add in emotional eating issues and it gets even more complicated. Most people can only handle so much change/ stress at once, they try to do too much and fail. Sometimes it might be a better strategy to eat at maintenance and make some small changes first, it really depends on how much stress you are taking in at the moment.

I wish I could have a hologram version of you standing on my shoulder, pearls of wisdom with every post. One of those people I get excited when I see them post cause normally it's solid advice that is very well presented on the topic. :)

I'm trying to stay away from fast food, but some days I run out of time and it's my only option. For example, I went to Dairy Queen yesterday cuz my boyfriend wanted chicken strips. I usually go for the chicken strips, but instead got 2 grilled chicken wraps. I'm not saying it's any healthier, but at least it wasn't fried. At least I made the better choice. Also, I agree with you about some people still eating crap even though it's less of it. But some people might not have the same goals. Some just want to lose weight and don't think about the healthier choices they can make for their body. That will come with time. I used to think eating less of something was better, but now I'm worrying about what's healthier for my body. I'm trying to minimize my fast food because of the dehydrated oils in them. I'm so proud of myself on my progress.

There is nothing unhealthy about grilled chicken wraps.

The majority of the avatars supporting the OP's support of others by telling them the truth about their choices and the impact of said choices on their stated goals are leaner, more fit looking, and in general people whose opinions on subjects such as those this site would find useful I would listen to.

    Just an observation...

I am by NO means a clean eater but even I some times look at diaries and am kind of shocked. BUT I don't know the whole story some keep my mouth shut. Everyone is different op you seem to drinkable lot of protein shakes and I've heard some people poopoo those so everyone has an opinion just sometimes better to keep it to yourself. The only time I comment on a diary is if it's REALLY low consistently or if I see a recipe I might want to try.

Op maybe take this approach to commenting on diaries, it might have a better outcome...."hey, I see you really like Reese's peanut butter cups! I have a great recipes for a protein shake with those favors, message me if you want it". So the person knows you see that's all they ate that day but you are also being helpful.
